Graphics cause browser to crash
Has anyone experienced that graphics created with CS3 and
exported as Flash 8 document, and then saved as a MX 2004 document
and then published as a Flash Player 6 swf-file (done to remove the
new grahpic features supported (such as "
Enhanced
stroke") in Flash Player 8 and newer) causes the web-browser
to crash?
This is what I did with graphics drawn for use in Flash
Player version 8 and newer, so that I would be able to use the
graphics for a banner that needed to support Flash Player 6 and 7.
To my amazement this caused Flash Player 6 and 7 to crash,
and thus also the web-browser. Microsoft has in the Windows Error
Reporting system logged the crash-problem as a error in Adobe Flash
Player that has no known solution.
The banner in it self is very low key, and does only contain
the getURL code on a button.
The banner works normally when the graphics are removed.
My thesis is that not all settings for the graphics are
removed eventhough the file is saved as MX2004.

SwfLoader cause Browser to crash when we change loaded swf multiple times..
Hi Everyone,
I'm developing a Flex application now, and inside my application I am using SWFLoader which will be used to load other .swf file.
The SWFLoader is working, but after I change the .swf file so many times(around 20 times), the application always cause the browser to crash and shutdown automatically.
I suspect this is because of the SWFLoader. If we change the loaded swf inside SWFLoader, it won't remove the old one from memory automatically.
This is my simple code to change the loaded swf inside SWFLoader :
public var applicationLoader : SWFLoader;
public function loadApplication(appName : String) : void {
if(loadedApplSysManager != null) {
var currentApplication : AppInterface = loadedApplSysManager.application as AppInterface;
if(currentApplication != null) {
currentApplication.applicationStateComplete(); // do something inside small app before unload
// try to set everything to null, so GarbageCollection is called ..
applicationLoader.source = null;
applicationLoader.load(null);
var applicationUrl : String = applicationDict[appName];
var urlApp : String = path + applicationUrl + "?noCache=" + version;
applicationLoader.source = urlApp;
btw, I am also using Cairngorm command in every small application and some RSL..
Has anyone ever experience the same thing and have any suggestion?
How can we handle the SWFLoader properly, the loading and unloading process?
Any suggestions will be appreciate..
Thanks,

