What is going on with this stupid machine

Machines are incapable of being stupid. Not so of their operators.
Placing your device into recovery (DFU-Device Firmware Upgrade) mode:
Follow these steps to place your iOS device into recovery mode. If your iOS device is already in recovery mode, you can proceed immediately to step 6.
       1. Disconnect the USB cable from the iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, but leave the
other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
       2. Turn off the device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds
until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the device to turn off.
                  * If you cannot turn off the device using the slider, press and hold the
Sleep/Wake and Home buttons at the same time. When the device turns off,
release the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons.
      3. While pressing and holding the Home button, reconnect the USB cable to the
device. The device should turn on. Note: If you see the battery charge warning,
let the device charge for at least ten minutes to ensure that the battery has some
charge, and then start with step 2 again.
      4. Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen.
When this screen appears you can release the Home button:
      5. If necessary, open iTunes. You should see the following "recovery mode" alert:
      6. Use iTunes to restore the device.
If you don't see the "Connect to iTunes" screen, try these steps again. If you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen but the device does not appear in iTunes, see this article and its related links.
    Additional Information:
If you have a problem getting into recovery mode then try: RecBoot: Easy Way to Put iPhone into Recovery Mode.
Note: When using recovery mode, you can only restore the device. All user content on the device will be erased, but if you had previously synced with iTunes on this computer, you can restore from a previous backup. See this article for more information.

  • Slow FPS, graphics and choppy video when connected to a Mini-DVI cable to external monitor on Macbook Mid2007 4GB RAM

    Hi,
I have a Mid-2007 Macbook white. I have upgraded its memory to 4GB. Snow Leopard was working great, and I said to myself maybe it's time to upgrade to Lion.
After the upgrade all was well. However, a big problem occurs when I plug in to the Mini-DVI display port with the HDMI adapter, to connect to my Sony LCD HDTV. The whole graphics and video slow down, everything is choppy. Quicktime and VLC video playback is strobe and choppy looks like very low Frame Rate. Cannot watch anything, not HD nor low resolutions. The entire computer is slow when the cable is connected.
    Things I tried:
*VGA adapter seems to work fine - it's the digital display output that probably causes that.
*Running it through a new user.
This never happened on Snow Leopard. i'm considering to go back. However, I am wondering if there is a way to fix this minor problem.

    Update:
We solved the problem. Weird solution but now it seems to work. I plugged a VGA adpater and played with the screen rsolutions to try and watch a movie well on my LCD screen. I changed the screen resolutions but I couldn't revert back to the default settings. Pressing "Detect Displays" didn't do anything.
Here is the interesting part: When I placed back the DVI-HDMI adapter, suddenly everything worked fine!!! There was no choppy videos, no low fps, works prefect.
Something weird is going on here, but I'm happy I managed to get the DVI to HDMI to work because I was about to removie Lion and bring back Snow Leopard.

  • How to connect 2 24" Cinema Displays to a non Thunderbolt MBP

Hi I have a 2010 15" MBP and two 24" Apple Cinema Displays.  I recently purchased a Matrox DualHead2Go Digital ME graphics expander thinking I could connect the two displays to it.  However, the displays have mini displayport connectors and the Matrox is expecting DVI-D connectors.  It seems that Matrox do not have a female mini displayport to male DVI adaptor so I am stuck.
Has anyone found a way of connecting two 24" Apple Cinema Displays to a non Thunderbolt MBP?
    Thanks in advance
    Neville

Just got the DualHead2Go DP edition. Problem is, I need a MiniDP (female) to DP (male) adapter to connect my two Apple 24" LED displays to it... and I can't find one anywhere? basically the DualHead2go only has DP inputs. All of my devices (24" LED displays and 17" MBP) are MiniDP.
    Anyone have any ideas?

  • Resolution Problem Connecting MBP to Envision Television

Hello, I am using a MacBook Pro 15" 2.16 Intel Core Duo with 2 gigs of RAM and an ATI Radeon X1600 256 MB RAM graphics card and I am connecting it to an Envision 19" L19W698 Television via a HDMI to DVI cable and I am not getting the supported 1440x900 resolution. Heres the thing, I first connected the display via a VGA to VGA/DVI converter to the MBP and it supported a 1440x900 resolution and the picture quality was great, so I thought I would simplify things a little and got a HDMI to DVI cable since the TV supported HDMI. I set it up and the supported resolutions are:
    640x480
    720x480
    800x600
    1024x768
    1280x720
    1440x240
    1920x540
With the automatic resolution set to 1024x768 at 60 hertz. I change the refresh rate and nothing happens, I tried putting the display pref in the menubar because I read that sometimes helps, I restart, reconnect, log out, etc... and the resolutions do not change. My question, is this an issue with the second display, with the cable or with the MBP and is there anything I can do about it? Thank you.
    Dan

    Welcome to Apple Discussions, dsp2222.
I'm guessing the TV doesn't support a native resolution input over HDMI. That's not as unusual as you might imagine on lower end TVs. Does the Envision user manual say anything about making computer connections? Does it say it works over HDMI?
Often HDMI is dedicated to devices that output standard video formats of which 1440 x 900 is not. That's a long way of saying you are probably stuck with the VGA connection.

