Graphics g question.

Is it possible to get Graphics g to draw an Image on a JLayeredPane?
g.drawImage( background, 0, 20, screenW, screenH, layeredPane );
or should I jump out the window?
Jim

A little humor on a thursday.
Actualy there are no components at that layer(0), I got it to paint the image somewhat. Needs some fine tuning. One thing that is strange, I have an innerclass buttonPanel that extends JPanel, it's set to opaque(false) so only the buttons show, but when the layeredPane is displayed the buttonPanel is no longer transparent. The buttonPanel is added before the layeredPane is painted.
windows are boarded up now, I feel safer.

  • Speaker problem with t420i and adding a new graphics card question

    I bought a t420i about a month ago and noticed that the speakers could not properly handle muliple sounds at once.  What happens is that, say in a music video, the music plays loud and clear, but once the lyrics start the background music fades a bit to about 85% of it's original volume.  I had returned the laptop because of this problem but the replacement I got has the SAME exact problem.
    In case im not clear, try this example.  You know the beeping noise you get when you press an incompatible set of keys?  ( like g, h, and b).  When I have this noise going simultaneously with a song, the song's sound fades a bit.
    This does not happen with headphones, therefore i believe the problem is with the way the speakers are programmed.
    Also, if I bought a t420 with just integrated graphics, could I still add a new graphics card?  Or can you only add a new graphics card to a thinkpad that initially comes with discrete graphics?

    I think the main purpose of the nvs4200m is the ability to use three displays (internal + 2 external). Additionally, nVidia has better driver support for games so even though it is around the same speed, the drivers are better.
    The shared ram is still used, unless you disable the HD3000 in the BIOS and run with only the nvs4200m at all times.

  • K430 Graphic Card question -

    Hello Community,
    I purchased the new Ideacentre K430 i7 3770. My unit has a HD Radeon 7750 Graphic card. My probloem and question is:
    the graphic card has only a HDMI and a VGA ports. I desperately need Dual Link DVI. Of couse I thought that it would have DVI because I believed that all new Graphic cards had DVI or Displayport. I was shocked when I got it home and ther was only HDMI and an old VGA port.
    I have the RZ30W high end "30 monitor  from HP and it only has Dual link DVI and Displayport. Any tips, I can't seem to find an adaptor from HDMI to Dual Link DVI? I have tried 2 and both were single link and did not work.
    Can I have Lenovo trade out the Graphic card for the same one but with the ports I need???
    Oddly, I am unable to find the HD Radeon 7750 with my port configuration--- they always seem top come with the ports I need. That is why I bought it !!!!!
    Help !!!
    Thanks for any response in advance.

    Hey There, what it seems like to me, is you need to download your video drivers from the website. Just go to the Support & Drivers page, put in your product, and download/install the video driver. And That should take care of your issue.

  • Best way (folio/bounding) to display a printed portfolio? (Graphic Design question)

    Hi all,
    Apologies if this isnt posted in the correct forum (but I wasnt able to find any mainstream graphic design forums, I know there is ultrashock but that's more flash based, if anyone could point me to some would be great.)
    Any how my question is what is the best portfolio type (paper/binded folder/display sheets) to display printed graphic design work in to potential clients or employers etc?
    I had been using protective sheets, but then a client of mine showed me what someone else had done for them and it was displayed in a huge thick A3 bound portfolio (you couldnt see or tell how each peice of paper was bound to the edge). I'm thinking that's what I really need and really professional type looking folio presented like that, but I don't know of what you would call that type of folio/bounding etc.
    Any help would be great

    I prefer to do wire-o because you can change the pages out as your portfolio changes. I also like to have vellum slip sheets in-between because it looks more professional as well has assure that the prints do not stick together. I prefer to go with printed plastic transparent covers with an emboss as well as foil stampings with double hit blacks consisted of gloss UV coatings in patterns of textiles, but that gets costly.
    Other then that, I think you will have more success creating an on line portfolio. Most people don't have the time to look at hard copies, but it's good to have a back up hard copy for face to face situations.

  • Graphic Card Question - Do I Have the Wrong One?

    I just got my new Pavilion dv7 less then 2 weeks ago. It was just today though that as I was checking around to see how well my laptop could play some games, I find that what I think is the wrong graphic card in my laptop. On the box it says I should have an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5470, but when I type dxdiag into Run, it says I have an Intel Graphics Media Accelerator. I'm new to all this, so does my laptop have the wrong graphic card?
    Because according to all this and the System Requirements Lab website, my new laptop is unable to play some games my old laptop could, which had an ATI HD 3200. I'm assuming the HD 5470 should run better, yet it's the one thing keeping me from running many games. Any help at all would be appreciated.