Reader XI causes browser (IE9) to crash
I have downloaded Adobe Reader XI, but when I click on a link to a .pdf file on a webpage my browser (IE9) crashes. Diagnostics says that Adobe Reader XI is incompatible. Must have some settings wrong somewhere.
You mention 10.2+. Flash is now up to 11.2. Have you tried that version?
Have you noticed problems with any other plugins (e.g., Windows Media Player, PDF reader, etc.)?
Could you check on the plugin process isolation feature in the about:config preferences editor:
- Type or paste '''about:config''' in the urlbar and press Enter; click the button promising to be careful.
- In the filter box, type or paste '''dom.ipc''' and pause while Firefox filters the list.
By default, dom.ipc.plugins.enabled should be set to true (and not bolded) to run the Flash player in the plugin-container.exe process rather than the firefox.exe process.
If yours is customized to false, try double-clicking to reset it to true and test again. (You might need to restart Firefox in order for this to take effect; I'm not sure.) -
Can anybody help? My Safari browser keeps crashing on iMac 10.7.5. The whole window just turns grey. It started happening around the time of the new bookmarks menu upgrade recently which changed the bookmarks to be only on the side and makes it so you can see all your bookmarks while browsing. I know I have a lot of bookmarks, so I tried hiding them, but it still happens. I ALREADY TRIED CLEARING MY HISTORY, AND THAT DID NOT HELP, AND I HAVE NO EXTENSIONS FOR THIS BROWSER.
Does the fact that I am in Brasil have anything to do with it?
Thank you to anyone who can help. In case no one can come up with an answer, is there an easy way to transfer my bookmarks from safari to either firefox or chrome?
Much appreciated.1. This is a comment on what you should and should not do to protect yourself from malicious software ("malware") that circulates on the Internet. It does not apply to software, such as keystroke loggers, that may be installed deliberately by an intruder who has hands-on access to the victim's computer. That threat is in a different category, and there's no easy way to defend against it. If you have reason to suspect that you're the target of such an attack, you need expert help.
If you find this comment too long or too technical, read only sections 5, 6, and 10.
OS X now implements three layers of built-in protection specifically against malware, not counting runtime protections such as execute disable, sandboxing, system library randomization, and address space layout randomization that may also guard against other kinds of exploits.
2. All versions of OS X since 10.6.7 have been able to detect known Mac malware in downloaded files, and to block insecure web plugins. This feature is transparent to the user, but internally Apple calls it "XProtect." The malware recognition database is automatically checked for updates once a day; however, you shouldn't rely on it, because the attackers are always at least a day ahead of the defenders.
The following caveats apply to XProtect:
It can be bypassed by some third-party networking software, such as BitTorrent clients and Java applets.
It only applies to software downloaded from the network. Software installed from a CD or other media is not checked.
As new versions of OS X are released, it's not clear whether Apple will indefinitely continue to maintain the XProtect database of older versions such as 10.6. The security of obsolete system versions may eventually be degraded. Security updates to the code of obsolete systems will stop being released at some point, and that may leave them open to other kinds of attack besides malware.
3. Starting with OS X 10.7.5, there has been a second layer of built-in malware protection, designated "Gatekeeper" by Apple. By default, applications and Installer packages downloaded from the network will only run if they're digitally signed by a developer with a certificate issued by Apple. Software certified in this way hasn't necessarily been tested by Apple, but you can be reasonably sure that it hasn't been modified by anyone other than the developer. His identity is known to Apple, so he could be held legally responsible if he distributed malware. That may not mean much if the developer lives in a country with a weak legal system (see below.)
Gatekeeper doesn't depend on a database of known malware. It has, however, the same limitations as XProtect, and in addition the following:
It can easily be disabled or overridden by the user.
A malware attacker could get control of a code-signing certificate under false pretenses, or could simply ignore the consequences of distributing codesigned malware.
An App Store developer could find a way to bypass Apple's oversight, or the oversight could fail due to human error.
For the reasons given above, App Store products, and other applications recognized by Gatekeeper as signed, are safer than others, but they can't be considered absolutely safe. "Sandboxed" applications may prompt for access to private data, such as your contacts, or for access to the network. Think before granting that access. OS X security is based on user input. Never click through any request for authorization without thinking.
4. Starting with OS X 10.8.3, a third layer of protection has been added: a "Malware Removal Tool" (MRT). MRT runs automatically in the background when you update the OS. It checks for, and removes, malware that may have evaded the other protections via a Java exploit (see below.) MRT also runs when you install or update the Apple-supplied Java runtime (but not the Oracle runtime.) Like XProtect, MRT is effective against known threats, but not against unknown ones. It notifies you if it finds malware, but otherwise there's no user interface to MRT.
5. The built-in security features of OS X reduce the risk of malware attack, but they're not absolute protection. The first and best line of defense is always going to be your own intelligence. With the possible exception of Java exploits, all known malware circulating on the Internet that affects a fully-updated installation of OS X 10.6 or later takes the form of so-called "Trojan horses," which can only have an effect if the victim is duped into running them. The threat therefore amounts to a battle of wits between you and the malware attacker. If you're smarter than he thinks you are, you'll win.
That means, in practice, that you always stay within a safe harbor of computing practices. How do you know what is safe?
Any website that prompts you to install a “codec,” “plug-in,” "player," "extractor," or “certificate” that comes from that same site, or an unknown one, is unsafe.
A web operator who tells you that you have a “virus,” or that anything else is wrong with your computer, or that you have won a prize in a contest you never entered, is trying to commit a crime with you as the victim. (Some reputable websites did legitimately warn visitors who were infected with the "DNSChanger" malware. That exception to this rule no longer applies.)
Pirated copies or "cracks" of commercial software, no matter where they come from, are unsafe.
Software of any kind downloaded from a BitTorrent or from a Usenet binary newsgroup is unsafe.
Software that purports to help you do something that's illegal or that infringes copyright, such as saving streamed audio or video for reuse without permission, is unsafe. All YouTube "downloaders" are outside the safe harbor, though not all are necessarily harmful.
