Graphic problem with Final cut pro X

Hello
Since some days I have graphical problems, it seems it is related to final cut pro X (10.0.8), all other programms are running well.
When I import events to my project the graphic is ok:
After modification, example: here stabilization on, I have some colored pixels in the preview:
After this happens once, I found some colored pixel also in other programs or on the background picture.
I'm not sure if I have a problem with final cut or with the graphic card. When I use my iMac without final cut, I found no problems
Can anybody help me? Thank you

Thank you for you answer.
I have 12 GB Memory and Final Cut Pro X was working properly until now.
The problem occure already at the preview windows, as soon as I close Final cut the graphic background looks good again.
I found that I have a similar problem also with iMovie, so I think it is maybe a hardware and not a software problem.
The hardware test does not show any problems, do you know another method to test the graphic card?

Is anyone out here having problems with the academic version of Final Cut Pro?
1) Erratic capturing capability---Was able to capture for a few days, and now audio isn't in sync with video during playback.
2) Sudden shutdowns of program
3) Dropped frames
4) Scratch disk QT files were in sync, and now they're playing sluggishly, indicating dropped frames.
I'm no expert, but I've never had such erratic problems with a software program before. I'd appreciate any help anyone can give me. I've taken my computer in and gotten a second hard drive, had our operating system reinstalled.

• Audio problem with Final Cut Pro x. (New to x)

Hello,
I recently switched over to Final Cut Pro x and am just now starting to get adjusted. I just ran into this problem and I'm having trouble solving on my own. Here you go...
I just imported a bunch of video into my "event" and went through and logged everything. Everything sounds fine until I drag my clips onto the timeline. Once I drag them down the audio gets lower and sounds very muffled. Does anyone know what would be the cause of this?
Thanks!

What are the exact specs of the original media? Open in the QT player and report what it says in the movie inspector.

• Problems with Final Cut Pro HD 4.5

Hi gang
I posted something similar a few weeks ago about this problem, and since then, my problem has only gotten worse. Here's the basics: I'm using FCP HD 4.5 on a MacBook (apparently that's trouble right there.) I did the thing where you change something in the properties to get around the required video card. So the program works, right? Sure.
I shot some video on a Cannon XL-2 (which I thought was Hi-Def, but apparently it's not.) The camera was rented, so I obviously don't have it anymore. I have been trying to import the video on to my laptop, via an external hard drive (like 30GB) using a Sony Handycam (borrowed from my office.)
The first problem was that there was no audio on the tapes shot on the XL. I'm going to go ahead and say that some how....that was my fault. Not sure how, but I'll take the blame. Now, I'm trying to import this silent footage, and I keep running into a problem, and that problem is this: the important stops after a few seconds, and there's a message about how there is some kind of error on the tape. This is super frustrating, and I think when I was working on this the other night, the tape eventually just stopped showing video, even though something is obviously there.
Now, here's a few questions. Is it because I'm using a somewhat small external hard drive that may not have enough space on it to keep processing the video? Is it because I'm using a different camera to try and get this video? Should I try using another Cannon, or should I go as far as to track down another XL-2 to rent? Is it something wrong with Final Cut? Some setting or something?
If someone could help me out, I'd appreciate it.

