Graphics glitch Mountain Lion MBP
So I loaded Mountain Lion on my late 2009 MBP and while the computer was fine before the upgrade, afterwards is a different story. Despite the fact I have 8GB of RAM, it seems to be sluggish, but the main problem stems from the graphics on the display. When I go to use any two-finger gesture (about 70% of the time) the screen will flicker and then "tear" and show portions of the screen in random places, if I don't touch it or restart it, it will change to the "snow" or static fuzz look.
This happened shortly after I bought the computer, which I took back to Apple and had them replace the NVIDIA graphics card and I've been fine since. Now the issue, with the newer card, only 30 mins after installing Mountain Lion, has come back.
This graphics card is one of those dual cards, the one that allows for better battery life or better graphic performance.
Any suggestions?
I decided to call Apple Care, the first person (girl) was very helpful, she had me reset my PRAM, do a disk repair and even a full reinstall of Mountain Lion. She told me that if after the install, the problem still persisted, to call back (as she had given me 90 days of support for Mountain Lion). However, when I called back, because the issue still kept happening (surprise), I got a guy, who barely spoke english, which was the first time this has ever happened when I've called Apple. He was very rude and didn't really seem to fully understand what I was trying to explain to him, regardless of the fact that my entire case was on the computer in front of him. After explaining to him that I had one logic board fail over a year ago, that had since been replaced, my computer had been working fine, that is until I installed OS X 10.8. He said that is impossible as this is a hardware issue and Moutain Lion is software. After trying to explain to an "Apple" rep that the software in Mountain Lion contains drivers for "hardware" and that, that could be the issue, he refuted the possibility. I then pointed out that I've posted on the Apple support forums....want to know his reply, you'll love this.
He said and I quote: "We" [Apple] don't reference or acknowledge the forums for issues like this, because our competitors can change their names or make accounts and post false information in our forums, attempting to degrade our products and make us look bad."
Can you believe that?? So regardless of the fact that my logic board has now failed twice in 3 years, he tells me since I don't have Apple Care extended support, I'll have to pay out of pocket. Frustrated and annoyed by the most unprofessional Apple rep I've ever encountered, I hung up the phone and will be making a trip to my nearest Apple retail store (an hour away) this evening. At least I'll have someone who speaks english and I can actually show them the issue first hand, as the computer can't go more than 5 mins without the glitch showing up.
To see if you are having similar issues: Go to YouTube and type this in exactly (or copy and paste it)
"MacBook Pro graphic issue after Mountain Lion install" minue the quotes. It will be posted by me, mtwewerka.
I just thought I'd share this issue with the CSR at Apple with you all, oh, he also said he has never heard of this issue. He said since ML has been released, he's been taking calls for days and I'm the first person that's reported this problem. After reading all of your responses, I can only assume he's lying. However, in case he isn't, if you haven't already, I highly recommend you call Apple at 800-APL-CARE and tell them of your issue so we can get this noticed by a few representatives. Seeing how I run my own tech new blog, believe me, I'll be spreading the word...just not with the same level of hostility as I am on these forums.

Mountain Lion MBP to Projector difficulties.
Mountain Lion MBP to Projector difficulties. I have the right VGA cable and the VGA to miniport adapter, but no luck. The "arrangements" tab in the Display section of the system preferences doesn't even appear. I've tried low resolution, safe boots, etc.
What should I do?
Thank you in advance.I have got the same problem ever since I updated to Mountain Lion. I record my TV shows to my computer. Once they are recorded, they're converted and sent to iTunes overnight. Once the task was done, it'd go to sleep. Well, that used to be the case until I updated to Mountain Lion. Now, the shows are recorded, but when I wake up in the morning, the computer is asleep, and the conversion is half-way done. This DID NOT used to happen. So, one does not necessarily need to be there typing or moving the mouse to keep the computer awake. If it is performing a task, why should it enter into sleep mode? Disklike.
Glad to know I am not the only one dealing with this issue. It seems also like with every update of OS X my computers become slower. Restart has become slower. My PC(!!) at school is faster than my MBP. What gives!!