Software with a corporate brand, such as Adobe Flash Player, must be downloaded directly from the developer’s website. If it comes from any other source, it's unsafe. For instance, if a web page warns you that Flash is out of date, do not follow an offered link to an update. Go to the Adobe website to download it, if you need it at all.
Even signed applications, no matter what the source, should not be trusted if they do something unexpected, such as asking for permission to access your contacts, your location, or the Internet for no obvious reason.
"FREE WI-FI !!!" networks in public places are unsafe unless you can verify that the network is not a trap (which you probably can't.) Even then, do not download any software or transmit any private information while connected to such a network, regardless of where it seems to come from or go to.
6. Java on the Web (not to be confused with JavaScript, to which it's not related, despite the similarity of the names) is a weak point in the security of any system. Java is, among other things, a platform for running complex applications in a web page, on the client. That was always a bad idea, and Java's developers have proven themselves incapable of implementing it without also creating a portal for malware to enter. Past Java exploits are the closest thing there has ever been to a Windows-style virus affecting OS X. Merely loading a page with malicious Java content could be harmful.
Fortunately, client-side Java on the Web is obsolete and mostly extinct. Only a few outmoded sites still use it. Try to hasten the process of extinction by avoiding those sites, if you have a choice. Forget about playing games or other non-essential uses of Java.
Java is not included in OS X 10.7 and later. Discrete Java installers are distributed by Apple and by Oracle (the developer of Java.) Don't use either one unless you need it. Most people don't. If Java is installed, disable it — not JavaScript — in your browsers.
Regardless of version, experience has shown that Java on the Web can't be trusted. If you must use a Java applet for a task on a specific site, enable Java only for that site in Safari. Never enable Java for a public website that carries third-party advertising. Use it only on well-known, login-protected, secure websites without ads. In Safari 6 or later, you'll see a lock icon in the address bar with the abbreviation "https" when visiting a secure site.
Follow the above guidelines, and you’ll be as safe from malware as you can practically be. The rest of this comment concerns what you should not do to protect yourself from malware.
7. Never install any commercial "anti-virus" or "Internet security" products for the Mac, as they all do more harm than good, if they do any good at all. Any database of known threats is always going to be out of date. Most of the danger is from unknown threats. If you need to be able to detect Windows malware in your files, use one of the free anti-virus products in the Mac App Store — nothing else.
Why shouldn't you use commercial "anti-virus" products?
Their design is predicated on the nonexistent threat that malware may be injected at any time, anywhere in the file system. Malware is downloaded from the network; it doesn't materialize from nowhere.
In order to meet that nonexistent threat, the software modifies or duplicates low-level functions of the operating system, which is a waste of resources and a common cause of instability, bugs, and poor performance.
To recognize malware, the software depends on a database of known threats, which is always at least a day out of date. Most of the real-world danger of malware attack comes from highly targeted "zero-day" exploits that are not yet recognized.
By modifying the operating system, the software itself may create weaknesses that could be exploited by malware attackers.
8. An anti-malware product from the App Store, such as "ClamXav," doesn't have these drawbacks. That doesn't mean it's entirely safe. It may report email messages that have "phishing" links in the body, or Windows malware in attachments, as infected files, and offer to delete or move them. Doing so will corrupt the Mail database. The messages should be deleted from within the Mail application.
An anti-virus app is not needed, and should not be relied upon, for protection against OS X malware. It's useful only for detecting Windows malware. Windows malware can't harm you directly (unless, of course, you use Windows.) Just don't pass it on to anyone else.
A Windows malware attachment in email is usually easy to recognize. The file name will often be targeted at people who aren't very bright; for example:
♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥!!!!!!!H0TBABEZ4U!!!!!!!.AVI♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.exe
Anti-virus software may be able to tell you which particular virus or trojan it is, but do you care? In practice, there's seldom a reason to use the software unless a network administrator requires you to do it.
The ClamXav developer won't try to "upsell" you to a paid version of the product. Other developers may do that. Don't be upsold. For one thing, you should not pay to protect Windows users from the consequences of their choice of computing platform. For another, a paid upgrade from a free app will probably have the disadvantages mentioned in section 7.
9. It seems to be a common belief that the built-in Application Firewall acts as a barrier to infection, or prevents malware from functioning. It does neither. It blocks inbound connections to certain network services you're running, such as file sharing. It's disabled by default and you should leave it that way if you're behind a router on a private home or office network. Activate it only when you're on an untrusted network, for instance a public Wi-Fi hotspot, where you don't want to provide services. Disable any services you don't use in the Sharing preference pane. All are disabled by default.
10. As a Mac user you don't have to live in fear that your computer is going to be infected every time you install an application, read email, or visit a web page. But neither should you have the false idea that you will always be safe, no matter what you do. The greatest harm done by security software is precisely its selling point: it makes people feel safe. They may then feel safe enough to take risks from which the software doesn't protect them. Nothing can lessen the need for safe computing practices. -
Noise Ninja Causing CS6 to Crash
I have read a previous post regarding this issue, but it did not apply to my problem, so here goes.
Attempting to run the Noise Ninja plug-in causes Photoshop to crash.
I have tried to run Noise Ninja on several 16-bit CR2 as Smart Object files (opened from ACR) and a 16-bit TIFF as Smart Object file (opened from Photoshop) and each time after the 'Profiling Image' step completes and the Noise Ninja dialog box opens, Photoshop crashes. I have tried using both the 32-bit and 64-bit versions of the plug-in (in there respective versions of Photoshop) and the same thing happens.
The Plug-ins have been installed properly using the manufacturer's installer.
I have tried rebooting my computer.
I have tried uninstalling/reinstalling Noise Ninja.
I have tried uninstalling/reinstalling CS6.
I haven't encountered any other issues.
Noise Ninja still works fine in CS5.

