Graphics cards for the old Elitebook 8730w?

I just bought an old 17" elitebook off of ebay for cheap and I was wondering what my upgrade options are for graphics cards? I know that in the elitebook your gpu is removable so it could be replaced with another card but what cards would be supported? I would like to install something like a gt 520m, gt 540m or a radeon hd card.

Hi,
There is a list from the following specs:

  • Graphics card for the H500s 8GB Ram desktop.

    Hello!
I have never done this before, so excuse me if I seem a bit newb-ish.
I'm looking to get a graphics card for the h500s desktop, which already has Intel HD 4000 integrated graphics, as shown here. I have the Intel Pentium J2900 CPU and a Lenovo motherboard. I opened up the PC today and it has one PCIe slot available for the graphics card. I know that on that datasheet it says that there is an 'up to' when it comes to graphics cards, but I want to know if these cards are compatible and will work without changing any power adapter.

  • Best graphics card for the MAC Pro 4,1

I am using the 4870 card, but, is there a better graphics card for doing photography with Adobe CS5 Extended and Lightroom 3?
    Thank you.

While recently discontinued, you can probably get your hands on an nVidia GTX 285 fairly easily. It's not only faster than your Radeon HD4870, it has double the video memory, and more importantly it's on the shortlist of cards that are support hardware acceleration of the Mercury Playback Engine in Adobe CS5. That's a HUGE feature, if you use Premiere or After Effects, it's probably worth the price of admission right there. I've got one in my machine, works wonders. Aside from a zippy system, lots of basic stuff that used to have to be rendered in order to preview no longer require it.
The nVidia Quadro FX 4800 is also a bigger/faster card, and provides even more powerful support for the Mercury Playback Engine in CS5, but it's also vastly more expensive. As I type this the price is $1799 at Apple, and $1399 most everywhere else (Apple store managers, if you're seeing this you might want to check for a price drop).
That's the current max, but it's possible that new graphics cards are right around the corner. In the spring nVidia introduced their next generation of GPU, there are a range of new GTX 4xx series cards on the mainstream line, and just last week new Quadro cards were launched for the high end. Adobe does not support either of them for CS5's Mercury Playback Engine hardware acceleration at this moment, but Adobe employees have said that it's coming in an update soon.
It's also likely that the ATI Radeon HD 5770 & Radeon HD 5870 will be released for the Mac. My understanding is that the 5770 performance is on par with your HD 4870, and the 5870 will blow it away. Both the new ATI cards also boast two mini displayport plugs as well as a DVI out. Neither card is likely going to get support for hardware acceleration in CS5 anytime soon (not really Adobe's fault, ATI are still in their infancy on the high performance/OpenCL front compared to nVidia).
My advice, if you need something now, chase down a GTX 285 and you won't be disappointed (especially in CS5). Otherwise, you may want to wait it out and jump on the next generation if/when it becomes available.
    Hope that helps!

  • Buying A Graphics Card for the first time.

Hey, I have the HP slimeline s3700f desktop computer. I really want to get a graphics card for it because Im into video games. I realize that I need a low profile card due to the low power supply which the system has, but i cannot find a card which is compaitable with the PC.
There is a link to the SPECS for my computer > http://reviews.cnet.com/desktops/hp-pavilion-slimline-s3700f/4507-3118_7-33485047.html
Im aware that there is another slimline PC with a NVIDIA GeForce 9500GS graphics card, but I cannot seem to get the card for sale on any site. It has the came 160W power supply as mine, here are the specs > http://bizsupport1.austin.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?objectID=c01500243&lang=en&cc=u...
Please help out if you can. Thanks alot.

I signed up just to reply to your post.  There are other people askign the same question.  search google for "low profile video card".
    this thread covers alot.

    Newegg search for "low profile":
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=100007709&IsNodeId=1&srchInDesc=low%20pr...
I would recommend this, but it depends on your price range:

Finally, i would not get a video card that requires any extra power connectors.

  • It is possible to install a graphics card for the hp touchsmart iq504 series?

