Graphics card help please

Hey guys I asked for help recommending a video card but I am afraid I need more help.
I have ordered the Sapphire X800 XT VIVO PE and should be with me in a week. I decided on this card over the 6800 GT and Ultra as from a lot of benchmarks I have seen it runs at faster frame rates at higher resolutions on current games (1600x1200) such as UT2004 etc.
However obviously the card isn't cheap and I want to make ABSOLUTELY sure I am doing the right thing. The 6800 Ultra and the X800 XT-PE are the same price so I can go with eathier.
The reason I am asking is from what people have been talking about is that the 6800 card may have better technology in the long run and so in future games it will perform better where as the ATI X800 XT is more solid in current games.
I want to future-proof my computer the best I can with my money for all the latest games (Doom 3, Half life 2, Vampire Redemption, KOTOR Sith lords etc).
The 6800 Ultra taking up a PCI slot also isn't an issue for me.
I want your opinions please on what card will be better overall. I know the GT is the best option for price/performance but I want the BEST card, price isn't an issue (for once).
Any advice greatly appreciated, help me spend my money wisely

Nevermind guys have cancelled the X800 XT and have a BFG OC 6800 Ultra 256mb on the way

  • IMac Graphics card (help please!!)

    Hi there!
I am using the newest iMac 21.5 inch with the 2.7 ghz i5 and the nvidia gt640m. I really want to play RCT3 which was released on appstore not too long ago, and the macchecker on some gaming website says my graphics can handle, but the list of supported graphics cards on the mac appstore page for the game lists the following as compatable:
    NVIDIA GeForce 8600, 8800, 9400, 9600, GT 120, 320M, 330M, 650M
Does this mean that my GT640M will not be supported like the GT650M and other lower end graphics card are? I know that this game also supports intel HD 4000, I might even be willing to purchase an MBP with HD 4000 to play this game (if I haveto.) Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, I'd tend to think they just haven't tested the 640M, since far lesser cards are supported.

  • Does an upgraded graphics card help stability within FCP?

I have been having some issues, working on a documentary about two hours long shot on Sony EX-1. The timeline contains a mix of footage (24 1080p, 30 1080p, 24 720p, 30 720p) all rendered to 30fps ProRes 422. No effects at this point, mostly just the transcoding during render.
It crashed when I export through compressor to DVD, and will not render the whole project without crashing. Sometimes, when I select just a portion of the project to render, within the main timeline, once it is done renedering that section, it looses the rest of the render for the entire project.
All this points me to some hardware issues, probably ram, but i have been advised to purchase a high end graphics card to carry the burden of exporting. (currently using the stock ATI Radeon HD 2600) As far as I have known, a graphics card holds no bearing on this process. I know a new graphics card helps a lot in Motion, AE and such, but I am only concerned about editing in FCP at this point.
Thanks for any thoughts you may have.

Are you mixing formats and resolutions in the timeline? If so, you might consider converting all the the same format before editing.
Try exporting a selfcontained quicktime and then bringing that quicktime into compressor.
Oh yeah, make sure you don't have any cmyk graphics.

  • Problem with NEW H520 when installed new power supply & graphic card. Please help!