Noise Ninja NO VERSION
Plug-ins that failed to load: NONE
Flash:
Mini Bridge
Kuler
Installed TWAIN devices: NONEThe root cause of this issue has been traced to an apparent bug in the public beta version of CS6. Its been reported to Adobe and they are looking at it. There were no issues with CS6 m.122 and this problem started with the public beta release (m.415). Noise Ninja should not be crashing Photoshop because of this problem however. It should merely report an error processing the image. PictureCode will release an update very soon. The update will fix the crash of CS6 and I expect it to have a workaround for the CS6 problem as well.

Process for creating a test file is as follows
Via youtube and your preferred browser, search for any video file (eg rubik's cube), select a video and start to watch it. Choose Share, Embed and copy the link information (eg <iframe width="560" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/MaltgJGz-dU"
frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>)
Close browser and create a new powerpoint 2013 presentation.
Insert, Video, Online Video
In the "From a Video Embed Code" box, paste the link information then click the arrow to apply
Save the file and then Right Click on the file and Preview.
In advance of the creation/running, I've applied the following KBs to the machine(s)
kb2817636 & kb2837627
As i said at the start, members of the Power Uses or Administrators group don't have this issue - but as 99% of our users are "users" and not really an option to make them all members of PU group.
Same also happens if the computer is removed from the domain. Admin & power users work, standard users crash IE.
Uninstall and reinstall of Office 2013 and IE11 has no apparent difference.
Assistance in this is appreciated.
Thanks
Jonhi Jon, do you have all available updates installed for your PowerPoint? Install the two KB in the links below, then test again:

Safari Crash - Problem with doodle (planer) app - doodle web links cause safari to crash with a very strange message "Error - Please make sure Safari is not used in Private Modus" (translated from german) No Privat Modus buttom in ios 7 safari settings! Works fine with an older Safari Version. Web link, call doodle app. You could see the website in the backround working but safari crashes after clicking on the error window. Any suggestions?
Turn off Private Browsing.
Tap "Private" on Safari Screen to disable Private Browsing. When top of screen is white, Private Browsing is off. -
It all works fine on my own MacBook Pro, but my friend's identical (except he still has the original HDD) Mac tries to divide some (but not all) PDFs by zero, causing Safari to crash. The same PDFs open OK in Chrome, but neither browser is able to download the PDF plugin from get.adobe.com, the spinner just spins until I get bored. There is no option for 10.6.8. This is one that crashes: http://www.abcol.ac.uk/documents/publications/Parttime/PTGuide1112.pdf

If you don't have an account setup to test with > Mac OS X 10.6 Help: Creating a new user
Only takes a minute.
If it crashes there, then log back into your admin account, launch Disk Utility.
Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left then select the First Aid tab.
Click: Verify Disk (not Verify Disk Permissions).
If the startup disk needs repairing, follow the instructions for Using Disk Utility to verify or repair disks. -
Google Reader comments cause Firefox to crash.
Clicking the link to add a comment to a Google Reader entry causes Firefox to crash unexpectedly. I've only had this problem since the 3.6.12 update. So far as I can tell, I don't have any problematic add-ons, and my browser is up to date.
This can be problem with one of the fonts that is used on that page and that is corrupted.
You can use the System File Checker to check if font files are missing or corrupted.

