Graphic pen or coloured pencil effect...

I am shooting some simple talking head footage and want to experiment with the effect (similar to photobooth) that makes the footage look like an animated graphic pen sketch or coloured pencil sketch. What I've seen in the actual package doesn't seem to offer anything like that - any suggestions much appreciated.
thanks

  • Cannot color image after applying "Graphic Pen" effect.

I open a .dng file which was in greyscale. Then converted it to RGB. Applied the effect Graphic Pen. Added a new layer, fill it with red, changed mode to Overylay, and when I tried merging down, or saving as a jpeg, it converts the image right back to B&W. I even tried changing my brush to red and Overlay mode, it just won't let me color the image at all. I've tried hue/saturation, and when I try to save the adjustment, it converts right back to B&W. Any help? Here are some screen shots.
    This is after merging down.

Hue/saturation has the same problem as overlay, but you can colorize the image checking colorize and by moving the saturation and lightness sliders to the right.
Did you try the different blending modes with a color fill layer?
It really depends on the effect you want.
For example you could set the foreground color in the toolbox to Red and the background color to White.
Then when you use the graphic pen filter the black pixels will be red and the white pixels white.
The colors for the sketch filters in the filter gallery are dependent on the colors you have set in the toolbox.
If you planning on using the image for the web, you could reduce the pixel dimensions of the image (Image>Image Size)
and then the overlay mode would work for colorizing the image if that's the effect you like.
The reason that works is that resizing introduces a little bit of blurring (for lack of a better word) around the edges.

  • Is there a Graphic Pen Tablet that...

Is there a Graphic Pen Tablet that you don't move around by hovering the tip of the pen over the surface? I had one that I did not like that you had to hover the tip over the surface. Touching the surface was only for pressure brushes. Is there a tablet where you can just drag the tip of the pen on the surface to move it around? I find this much more precise.

I don't know of any tablet where you can't touch the pen to the surface. What tablet did you use that you were told, or thought, that you had to hover the pen above the surface of the tablet? Perhaps the pressure sensitivity was just set too high or something was wrong with the tablet.
Wacom tablets are generally felt to be of very high quality and are the ones I encounter most frequently.

  • Coloured pencil problem

My photoshop elements 11 keeps giving me problems with coloured pencil.  Two months ago it was giving me a blue paper background.  your technician solved problem but now it is giving me a very much unwanted red paper background. please can you fix it or replace what seems to be a faulty version of elements 11 which seems to have mind of its own?

We can't fix anything because PSE isn't  "ours", since we're just other customers like you.
However, the pencil sketch filter uses the colors chosen in the color squares in the toolbox. Clcik your red square and choose a different color there.

  • Graphic pens

This may sound like starting the old PC vs Mac discussion, but here goes: I have intended for some time to go for a graphic pen. Had done all the investigation around "the-graphics-tablet.com" site as well as wacom's, and had concluded that the intuos 4 was a must although sort of dreading the leqrning curve on programming properties etc. I actually got a wacom bamboo for father's day (wife "mistake"), but before exchanging, have done some more "bamboo vs. intuos" research and am now questioning my earlier decision. I am a committed photographer and elements user, but not a painter/drawer. Do I really gain that much popping for the $350 intuos vs. the much cheaper bamboo?

I have the Bamboo-Fun. Basically, it's the same as it's lower end counterpart the Bamboo. The only diference between both is the lack of eraser on the Bamboo, an obstacle that is easily overcomed by keyboard shortcuts. If you won't be using it much I'd choose size over pressure levels, so I'd go with a size you think you'll feel comfortable with on one of the lower end tablets like the Bamboo or Bamboo-Fun.
If you're planning on using this every day of your life, get the more expensive Intuous. These are all manufactured by Wacom.

  • HELP! When I drag the graphics pen, it selects objects without clicking

Having a number of problems: the graphics pen selects objects without clicking them and "slides", the machine is beachballing for long periods and applications keep quitting unexpectedly. Please help!!!!

    Welcome to the forums Monad!
A handicap we all share here is that we are not clairvoyant!
You give us too little to go on:
    Which G5 do you have?
    What operating system?
    What graphics pen?
    What applications are quitting?
    When did the 'beachballing start'?

  • IPad as graphic pen tablet?

I have illustrator on my mac and own an iPad 3 and graphics pen.
Is there anyway that the iPad can functional as Wacom tablet instead of buying one?
Thank you (and apologies or what is probably a dumb question)
    Genevieve

    1) Wacom Tablets read pressure as you draw. The iPad, thus far, can not do this. There are styluses such as the Jot Stylus which reads pressure. But in my experience it's not the same, or really even close to a Wacom tablet. And heck, if you're going to spend $100 on a Jot Stylus, you'd do better by spending that $100 on a Wacom Bamboo tablet.
    2) The iPad's major issue where drawing is concerened is the need to hover over the tablet surface and only touch the tablet with the stylus. Most humans who draw rest their hand on the surface and draw. You can't do that with an iPad. Spend a day NEVER touching your desk with your wrist or forearm. How long can you work that way? Yes, you can wear a glove to prevent the hand being read by the screen, provided you don't mid that option. And this may not be a big issue if using a more non-traditional set up, such as the iPad on your lap while sitting on the couch and a laptop sitting on the coffee table in front of you.
That being posted, there are apps such as SplashTop, or LogMeIn, for iOS which allow you to log in and control a Mac with an iPad. There are also apps such as MobileMouse which will turn the iPad into, essentially, a big trackpad for the Mac. You can use these apps to control the mouse on the Mac.
So theoretically, yes, you could do what you want. I've tried all these and they do function. The problem arises when there is even a millisecond of delay between the iPad and the Mac. Even a millisecond can feel like a long time where mouse movement is concerned. And, as I've posted, you don't get any pressure, tilt, rotation, readings from the iPad which Wacom tablets do.
You can try it free, just download the iOS apps and the supporting Mac software needed (the iOS apps tell you what to download). But, I suspect you'll find it horribly lacking, especially if you've ever used an actual Wacom tablet, or even one of the other, cheaper, drawing tablets.

  • IPad photo booth -- is "colored pencil" effect available?

I like the "colored pencil" effect that is available on the Mac version of Photo Booth.
That effect does not seem to be available on the iPad2.
Is it possible to get the "colored pencil" effect when using the iPad version of Photo Booth?
Thanks in advance!  I tried searching the forum but didn't find any prior discussions of this...
    -Tom H.

    Thanks Allan.
I was hoping there was a setting I had overlooked, or an app to download, or something.  C'est la vie.
    Thanks for the help.

  • Colored Pencil effect

Just wondering if someone could help me out here. I would like to create a colored pencil effect with gradient filling in a circular shape. The difficult thing is that the line should also go in a kind of swirly way. I enclosed a pic which I think can better discribe what I try to make. Is this possible to make in illustrator? Thanks in advance.

Here's my best go at it....
Created a basic feather shape, used scribble to break it up and look pencil drawn, then used the rotate tool to distribute around a circle. Selected half and used "transform each" to change the rotation to a flatter appearance. Added a compound shape circle of orange behind and roughened up the edge with roughen effect.

  • Using Pantone Colour as Effects in Illustrator CS5

    Hello.
I have create a swoosh for a clients logo and to cut down on production cost I have created a two colour option (pantone).
The design is using the following effects Drop Shadow, Outer Glow & Feathering. To maintain the brand colours I have select the a pantone colour as an  effects fill colour.
But when I do an "Output Preview" in acrobat I can see that the Illustrator effects has turn the pantone in to proccess colours. Can some one adivce how to work around this issues?
    Kind Regards
    Nick

Thanks for your quick reply, I have uploaded screen shot showing the process I used to apply the effect.
Also I have uploaded a screen shot showing "seperates preview"
The screen shot below shows the CMYK plate turned off, where you can clears see the shadow and feathering and glow disappears.
Do you know whats causing this?

  • As soon as I log in graphics go low colour/lower rez

'm running 10.4.6 on a MacBook Pro and something very weird has just happened.
My machine has been working fine for a couple of weeks now and all of a sudden my colour seems to have dropped to 8-bit and all of of the text (including the Finder menubar) has become very undefined, blocky and splodgey.
When I logout everything is OK, the login screen shows text and graphics fine, about five seconds after I login 'click' everything returns to the low-colour blockiness.
I created a second user account to try and take screen shots of this so that I could put a link to them on here and the weirdest thing is that the screenshots I took when everything looked blocky look fine when I view them from the new account (in addition everything else is OK with the new account too).
It is obviously some preference or something loaded during my login, I've tried repair permissions and that didn't help. Anybody got any clues as to what could be causing this? Migrating everything to a new user would be a nightmare as I have loads of work scattered around everywhere and a shed load of application preferences.
I've also posted this to the Finder Forum as it spans both sort of issues.
    Thanks in advance
    James

Open the Universal Access pane of System Preferences and check the settings; some of them may be causing your issue. These settings are specific to the account which they were set in.