My H520 was working perfectly and was running FAST..especially when rebooting. ( It was AWESOME!  )Then I installed a new power supply (Coolmax 400w) and a new graphic card (Sapphire Radeon HD6450) and then everything changed.  Now my computer is booting very SLOWLY and all the programs are taking a long time to load too.  I was getting a black screen for almost a full 2 minutes before the windows 8.0 screen would finally load up and then it hangs there for a few seconds and finally goes to the start screen in windows.  But BEFORE I installed this new hardware, when I would reboot, I would see the Lenovo splash screen come up for a few short seconds and then it instantly went to the windows welcome screen.  And even then I would barely have enough time to see the welcome screen before it instantly loaded into the windows start screen.  Everything would load up fast on the desktop too and we'd be good to go. It all took about 30 SECONDS.
But now? It takes MINUTES to get everything going.   After it FINALLY loads up (it takes almost 2 full minutes now!), everything hangs up.  When you first click on the desktop, it takes a few seconds for all of the icons to pop up.  Before I loaded the new hardware, everything loaded up instantly.  I didn't even see the icons load because they were already there.  But now I have to wait for them to load up before I can even see them.  And it's like that with every program and web browser I try to use now.  Everything hangs up at first and then finally loads.  The programs work but they are sluggish.
So I uninstalled the new power supply and put back in the original 280w power supply and I took out the graphic card but it did no change.  The machine is STILL running slow on everything it does and booting very slowly.
I have seen this problem mentioned elsewhere about Lenovo computers but there is never a solution.  Please help!  It took me a long time to save up for this computer and I have been babying it ever since.  I will never be able to afford a new one or pay for tech repair.  I need to fix this!    I was so thrilled with this computer before the hardware upgrade. This is devastating to me that it is working so poorly now when all I was trying to do was upgrade it a little bit.     Now it's performing horribly and it's only 6 months old.
I ran a four hour test on the hard drive and it is fine.  I ran all the system clean ups, optimizations, registry cleanups, windows disk cleaner, defragger and virus scans. Nothing is showing up as not working but there is CLEARLY a problem.  It was never this slow.   And why is it STILL acting this slow even after I uninstalled all of the new hardware that made it start acting this way and went back to the original setup?
I'm trying to run a memory test on it now but the BIOS will NOT allow me to select another drive to boot from so I can't boot from the flash drive or CD drive to run the memory test.  I have NO IDEA what to do next and I am starting to pull my hair out in frustration.
Please, is there anything that can be done to make it better again?
Any help would be HUGELY appreciated.    Thank you!
    Sincerely,
    Jennifer

I totally give up!!  I restored everything to the ORIGINAL state with drivers AND hardware and STILL everything is not working properly like it was BEFORE the upgrade.
So this has been the WORST experience with Tech support EVER!!  I have spent DAYS on the phone for HOURS with these technicians and nobody seems to know what they are doing.  They put me on hold every 10 minutes and are gone for 10 to 15 minutes and when they come back, they seem all set on a new solution but when you ask them questions about it, they have NO CLUE how to answer and then they put you on hold again.  Nothing gets solved and after HOURS on the phone, I just tell them to stop because we are getting no where but running around in circles that make no sense.    THIS A NIGHTMARE!!
So I totally gave up on being able to upgrade this machine.  To any future buyers, I STRONGLY recommend you do all upgrading BEFORE you get it home for the first time.  Make sure you have your power supply and graphic card INCLUDED before you bring it home or you're mostly likely going to have a NIGHTMARE upgrading it later.    Technical support is a HORROR STORY and expect to be WAITING for LOOOOONNNNG periods of time both ON THE PHONE and ONLINE and probably ending up with NO SOLUTION in the end.
I've VERY upset with how this turned out!!  I'm just gonna have to deal with the fact that my computer is permenantly messed up and NOBODY AT LENOVO knows how to fix it.    So I'm stuck.
I decided to send back the new power supply and the new graphic card because of this nightmare with tech support.  I put everything back to the way it was when I bought the computer and it is STILL acting up!!  I just want to revert it back to factory settings .. INCLUDING THE BIOS... but Lenovo said I have to send the WHOLE computer back to them to do that.  All I can do from home is restore from a point in the hard drive and that's not enough.  I need a TOTAL CLEAN INSTALL.  Everything needs to be wiped out and reset, not just restored to a previous restore point.  I've done this multiple times and all it does is erase all the programs and stuff I put on the computer.  The drivers and other codes are still the same.  And then bugs come up and things get all wonky.  I NEVER HAD THIS PROBLEM BEFORE I TRIED TO UPGRADE IT!!
I am NOT comfortable with Lenovo's "solution". I do NOT want to send my computer back to them for them to reset it with factory disks ESPECIALLY when they stated that they are NOT responsible for any damage in transport or otherwise. I have to buy extra packaging to make sure it gets there safely. They told me to use the original box and packaging, that is the only way they can be sure it will get there safe.  Who has the original stuffing SIX MONTHS LATER?!?! I don't want to be sending my computer across the country to get jostled all over the place and have that add to the slowness of the hardware because it was jostled.
Can't I reset it from home?  Can they not send ME the disks instead of me sending my whole computer to them?
I'm so incredibly frustrated with this.  I hope somebody answers quickly and that I don't have to wait DAYS to get a response again.
I absolutely LOVED my Lenovo computer!  And then I tried to upgrade it.  BIG MISTAKE!!  Now everything is totally messed up and Lenovo's customer support for technical problems is HORRID!!
Somebody please help.  This is driving me crazy with frustration and totally breaking my heart.  It took me a VERY long time to save up for this computer and it was my most loved possession.  It was a reward for a lot of hard times and now it's all broken and acting slow.  And it's only 6 months old.
Is there a solution to this very frustrating problem?
I just want it to go back to the way it was before.
And is there a very low cost KNOWN TO WORK WITH THIS MACHINE upgraded graphic card and power supply?  Is there a very specific brand and make?  If so, could you let me know what it is in case I try to upgrade it again someday?
Thank you for your time and for reading this!
Please have a FANTASTIC day today!!