Any sign of 10-bit graphics in Mountain Lion?
Since many users first started looking for support for widely available 10-bit per channel monitors, spurred on by Apple's adoption of DisplayPort, it seems we've had silence!
Is there ANY indication that Apple are going to implement support for "Deep Color"? Currently it seems that for video users, dedicated hardware can display the source, and in some cases a preview of 30-bit is available from Photoshop for dedicated, related hardware like the Matrox MX02 Mini. But many Macs have 30-bit capable cards installed. I have a Quadro 4000 For Mac installed, and Photoshop CS6, etc. - CUDA support, the lot, EXCEPT for 30-bit colour!
Right now I have to switch over to Windows to use this. That's crazy.
Third party solutions or direct from Apple. Anything?Apples silence is defening !
I too have been going around and around the internet trying to find out if Mountain Lion has 10 bit per channel support. Why Apple fails to make a statement either way is indicative that Mountain Lion is not 30 bit capable even though we have DisplayPort graphics cards, Photoshop CS6 and Adobe Gamut capable monitors.
I love Apple but have told a friend of mine to buy a Windows 7 computer until Apple catches up.
What a waste of money.
Come on Apple make a staement ! -
I have a brand new Macbook pro Retina OSX Mountain Lion pre installed, Logic Pro 9 studio. I'm running in 32 bit mode, Logic is crashing constantly and all I'm doing is copying a note on the piano roll to another beat. That's all it takes to crash. I will add to this post other functions that cause the crash as time goes on trying to work on a song. Anyone else experiencing this behavior ?
Did some research on the forums, I tried running Logic 9 in 64bit mode and so far that seems to do the trick. I should mention that I was using 1 instance of BFD drums and quite a few waves plugins. I think the BFD was hogging the memory perhaps.

Hello
I have a little network with 2 x Macpro, 1 x Macbook pro Retina, 1 x Mac Mini server and one DiskStation.
I have no problem to backup the two Macpro and the Macmini on the Diskstation
But I only have problem with my Macbook pro Retina.
I was told to start the 1st backup using Ethernet
After a few complemantary backup in WIFI I get the message :
I have done this MANY times
I have tried to repair the Backup file
THE PROBLEM IS ONLY WITH THE MACBOOK PRO RETINA IN MOUNTAIN LION
I had Apple support, answer : "no support because you are using a disk station" (I have used this diskstation since many years without ANY problem)
Looks like it is a WIFI problem !!!!
Thanks in advance for your help
Best