Hey folks I've had my pc for awhile now. According to the datasheet it saids that a graphics card can be upgraded but the power supply may need to also be upgraded check with the company of the graphics card. So i tried email hp but no answer on the question. Im thinking of trying to get either a ati radion 4270 512 mb card or nvida if its allowed. Mostly from online search through google many folks say its upgradeable but when gaming it acts more like a laptop their for performance is horrible. Is this true? I've tried to install games on my laptop that has a radion hd 4250 graphics card but gaming just doesnt add up the same as a desktop. So if anybody has some opinions or tips that could help me in area would gladly appreciate it.
    Thanks hp fan gmoney38

The graphics in the IQ5xx series can not be upgraded in the way you're thinking, the Touchsmart line does indeed resemble a laptop more than a desktop.
In general the opinion is that it is not worth persuing a graphics update for these products.

  • Best graphics card for the hp pavilion p7-1415

Hi, I recently purchased a hp pavilion p7-1415 and I would like to upgrade the graphics card so I can use an hdmi cable and play games at the best quality possible for this pc. I would like to keep it on the cheaper side if possible. Thanks. -Brett

Hi, The HP p7-1415 has a HP version 8 BIOS and a 300 watt power supply. Without upgrading the power supply, the NVIDIA GTX 750 has been highly rated in some of the PC technical magazines. Just look for a model that doesn't require an auxiliary PCI-E 6 pin power connector.  You should be able to run 1920 by 1080 resolution and still get good frame rates.

  • Compatible graphics cards for the early 2008 Mac Pro 3,1?

I have an early 2008 Mac Pro 3,1 with the 2.66Ghz Quad core processor that is running Lion. I had an ATI Radeon Card in there that didn't last very long (I've read not great reviews about them recently) and now I need a replacement that will be compatible with my system and that will last me longer than my previous card did. The problem is I don't know what my options are. Can anyone reccomend me a viable replacement? I do video/audio production so something high end would be nice.
    Thanks,
    -RH

There are some good ideas, comments and tests just how much difference and in what applications.
The differences between 2.5GT and others are less than you might think.
There is no-compromise performance for some areas of CS6 and CUDA with ML and GTX 570 or above. The new EVGA GTX 660-Ti FTW w/ 3GB $330 looks to be very popular and that is the "mid-range" today, compared to $400-500 where GTX 680 sits or ATI 79xx series.
If you have to use 10.6.8 that is a bigger factor and some cards require 10.7.4 or later.
The 5x70 were average cards when they came out. There is no reason to have a system where early boot is totally dependent upon firmware and couldn't do basic video. Anyway some people are willing to swap out the 5770 and keep it just for debugging.
As to the original question: can't tell if you were interested in asking if a MacBook Pro Retina or something else... kind of hard to argue. A 12-core 3.33GHz with 48GB and 5 internal hard drives - it is hard not to do whateer you throw at it esp. if cost is not the primary concern but work is and it is suppose to pay for itself.

  • 2 differents graphic cards at the same time for Mercury engine

    Hi !
I'm working on 4K footage (R3D) with CS6 Premiere and Blackmagic Resolve, on a 6-cores i7-3930K (without integrated graphic card inside the CPU).
I decided to buy 2 graphic card, because Resolve "need" one simple graphic card for the software interface (GT610 1Gb with 48 CUDA cores),
and one strongest for the calculation (GTX680 4Gb with 1536 CUDA cores).
So I'd like to know if Premiere is like Resolve and if it will use the dumb card for the software, and the second for the CUDA engine inside MPE ?
Or will it use the 2 cards at the same time, like 48 + 1536 = 1584 CUDA cores ?
Or will it use only one of those 2 card ? And in this case, how can I chose the right one ?
(modify a configuration file, or put the strongest card in the first PCI slot in exemple ?)
Thanks for your help.  ; )

    Thank you John !
Ok, I read those thread... so, to summarize (and to be sure I understood everything) :
    1) Premiere don't work with 2 GPU at the same time (no SLI / no 2x graphic card "alone").
    2) I need to install the strongest graphic card (used in MPE) in slot 1, and the second graphic card (connected to my DVI displays) in slot 2.
    3) I have to be really careful with drivers (but it's the same manufacturer, EVGA, and the same line, GT and GTX, so I don't think there will be problems)
and if I have problems, just need to desactivate the CUDA processing (in the drivers panel) of the card just used for the displays.
Can you just confirm me I'm right ?
(And, about Resolve, I saw the same slot configuration on the manual, so I hope everything will work :  )
MAC PRO SLOT CONFIGURATION Optimum two GPU configuration
    Slot                    Board                                            Function
4                        HBA or RAID card                          Storage interface
    3                        Capture card                                  Video & audio I/O
2                        Single width GPU                          GPU for GUI
1                        Single or double width GPU          GPU for image processing

  • Good graphics cards for Gigabit Ethernet PowerMac?