  • Amd graphics card help

    Hi everyone,
I have a friend who recently got an H530, and hoped to upgrade it with a sapphire amd r9 280. First problem came across when there was a 14 pin for a power supply on the motherboard. So he got an adapter and when he plugged in everything the computer would start to crash(no error messages, it would just shut off when he got to the homepage). He has the sufficient power supply,(600w) could it be something wrong with the adapter or is it because its an amd card with an intel processor(althought this should not be the problem)? I am not sure but I think the power supply worked without the graphics card plugged in. I am asking this question for him
    Thanks

    hi La56789.
When you said "Home Page" Im thinking that it is the Desktop screen with all the icons.
If that's the Case Try tunning the system in Safemode. and check. if it will display.
When you said It will just shut off. Does the power lights on the computer turns off as well.
    Let me know your findings
    Cheers!

  • Need to upgrade my graphics card- help!

I have a mid 2009 macbook pro 17 in. with NVIDIA GeForce 9400M 256 MB graphics card.  I am getting an error message when I use photoshop that says my graphics card is not compatible for some graphics.  I assume I can upgrade, but I don't know where to start.  Please help.

The graphics card can not be upgraded in a macbook pro. the GPU is soldered to the logic board and is not an upgradeable part of your system.

  • 8100 elite upgrade Graphics card help?

Hi there I have the machine for 3d envioment building for 3d max etc which works fine, How ever i now need to do some game testing for 3d models and possible using a triplehead togo system to use 3 montiors or if there is a graphics card that supports this.
How ever i have  a geforece gtx 280 which i removed form my hp pavillion and tryied to use it in here how ever there is no extra power plugs? So can you advicse me of a new power supply to support this or a new grpahics option a can use as i have notice there are a few PCI-e slots in the board -- how ever from what i have read they can only support low profile cards?
What is the best card you can recommend for this (even if its 2  io need) which will conpare in proformace to the gtx280?
I would just upgrade the power pack however its not standard ATX power supply!! any advise would be well recived.

  • Will Graphics Card Help Aperture on Mac Pro?

