Graphics card crashing

I have a 2007 Mac Pro.  A couple years ago my graphics card failed and I replaced it with the Apple graphics card upgrade.  In the last couple of months I have experienced a problem where I will randomly lose the signal to the displays all of the sudden.  The only way to fix it is to hard reset.  This happens more qickly and frequently when running a second monitor.

You said you could only fix it with a power-button off and a re-boot.
Much less traumatic, and sometimes successful, is to put your Mac to sleep, even for a few seconds, and then wake it.
You can do this "blind" regardless of your settings using Control-Eject. This brings up this old Dialog box (whether you can actually see it on not). The letter S puts your Mac to sleep. The next key you type wakes it again. Try it now, before you have a probelm.

  • Everytime I start up Photoshop, my graphic card Crashes!

So when I start up Photoshop it starts loading the items and stuff but than I believe it gets to the 3D Stuff or Something when my Graphic Card Crashes. My Graphics Card is an AMD Radeon HD 6410D I've tried to update it but no Updates found for it(It's up to date) So can it not handle this? (The Error message it gives me is The Graphics card has stopped but recovered) Or something like that.

I went to the site, downloaded the installer, Installed it, checked to see if it still crashes and it does. Oh well... I guess I'll just live with it. Do you know anyway to FULLY Disable 3D Graphics because I believe that's what's causing the crashing.

  • IMAC 24Inch with NVidia 256 MB graphics card CRASHED NO SCREEN STARTUP HELP

HI there, wondering if anyone has had their nvidia GT graphics card crash then the screen go black?
I got home tonight, my ali imac 24inch, looks like its off, I turn it on, everything boots up but no
screen. Ive shared the screen through my macbook and look at the system info and it says under graphics displays "No information found" What does this mean? Has my graphics card destroyed itself?
    It better not have! HELP!!!

Actually you may find that you have more success with an AMD\ATI Radeon video card.
I have experienced that with some motherboards, specifically Pegatron motherboards.
The problem is that you are delving into the DIY gaming PC realm and  trying to do it with a prebuilt desktop PC.
Upgrading a prebuilt PC does not always result in a success story. Don't even consider trying to install cutting edge gaming memory modules. That will be a definite disappointment for you.
You may get lucky with an AMD Radeon HD video card.
But...You might just run into the same frustrating scenario you are facing today. I wish I had better news to give you.

  • FP11 - Graphics Card Crashes

    Hi Adobe,
I'm experiencing regular graphics card crashes when viewing Molehill demos using the latest FP release 11.0.1.3d.
For instance, these demos cause my entire screen to go black for 5 seconds and crash my whole browser:
    http://www.ringo.nl/projects/away3d/broomstick/LoaderOBJTest.html
    http://blam3d.com/demos/f16uvtest.html
Any also, I can't watch any videos on Vimeo and half the time, youTube videos won't play for me.
I've lodged bugs for these issues in Jira:
    https://bugs.adobe.com/jira/browse/FP-7191
    https://bugs.adobe.com/jira/browse/FP-7192
But I'd like to know from Adobe, will these crashes go away when FP11 is released? There are so many different PC/Graphics Card combinations, will Adobe be able to ensure that Molehill applications won't cause crashes?
My team has invested a lot of time in a big app that uses Molehill, but we are getting very nervous seeing so many crashes - please re-assure me and my team that FP11 Molehill will be rock solid at the time of release!

obviously its NOT fine, and stability in a handful of other applications means jack.
different applications apply different load in different manners to the hardware.
There is an evident history of improperly configured hardware or actual hardware combinations causing problems in D3D but not in OpenGL, or in OpenGL but not in D3D.
such is the case with a VIA KT600 and an nvidia GFX card at AGP 8x causing graphical corruption and crashes in D3D that never occured in opengl, or an overclocked i7 that absolutely only ever hung in opengl apps but not in direct3d apps(voltage insufficient).
The sooner people stop blinding themselves to the realities of just how much a precise configuration matters, the sooner they'll fix their own problems.
Seriously, if i can deploy flash across a wide assortment of hardware configurations and not get crashes or blackscreens, then its definitely saying about the  configurations of the denialists who claim their system is fine.