Yes. See #C13 in [Time Machine - Troubleshooting|http://web.me.com/pondini/Time_Machine/Troubleshooting.html] (or use the link in *User Tips* at the top of this forum).
My Time Machine drive is a 500GB drive connected to an Airport Extreme via USB.
I hate to have to tell you this, but backing-up that way is "iffy" and +*not supported by Apple.+* See [Using Time Machine with an Airport Extreme Air Disk|http://web.me.com/pondini/Time_Machine/Airport.html] (or use the link in *User Tips* at the top of this forum).
You really should find a more reliable way to back up. See #2 in [Time Machine - Frequently Asked Questions|http://web.me.com/pondini/Time_Machine/FAQ.html] (or use the link in *User Tips* at the top of this forum) for your options.
I find this message confusing. Why must TM create a new backup?
As in the first link above, because they're damaged beyond Disk Utility's ability to repair them. Exactly what that is, we mere mortals don't know. It's only on network backups, and even folks using Time Capsules see this occasionally. -
Corrupted graphics on Mountain Lion 10.8.4
Hi there,
Have you experienced something like the screen below?
I am able to move the mouse but nothing works! Force quit doesn't work even when I click command+option+escape.
I have to always reset from the power button.
Any ideas?
I have made a clean installation of Mountain Lion 10.8.4
My computer: Macbook Pro, 2.66 GHz Intel Core i7, Memory 8 GB 1067 DDR3 (changed it last year PNY)
Thanks and I am looking forward to hearing from you,
JIs there any way to completely reinstall just TM without having to reinsall all the system files on the OS?
No, and you need to make sure that you completely removed the third-party hack you installed, by following the developer's instructions. -
HT3258 Missing Pictures, Music, after Transferring to Mountain Lion MBP
I changed from Lion Macbook to Mountain Lion Macbook using Time Machine's Migration Assistant. While all documents are there, software, pictures, and music seems to have gone somewhere, and I cannot locate them. Could anyone help me finding them out?
Try remigrating then. Don't know what more to suggest because I don't know exactly what you migrated.
Open Users & Groups preferences. How many accounts are listed other than Guest? If there are two accounts try logging into the other account which may be the one you migrated. -
Graphics Issue in Lion (MBP 13" Mid 2010)?!
I installed Mac OS X Lion without any problems, but if I drag a file from the Finder to the right side of my desktop, I get a graphical defect for about 0.5s!
I was able to make a snapshot:
This defect only appears if there are min. two columns on my desktop. I also tried to reinstall Lion, but the problem last!
How to solve it?I have a simmilair problem on my Mid 2011 iMac , mine starts when playing a youtube video fullscreen. Not always but it gives pink dots over the screen and when i leave fullscreen my navigation bar on top is messed up but the dropdown menu's are ok

Bitmapping Fonts and Graphics in Mountain Lion
My fonts graphics are bitmapping whenever I use Adobe CS5 (specifically, Illustrator and Indesign). Then I noticed that fonts and graphics are bitmapping in Chrome as well. It seems to work fine in Safari, but I still see some bitmapping, such as the editing bar above, as I type this question (in Safari).
I've also get a MacBook Pro 15" with Retina display.
Any ideas? Here is an interesting discussion on the same topic:

Need some advice
I'm currently using snow leopard, and it seems that there's no graphic driver updates for a really long time.
Snow Leopard is no longer being updated, 10.6.8, was the last update. So, a "really long time," will be forever.
Yes, ML has graphic driver updates, but since there is no way to guess whether it impacts your unmentioned hardware, there is no way your question can be answered. -

com.apple.kec.corecrypto 1.0I don't know - it was the unloaded kext and the backupd that made me think that it had to be a Time Machine backup. How is it connected (USB, FW, etc.)? You may just have to reformat it and try it again, but it could be something as simple as a bad cable (if it's USB, in particular). I would get a new cable and try that out first - reformat only as a last resort.
Good luck,

Ok, I have a 2009 Macbook White w/ 2Gz Core 2 Duo, 2Gb RAM, 120Gb HDD and NV9400M graphics. Mountain Lion finally tempted me to do the upgrade and I wanted to take the opportunity to upgrade to SSD as well. Here's what I did:
Originally my 120Gb was partitioned as 90Gb on 10.5.8 and 30Gb on Bootcamp for Window Vista.
I upgraded Macbook from Leopard to Mountain Lion while it's still fitted with the original HDD. Gotta give credit to the lads at the Genius Bar who helped me with the clean install while keeping the Bootcamp partition intact!
I then took out the HDD, stick it into a USB3.0 HD enclosure, then put in my brand new SSD. (Plextor 128Gb SATA3). I booted from the 10.8 recovery partition on my old HDD via USB, partitioned the SSD, then 'restored' the HDD's Mac OS X partition (now 10.8) onto my SSD. Relatively painless process, and as a PC geek, I can't complain! :-)
Here's the situation: Now that I've gotten Mountain Lion to run on my 3yr old macbook white on my brand spanking new SSD, I was actually expecting really snappy performance but no. I noticed now it takes much longer to boot: I was so 'convinced' that the combination of SSD + Mountain Lion would give me such a significant boost that I couldn't care less to write down the previous boot time. Right now it takes about 40-50 seconds for me to even see the 'apple' sign and another 15-20 secondds to get up & running. That's without anything running in the background as it's still a clean install.
Read a few old posts it seems a common issue but given that I have a clean install, I wanted to make sure I haven't done anything wrong.
Last but not least, I also noticed while I booted from the 10.8 recovery partition from my old HDD, there's also an option of doing 'clean' reinstall of 10.8 on my SSD. I tried that but it ended up being a HUGE wait. The estimated time just kept growing and when it hits 6hrs, I cancelled it. What does it do and is it normal to take such a long time to complete? I rememeber the upgrade from Leopard to Mountain Lion took abt. 1.5yr...Actually just noticed something interesting:
If I press and hold down the option key when I switch on the macbook, I will get to the boot screen whereas I can choose between my main partition and the recovery 10.8 on my SSD. Once I select the main partition, I'll be able to complete the booting, total time is abt. 30 seconds.
So my guess is that if I don't force the boot screen, then the computer is running some process in the background that WILL eventually boot from the main partition?
Is there any setup I can do/tweak to get the computer to boot straight from the main partition? -
Safari Mountain Lion text editing glitch
Has anyone else seen problems with the latest Safari on the latest Mountain Lion where text that is being edited causes flashing? I found a YouTube video that demonstrates the problem:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aYkqXkJXod4
This is very similar to what I'm seeing on my early-2011 MBP running Mountain Lion. It's especially bad in Google Docs, but it seems to happen when editing text in lots of web apps. The creator of the video suggested turning off the Energy Saver setting "Automatic graphics switching." He said that fixes the problem but also drains the battery a lot faster. And I can attest to that. Just during the time I've been typing this message, my battery has gone from 58% to 54%. But I haven't seen any of the text editing glitch.
I never saw this in Lion, so I'm guessing it's a new bug introduced in Mountain Lion, or Safari, or in one of the video drivers used by the early-2011 MBP. So I'm wondering if anyone else has seen this, and if Apple is already aware of it, and if anyone has a better workaround.
Thanks,
Todd.
ps. Battery is now at 51%.This thread seems to be dealing in the area where I am having a problem. I can easily from Safari email the link to a page but if I choose in the mail side to have it as pdf it simply goes into mail and just sits there and keeps displaying the message loading in the mail message it opens.
If I do it from safari by going to the print menu and selecting from the PDF area of the print dialogue mail pdf it will open a mail message with the pdf showing as an attachment. Similar happens if I choose to send it as a web page. Does not seem to matter on either if I have it set to rich text or text in the mail same behaviour.
Any idea with what might be going on. thanks

IMac graphics issues on Mountain Lion
Upgraded from Lion to Mountain Lion. Ever since, graphics issues kept popping up. Can't play games in Windows via Bootcamp. Screen all of sudden turned black once entered the game. Even playing games on iMac has this issue, and the whole screen turned grey. I even had a clean install of ML and also reinstall WIndows on Bootcamp, but issues still presists. Graphics artifacts appeared in Mountain Lion, which I never had during Lion. Anyone have the same issues? NOw Bootcamp is V5.0, which is the latest. Is there anything I can do? Even my MBP early 2011 model had minor graphics glitches after waking up from sleep mode, some of my friends even have glitches after opening up his MBP lid. 4 of us upgraded to ML and 3 of them had major issues, which are very annoying.
I also updated my iMac 21" Mid. 2011 base Model from Lion to Mountain Lion and also had jerky/choppy UI after waking up and only after waking up, never after a restart. I tried a clean intsall and get my data back from Time Machine but it did not help. Then I made clean install without getting back my data and without installing any Apps, and what should I say, same issue. The iMac was over night in sleep mode (this morning I had the promblem again) so i think there is an issue with the Graphic Driver or somthing else and the maintenance scripts. But not sure. I tried 10.8.1 12B17 that did not help either.
Sorry for my English.