I've been using Aperture for many years on a variety of Mac hardware. I have 5 or 6 image libraries, ranging in size from 50gb to 250gb. I have no referenced images, do not use "faces" or other CPU-intensive features, and often perform tasks which reportedly improve Aperture performance (deleting caches, repairing/rebuilding libraries, defragging hard drives. deleting prefs). While these tricks often result in a snappy experience on relaunch, Aperture returns to its sluggish ways after a few minutes of work.
My workflow is very simple -- I plug in my camera, download photos to the HD, and then edit them, which consists of adjustments such as exposure, white balance, sharpening, rotating, cropping. I don't do much retouching, red eye, or other fancy editing. Occasionally I use the "external" edit feature to retouch in Photoshop. I shot for many years with a Canon Rebel, 14MP I believe, and recently got a Nikon D800. I am finding the performance going through D800 raw files (not even editing, just flipping through them) unacceptable. For example, if I go to hybrid list/preview view, and press the "down" key 10 or 15 times, by the 5th image, there is a very noticeable lag, and often the display beachballs for 10 seconds or more before it gets to the bottom of the list. Basic tasks such as cropping or rotating often lock the display for long periods of time.
For many years, I blamed Aperture's awful performance on my hardware. I worked on a series of Mac laptops. Although I usually had the latest hardware, they were no desktop. Recently, I bought a Mac Pro with a 3.2GHz Quad-Core Xeon processor, 16GB of ram, an OWC SSD (for the system -- the libraries are on a 7200RPM drive), and a ATI Radeon HD 5770 graphics card. I was dismayed to find out that Aperture is STILL unbearably slow. If I can't simply flip through some photos on a top of the line Mac Pro, what is this program good for?
My question now is, would I see a significant performance gain if I were to upgrade yet again to a faster graphics card, such as the Radeon 7950? I've been reading up on these cards, and it seems like native support is coming in 10.8.3. While I hesitate to pour more money into my quest for a useable Aperture system, I wonder if this would finally show some significant performance gains. I've read conflicting reports from other users who've upgraded the graphics card. Is the advantage mainly for 3D or gaming applications or would this help Aperture too?
Thanks in advance for any replies!

In the past Aperture has been very GPU-dependent. The very best G5 tower would bog on Aperture unless the stock GPU card had been upgraded. I expect current Aperture also to benefit from a stronger GPU but I do not have absolute info on that. And your existing 5770 is not a lame card.
I know 16 GB RAM seems like a lot, but with D800 files and an Aperture/Photoshop workflow you may still be paging out to disk. My Aperture/Photoshop workflow paged out at 8 GB RAM with files 1/3 the size of the D800 files.
You should evaluate whether or not you have adequate RAM:
Look at the Page Outs number under System Memory on the Activity Monitor app before starting a typical Aperture/Photoshop work session and write the number down. Recheck the Page Outs count after working for a few hours and write the number down again. If the page outs change (manual calculation of ending page outs number minus starting page outs number) is not zero your workflow is RAM-starved.
Ignore the pie charts and other info in Activity Monitor because they are often misleading regarding RAM usage. For RAM analysis, count page outs.
If your test shows that page outs increase at all during operation you should add RAM. RAM is dirt cheap and use of additional RAM a very desirable characteristic for an Aperture/Photoshop workflow. If it was me I would double to 32 GB RAM and set PS (PS Preferences/Performance/Memory) to use 16 GB of RAM.
Hard drives slow as they fill so make sure none of your hard drives are overfilled. I suggest 70% full as an arbitrary maximum but even less full is preferable for speed. If your Library drive exceeds 60% full I suggest setting a RAID 0 array on two or more identical drives to get extra capacity and speed. Of course pay careful attention to frequent Library backup.
Some apps like browsers are notorious for "leaking" memory so when doing serious images work keep non-essential applications closed. A SSD drive for boot helps because when apps open in just 3 seconds there is no reason to keep extraneous apps open.
    HTH
    -Allen
P.S. I strongly recommend that original images be fully backed up before importing into Aperture or any other images management application.
P.P.S. Makhe sure you have a properly set PS Scratch Disk assigned on a fast underfilled drive, and empty the scratch disk routinely.

  • Mac Pro 3, 1 Upgrading Graphics Card Help!