  • Reports 9i and Graphics Wizard questions - Upgrade from 6i

    Hello,
    I am trying to convert my 6i reports to 9i and I have a lot of questions. First, it is my understanding that if we want the reports in the 9i format I will have to recreate all of my graphs. Is this right? Second, when I run the graphics wizard with a report that has multiple queries, it is not retreiving from the query selected in the wizard. Also, with the new graphics wizard can you reuse graphs? I currently have 5 reports that point to the same 2 ogd files. Will I now have to go in and build the same graph 6 times? Finally, if you could point me to some good documentation, I would appreciate it. I have around 30 reports with graphs on them, so if anyone has any suggestions that will make this easier, please let me know.
    Thanks,
    Laura
    [email protected]

    Laura,
    First, You can run the 6i reports with OGD in reports 9i, provided you have your Oracle 6i home is in system path
    and the regsitry variable ORACLE_GRAPHICS6I_HOME is set to pint your 6i oracle home
    Now, if you wan to open these 6i report with OGD and modify the report in 9i builder, then the OGDs are loast when saving this reports from 9i
    buikder, so you would need to recreate the graphs using the graph wizard
    Thanks

  • Mac pro graphics card question

    Hello, I am ordering an apple Mac Pro tomorrow and I need a question cleared up.
    If I get the 4x ATI radion 2600 HD (4 graphics cards) If I hook up one monitor will 1 graphics card take up 1 forth of the screen or is this meant for people with like 4 screens?
    Thank you

    One graphics card can run two monitors. Four graphics cards could run 8 monitors. Four graphics cards will not run one monitor any faster than one graphics cards. Unless you plan on running three or more monitors, even a second graphics card will be money wasted.

  • Graphics card question

    ok here is the senerio - i have G5 Quad with the Quadro FX4500 - i just ordered the MP with the standard 7300 GT - my idea is to swap cards so i can keep my Quadro and put the 7300GT in the G5 Quad - my question is will this 7300 GT work in the Quad? Im pretty sure the Quadro wont have any issues with the MP since they still offer it - unless there is a driver issue.

    All I can say is that if you make your decision based on those two techs, make sure you get their names. So you can use them as a defense if/when it doesn't work. All evidence to date says it won't work;
    http://www.xlr8yourmac.com/archives/aug06/080706.html#S21514
    I personally e-mailed Rob at BareFeats and suggested he try installing a PC GPU in a Mac Pro, he first responded;
    ATI engineers confirmed that you can NOT use a PC graphics card. The Mac Pro requires a special firmware. And those cards are not compatible with the G5 with PCIe slots.
    After another exchange he wrote, This is what the ATI engineer said:
    "The Mac Pro cards do require special EFI firmware, so unfortunately a standard "PC" card won't work."
    His article also says this;
    http://www.barefeats.com/quad05.html
    Then you have these;

    At this point it appears that;
    PPC GPUs will not work in MacPros or PCs.
    PC GPUs will not work in PPC or MacPros.
    MacPro GPUs will not work in PPCs but will work in PCs. One person tried his MacPro 7300 in a PC and it worked fine. If the MacPro's GPU worked fine in a PC, you can bet it won't work in a PPC Mac.
    But of course, you won't know about the 4500 until you, or someone else, tries it

  • Graphics Card Question Mac Pro

    So I have one NVIDIA GeForce GT 120 with 512MB in my mac pro and I wanted to add one more card to my comp just wondering how this works.. For example, could I add the ATI Radeon HD 4870 and would the two work compatibly?
    Or would I have to just grab another NVIDIA GeForce GT 120 with 512MB and double up on that?
    There are 4 PCI Slots right? Anyway another question I had was I heard that you should make a drive designated just for rendering and keeping your files. It was actually Larry Jordan who said this. Anyway he was saying DO NOT partition your drive to create this extra drive for your Rendering Files/media.
    So okay, what does that mean would I have to just buy another hard drive and put it in Bay 2 of my tower? Designating that just for what Larry Jordan was talking about?
    Okay well thanks sorry this post is getting a little big -Nick

    Well, to be precise: the current version of FCP on tiger and Leopard has some issues with some FxPlugs if you have more than one graphics card with monitors plugged into them. You can have a graphics card in all four slots, you just can't have monitors on them. I had the horsepower to drive 8 30" displays from 4 dual-head graphics cards. I took three of them out since they were fundamentally useless.
    No one knows what the next rev of FCP on Snow Leopard will be capable of doing with more than one card and more than two monitors.
    You want a drive in each bay if you're going to be doing video seriously and not as a hobby. If you can afford FCP for a hobby, you can afford the drives so get them anyway.
    You want the 4870 card.
    You want all the RAM you can afford.