Yesterday I ordered a 400 MHz (single processor, of course) Gigabit Ethernet PowerMac running OS 9.2.2 (most likely being upgraded to 10.3 in the future, and then 10.4 if I can get a good enough processor upgrade). I plan on giving it a pretty good deal of upgrades, the graphics card among them. I've researched it, but I'm not clear on how to know which graphics cards would be compatible and which ones wouldn't. Whether you can clear that up for me or simply recommend some good cards, I'd appreciate the help.
I want to spend $150 at the most on a good card, but I'm flexible. Thank you!

    Hi-
The best available graphics card for the Gigabit Ethernet is a Radeon 9800 Pro.
No need to spend extra for the 256MB model, as the 128MB model usually benchmarks faster.
Look around eBay, and you should find one for $100-$120.
Make sure that the card you buy is stated as Mac compatible.

  • NEED HDCP-COMPLIANT ADD-ON GRAPHICS CARD FOR P6710F

I need referral to a compatible hdcp-compliant add-in graphics card for the p6710f desktop machine. This machine has a 250-watt power supply.

The first thing that you will need is a new power supply unit (PSU).  The newer mid-level dedicated video cards require at least 400W to operate properly.  I normally recommend at least 500W, but 600W is even better for possible future upgrades.  I like Corsair products.
Here is a video card that should do what you need.  The majority of video cards today are HDCP compatible.  I suggest that you call EVGA Tech Support to see if there is a VBIOS update for the card to assure that it will work with a Legacy BIOS before you buy it.  It requires at least a 400W PSU.

  • What's the best graphic card for FCP X and a Mac Pro (early) 2008?

I have a Radeon HD 3870 in my Mac Pro, it seems that I cannot use this configuration with Final Cut Pro X. Then what's the best graphic card for FCP X usable in a Mac Pro (early) 2008?
    Thx,
    Phil

You can get a 5770 radeon ATI MAC card
Avoid the 5770 cards on ebay and Amazon - many are black market or manipulated cards.
Buy it from Apple online store or B&H photo or Macconection
And in my case, I was able to sell my old 2600 XT card on ebay for $65 and put that money toward a 5770 card (Which was about $230 minus the $65)
I installed the 5770 in my early Mac Pro 2 x 2.8 and it works great

  • HT4664 What is the best graphics card for FCPX?

In the nonstop anti-FCPX propaganda is an article of interest — posted 7/9/12 — comparing the benchmarks of FCPX and PP6.
    http://www.streamingmedia.com/Producer/Articles/ReadArticle.aspx?ArticleID=83582 &PageNum=1
The system used was a 2 x 2.93 GHz Quad-Core Mac Pro from early 2009 running MacOS X version 10.7.4 with 12 GB of RAM and an NVIDIA Quadro FX 4800 graphics card with 1.5 GB of onboard RAM.
In most cases PP6 outperformed FCPX with this configuration. However, in the comments Ben Balser pointed out that FCP X's A/VFoundation engine wasn't ideal on the NVIDA card:
"Quadro is actually not the best card for FCP X's A/VFoundation engine, but great for CS6's Mercury engine, so the test is amazingly flawed right there. Try both on a 5780 card and watch things drastically change. I've done that test myself. Exporting to Compressor uses a MUCH more sophisticated encoding engine meant for higher level, professional transcoding, not simple outputs, which are faster using Export Media…"
Apple lists this card on its support page: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4664
    So,
What is the best graphics card for FCPX?

    Ben,
Thanks for chiming in on that article. It would be good to have a benchmark comparison with the two systems each with a preferred card.
I'm hoping to see some other comparisons on this thread. Also, some links to other articles about best practices and configurations.