  • HT201262 screen on the TV flickering purple when connecting mini mac to TV through HDMI

anybody come across a problem with the TV connected to Mini mac, when i connect my HDMI cable to my TV and open up safari click onto Apple.com watch a video on their home page in full screen the screen flickers purple any ideas what could be the problem.

    Hey there Daza2014,
It sounds like you are having some graphical issues with an TV connected to your mac mini. I found this article for you to help troubleshoot what you are seeing here:
Apple computers: Troubleshooting issues with video on internal or external displays
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1573
    This section in particular:
No video or no signal, image distortion, "snow," or flickering
    Check connections
When using an external display be sure to check the following:
If you're using an Apple notebook, confirm the AC power cable or adapter is securely connected to the computer and the cable providing power to the display is also secure. It is always good to have your notebook connected to AC power when an external display is in use.
Confirm display adapters are fully seated in their respective connections and that they are supported models and for the computer and display. Refer to these articles to assist you with adapter compatibility and further configuration information:
    Monitor and Display Adapter Table
About Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapters
Apple Mini DisplayPort adapters: Frequently asked questions (FAQ)
Thunderbolt ports and displays: Frequently asked questions (FAQ)
Remove all display cable extenders, KVM switches, or other like devices and retest to determine if the issue is resolved.
Try unplugging the video adapter or cable and then plug it back in.
If more than one video adapter is in use (or "daisy-chained"), troubleshoot by using only one adapter.
Example: A mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter connected to a DVI to HDMI adapter is an unsupported configuration because there is a series of adapters in use.
If available, try using a different display and or adapter (or use a different connector by using DVI instead of VGA, for instance).
Reset the systemYou can reset the Mac's parameter RAM and SMC.Reset the resolutionStart by resetting the Mac's parameter RAM. If the display does not come up, was previously set to an unsupported resolution, and still results in no video:
    Start up in Safe Mode.
From the Apple () menu, choose System Preferences.
Choose Displays from the View menu to open the preferences pane.
Select any resolution and refresh rate that your display supports.
    Restart your computer.

  • DDR NVidia GeForce FX 5200 graphicis card & 30" Mac HD monitor

I am a new Mac user, having had Dell desktops all my life. Recently, my Dell W1700 monitor/tv crapped out, and (of course) it is just out of warranty.
This prompted me to by a Mac Book Pro with a 30" HD monitor (to work with the PC also).
    MY QUESTION:
Like many in here, I want to use the Mac HD monitor with the Mac Book Pro as well as the Dell PC (8300 series). I suspect that the cable connections may not be compatible (pins appear to have a different configuration) though the Dell LCD TV/monitor did use DVI cable in conjunction with a separate green audio cable.
I've already read and reviewed how to set up the laptop with the lid closed while utilizing the HD monitor. Now I need to troubleshoot the HD/PC connections.
    Help!
PS-is the spell check feature in this forum messed up or what? I've never had so many idiotic "suggestions".

    Hi-
    Welcome to Discussions!
The 30" Apple Cinema Display requires a computer with a dual link DVI equipped graphics card. It can connect to single link DVI, but without a dual link, the 30" ACD will not operate at optimal resolution (2550x1600). The 30" ACD is equipped with a dual link DVI-D connector.
I believe your 5200 has a single link DVI-I (2048x1536 max resolution), which will allow coupling with a DVI-I or DVI-D connector.
    30" ACD supported resolutions:
    2560 x 1600 pixels (optimum resolution)
    2048 x 1280
    1920 x 1200
    1280 x 800

  • How to connect multiple monitors to a R6970 2PM2D2GD5?

This issue is driving me round the bend because everytime I want to connect a new monitor to my card I run into problems and I can't seem to find a complete authorative answer as to how and what I can connect.
Currently I have 3 monitors connected:
    2x DVI
    1x MiniDP-DVI (active)
I now want to connect a 4th monitor and tried it via the HDMI-Port. But alas, it doesn't work. Someone in a different forum said I couldn't combine the 2xDVI with the HDMI.
So what can I connect simultaneously?
    Which ports can I combine?
And how do I do that?
What cables/adapter etc do I need?
Is there any info/manual/etc available which tells me that?
(First time I failed because I tried a non-active MiniDP-DVI dongle, till somebody told me I needed an active, ...)

OK, here is the AMD multi monitor set-up tool. Its interactive and you start by choosing the amount of monitors you want to connect. Good luck and let us know.