  • Totally far out graphics driver question

    This might be a really dumb question, but the wheels in my brain won't stop spinning.
    OK, I'm running arch64 and I have three graphic cards in my system. A pci-E Geforce 7900gtx, pci-E Geforce 6800ultra, and a old pci Geforce4mmx. Right now I have 3 monitors, one per card set up as independent x screens. The Geforce4 runs a 21 inch nec multisync crt next to two dell fpw dvi's. I plan on adding two more dell fpw's, one to the 6800 and one to the 7900 card as they're twinviews. I do a lot of cad work using pro-E and the setup would be very very cool and helpfull. I don't want to ditch my geforce4mmx. It's a workhorse card that runs great despite it's age, and likewise the crt monitor. The geforc4 requires the legacy driver. I was thinking, wouldn't it be great to be able to run the nvidia unified driver and legacy driver at the same time. At first it sounded impossible, but then I thought, what if I created a 64bit chroot containg the neccessary pkgs with the nvidia legacy driver installed. Then install the unified driver in the normal 64bit system. Then create some kind of bash startup script, perhaps with an if statement, pointing to the 64bit chroot , not to use it as a chroot, but like to fake linux out pointing to that directory path so only the gforce4 would see and utilize the legacy driver while the other two use the unified driver in the normal system.
    I know this sounds really far fetched, or even silly, but I can't help but ask if it might be feesable?

    I'm sure your right, but I was just thinking of a way to fake the kernel out to some how run both by havine the exact same kernel, one installed in a fake dir set up with nvidia legacy. Then somehow fool the system so that only the busId corresponding to the Geforce4 points to that fake dir. Now that I had more time to think about it, if by some slim chance It could work, I think I would almost need a complete duplicate system (base) installed next to the valid one, which is definately not practical.

  • Version/graphic card question

    My mac currently has version 10.6.8. My friend told me that there is a 10.7.3 version. How do I turn my 10.6.8 into a 10.7? My second question is that I currently have the graphic card NVIDIA GeForce 9400M. Is that weaker/ older than the NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M? If so is it possible to replace/ upgrade my macbook pro with the better version? If so how do I replace it? Do I simply just buy the new graphic card? Sorry I am kind of new with this type of computer technology.

    If your new to computers, don't do anything but run Software Update under the Apple Menu and make your off the computer backups.
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3045
    10.6.8 will run fine on your older machine, in fact better than 10.7.
    You have a machine from either 2008 or 2009, which would put it about 4 years old and nearing it's end of life stage. It's highly likely not covered by AppleCare any longer, so any issues you will have will be yours alone to resolve.
    You can't replace the video card on Mac's, except the Mac Pro and there is hardly any third party cards anyway.
    Installing 10.7 will make you either go without or require a paid upgrade for most of your third party software, and likely a lot of your third party hardware drivers for your present equipment may not have a update for 10.7
    http://roaringapps.com/apps:table
    IMO for your machine, and you not being computer savvy, is to remain on 10.6.8 until the wheels fall off that machine, if you can make it until this time NEXT year, then buy a brand new, spanking, latest, fastest, greatest machine with 10.8 as by then all the bugs will have been worked out and software ready, buy all new software and any new hardware you will need transfer your files from backup or the older machine as you break in the new one.
    If your present machine conks out before then and you need another one, try to wait until this summer when 10.8 is released and buy a machine then. A machine with a OS installed is easier to deal with than upgrading one. As Apple tests with the newest OS first on the latest hardware, all those who upgrade have to deal with issues from upgrading on older hardware.
    At this point for you with that machine to go to 10.7 and the money, time and aggravation of dealing with a new OS and software is better left for a new machine where you get three months of free hand holding from Apple
    Some may chide me for being anti-Lion, but I don't see the sense of you going through something that's unnecessary for a older machine when 10.8 is being released a few months from now and likely will not run on your machine.
    So then you would be behind again and looking at buying a new machine with 10.8 anyway right?
    So skip the Lion and be happy. Time your new purchase so you get the free hand holding and the new OS at the same time.

  • Future Graphic Card Question

    Hi there, my question is regarding the GPU's in future MacBook Pros. I want to purchase a MacBook Pro but have noticed that the graphics card is an Nvidia 8600GT and I was wondering if a more powerful card (the new 8800 for example) was going to replace it in the near future as I want to play games that are graphically demanding e.g. supreme commander, Crysis etc
    I have trawled through other threads to see if this has been asked before and I couldn't find anything.
    Many thanks in advance to anyone who answers my question

    No one can answer that question, as no one on these boards knows what Apple will do. (Not to mention that speculation about future Apple releases is against the Terms of Use for these forums - oh wait, I just did mention that ).