The XL-2 does not shoot 'High Def". It records DV in either 4:3 or 16:9 anamorphic formats.
Here's my standard "so you are using a Canon camcorder to capture and it isn't working" routine:
Not all Canon cameras have connection issues, but hanging around this site I've come to recognize their ability to connect in FCP is the most problematic of all the camera brands. If you have a Canon camcorder, and can not get it to connect up with FCP, the following is a way to sort through the issues and get it to work. Some are elegant - some are ugly.
Before we go any farther
-you should be using 'Firewire Basic' as the control protocol. If you aren't, go change it and try again.
-Also, verify that you have a solid installation of Quicktime. You may want to reinstall it using the 'delete receipts' method. Do a quick search here on the site - it is mentioned daily if not hourly.
With some confidence that the software installation and camera settings are correct and it still won't capture correctly, you are most likely a victim of the dread 'Canon firewire bus incompatibility problem'. Simply stated: Canon cameras do not play well with other devices on the same firewire bus. And, since all the firewire ports on a Mac connect to one bus - well - you get the picture.
The most direct solution is to purchase another, non-Canon device to use as your capturing machine. The Sony DSR-11 is highly recommended for DV work. A deck will save wear and tear on the camera's lightweight drive mechanism and will allow you to permanently connect a NTSC/PAL monitor for proper viewing. (If you are working with HDV, you will have other issues ...)
Beyond replacing your tape playback device, the path you take depends on the model of computer you own.
1. If you have a G5 tower or a MacPro, capture to a second internal drive with only the camera attached. If you need to move material to firewire drive, disconnect the camera. A second internal drive is quite inexpensive these days if you do not already have one.
2. If you have a G5 tower (PCI) MacPro (PCI), G4 powerbook (PCMCIA) or MacBookPro (Expresscard 34) with an available slot, purchase the appropriate firewire card for the slot. Connect your camera to the card and you should be good to go. The new card creates a unique bus and will avoid collisions with the external drives.
3. If you do not have a slot or a second internal drive and you are stuck with the camera, welcome to the camera/drive shuffle.
- shut down and remove the external hard drive(s) from the system
- connect the camera directly to the firewire port of the computer
- start the camera then the computer
- capture to your internal (system) hard drive
- shut down the camera and computer
- disconnect the camera and reconnect the external hard drive(s)
- start hard drive(s) and computer
- move captured files to external hard drive(s)
- edit
If you output back to tape or wish to view your work on an external Video (NTSC or PAL) monitor, you need to set up the camera to use the firewire out as the A/DV converter or VTR - which means reversing the steps:
- copy the file back to the internal drive
- shut everything down
- disconnect the external drive(s)
- connect the camera to the firewire port (and the TV to the camera if needed)
- start the camera then the computer
- play the file.
One caveat here - You may have difficulty getting the file back to tape without dropping frames. Playing files off of the system drive is very demanding and they may have a hard time keeping up.
All in all, if you do not have the option for second bus (i.e. iMacs, eMacs, iBooks, MacBooks) you may want to think about a computer with expandable options next time.
There is the option of capturing using iMovie, but that brings on it's own set of problems and is not recommended.
Good luck.

• Timelapse problem with final cut pro x

I am looking to make a timelapse in final cut pro x using a lot of different pictures. I believe to do this you make them all into a compound clip and then retime them to however fast you want it to be. For whatever reason, it is not playing as if i put all of the photos in and when i play it fast it just shows one still image. any idea how to make it play fast, and work, and show all of them photos in a fast sequence playback other then a single photo or two?

I think your problem is that you are applying the retime to the compound clip. The problem is that when you do this you are retiming the compound clip as a whole, not each picture. This explains why you are seeing only 1 or 2 pictures, because you are cutting down on the length of time the compound clip is shown, not how long each picture is shown. You need to edit each picture. And rather than do a retime I would set the duration of each picture since retiming a still image isn't really necessary. Take the pictures out of the compound clip (or start a new project), put the pictures in the timeline, select all pictures in the timeline (CMD+A), CTRL+D (this is the keyboard shortcut for change duration of selected clips), enter in a numerical value, press return. The number you enter will effectively adjust the speed of the timelapse. By default FCPX displays the timecode as HH:MM:SS:FF so if you enter a one and a zero and then press enter the duration will be changed to 10 frames. The number of frames you want to choose for the duration you are setting will be up to you and the frame rate of the project. That should give you the result you are looking for. If you need any clarification I'll do what I can.

• Installation Problem with Final Cut Pro X Training Disc

How do I allow read/write permissions with the sparseimage final cut pro X apple pro training series disc?  I can't copy the project files to my desktop.