  • (bootcamp) graphics card crash when playing games

Firstly apologies if I've put this in the wrong section of the forum... this is the most applicable I could find.
Having tried to enquire at the good folks of AMD, they told me I needed to see apple. Finding a support email is nigh on impossile - so either that or advice on this issue would be greatly appreciated!
I have a boot camp partition on a mid 2011 macbook pro - my graphics card is Radeon HD 6750M.
I have recently been experiencing graphics card crashes when playing games.
There is no boot camp update available, so I am forced to update the driver manually. Trying to use the automated detection/installation tool on the ATI site resulted in the error "your computer doesn't have a proper graphics adapter"
When I located and downloaded the mac bootcamp drivers from the ATI site site, and I tried to install these it was unable to detect my existing microsoft C++ distributable or install its own - so the installation failed.
    All advice welcome!

yeah - it *might* have fixed my issue - or at least it hasn't crashed yet... jynxed it now ofcourse ;p I have acouple of questions though...
Why did this just start happening - I've played other games and this game before without these crashing issues?
I'm worried about configuring this fan thing correctly - lots of 'if your hardware gets damages it's not my problem' warnings on the software site. I know there's only 4 options - how do I ensure I select the right one? ie I thought I had a unibody macbook pro but it can't find the second GPU?

  • Graphics card crash - MacBook Pro running Mac OS X Snow Leopard

    Hi,
Yesterday I was playing Age of Empires III for Mac, and at the start of a Skirmish mission, where there wasn't much going on yet, the game seized, and then after a while the screen started flickering to black in these big horizontal chunks... I was unable to quit, restart, force quit, nothing.
Pretty much the whole bottom of the screen went black, while a middle part was flashing on and off.
I'm afraid there might be something wrong with my graphics card.
Here's the crash report after I force-shutdown my MBP, and started it again:
Also, the MacBook Pro is only a few months old and there seems to be other problems:
    1. There's dust under the glass of my screen!
    2. When I try to put a CD in, it gets caught on some stuff, and I have to jimmy it around to get it inside
    3. The bottom of the laptop creeks really loud when it's on my lap (which isn't often, but still, worrying and not very Apple-ish noise every time I handle it), the case moves, etc.
What should I do? I've had laptops repaired in the Apple Store a few times before, and they always ended up coming up worse than they went in. New problems, etc.

    Hi
The dust & cd & creaking won't get better, regrettably - so back it would go, for me anyway - unless you really feel it'll be made worse.
Later mbp's have an auto graphic switching setting in System Prefs-Energy Saver - try switching that off -
    assuming the crashes are repeatable.

Since you haven't had good luck at your local Apple Store, maybe you should consider sending your Mac off to the Repair Depot for diagnosis and repair. Call Apple and tell them about all of the troubles you have been having. You might also try running the extended version of the Apple Hardware test--if you get any error codes, that would point to a specific hardware fault.
My niece did this, and the turnaround was really fast. She sent hers off on a Tuesday evening, and got it back the following Thursday morning. From what I hear, the repair depot is really good.
Be sure to make a good backup of your data before sending it in. Sometimes they erase the hard drive and reinstall the OS during the troubleshooting process. If you have replaced the RAM, send it in with the original Apple RAM.
If the problem is intermittent, be sure to include a screen shot and the crash report.
    Good luck!

  • Expansion Box _ Multiple Graphic cards Crash

    Hello
I have this configuration: I work on Octane render With Maxon Cinema 4D. I bought an expansion box to have 4 extra Titan's card to speed my render.
Adobe CS6 coud run side by side with this conf runing.
Since my update to Adobe CC, Premiere pro check graphic cards present on the computer and don't understand whats going on with the box plug in the second PCI express card. So premiere Crash every time my box is on.
So in my Workflow I'm obiged to shut down the box every time I want to work with Premiere.
    My Question:
Where I can ask to an engineer to lean over my problem, to have the oportunity to Premiere do do like in CS6 and use only one graphic card. It certainly be easy to check or uncheck this option in the pref.
With the futur Mac pro it will have this problem too because the expansion box will be obliged.

  • Graphics card crash on Mac Pro RAID

I've had a very odd issue with a Mac Pro RAID running SL client.
The Mac Pro serves files to a small network of Macs and is usually very reliable, however I was archiving and moving around a lot of files (over 100gb) overnight and when I returned next day, the monitor that the Mac pros connected to wouldn't show the desktop screen.
The monitor had power, and the Mac was turned on, still serving files as normal and had not crashed in any way.
I VNC'ed into this Mac and the desktop appeared, and looking in system profiler the video card wasn't there.
    A restart sorted it out.
This has happened a few times and it's always when a large file copy is in progress overnight. The screen is switched off overnight by default.
I've thought the graphics card (ATI Radeon HD 5870) maybe overheated, so I cleaned the inside of the Mac of dust (it was a bit dusty but not much), but the problem remains, always when a large file copy takes place.
The past couple of times this has happened I couldn't even VNC into the Mac and had to restart it remotely using the terminal.
I've seen this article from Apple, but the video card cables are connected as normal:
Mac Pro (Mid 2010): Black screen after installing ATI Radeon HD 5870
My next steps are a hardware test, but would that test the video card?
    Any help much appreciated.

