Graphics card/video ram

I have done a fair job souping up my Pismo, which I love and don't really want to replace. Despite maxing out RAM at 1 GB and installing large hard drive (160 GB)and using Quicktime pro and latest Windows Media player, when I view video from the web, its always jumpy and out of synch. Is there a way to upgrade the graphics card and/or upgrade video RAM such that streamed video plays better? Would things be better with a processor card upgrade to G4? Is there something maybe I can use in the PC slot on the side?

A G4 upgrade would definately make a difference in video playback performance. I went from 400 MHz G3 to 550 MHz G4 with my Pismo, and what was jumpy before (like xvid) runs smoothly now, at only 70% CPU usage. I use VLC which is optimized for Altivec, and that's probably part of the reason for why it runs so well. I'm not sure if QT and WMP would benefit from the G4 in the same way. Youtubes are somewhat jumpy on my pismo.
It has 1 GB of memory and a pretty slow 4200 rpm drive. By the way, does your pismo see the entire 160 gig drive? I'm thinking a computer this age would be limited to 128 GB.
While the G4 upgrade is a major speed-bump, and was a good idea two years ago when I upgraded, it's really not worth it today. Not unless you find one on eBay or something.
And yes, a graphics upgrade would be great, but it just won't happen.

  • Upgrading graphics card and ram on late 2011 macbook pro?

Hi. I have a late 2011 macbook pro, and I wanted to know if i could upgrade my graphics card and ram for better performance while gaming. I play WoW and diablo 3 and often notice lag and can only run on low settings. So my graphics are Intel HD 3000 which is integrated, and i was wondering if i could upgrade to a graphics card like AMD or nvidia. Also, would upgrading from 4 gb of ram to 8gb of ram help my performance? Thanks.

You cannot upgrade the graphics card on your MBP. It is soldered to the logic board.
RAM can be increased to 8 or 16 GB.  The correct specifications are;  204-pin PC-10600 (1333 MHz) DDR3 SO-DIMM.
The best vendors for Mac compatible RAM are OWC and Crucial.
    Ciao.

  • Graphics Card and RAM ???

Hi, i Have a HP mediacenter Pavilion a1606n, i am a bigg gamer but my computer sucks at plaing most new games, i suspect that the Graphics card is out dated, or i dont have enough RAM, but when ever i play a game (ex. Hitman Blood Money) it is very slow and does not display any of the walls or floors (this is with the settings set on low), what can i do to make my computer play games better???

Graphics card and RAM are the two components to upgrade when you're looking to play games. I checked the specs on your computer - you have a PCI Express x16 slot, which means you can use any of the most recent graphics cards in this particular system. You also may want to pick up some DDR2 RAM to upgrade the memory. And depending on which graphics card you upgrade to, you may also need a new power supply as well. Most Best Buy stores carry all of those components, so head to the store (you can bring your computer with you if you'd like Geek Squad to install the parts for you) and ask a Geek Squad Agent for advice on what to do with your computer.

  • Graphics card and ram question

I am currently using a Toshiba Satellite L305D and i am trying to play arma 2 on it. But whenever i try to play the game is very slow and laggy. Is this due to my graphics card or ram? The gameplay is just very laggy. I need some help because i dont know what to upgrade in order to make this laptop a better gaming laptop even though it is not intended to be a gaming laptop. What things do i need for me to make it a gaming laptop? Better graphics card? more ram? better processor? Please help!!!

Hi there! The only thing you can really upgrade is the RAM on the notebook.

  • Graphics card/video

Hello, I am new to the Apple discussions community, but not new to problems with my MacBookPro. I was give my computer last year as a gift, and since about March, the graphics have been messing up. Long story short, I have been to two different Apple stores, both located an hour or more outside my hometown, talked to numerous sales reps. They replaced the display under "Apple Care", but the computer heats up and distorts the graphics, video runs slow, and programs randomly crash. I was told from the authorized sales rep who replaced my display, that it was a display issue, with my graphics card, and that it is not working properly which causes the computer to do all the above things mentioned. Apple has put me through the ringer these past months. I have talked to probably 20 senior advisors about this, who say they'll call back, and never do. Also, I have called customer care who was supposed to authorize a graphics card replace/logic board replace, but mysteriously couldn't be reached when the repair place tried to call him. This is just getting ridiculous. My limited warranty isn't up until August 19, 2011, and then we purchased a 3 yr Apple Care on top of that, which more than covers this computer's hardware. I reported them to BBB and they refused to replace/repair the machine. I rebutted the complaint, on top of sending BBB a signed document stating that Apple lied to me by saying that the computer had been abused and that is why they wouldn't follow the warranty. Apple themselves signed off on the fact that the computer has never been abused. I treat this thing like it's my child. It was never mistreated, and BBB didn't even value the fact that Apple straight up lied to us. BBB closed my case before I could say anymore and Apple "apologized" for not being able to replace/repair the computer, but said they "would still continue to troubleshoot with Apple Care". I thought this was a riot because they haven't done **** for me, besides repair the display which wasn't abused, their machine just screwed up. I have never in my life had such poor customer service, and I'm writing on here in the hopes that one of you will have a suggestion or a solution or ANYTHING. Right now I have a $2,000 component that is basically useless.