Crxf_pdf.dll appears to cause IIS to crash
When exporting crystal reports to pdf from a web based application using Crystal 2008, the crxf_pdf.dll causes IIS to crash. This happens about once every five times with a particular large report. But it has happened with small reports on occassion as well. We have seen this on several windows 2008 server boxes (IIS7)hosting our website which allows this type of export . Below is the error...
Inw3wp__PID__5036__Date__01_27_2010__Time_12_18_13PM__735__Second_Chance_Exception_C0000005.dmp the assembly instruction at crxf_pdf+1a483 in C:\Program Files\Business Objects\BusinessObjects Enterprise 12.0\win32_x86\crxf_pdf.dll from Business Objects has caused an access violation exception (0xC0000005) when trying to read from memory location 0x00000000 on thread 99
Please follow up with the vendor Business Objects for C:\Program Files\Business Objects\BusinessObjects Enterprise 12.0\win32_x86\crxf_pdf.dll
Any thoughts, ideas or solutions appreciated!
ThanksThis looks like a non issue. Here is what I did to reproduce the issue: 1)I setup a separate website on my server that contained one page that simply exported a pdf report with a press of a button. I brought up two browsers, logged in anonymously to that site. I started the the exports at roughly the same time. The report I created listed several fields out of the db table and would run for about one minute. For the setup described above the reports both finished processing at just about the same time. I tried the same using windows authentication and had the same results. 2) I moved the single web page to my main website, then opened two browsers to the site logged in as my windows user. While my report was exporting in one browser, I could not get to the database with the other browser. Once the report finished, the second browser came up with data immediately.3) I changed the test web page by removing the report export code and adding code to bring back the same records into a dataset. I was able to duplicate the problem this way as well. This took Crystal out of the picture. 4) I created a new windows user on my server and set it up in the development database. I opened one browser with my login and a second browser with the new login. While loading the dataset with the first browser, I did not have any problem accessing the database table with the browser connected as the new user. 5) Finally, I decided to try using the second browser from a remote location. This time I logged both browsers in as my user, but one browser was on a different client. While loading the dataset with one browser the other browser did not have a problem accessing the Account Detail. 6) It appears that when working on a single box with mulitiple browsers logged in as the same user, IIS(?) limits the amount of access as if there was only one instance. So far, I have found no documentation for this, but will include it when I do.
As it stands this does not appear to be a critical issue since it only limits a single user on a single box and does not limit multiple users logged in with Anonymous (for example) from many different boxes. -
Flash plugin causes browsers to crash
I'm hoping that someone will be able to able to help me - I'm at the end of my tether at the moment!
Today, for no apparent reason, any web page that includes Flash causes my browser to crash. This happens for Firefox and Safari.
Things I have tried that haven't worked include:
- Reinstalling Flash version 10
- Installing Flash version 9
- A clean install of Firefox 3.5.5 including deleting all user data
- Using Firefox in safe mode (with all options ticked)
- Reinstalling Shockwave
- Resolving some conflicts in Font Book
The entry for Flash in the about:plugins page is:
Shockwave Flash
File name: Flash Player.plugin
Shockwave Flash 10.0 r32
MIME Type Description Suffixes Enabled
application/x-shockwave-flash Shockwave Flash swf Yes
application/futuresplash FutureSplash Player spl Yes
I would be very grateful for any help anyone can provide. My crash report follows.
Many thanks

Live! Cam Voice causing XP to crash
I have been using the Live! Cam Voice with no problems for about two months. However, now all of a sudden it is causing XP to crash and reboot, sometimes after an hour or so, and sometimes all it takes is having WebCam Center opened without uploading. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling, and downloading the latest version of the driver and installing just that, while uploading from non-Creative software - XP still crashes, so I assume it is the driver that is the problem.
I have also the driver and software for the NX Ultra (can't remember the exact name) installed, but this hasn't been interfering, as I said everything worked smoothly until a few days ago. Incidentally, the crashing started after I installed MS desktop search which made the PC very slow; it isn't currently installed, but the crash/reboot problem persists.
Any idea what is wrong, and what I can do? Ta.Did you ever solve this problem? I have a similar problem on my desk top running Vista Home. I couldn't get the Vista driver (download from this wesite) to load so resorted to trying the XP dri've. This seemed to work until Vista put the machine into "Sleep" mode. After coming out of Sleep mode I eith have to restart the computer or disconnect and reconnect the webcam.

Had to start Firefox in safe mode cause it kept crashing after i deleted the file. Now Fire fox Crashes every time I open it and I have to put it in safe mode just to use it, also it's not syncing with my iPad.
If you use Norton software, try disabling your Norton extensions. As of last week, there were severe compatibility issues with Firefox 24.

seems as if we are all having issues with the new update. Is there any chance that Apple will issue a fix for this problem without us having to spend time uninstalling and reinstalling apple and itunes software. if one does not come to this support