  • How Do I make curved lines with the pen tool in after effects CS6

Hello, so I have been following this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vKzB-CFT0MI on how to make 2d intros in after effects and at the 2:20 mark he shows how he uses the pen tool to make curved lines around the elipse. I tried to do the samething myself, and couldent make the curved lines. I looked it up online and there were tutorials on how to make curved lines but they did not work the same way, and I could not make curves like he did.So if any of you know how to do curved lines like in the video, your help will be appreciated.
    Thanks !

This is basic stuff and it's basically the same way Illustrator or Photoshop works with bezier paths. You'll find a lot of helpful information if you just type masking or mask in the Search After Effects Help field at the top right corner of the app.
    Adobe - Search: masking
Directly from the Help Files: After Effects Help | Creating shapes and masks
Mylenium.. sorry you thought it was an awful tutorial. I made it in under a minute just to show this member the very basic task of creating a mask with the pen tool and animating the shape. I'll try and up the quality of my quick replies to simple operations.

  • Will the Intel Iris Pro Graphics 5200 run all Photoshop effects?

I am lost and cant find a final answer to the following.
I am about to buy a MacBook Pro and cant decide between the one with dedicated GPU and the one without. I want to go for the one without - the increased battery performance and lack of overheating are favourable.
BUT... I cant get a deffinate answer to whether the Intel® Iris™ Pro Graphics 5200 on the 4th gen i7 processors (ie the one without the dedicated GPU) will run all these Photoshop effects:
Adaptive Wide Angle Filter (compatible video card required)
Liquify (accelerated with compatible video card with 512 MB of VRAM)
Oil Paint (compatible video card required)
Warp and Puppet Warp (accelerated with compatible video card)
Field Blur, Iris Blur, and Tilt/Shift (accelerated with compatible video card supporting OpenCL)
Lighting Effects Gallery (compatible video card required with 512 MB of VRAM)
New 3D enhancements (3D features in Photoshop require a compatible video card with 512 MB of VRAM):
    Draggable Shadows
    Ground plane reflections
    Roughness
    On-canvas user interface controls
    Ground plane
Light widgets on edge of canvas
    IBL (image-based light) controller
I don't need them to run massively fast, I just need to know if they will work without a dedicated GPU. I appreciate the Intel® Iris™ Pro Graphics 5200 supports open gl/cl but I cant find an idiots proof answer if that means all these features will work.
    HELP!
    Cheers

We’re not aware of any issues using that specific card with Photoshop and all features should be supported.

  • Create document to change colour of certain graphics using own colour palette

I want to create a flash document that allows me to change the colous of an image using a colour palette of my own. I am a complete beginner and have no idea where to start this, hence i would need to know what to do and how to do it.
I basically want the image to be a simple 2d image that i will create using different layers in photoshop and import them into flash, the layer images will all be one colour so the colour of the whole layer changes.
so the colour palette will be on the side of this and when i click on an image and then a colour the image changes to the colour i clicked.
I know how i have explained this is a bit hard to understanbd but any help is greatly appreciated.
    Thank You

the document is not for me to use but for me to give to a large group of peopleand they will themselves select their own colours, i want to be able to intergrate my own colour palette into it which will have hundereds of colours....very similar to a room planner kind of thing, where you select a colour and the object you selected changes to that colour, but i need it for somthing else.

  • Why doesn't the graphical waveform update after adding effects to the rack??

I've noticed that when you add effects to sounds you hear the difference but the waveform does not SHOW you the difference. There's no way of telling how high you're getting with some effects. You don't see any true representation of the audio in the Editor Panel until you Apply the effect. But what's the point of that? That's like making color adjustments to a photo by changing levels but not being able to see what your doing. This sucks. This is absurd. Does Audition do this too?

It works fine on my systems running Mavericks, so this is not something Apple has removed but rather something amiss with your system. I'm not sure what to suggest, but downloading and reinstalling the 10.9.2 Combo Updater might help:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1726
If you have a Magic Mouse you might also look to the various touch/swipe settings; not having one I can't be more specific. Someone else here may have a better suggestion.
    Regards.