Thanks for the response.  I'm not quite sure I understand.  I can't copy the file anywhere:  The Desktop, HD, Even an external hard disk due to (Error-36) which has something to do with the read/write permissions.  I've checked my disk and I'm listed as the administrator with both of these privileges.  I can't seem to get read/write from the DVD itself. It's most confusing!!!!!!  I'm able to download all other kinds of video from my external sources, but I can't seem to get an uncorrupted file into FCPX.

• Interlace problem with Final Cut Pro

Hi,
I have been using Final Cut Studio now from September and I am still learning things. I still have one problem that is persistent and have not found a solution anywhere, not in help or anywhere:
- I shoot my videos with Canon EOS 5D mark II DSLR at 1920x1080 30p.
- I want to keep the resolution and 30p, with no interlace spoiling the image
- I have been recently successful avoiding the disease called interlace, however now I started trying out the SmoothCam filter and each time after using it my image is ruined with interlace. It is in the rendered video as well, no matter if I use Compressor or FCP Quicktime conversion to render, despite I have selected 1920x1080 30p as output.
This is very aggravating because I don't want to know where the interlace is needed since I have no displays that would support interlace and don't know anybody who still would have (everybody is using FullHD something, so I try to create FullHD progressive content only, no tube television support of any kind is desired).
Here is a short example video how the FCP forces interlace. Look at the eyes on 1080p display:
http://www.katix.org/karoliina/media/aki.mov
Everything in my chain is 1080 30p progressive. I don't have anything interlaced anywhere. Still after smoothcam rendering the result ends this crappy. How can I fix this or is this a bug in the software?

I can't answer the question about MXF.
To the second question, are all parts of the FCS suite inside the top level of the Applications folder?
You must not rename, move them elsewhere or place them in a sub-folder. The updater will not see them.

• Transition Problems with Final Cut Pro

This is a crazy problem that's randomly popped and I hope someone can help.
While editing a movie in FCP, I suddenly started having problems with adding transitions between clips. I usually right-click "add transition" and the default used to be a second-long transition (I'd adjust the length according to my needs). Now the default length is just one frame (barely noticeable!) and FCP won't let me edit the transition length! I've tried everything from dragging and dropping from the "Effects" tab, to doing it from the drop down menu and nothing works. I can add the transition to a clip if there is no clip following it but then I can't add a clip for it to transition to! (Ex: I have Clip A and add "cross dissolve" and I can manipulate everything including the dissolve length. But when I want to dissolve from Clip A to Clip B, it won't let me do anything and just leaves me with a 1-frame-long dissolve. This happens with all transitions)
I have enough frames on both sides to do the transition. This never used to be a problem and now it is.
Help!

*I have more than enough handles. Each clip is over 10 seconds long and I'm just trying to do a 15 frame (about half second) transition.*
The length of your clips has nothing to do with having enough in the way of handles.
You cannot butt the absolute end of a clip to the absolute beginning of a clip and expect to add a transition. When this is the case, you are telling FCP that you want the transition to start on your last frame of video and end on the first incoming frame.... so it has no frames to use for the transition.
So, you have to trim the clips as I suggested so that FCP has something to work with.

• After upgrading problem with Final Cut Pro 7

Hi, I upgraded and when I open FCP it takes about 4 to 5 minutes to open. I've trashed all the prefs files but no help. Any thoughts about this or how I can figure out what is going on? Every other app in the suite opens quickly
Thanks for any suggestions
Derek

I just upgraded to FCP 7.0 today and will be upgrading to Snow Leopard later this afternoon, but wanted to check FCP 7 before and after.
My experience was the last project I did came up in less than 60 secs, the video is @ 15 mins long and is Standard Dev. The start of the FCP 7 took less then 30 secs to start.
Regarding your long start up time, as the application is starting, the FCP window shows whats its doing while starting.
Is there any places where it stops for a long time, if so, a reply with what is the last update may help.
Also check you console log, from utilities to see if its reports anything during this time.
Last but not least, are you connected to the internet ? I was in my case, but I have seen in the past with other apple apps that send some data to Apple while starting the application up. If Im not connected to the internet, the startup times can be as long as you state.
Good luck

• I have a problem with Final Cut Pro, I can't find my existing events and project anymore!