no i wasn't being unpleasant in my communications with them. the only unpleasant thing i did was report them to the BBB and i didn't want to do that. if you even knew what i have been through, you would understand exactly why i reported them. i am not blowing anything out of proportion. there was never any physical damage done to my machine EVER. it has always been in my possession and never used by another person EVER. i know exactly what has happened to this machine and it has either been in my hands or in its case EVERY time it has ever gone anywhere or been put anywhere. the "authorized service provider" said they SUSPECTED that the screen was stepped on, (which obviously didn't happen), and it was apple themselves that said NO no damage was found. also, when i took it to the mac store all 3 times.. each time, they wrote on the ticket NO DAMAGE. i have done everything i can short of screaming at them. they say they will help me and then they never do. they're running me in circles and i've about had enough of this dog and pony show. they never OPENLY refuse me, they just say they'll help me and never do. like with the last repair, the repair guy was trying to call him for weeks and leaving messages, and he just never responded-both email and phone messages. apple is full of **** and i'm so sick of dealing with them. i understand people are gonna be skeptical of the treatment i've received for these issues, but i've never been one to "stretch the truth". this is cold hard reality here...
This borders on defying belief. It's like there's some piece of info missing, which I understand you're assuring me there is not. It seems like an open and shut case. "Hi, by your own admission there is no damage to this machine, you cannot fix this, it is under warranty, will you be doing the data migration from this to the new MBP you're giving me or will I have to do that from a backup? Thank you for the new MBP and bye now."
What city/country are you in and exactly which Apple Stores have you visited?

  • 15" MBP i7 with AMD Radeon 6750 Graphic card - video artifacts

    Hello -
After I connect a projector with HDMI, the projector starts having broken up/disrorted images at start up.  I brought my machine to the genius bar once and the tech used a few combo keys and it cleared the video memory and was like new again.
Does anyone have the key combo?
Better yet, is there a permanant fix?
    Thanks in advance

    Hi BenOr,
That would be a PRAM reset, and resetting it, along with other troubleshooting steps, can be found here:

  • Graphics card and RAM suggestions for editing RED footage?

    Hi there,
I'm planning to edit a project shot on RED at 4K in Premiere CS6.
In terms of system requirements I would be interested to hear what the potential is (and what differences I will see between) these two options:
    RAM: 8GB vs 12GB
Graphics: 2GB Nvidia GeForce GT 650M 130W (or eqivalent) vs 3GB Nvidia GTX 670MGDDR5 (or equivalent)
Many thanks if you can help and if you require any additonal information please let me know

The starting limitation is the slots. System boards on laptops are not standardized like they are on desktops. What that means is a system board in a laptop is designed specifically for that shell. If that systemboard only has a limited amount of ram slots then that permanently limits the features.
The laptop you linked only has 2 ram slots. The laptop I linked has 4. So you can upgrade the ram further in the laptop I recommended and can be done post sale.
The other factor is bios memory mapping. Many laptops are limited to 4GB sticks as the maximum supported ram because the bios is not programmed to handle 8GB sticks. This can happen on desktops as well but is far less likely.
The Laptop you linked lists 4GB sticks as the maximum supported ram. The laptop I linked includes support for 8GB sticks. Now at some point the manufacturer can update the bios to include support for higher density ram. So Dell could add support for 8GB sticks on the laptop you linked. However don't assume that. Verify before you purchase.
    Hope that helps.

  • More Ram or X1900 Graphics Card?

I ordered my MacPro with the stadard graphics card and added 1Gb of Ram from Crucial. The question I have now is if I should opt for the upgraded graphics card (X1900) or an additional an additional GB of Ram?
My main use for the computer is web site design/development, graphic design and personal use. Main programs are Photoshop, Dreamweaver, Illustrator, Word, and all of the iLife programs.
I don't play many games on the system now but am interested in doing so (hense the graphic card consideration).
So the question is... is the money best spent on the upgraded graphics card or Ram if I were to buy in the next couple of weeks?

I would put better graphic card at the bottom of the list with RAM and disk drives (and backups) coming first. You can also do graphics card later, but you might benefit from another 2-4GB RAM; couple hard drives to work with.
Getting optimized drivers for graphic cards can also take time, up to a year in some cases, so I wouldn't be in a rush, you aren't doing 3D games or environments. If you do the others and still feel like it, definitely. Or wait for the next video upgrade. I expect some "games" like X-Plane will take full advantage of a 512MB card, and 1GB are on the horizon.
Now if you were using Motion or something that is more highly dependent on the X1900, or if CS3 off loads some of the work to GPU. Supposedly HD quality is one of its selling points.

  • Video test failed in graphic card laptop g50-70

when i run hardware scan in lenovo solution center, i got waring graphic card video test and got result
    Result code: WVC003000-DK7X2I
    Video Card.
so i want to know why test show warning in my graphic card

    hi bhavik455,
    Welcome to the Forums.
Getting an error on the Lenovo Solutions Center (LSC) Hardware Scan might mean that the GPU is failing. This comes with a sign like lots of BSOD that's pointing to the graphics card, artifacts on the screen while playing games / videos, or the machine suddenly won't show a display.
If you're not experiencing any of the above symptoms then it's likely that the graphics card on the unit is functioning properly and the LSC is just showing some alse positive errors.
To verify, try running a stress test on the GPU to check its stability by running OCCT or similar utility.