Edit: Here is something of note in the AMD FAQ section.
    Quote
How many non-DisplayPort monitors can I use with an AMD Eyefinity technology-enabled graphics card?
You can connect up to two non-DisplayPort monitors at one time to an AMD Eyefinity technology-enabled graphics card using non-DisplayPort connections or passive DisplayPort dongles. To enable and drive 3 or more non-DisplayPort monitors at one time, the additional non-DisplayPort monitors must be connected with an active DisplayPort dongle
You will need this active Display port dongle.  All the requirements and FAQs are in this link http://www.amd.com/us/products/technologies/amd-eyefinity-technology/how-to/Pages/faqs.aspx#whats-the-diff

  • P6 Web Access connection to MS SQL Server database using TCP Dynamic Ports

    Hi,
I am attempting to install P6 Web Access. When I run the installation and do the database configuration I am required to input a port number into the Database Host Port field. I do this and no error is displayed graphically, but I get a connection refused error when I look in the web access log.
"com.microsoft.sqlserver.jdbc.SQLServerException: The TCP/IP connection to the host has failed. java.net.ConnectException: Connection refused: connect "
The dba is running the database on an sql server farm and does not want to apply a static tcp port to the Primavera database as this will interfere with his other databases.
The fact that it appears to be mandatory to input a host database port during database configuration, has me thinking that P6 Web Access requires that the database be set up with a static TCP port? Is this correct?
I searched the documentation about this but came away with nothing...
any help would be truly appreciated.
    Andy

At my previous company we experienced a similar issue with P6 Web. Our P6 database was hosted on an Oracle RAC and when configuring the Web connection I was forced to point it to a single RAC server rather then allow it to utilize the cluster. If you have found a resolution to this I would be interested in hearing about it.

  • Why gnome-ppp establish mobile broadband connection, not networkmanager

I am using usb radio modem AirPlus MCD-650 on my summer cottage and trying to setup internet. I have both Ununtu and Archlinux partitions, but prefer to use Arch, because my computer is too old for heavy Ubuntu OS.
There is no problem to connect to internet from ubuntu network-manager-applet in Gnome panel (which uses networkmanager daemon), even from LiveCD. But in Archlinux, following instructions on http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Network_manager fails to succed. But another way: to use gnome-ppp program (graphic interface for wvdial) establishes connection. I prefer first way as less "clickable" and wonder if somebody can explaim me my mistakes.
As I noticed, in Ubuntu there are both lines in right-click network-manager-applet menu
    1)Enable networking
    2)Enable mobile broadband
but in Arch only first one in this place. May be it can help.

  • IdeaCentre K230 - Doesn't detect graphics cards (in PCI-E Slot)

     Hello,
I bought a IdeaCentre K230 like 1 or 2 weeks ago and tried to install a graphics card. It did not work. Is it possible this motherboard (the stock one that came with the desktop) does not detect it as it does not show in the Device Manager? Because it didn't detect an Nvidia one i had before. Sorry I am real new to this hardware stuff.
So I purchased a ATI Radeon HD 4670 graphics card today and tried to install it. I first disabled my on-board graphics driver(s)/adapter (Intel(R) G33/G31 Express Chipset Family) and then I powered off my computer, opened the case, installed the 4670 into the PCI Express slot and put the case back into it's place.
Then I turned on my computer and it was a 800x600 resolution. So I went into Device Manager and checked Display Adapters and I did not see the Radeon. So I opened the CD/DVD drive and inserted the CD that came with the graphics card. Then I ran the installation and it said "Installation complete. Errors have occurred" (or something to that effect). So I was like *** I'm pissed since this is the second card I have tried (previous being an Nvidia). And I'm not sure if I needed to plug the DVI cable for my monitor into the card so I did that and restarted and nothing showed (however I did hear the fan running, so it does have power). So then I plugged in the standard VGA into the adapter thing that came with it (that you plug in a VGA and then you plug the adapter into the card outputting a DVI signal thingy??), got nothing. So then I plugged the VGA into the one that is not on the card but on the computer itself. Then display showed (again, in 800x600). I am sure that the card is physically installed properly as I hear the fan running, and see it running. I also might add that the graphics card does not require additional power as it gets its power via the PCI Express port.
Please, PLEASE help me as to what I am doing wrong.
The Nvidia 9600 GSO did not work because the motherboard did not detect it (according to Geek Squad @ Best Buy). I am afraid that might be the problem of this one too. But I really want a good graphics card to work in my computer.
    Computer Specs:
    Pentium Dual-Core CPU E5200 @ 2.50GHz (5.00 total GHz)
    6.00 GB ram
    Windows Vista 64-bit

I wouldn't say that the power supply would be the problem. It would definitely keep the graphics card from reaching it's full potential.
Generally you would do the following....
    Power off computer.
Flip the switch on the power supply to off.
    Open case.
Insert the card into the PCI-E x16 slot.
Connect VGA/DVI to graphics card. [If required, connect power supply to graphics card. But I see this is not the case.]
    Boot up computer.
    Install driver.
    Adjust resolution/settings.
    Enjoy.
    Try reseating the graphics card.

  • I have a hp2311x led monitor. It is connected with an hdmi. The picture does not fill the screen?

How do you get a full screen on this monitor? When I go to menu image control, custom scaling and change the overscan from auto to on the picture is streched and does not properly fit on the screen.  Any suggestions.  I have a AMD Radeon HD 6670 1 GB DDR5 video card on a new Dell xps8300 I-7.

    Hi...
You need to go into the Catalyst control panel, find the option for HDTV and there should be the control to reduce the underscan to 0%. The issue is that HDMI is a CE ( i.e. TV) standard so the graphics card treats the HDMI connection as a TV and will underscan to compensate for standard TV overscan.
