Graphics Card = More Pixels????

Hi there,
Does the graphics cars affect the pixels in the screen? By this i mean, if i get a higher graphics card, will the picture on the screen be clearer, and less pixellated?
Cheers

A higher-end graphics card means your mac's processor will be free up to do what it does basically, processing the applications running instead of also "minding" what is to display on the screen, this is "lay man" explaining... especially if you have graphics-intensive program running like 3D software or games.
Example if you have a "low-end" or basic graphics card, and if you have multiple apps running, and when you say for example run iTunes and have the Visualizer turn on, you will notice the graphics on the Visualizer will not run as smooth, as when ONLY iTunes is running; But if you have a "higher end" graphics card with more VRam, that may not be the case.
Cheers

  • X3100&NVS140M graphic card, which one can take more quickly in ultiboard Show 3D?

anyone can tell me,X3100&NVS140M graphic card, which one render speed more quickly,in ultiboard show 3D?
Actual,I used nvs140m graphic card more slowly than x3100 graphic card obviously. It's right or not?

I don't think anyone will be able to definitely tell you that one particular graphics card will be better than the other. There are just too many factors. The only way to tell would be to test over and over, and even then, you may not get consistent results.

  • Please Help - Screen corruption while in Aperture - graphics card problem?

Over the past few weeks, I have noticed frequent screen corruption within the confines of the image that I am currently editing. The corruption only occurs when in Aperture. The corruption occurs as multiple thin (one pixel?) horizontal lines of random color and random length that occur in random locations within the image. If I force a re-calculation of the image (such as change white balance) the random lines will disappear, only to reappear somewhere else. The actual image (after export) is never corrupted, only the display. Recently Aperture has started to "hang" in random ways, sometimes freezing the whole machine, sometimes crashing, sometimes beach-balling.
This sounds like a hardware problem to me, but the standard Apple hardware test runs without errors, as does an extended memtest. Setup: Mac Pro, 5GB, SW fully updated to 10.4.11 and Aperture 1.5.6. I tried re-seating the graphics board to no avail.
Are there any programs that I can use to test the Radeon X1900 card?
    Any other suggestions?
    Thanks in advance.

    Thanks David,
I did some more research and it appears that quite a few of us (unlucky) users with an early version of the Radeon X1900 graphics card are now seeing failures that appear to be due to poor heat dissipation by the graphics card. There's a huge thread on the subject here:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1195969
The problem with random display glitches doesn't show up for most people until they upgrade to Leopard, which puts a larger strain on the graphics card than Tiger. I am still running Tiger, but the glitches show up for me when using Aperture, which of course uses the graphics card more aggressively than most other programs. I assume that Aperture increases the heat which causes the glitches.
I tried cleaning the dust out of the Radeon's heat sink, and I added a tool (smcFanControl) that lets me manually override the default fan speed. By keeping the card's temperature lower, the glitches have gone away. If I let the temperature rise, they come back. Looks like I'll be needed a new graphics card.

  • Question about  Graphics Cards for Adobe and more

Hello, for technical people I'll start by listing some relevant computer info:    Asus P9x79Pro Motherboard . Nvidia Quadro 4000 2GB . Windows 7 . Adobe CS6
I have a workstation PC and have been considering ways to improve it. I'm pretty happy with both Memory and Processor, so now I'm looking at the Graphics Card. I got the Quadro specifically because it was listed on Premiere's list of Mercury Accelerated Playback cards. I have no real issues with it, but I'm wondering if I'm getting everything I can out of it. I also use Resolve often and occasionally Maya, but not often. Sometimes these other programs feel sluggish. I'd like a set up that is most optimal for Adobe PPro and AE, but is also good for Resolve. I'm less worries about Maya.
My motherboard can support 4 GPU's, but I've never had more than 1 before. I'm curious how to go about it.  What sort of advantages will I get with a second GPU, how will this help me? Since I have a Quadro, should I get another Quadro? Should I run them SLI or run them independently? I've also been looking at the GTX Series, would those be preferable? If so, how should I set up my system, run monitors off 1 and use the other as a GPU boost? I really don't know enough about multi-GPU set ups, and I can't seem to find the answers I'm looking for, so any and all help is appreciated.
    Thank you

  • Why can I not see Nvidia graphics card when i click "more info" on my 15 inch macbook pro?

I've just purchased a mid 2012 macbook pro
its supposed to have an Nvidia graphics card, but when i click "about this mac" --> "more info" i only see Intel HD 4000 graphics card. Is this ok? Does this mean that somebody opened my macbook and stole the card :- /

Nope - it's likely just the card in use at the time when you do the More Info...
...to check to see if the card is 'there' hold down the option key and select System Information from the Apple menu. Go under Hardware>Graphics & Displays and two cards should be listed.
    Good luck,

and in system report >> hardware >> Graphics/Display >> it shows both grafics card listed.

Some Mac's when the RAM is increased the Intel HD 3000 integrated graphics will bump itself up to the higher video RAM it takes, this seems to be what occured.
It also means the dedicated graphics card will be used less, but only so slightly less.
You obviously still should have both, you can test this by turning off Graphics Switching in Energy Saver, that will use the decicated AMD card all the time.
You can also run Cinebench and compare the scores here

  • There are randomly coloured pixels appearing on my MacBook Pro LED when I attempt to open or preview a media file.  Is this the graphics card?

I recently had to switch out the hard drive on my Early 2011 13" MacBook Pro.  When I got the computer back from the Apple Store I began loading my old content onto the machine.  When previewing and opening files, they would appear with randomly coloured splotches of pixels on them.    This continues to happen when browsing folders on my machine.
The files do not show up with splotches on other computers, and are not in the same places each time I open the file, which leads me to believe they are problems with my machine and not the files themselves.
I hypothesise this is the graphics card, but I don't know enough about the hardware to know for sure.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    See examples below.

To follow-up.  The problem has gotten worse, as it not only displays glitches during file previews, but imprints glitches on exported files.  No good.
There are many issues popping up now related to 15" and 17" MacBook Pros from 2011, and I wonder if this is a related issue.   In either case, I would love a response from someone at Apple about this issue.

  • TS2083 How do you know if you have more than one graphics card installed?

How do you know if you have more than one graphics card installed? My MacBook Pro does not provide a connectivity to TV via HDMI.

You can go to <http://support.apple.com/specs/#macbookpro> find your Mac's technical specs.
Depending on what kind of video output port you have, you should be able to get an adapter to HDMI.  For example a Mini Display Port to HDMI (I have one of these).

  • Graphics card a bit more powerful in 15" than 17" due to lower resolution?

Is the graphics card a bit more powerful in the uMBP 15" than in the 17" due to the lower screen resolution? E.g. for games. I notice that when I turn down the maximum resolution in a game, the playing is smoothier which is logic but still, does that give the graphics card a bit more performance? I mean, I know they are the same in both the 15" and 17", it's just that the lower screen resolution might give a little more power to spare e.g. for framerates.

It doesn't mean it's more powerful... it's identical. If you run the 17" at a lower resolution (as in the same resolution as the 15"), you would get similar performance to the 15". Running at a higher resolution requires more processing power. Likewise, if you plug in an external monitor to a 15" which supports the same resolution as a 17", you would get similar performance on the 15". The difference is purely based on the resolution you choose.

  • More Ram or X1900 Graphics Card?

I ordered my MacPro with the stadard graphics card and added 1Gb of Ram from Crucial. The question I have now is if I should opt for the upgraded graphics card (X1900) or an additional an additional GB of Ram?
My main use for the computer is web site design/development, graphic design and personal use. Main programs are Photoshop, Dreamweaver, Illustrator, Word, and all of the iLife programs.
I don't play many games on the system now but am interested in doing so (hense the graphic card consideration).
So the question is... is the money best spent on the upgraded graphics card or Ram if I were to buy in the next couple of weeks?