  • Photoshop keeps crashing since graphics card was changed

I have Photoshop CS6 and am using Windows 7.
Today I got my graphics card and RAM changed so that they were updated. Ever since this, photoshop crashes when I go to re-size something.
It hasn't yet crashed when I try to do something else.
I am assuming that the graphics card or RAM has something to do with this and it would be great if I could get some information on what to do.
Faulting application name: Photoshop.exe, version: 13.0.0.0, time stamp: 0x4f61beba
Faulting module name: atioglxx.dll, version: 6.14.10.12002, time stamp: 0x50d21fb6
    Exception code: 0xc0000005

    First install the Photoshop updates.
Then update your ATI video card driver that's crashing (from AMD/ATI's website!).

  • Graphics card is dead! Help with replacement please!

    Hi,
I've just been given a Dual core G5 powermac (2.0ghz) model. It works fine with the exception of the graphics card. Previous owner took it to an apple store for testing and they said he would need a new card.
I've got an apple display with the ADC plug.
Can someone please advise me on a suitable replacement please? I guess my options are a card with an ADC plug or and adaptor and a standard DVI card?
I find it all a bit confusing! Most of my work is music related so I don't need a high end card. I really just want a cheap solution to get this machine back up and running!
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks
    Bradley

My graphic card failed and developed strange barcode type lines that flickered intermittently - getting worse the longer the computer was on. The flickering changed when the cable to the graphics card was "jiggled" / moved around. It turned out to be a problem with the ATI Radeon 9800 graphic card that came installed with the G5. There was nothing obviously wrong with the card the fan was fully operational.
This is how I fixed it:
    1. Ran a Apple Hardware Diagnostic check from the Startup disk - hold down the Options key, Select Hardware Diagnostic and then select Extended. This confirmed that it was the Graphics board (Video (RAM)) and not the Logic board (contrary to the view of Apple and TechServe - both of whom wanted me to bring the G5 in for their diagnostic ... $150 +)
    2. Purchased the new board (I got it from B&H Photo):
    http://ati.amd.com/products/Radeon9600/Radeon9600propcmac/index.html
    3. Installed the new board - 5 minutes total: remove one screw - carefully remove cooked 9800 board - install new board - replace screw.
    4. Install new 9600 software (which the manufacturers suggest you do first) - it automatically overwrites the necessary 9800 files.
    5. Purchase and connect the Apple ADC-to-DVI converter - used to connect the new board to my Apple Cinema Display 23".
    6. Reboot
I hope this helps anyone else with a similar problem.

  • Graphics card problems in bootcamp

I have the cheapest latest macbook AKA (2.0ghz white with 1gb of ram and only a CD Rw/DVD drive) my problem is that when i'm in bootcamp my Intel gma 950 graphics card supposedly has 224 mb of ram (according to system in control panel and Ea's hardware checker) but i haven't been able to get any games requiring more then 64mb of Ram to work on it, and according to my macbook box it is only a 64mb graphics card, so which one is it? 64 or 224? And if it is restricted to 64mb can i unrestrict it without any major issues?

The other thing to consider is how extensive do you wish to get into gaming, on your computer. If you casually play games like "The Sims" or "Starcraft" on weekends/down time then the shared graphics processor is going to be more than adequate. Likewise, I'm even finding that with World of Warcraft, my Macbook can easily handle "hardcore content" on a nightly basis without flinching.
However, a game like C & C III, Guitar Hero III, Battlefield 2142 and others don't play well with the Macbook. For same gamers, they have to be the biggest, fastest, bestest (yes I know it's wrong) machine and graphics processor out there. They want to see the sweet drip off of their enemy's brow from 100-yards away, and the Macbook's hardware isn't designed for that. That's why Apple has the Macbook Pro, iMac and Mac Pro! Those machines can handle that and then some.
When shopping for computer games, blindly walking into a store and buying one off the shelf is not advised, even if it says "works with OS X 10.4.x." Understand what the minimum system requirements are, OS requirements, processor, RAM, even HD storage requirements. Heck, I even go so far as to visit game developers' websites now and see what exactly the game is verified to run on (in terms of processor, graphics card, and RAM).

  • Can I change the graphic card on Toshiba Satellite S55-A5295 or add more dedicated video RAM?

Hello, I am wondering if it was possible to change my graphics card. Currently its using the basic (Intel HD Graphics 4000/Family). If thats not possible then I'd also like to know if it was possible to dedicate more video RAM since it currently has 64MB out of the total 1696 avaliable graphics memory. And before someone mentions the BIOS option sadly its not shown there. Please let me know if I have any options!

There is no option to change the GPU on this laptop model. As per memory sharing, it is done automatically by the chipset sharing around 10-20% of the physical memory to the graphics memory.
What will you be using the higher ram?
Is it gaming, media editing (video / photo), or 3D editing?