  • Satellite Pro L100 PSLA4: ATI graphic card crashes in Half Life 2, Team Fortress 2

    Hi,
I have a Sattelite Pro L100 (PSLA4) with ATI Radeon Xpress 200M graphics card.
While playing Team Fortress 2 and Half Life 2 Episode 2, the system often crashes (screen goes black, then blue, then computer automatically resets). After restarting, the Microsoft Error Report tells me that it is a problem with the ATI card display driver and recommends updating the driver.
I note Toshiba has not released a new display driver for this card since 2005, and attempts to update through the ATI website do not work.
Is there any way to update the graphics driver, or does Toshiba have any plans to release an update.
    Thanks,
    Ian

Hey Jimi, do you know how awesome you are? The answer is "completely".
I have had various problems with the outdated graphics driver for quite some time, and never knew about the Omega Drivers site, but everything works now thanks to you. I couldn't update the driver using the "Install from specific location", but I just ran the setup program that I downloaded from Omega Drivers, and it installed and worked fine.
I can't thank you enough, thank you thank you thank you thank you etc.

  • Graphics Card Crashes When I Open Final Cut X

Never happend before, i started a project for a timelapse video and loaded about 3000 photos into final cut, loaded them to the timeline and 10 seconds later my whole computer restarted. I tryed opening again, right when my project opens, my computer restarts again.
I have the imac 27" mid 2011, everything updated, i have 16gb ram with about 600gb free harddrive space.
I know its my graphics card causing the problem for sure knowing by using Pro Maintenance tools. Im using Final Cut X (10.0.6).
What do i do, im stressting out!!!!!

If you're certain it is the graphic card then you're only recourse is to have it repaired by Apple or an Authorized shop.
If you're near an Apple Store then that wil be the quickest solution.

  • X800 pro graphic card crashes with any 3d game

    Help !!!!!!!!!!!
I have a radeon x800 pro (256) card.  I have tried this card in 2 machines, both with MSI boards (neo range).
The card will work for days and days on the net or watching movies, but after about 3-5 minutes playing a 3d game (FEAR...) the screen just goes crazy !!!!!!!!!!
    Any ideas ???????????????????????????????
    Thanks

I think you are encountering artifacts with your graphics card which leads to a few possibilities:
    1) Overheating.
    2) Insufficient Power.
    3) Bad Installation of drivers.
    4) DirectX not updated.
I would need you to post your full system specs + PSU specs amps for more verification purposes.

  • Flash Player causes Graphic card to crash then recover successfully on two identical systems.

    Hello,
Ever since the latest update with Adobe Flash Player, I've been having problems with flash in general on my computer. My brother has the same exact computer and he also has this issue. I can uninstall Flash Player and the problem stops completely and the moment I install it again, the problem persists. I've looked just about everywhere and figured I'd post it on here for a solution.
    The problem:
The graphic card crashes and then recovers successfully when using Flash Player in general (happens most of the time when listening to a playlist on youtube and when the webpage is loading/changing to the next song). It also causes blue squares to appear on my monitor in random places. Flash videos become disturted and appear as blocks of fuzzy colors representing what they should really be when in full screen watching the video.
Troubleshot to conclude it was Flash Player:
I did extensive research and troubleshooting on my end, the problem started when I updated flash player with the auto-updater. I bench-marked my computer with running multiple programs and games to the maximum effort my computer could handle without flash installed (needless to say, no problem occurred). I then installed flash according to specs and ran a youtube playlist alone on Internet Explorer, the problem did occur. I then tried it with FireFox and Google Chrome, the same problem occurred.
I had my brother reformat his computer and install everything according to spec (all of his drivers are up to date as well) and the problem persisted with his end so I haven't done that, since it'd be to no avail.
I have even uninstalled Flash Player using the uninstaller executable that's supposed to remove everything from Flash Player and tried to install the version that worked prior to the update and it's as if something from Flash isn't being removed because the problem happens with the old version too as well.
Our computer specs are as follows:
    Manufacturer: CyberPower, Inc.
    Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 CPU 920 @ 2.67GHz
    Memory(RAM): 3.00GB
    System Type: 64-bit Operating System
Operating System: Windows Vista Home Premium Service Pack 2
Graphic Card: ATI Radeon HD 4800 Series (Actual card is ATI Radeon 4850)
If I should post something else, let me know and I will. This problem is kind of annoying to be honest so any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time and assistance.

    Hello,
Sadly this does not fix the problem on either computer. The video still comes in distorted while watching videos and the graphic card still crashes on song change while listening to a youtube playlist. The drivers are updated on both computers. As stated, this started happening when auto-updating to the latest version of Adobe Flash Player from the system tray icon. I can't even un-install flash and revert back to the version that worked before this update since it's as if something from Flash Player doesn't get uninstalled when using the uninstaller because the problem happens on all versions of Adobe Flash Player that I've tried. Thanks for your time and assistance.