Hello to all and I first apoligize before hand incase there is a similar post.
I am currently in the mix of getting myself a new graphics card and upgrading the RAM I have on my early 2008 (3, 1) Mac Pro and dont know what I am looking at.
My current specs are as follows:
    Model Name: Mac Pro
    Model Identifier: MacPro3,1
    Processor:  2 x 2.8 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon
    Memory:  4 GB 800 MHz DDR2 FB-DIMM
Graphics:  ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT 256 MB
    Software:  OS X 10.8.2 (12C60)
I am currently having issues with not waking up from sleep and the performace with the graphics card rendering and fps in games are very poor. Tired of having all of my video settings on low.
I play League of Legands, Dota 2, Portals, CounterStrike . . . etc. There are a lot of different options now for cards than ever before but I am looking to stay within a budget. For the graphics card I am not looking to spend over $400 and would love to find something even cheaper than that. I have researched many of the forms within discussions.apple, apple insider and as well have talked to a senior advisior with apple. She recomended the Nvidia Quadro FX 5600.
I specificly want something at or above 1.0 GB VRAM to handle my 2 Displays which are:
    HP 2711:
      Resolution:          1920 x 1080 @ 60 Hz
    DELL 2405FPW:
      Resolution:          1920 x 1200 @ 60 Hz
If anyone can point me in the right direction as to what to buy for a graphics card because I am not that well educated in that side of the computer. I can handle upgrading the RAM by myself but would also like a little push.
    Any help/response would be great!

The "regular" Apple Mini Displayport to Single-Link DVI adapter (is not an ACTIVE adapter) is US$29. for displays up to 1920 wide.
Third party Mini Displayport to Single-Link DVI adapter ACTIVE can be had for about US$35 from Amazon or NewEgg. for displays up to 1920 wide.

The Apple Mini Displayport to DUAL-Link DVI ACTIVE Adapter with additional power from an attached USB cord is US$100. required for for wide displays.

  • Graphic card help for Pr and Ae use

    Hi there great community :)
I'm currently working with only the on-board graphic card, and of course I should upgrade as my GPU is working on 99% on large renders and they are slow...
I've been recommended the GeForce nvidia 2-4GB gtx 760, but neither the 750 or 760 are listed as supported graphic cards in the premiere cc system requirements.
Is there a reason for this or should I ignore that?
Is there a good reason for spending a little extra cash on the 4 GB vs the 2 GB card ?
What exactly will a graphic card do for my performance? (I'm not a computer expert)
My general use is premiere cc and after effects cc
    Hope you'll help. Greatly appreciated!
    Nice weekend to all :)
    - Simon

Premiere accelerates both playback and export with the  GPU. AE Ray Tracer acceleration is far more limited and will only be used for a limited functions.

  • Graphics card HELP for premiere pro CC

So I've spent hours reading numerous forums in regards to what graphics card is best suitable for premiere pro cc that isn't overly priced (I.e. Quadro k4000 and 5000) I'm trying to stick in the 400-500 range for the PC I'm in the process of building. I need to know anyone's recommendations for a GOOD graphics card that isn't so expensive? I know they exist, I'm just not sure which fits best for premiere pro CC as well as the rest of adobe CC. I mean I hear people mentioning AMD vs quadro and GTX 680, etc. I know there's a list of approved cards from adobe, but that isn't what I'm looking for. I want one that will give excellent performance without emptying my wallet costing so much.  Please, any suggestions are greatly appreciated, thanks guys!
    -Andy

