Graphical hardware defect (?)

Hi Community,
I hope that you can help me with this following problem:
At the beginning of january i gave my Mac Book Pro to an apple-certified repair
in hope they could solve a few defects of which i still don't know where they are coming from.
The screen appears in a strange flickering, mostly only when I exit standby. (in both cases, with and without opened laptop)
This problem existed before the repair and still after.
The flickering disappears when i move the display.
Sometimes the screen even remained black after exiting and I had to close the display and open again repeatedly.
I could also notice that sometimes the standby led illuminated wrongly. With closed display the laptop was working and with opened the standby started.
The repairman thought it was a logic board defect, so he replaced it.
After I could finally work again with my mac (yesterday) i must acknowledge that nothing was ok yet.
During operation suddenly the whole screen looked like one of those gameboyscreens in older times when the cartridge has been dirty and unreadable.
At the same time the led flashed and you could hear a "TUT, TUT, TUT" 3 times before the laptop was shut down.
When I tried to reboot, the acoustic signal came and it was shut down again.
Today I've tried to start my mac again. At first it has started with a black screen. After the second try it worked almost normally except the flickering...
Does anyone know from experience which technical problem i'm faced with and
what is to be done? Could the graphic card be the malefactor?
Thank you in advance.

Hi Christian, you're correct, the switch has warranty. You should call the Cisco small business support and ask for RMA.
Before doing do, I'd recommend to ensure you're on the lastest software 1.0.6.2 and factory default reset this switch. If the problem persist after then request RMA.

  • Success story: NVIDIA 8600M GT graphics card defect repaired at no cost

This is the story of Apple servicing my MacBook Pro with the NVIDIA graphics card defect.
I had the NVIDIA 8600M GT graphics card defect in my 2 year old MacBook Pro. The symptoms were pinkish images, scrambled and chopped images, and finally leading to no video, all within a matter of 3 days. I called AppleCare using the old number I remembered from my 100mhz Mac days: 1-800-SOS-APPLE. I was greeted by a real person within 3 minutes. She explained that my 90-day complimentary phone service had expired some 600 days ago.
After I mentioned the specific Apple Knowledge base article that described the defect (TS2377), and that it was covered up to three years out of warranty, she transferred me to a MacBook Pro specialist. Sheri ran me through several standard resets and reboots. She then suggested that it be taken into an Apple store for a genius to look at. When I explained that the nearest Apple Store was an hour away, she arranged for a mail-in service.
After the call had ended, I received a simple email with her phone number so that I could contact her if I needed to. Another automated email contained my repair case number and a link to check the status online. The online status center is very easy to use. It displayed three steps: Sending the empty box, service in progress and return. FedEx tracking numbers were included with working links.
The next day an empty box arrived, completely with graphical IKEA like packaging instructions and form fitting foam for my MacBook Pro. I knew when the FedEx truck came around, so I had my computer ready by my side. As soon as FedEx showed up, I explained that the empty box was for the computer and Marcos helped me apply the pre-paid return label and taped the box expertly with tape from his truck. I also placed in the box a copy of the Apple Knoweldge base article and pictures I had taken of the issue.
Apple had included a small stack of super adhesive pre-cut tape square, but Macros was already taping it before I figured out what they were. The return label was also pre-paid with overnight service.
The next day I logged into the online support status at Apple.com and checked my status. The tracking number showed it had arrived in Houston, and the three steps had been updated to "Repairs completed" and "Return in progress."
The return FedEx tracking number was displayed later in the evening, and it showed that it was guaranteed to arrive by 10:30AM the next day. Speedy service! Sure enough, the next day I had my computer back in my hands, all data perfect and intact. I was very worried since I was not able to make a back up before sending it in, and Apple does not guarantee data safety. Apple had replaced the logic board, valued at $700 on iFixit (http://www.ifixit.com/MacBook-Parts/MacBook-Pro-15-Inch-Core-2-Duo-2-2-GHz-Logic -Board/IF185-073).
The funny thing is, for the past 5 years, I have always cloned my drive or used time machine, but for the past two months I had cleared the backups to make up extra room on my externals. You really never know when disaster will strike!
    Learned:
    - Apple Customer Care is top notch, speedy and their status site is very easy to use
    - FedEx service was very helpful
    - If you have a NVIDIA graphics card, Mac or PC, check if your model is affected. Just today Sony announced that NVIDIA cards with defects will now be covered for 4 years out of warranty. (http://news.cnet.com/8301-13924_3-10307592-64.html)
    - Back up your stuff NOW. Use a flash drive or email files to yourself for a cheap fix.

    ha
got the same problem with my mbp (dec 2007)
also no video within 5 hours .... also no external video.
lucky i had screen sharing on so i could check the system profiler via an other mac.
It couldn't find the 6800M GT anymore...
did another backup and went to the local apple store
took a print out of Apple Knowledge base article that described the defect (TS2377)
and they replaced the logicboard+gpu for free within 10 days ...
everything is ok now except for my maxmsp copy which thinks it runs on an other machine and complains about a missing licence ....