Can give somebody me how I can solve this problem?

Can we asssume that you upgraded to 10.1 and created those projects and events in an earlier version of FCP X?
Or is there more to the story?

• Best Graphics backgrounds for final cut pro and g-5's

I am not sure if this is the best place to post this but I was wondering if anyone could tell me what are some of the best graphics to use with final cut pro that work real well with a dual g5, this would be like quicktimes for backgrounds. I have had alot of people tell me after effects but then I am looking more for software that you dont have to build, I have been looking at Digital Juice and was wondering how well that works with final cut pro, are there any other High Quality graphics already put together, thanks for your help and if this is not posted in the right spot let me know where would be the place to post something like this. thanks

• HT5149 Hi, I still have problems reinstalling Final Cut Pro even though I followed these steps. Didn´t find "com.apple.motionapp.plist" to remove though, but the others I found. Reason why I have to reinstall is because I have repaired my Macbook Pro hard

Hi, I still have problems reinstalling Final Cut Pro even though I followed these steps.
Reason why I have to reinstall is because I have repaired my Macbook Pro hard drive at a Mac Authorized Repair.
Short history of repair and my Final Cut Pro installation:
1. Macbook Pro stopped working, sendt it for repair. Had the Final Cut Pro installed,
2. Desided to try a MiniMac and recovered my backup with Time Machine, got the Final Cut Pro working.
3. Got my Macbook Pro back from repair, did backup on this one as well. But this time only the files not the Applications.
4. Removed the files as mentioned in HT5149. Didn´t find "com.apple.motionapp.plist" to remove though, but the others I found.
5. When I try to install Final Cut Pro from App Store, it downloads the application as planned. But after download it won´t show in the Application folder nor in the downloads folder, nor will it start an installation prosess. If I pause the installation in App Store, I can see the Final Cut Pro icon in my Dock. (But, as mentioned, after installation it won´t show neither here or in the Applications folder).
Any suggestions on what I should try now?
Thanks for any reply, I´m in deep water here...

Sounds like there is a file you're not getting.  Never do a removal manually.  It's so time consuming and a pain.  There's a very easy and fast way to do this, safely, properly.
Get the free "Final Cut Remover" app from Digital Rebellion (dot com), use this to remove FCP X.
Reboot the Mac.
Download from scratch.
If you're not seeing FCP X in your app folder, run Disk Utility to Repair all drives.
If that doesn't help, try running Disk Warrior from Altsoft to repair the directories on all drives.

• Burning a DVD with Final Cut Pro 10 stops at 95%, why ?

Burning a DVD with Final Cut Pro X stops at 95%, why ?

Stops completely? Mine stopped at 95% for quite a few minutes then finished.  This is usually the time in the process where the lead out is being burned and it will not show progress for some time.  If it is taking more than 10 to 15 minutes from that point you may have another problem.

• Importing issues with Final Cut Pro X. Green flash and twitches while play back

Hello, I'm having some importing issues with Final Cut Pro X and I can't find any solution whatsoever. Perhaps my importing settings are wrong?
Anyways, I've done a lot of recordings on eye TV and HD PVR with some videos that are about 3 hours long. I exported them into H.264 files, which turns them into mpeg-4 files with AAC audio. Then I import them into final cut pro X and I notice it takes a long time for them to render the videos and I notice that there are some green screens and twitches while I play through the video.
Here is a screenshot of the green screen that I'm talking about:

Could it be my 2 video graphics card that is causing this kind of issues? Or is there any solution to fix this?
In the past, I've used iMovie 09 and it worked out perfectly. However, the new iMovie 11 is terrible because it automatically optimzie my 3 hour long videos into making the importing process to (144 hours long to import). Is there any way to get iMovie 09 back or am I stuck on dealing with this Final Cut Pro X issues?