Actually, I tend to agree with cc. That i7-4770 cannot be overclocked at all - not even in a limited manner (outside of the normal turbo boosting) - to start with (the maximum multiplier on the Haswell i7 CPUs is permanently locked to its nominal stock setting or its maximum stock turbo setting, depending on how the motherboard BIOS reads the settings). Second, that i7 has only four physical cores (albeit with hyperthreading). Third, no single non-RAID 7200 RPM hard disk has a sustainable maximum transfer speed above 190 MB/s even on the outer tracks (where the transfer speed is typically highest). As a matter of fact, I tested my auxiliary PC that's equipped with an i5-2400 and 16GB of RAM, and tested it with both older-generation GPUs (a GTX 560 non-Ti and a GTX 560 Ti 448-core), and while the GTX 560 Ti 448-core did perform about 50 percent faster than the plain GTX 560 (39 seconds versus 59 seconds - or put it in converse, the GTX 560 performed one-third slower than the GTX 560 Ti 448) in the MPEG-2 DVD test of the PPBM6 suite, the real-world improvement does not come anywhere close to the benchmarked difference (with either GPU, the i5 system took between an hour and an hour and a half to convert 40 minutes of HD material to MPEG-2 DVD using the VBR 2-pass method). This means that with such longer material, the CPU and memory performance comes more into play.
Oh, did I forget to mention that Western Digital and its HGST subsidiary are the only brands that offer a consumer-level (desktop, as opposed to enterprise) 4TB hard drive that spins at 7200 RPM? (Seagate's 4TB hard drive spins at only 5900 RPM while Toshiba does not currently offer a consumer-level 4TB hard drive.) Outside of WD and HGST, you'll have to buy a much more expensive enterprise-level drive to even find a 4TB drive that spins at 7200 RPM.
And unfortunately, at current street prices, the lower-end GT/GTX 6xx series GPUs are just too expensive for their performance. In fact, the GTX 650 Ti Boost and the GTX 660 are both priced too close to that of a GTX 760 for their own good right now (unless you go for a card that's equipped with the less desirable 1GB VRAM configuration based on either of those GPUs).

  • Graphics card help again.

Before i bought an asus GeForce gtx 750ti and posted here for help because I got a black screen with a blinking underscore so I got re directed to buy a MSI GeForce gtx 750 ti so I did but still I get the black screen with a blinking underscore, I've tried both modes on the switch and uninstalled the drivers from my old card before installation and I know it's not my psu because my old graphics card was a 6670 and requires more power than this I think.
Anyone know what I can do?

    Hi,
Try reseating the card and make sure that it is all the way into the slot.
What BIOS level is your PC running?
Are you experiencing any beeping sounds and/or is the power button flashing?
Did you enable fast boot in the BIOS? If yes , then disable it.
Try Clearing the CMOS and see if that makes a difference.
HP has posted a BIOS update version 8.20 for your PC under the Windows 8 software.  It's a one-way street and there is no going back.

I'm a NOOB : ) What is the best graphics card(under $150) that my PC can handle? http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c00957509&tmp_task=prodinfoCategory&lc=en&dlc=en...〈=en -Thanks

aight. i've been having the same problem. i have a friend that has the same game as me, mine lags, his doesn't.
i'm not great with computers but i know a good bit.
i've talked to some techs and the only thing that we can think of is that my friends internet is wired and runs faster than wireless, but that he also has a dedicated graphics card. HOWEVER, with a laptop you can't go to bestbuy and buy a better graphics card because those aren't thin enough, those are for towers. so the only thing you can do is get a better computer.
sorry to be the one to tell you this, but it's pissing me off too.

  • ATI Graphic cards: help!!!!!

Hi there: I'd have a question... maybe a simple question, but very important for me!
I own a PowerMac G5 2.0 Ghz Dual, the first edition. It has an Ati 9600 64MB installed. I'd like to improve the graphic card for an heavy use with Aperture some 3d application and games. My final choice choice would be between Ati Redeon x1900 G5 Mac Edition and Ati Radeon x800xt Mac Edition. What do you think about those cards? What's the best in your opinion? And better PCI Express or AGP 8x?
I thank you for your patience and for your collaboration
Have a good day. Fabrizio Zambelli

ATI sometimes has an offer to trade-up video cards, however, I was thinking it might be time to trade-in or sell your system (after insuring new one works fine of course for 2-4 weeks).
Apple Store Specials is a great place to look. And get a Mac Pro to replace your G5: has PCI Express video, support for 4 SATA II drive bays (no cables) and much better performance.
THAT is what I mean by trading up.