  • Call of Duty Ghosts/ battlefield 4 Freeze; NVIDIA 331.65 driver: this driver could not find compatible graphics hardware

    I'm using imac 27 inch mid 2011
I've bought Call of duty Ghosts.. it require 6 GB ram, so i upgraded mine from 4 GB to 8 GB. Now i can run the game, after 2 sec, it freezes. So i tried to download NVIDIA 331.65 which says to be the solution. And then it says"this driver could not find compatible graphics hardware". So i couldnt download NVIDIA 331.65 ....
    Any idea?
This might be the problem for Battlefield 4 gamers too

There's an important distinction you need to make on NVIDIA's web site to get the "right" driver.
NVIDIA's driver finder has separate categories for the desktop and mobile variants.
You don't specify the computer model in question, so I'm going to throw in a guess that you have a notebook.  If this is so, or you have one of the iMacs or Mac minis with the 9400 MCP, then it's really a 9400M (the M standing for mobile), in which case you need the GeForce 9M drivers.
If installing these yields the same error, then the drivers can be modified so that they will install properly.  Google "nvidia mobile driver modder" if you wish to try.  I cannot, however, guarantee the results of such hacks even as I know they exist.

Hi, this morning I installed last upgrade of CC (05/28/2014) but it did a mess on the entire pc: when I launched Photoshop it appeared a driver error on my graphic hardware (I checked, everything was up to date nd correctly working) and Photoshop didn't respond; internet stopped to work too.
The only way was to uninstall The CC App and create a restore point after uninstalling  (It wasn't possible restore a previous one BEFORE the upgrade of this morning....)
    My Processor is Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4500U CPU @ GHz  2.40 GHz
    RAM is 8GB
What do I have to do?
    Reinstall it without upgrading it?
I would really appreciate that upgrades would be tested before being released.... -_-

  • Disable 'graphics hardware enhancements' in Photoshop CS6?

    Hi Everyone,
I have what is hopefully a straightforward question: I'm running Photoshop CS6 on a virtual machine. (That sounds weird but believe me when I say it works fine in a VDI environment and that's not the issue.)
When it launches, it predictably throws the familiar error message 'Photoshop has encountered a problem with the display driver," etc etc. This error message is expected since it's the VMware Tools driver.
What I'm wondering is if there's any way to disable this popup. It says it has "temporarily disabled enhancements which use the graphics hardware." What are those enhancements, and how do I disable them permanently?
    Thanks in advance!
edit: I have tried going into Preferences>Performance and tinkering with GPU options, but it's ghosted out as I have Design Standard.

Are you using a VM to run Windows on a Mac, or on a Windows system?  I ask, because the latter might provide better GPU support (I'm not sure).
I'm running Windows VMs on Windows 7 and I don't see the alert. I find I can use GPU acceleration in a VMware virtual machine, though the virtual VRAM isn't large enough to use 3D functionality.  I don't do a lot of production work in this mode, though, just testing.  But things like the animated zoom and other GPU functions seem to work just fine.
Make sure you have the latest VMware software.
Here's what I see in Photoshop Help - System Info when run in a VM with Photoshop CS6:

The best thing to do is to go into Help > System Info, copy and paste the contents into your reply.
One of us or several should be able to sort it out for you.

  • What graphics hardware is supported in CS6?

I receive a message that my graphics hardware is not officially supported by Adobe.  Can someone tell me what graphics card I need?

Generally speaking, yes, though you may want to pay special attention to removing nVidia software.  Start by going carefully through the control panel and remove the nVidia drivers and any other display card-related software you may find there.  There will be installation instructions with the ATI card, of course.
It may be helpful to search the web and see if you can find any sites that give ideas on what else to look for in switching brands from nVidia to ATI.  I've been through the process myself in the system I'm using now, a few years ago, and I do remember having to ferret nVidia software out from several places.
I haven't used it myself, but I've heard other people mention a software package called DriverSweeper that can help ensure all the old remnants of the nVidia drivers are removed.
If you have any trouble, write back here and knowledgeable folks will likely be able to help you get through the specifics.