I would put better graphic card at the bottom of the list with RAM and disk drives (and backups) coming first. You can also do graphics card later, but you might benefit from another 2-4GB RAM; couple hard drives to work with.
Getting optimized drivers for graphic cards can also take time, up to a year in some cases, so I wouldn't be in a rush, you aren't doing 3D games or environments. If you do the others and still feel like it, definitely. Or wait for the next video upgrade. I expect some "games" like X-Plane will take full advantage of a 512MB card, and 1GB are on the horizon.
Now if you were using Motion or something that is more highly dependent on the X1900, or if CS3 off loads some of the work to GPU. Supposedly HD quality is one of its selling points.

  • Does a high end graphic card really make a difference ? or is the CPU more important ?

NVIDIA has the Quadro CX  (very expensive)
    http://www.nvidia.com/object/builtforadobepros.html
They mainly talk about h264 encoding.
Does it help as far as timeline editing ?
Im shooting in HDV but final project is SD MPEG2 for DVD
Or does a faster CPU work better.  Multiple Cores.
Is it better to get a faster Quad Core Intel Core i7 Processor ?
    Intel® Core i7-940 Processor (2.93GHz) (Quad-Core)
or a slower Processor speed but dual ?
    WS DUAL XEON E5504 2.0GHz, 8MB cache, 800 MHz, 4.8 GT/s QPI (Quad-Core)
    WS DUAL XEON E5520 2.26GHz, 8MB cache, 1066 MHz, 5.86 GT/s QPI (Quad-Core)  [+$385 ]
What role is the graphics card really having.
I have read some places that as long as you have a good card you don't have to waste money on the top end ones.
    Any thought would be helpful.
    Thanks:  Glenn

IMO a Quadro CX is a waste of money, unless your editing life consists of only encoding to H264 and even then it may be a waste of money.
You may be better off with more capable CPU's and a better disk setup.
Have a look at all three topics linked to here:
How to get the best from a PC? Some guides...
Do read them carefully, including the responses, since there is some info on the performance of dual Xeons versus i7 that may help you decide.

  • Graphics card update, More RAM, what to do?

At the risk of replicating Amg Video Productions post below http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=537641&tstart=0 I just wanted to add this. We're in a similar situation - bought a new Power Mac 2.5 Ghz with 2.5 G RAM and GeoForce FX 5200 last spring and Motion is just a dog on it. Endless renders, 3-4 FPS real time play back, everything gummy as he**. My question is -- what does anyone suggest? Do we plow another $800 into a new graphics card when the Intel Core Duos are coming out for the towers? Do we whack in more RAM? Or what's the solve here? We're growing fast and using Motion increasingly for things we used to outsource, which is a huge save for us - not to mention that the clients love it. So it's becoming an indispensible part of our creative arsenal. But if we pimp this machine out to run Motion well that means we've blown almost a grand that could go toward a new Intel-based PowerMac (or whatever they're going to be called).

I'm not gonna presume to tell you which option is best for you, but I will say that the FX5200 is the slowest card that will run Motion by far. Slower by a factor of 3 or 4 over the next higher up ATI 9600. You could get one of those for $65. You could go for an ATI 9800 for somewhere areound $269. Running the same project and comparing gfx cards, (the thread is here) shows:
    nVidia 5200....1.5 fps
    ATI 9600.......4 fps
    ATI 9800.......10 fps
    ATI x800.......17 fps
    nVidia 6800....18 fps
    nVidia 7800....21 fps
So you can see that there is quite a bit of room for improvement over your FX5200 for less than a grand...

  • Can I change the graphic card on Toshiba Satellite S55-A5295 or add more dedicated video RAM?

Hello, I am wondering if it was possible to change my graphics card. Currently its using the basic (Intel HD Graphics 4000/Family). If thats not possible then I'd also like to know if it was possible to dedicate more video RAM since it currently has 64MB out of the total 1696 avaliable graphics memory. And before someone mentions the BIOS option sadly its not shown there. Please let me know if I have any options!

There is no option to change the GPU on this laptop model. As per memory sharing, it is done automatically by the chipset sharing around 10-20% of the physical memory to the graphics memory.
What will you be using the higher ram?
Is it gaming, media editing (video / photo), or 3D editing?