  • Graphics class questions

    Hey,
    I have two questions about drawing shapes in action script 3.0, using graphics class (flash.display.Graphics):
    Question 1.
    When I draw some more complicated shape consisted of a few simpler shapes (i.e. two circles), and the shapes overlaps, the overlapped region is inverted (is rendered as a "hole"). Is there any way to avoid that?
    This is simple example of this behaviour:
    var oClip : MovieClip = new MovieClip();
    oClip.graphics.beginFill( 0x000000, 0.5 );
    oClip.graphics.drawCircle( 150, 200, 70 );
    oClip.graphics.drawCircle( 250, 200, 100 );
    oClip.graphics.endFill();
    this.addChild( oClip );
    I know,I can do it using separate beginFill/endFill sections for each circle:
    var oClip : MovieClip = new MovieClip();
    oClip.graphics.beginFill( 0x000000, 0.5 );
    oClip.graphics.drawCircle( 150, 200, 70 );
    oClip.graphics.endFill();
    oClip.graphics.beginFill( 0x000000, 0.5 );
    oClip.graphics.drawCircle( 250, 200, 100 );
    oClip.graphics.endFill();
    this.addChild( oClip );
    but then when I use alpha blending, the shapes are blended separatelly. Unfortunatelly, this is not correct for that what I want to do.
    I need to draw one beginFill/endFill session but without "holes" in the final shape, is it possible?
    Question 2.
    Is there an action script counterpart of the Flash menu option: Modify->Break Apart ?
    Many thanks for any help.

    I don't think there is going to be any easy way to do this. But you might want to look at the drawPath command. It allows you to set the winding-rule for the drawn shape and may help.
    Notice the star in the example code goes from filled to not filled and it doesn't show overlap either....

  • Novice Graphics card question

    I have a MacPro that I bought in Sept '07. It has the dual 2.66 processors with 9 GB memory with the standard graphics card. I am using it with Final Cut Express and Arpeture.
    I have two questions:
    Can I upgrade to the Nvidia 8800GT (does my system have PCi express 2)?
    Will I see a difference in FCE?
    Thank you for you help.
    I

    Need the specific model # of your Mac Pro.
    And exactly what video card is in it now?
    I doubt that you will see much of any difference in FCE except perhaps in the scale of RT Effects it can handle.
    What are you looking to 'improve' by upgrading your video card?

  • Imac graphics card question

    I want to get a new iMac intel computer but im not sure if i should get the 17' or the 20'.
    I play the game world of warcraft alot and i was wondering if i got the 17' (which comes with a ATI Radeon X1600/128MB VRAM) would it make a big difference compared to the 20' ( which can be upgraded to ATI Radeon X1600/256MB VRAM)?
    and if it does can i upgrade the 17' to a ATI Radeon X1600/256MB VRAM without going though apple (since they dont offer it though the customize page)?
    -Joshua Galindo

    I cannot answer your first question, but on your second, no, you cannot upgrade the processor, either through Apple or elsewhere. The graphics card is a chip on the main board, and therefore cannot be upgraded or replaced. The only way to get 256MB of graphics memory is to purchase the 20" model.

  • H430 Graphics Card question...

    Good afternoon.
    I'm looking to upgrade my Lenovo H430 with the following graphics card..EVGA - GeForce GTX 750 Ti 2GB GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 Graphics Card
    I do plan upgrading my PSU also, so my main question is, will this card fit in my machine (i.e., right slot type, etc.)
    Thanks for the input.

    Hi
    The dual 2GHz late 2004 G5 has an AGP 8x Pro graphics card slot and three PCI-X slots for other cards. If you want to replace your existing graphics card rather than adding a second card, you'll need a Mac compatible AGP card (and it must be a Mac compatible one rather than a generic PC card) .
    As far as I'm aware three are available retail:
    ATI Radeon 9600 Pro PC & Mac Edition
    ATI Radeon 9800 Pro Mac Edition
    ATI Radeon X800 XT Mac Edition
    The first would be a minimal improvement over the stock card and not really worth the upgrade. The last would be the best available, albeit at a cost ($300+).
    Unfortunately Mac compatible graphics cards seem to have been in short supply recently as they're being redesigned to comply with the RoHS (restriction of hazardous substances) directive. A Mac retailer such as OWC would probably be your best bet, unless Best Buy happen to stock Mac cards:
