Graphics issues with latest updates on mbp mid 2010

ive been experiencing graphics issues recently while playing games on steam (team fortress 2, Counter strike source, the lot). i notice its affecting starcraft 2 as well. they used to run perfectly fine a few days ago. and im pretty sure i haven't dropped it or anything between then and now. ive noticed that some people with mbp early 2011 models are experiencing the same problems. anyone got any info on this or experiencing the same problems?

10.8 Mountain Lion is not the same as previous software.
Contact the folks who sold you that adapter and see if there are any software updates for it.

Two issues with latest update for Windows

I have noticed 2 issues with the new update. When I have a file transfer I don't want, there is no longer a cancel link. Also, when saving a file transfer that I do want, it saved it to the default location and updated my preferences to always do that. It should respect the option setting to prompt me for a download location.

As long as you have a bullet in "choose a folder to save the file in every time" then it will not save files to a folder or automatically accept incoming files. The main exception to that is the initiation of a file for the first time on the newer clients. If it pops up about the new automatic saving you would click on "settings" and toggle it back to you preferred setting. The only other exception to that are images. Images sent to you via a mobile are sent to the cloud and will be cached/downloaded into your media folder. That cannot be avoided. You can cancel ongoing transfers on your end but not pending transfers.

Anyone else have issues with latest update?

Yesterday morning I closed out of Firefox and found a window advising that there were updates and asking if I wanted to install them. I plugged my MBP in so it had power and reconnected the external drive that I use for Time Machine and approved the install, accepted the terms and watched to see that it had gotten started, then went to take care of other things. I was busy most of the day and never checked on its progress, but went to use it in the late afternoon and found it stuck at the "moving items into place" section of the update. Since more than 6 hours had elapsed since the update started I killed it by holding down the power button. Waited about a minute and restarted it, wasn't surprised when it failed to reboot. Inserted the original SL Install DVD and booted from that then repaired the disk and restored from TM backup. Only some minor issues after restore, easily resolved, but this morning I got prompted to install the same updates again, Is this a good idea, or should I wait a few days before attempting to install these updates? I have already hit the "Not Now" button, but expect I will be prompted again before long.

This sort of helped, I installed each update separately, leaving the OS X 10.7.3 update for last and it still failed, unless it is supposed to take longer than 2.5 hours to complete. I just finished restoring for the second time, I'm not sure what is wrong, but I will wait a while nd see if others have problems with this update.

Issues with latest update to 7.0.2

I did the update to my Iphone 4S. Now entering my passcode causes a delay of 10 sec. It is sticking after the first number is entered. No issues with update with ipad mini. Please advise

restore it from a backup, it' s the second step

You have the misfortune of having purchased a model identifier 6.2 MBP that has a history of GPU problems. There was a recall on these models but that has expired.
You may have the logic board replaced at your expense.

It will allow you to disable the discrete GPU which should stop the kernel panics. You will be able to run the MBP on just the integrated GPU but at the expense of graphics performance.

Issue with latest Update? or something else?!

My Apple TV shows in the Summary page in iTunes - 144.07Gb of Other and 573.4Mb Free.
In the drop down option in iTunes (on laptop) for the Apple TV device, there are no TV Shows, or Movies being shown - but there should be.
On the Apple TV itself now, connected with HDMI to a TV, when I try to view any of the "My XXX" content show's - "There are no TV Shows/movies on your Apple TV. Set up a connection with iTunes, or purchase TV shows from the iTunes store. If you've already set up iTunes, make sure it is open on your computer."
1 - There are TV and movies on my Apple TV
2 - A connection with iTunes is active / connected
3 - ALL of my content was purchased on the Apple TV (with iTunes connected with my account)
4 - computer is open
I am a subscriber to this thread (Support>Discussions>Apple TV) so I am going to ask around before I purchase support on my out-of-warranty Apple TV.

This may be related to the update, which version are you running.
Although I didn't actually experience it some users lost content from their tv when upgrading to v 3.0, I believe that some reported more or less the same thing as you in that the content disappeared and 'other' seemed to fill up by about the same amount.
To fix this issue, v 3.0.1 was released although I don't know whether it reversed what happened or simply stopped it happening again (as I didn't have the issue to begin with).
It may well be that you need to restore your tv to recover the space used by 'other' and then resync your itunes library.

Theme graphical issues since latest update - Gnome 3

Just did a total -Syyu update, so I don't know exactly what caused this, but my Gnome3 theme is now really odd. Text is difficult to read, top banner is changed. Not sure if this was intended or not but it's really ugly and I suspect an issue.

Photo app syncing issues with latest updates

Since installing the new OS X Yosemite 10.10.3 to iMac and ISO 8.3 to iPhone 5s and iPad3, not all of my photo albums and or photos in various albums are syncing..... any hints?? I also installed the latest iTunes 12.1.2.27 too ! I have rebooted all devices too....

Maybe try it this way this is what I did with mine because I did not migrate and didn't know about that either.
Photos application for Mac Instructions that might help!
On your iPad,iPhone keep the iCloud on in settings for Photos.
if you have not opened the New Photos application yet to have it transfer your photos from iPhoto let it Transfer the Pictures.
once you have all the pictures from iPhoto to Photos then in Photos go to Preferences
there is general and iCloud tab and go to the iCloud and only uncheck the iCloud button that will make it so it doesn't sync with your iPhone and iPad for Photos.
Then in Photos go up to View and press show sidebar because with that view you can move your pictures easier to albums snd delete or move any pictures or make new albums
For Duplicates if you have a big pile in a row and I mean not like every other picture of the same pictures on the keyboard Hold down the shift button. or the other way is to Hold down the Command buttom that is right by the space bar then on the trackpad or mouse click once on the picture you want to delete and do a bunch at a time then on the last picture of that pile either right click the picture and delete or go up to the edit button which is next to file on the top left and click delete in edit.
when you are all done with moving around your pictures or whatever go back to Preferences and turn on iCloud and make sure you have the optimize Mac Storage and then you are done! I hope this makes sense and works for you! here are the 2 pictures I'm talking about in settings.

Possible Fan Issue With My Macbook Pro 13inch Mid 2010 Model.

Lately I've been getting really weird noises coming from my Macbook Pro. I assume it's the fan because I have a little menubar app that monitors my fan. It seems it can't go beyond 2000rpm and the noise coming from it is loud. I don't know if the motor is going bad or what because after a certain amount of time it gets really hot. In the past I would just shutdown my MBP and restart it which would sometimes fix the problem. The first time I had this happen was last year. I took it to a Apple Store where the genius told me there is probably something stuck in the fan because it stopped making the noise. At the time this was still under warrenty and being a student I couldn't afford to get Apple Care. I do plan on taking this to a Apple Store to have diagnositcs run on it. Has anyone else have this problem before and what do you think a estimate would cost to get it fixed?

I'm not sure I undertand the logic of that, but in any case, I would get the case number and/or whatever paperwork you have from the visit, and go back to see if they might still cover it under warranty because the issue first occurred when it was still under warranty.

That's a good plan to have them diagnose it. An estimate of the cost of the repair should be free.

I have a major graphics issue with my Mac Book Pro mid 2010 after upgrading to Yosemite. I have a 2.66ghz with 8gb memory and 320M 256 MB NVIDIA graphics card. Since upgrading to Yosemite (after a clean install) I have had the following issue that are driving me crazy;
When I use more than one program my screen displays large blocks of unrecognisable fuzziness. I have two screen working off my Mac Book Pro, one is the Apple 27 inch theatre screen.
My system works slow despite have ample free memory available on my disk (over 150gb)
It is becoming an increasing concern as this issue builds up over the day to the point where I need to reboot to fix, however as soon as I use Photoshop the system almost grinds to a halt. Other issues that are bearable but ned addressing include;
Keyboard often does not work on startup and requires you to pull out the keyboard and reconnect (intermittent).
Lost email when sent (intermittent). I had hoped that this would be fixed in this updated release.
Laggy behaviour in general.
I am hoping someone has an idea to fix these issues or are also sharing my frustration. Can someone suggest fix as this is not a workable situation for Mac book Pro users and 2010 is not that of an old computer. Apple???

So you erased your drive and installed 10.10 and then 10.10.1 and everything else was t hrough Setup Assistant, through reinstalls, or through TimeMachine restore?
A four-year old laptop may be at the point where that small older gpu and processors have more trouble.
you might want to hold off and go back to Mavericks or whatever you had - hopefully you cloned that system before doing clean install, upgrade to 16GB, maybe throw in an SSD... or save and get the next MacBook Pro to come out.
And you checked your apps at http://www.roaringapps.com for compatibility.
Might help just to see what if anything shows up in output from Etrecheck.
Probably thought this was laptop MacBook Pro, it is not, probably best moved to Yosemite forum.

Same issue here- I can airplay my amazon prime library just fine from my iphone 5 but on my macbook- (mavericks, 15 inch 2013 retina with quad core i7, nvidia 650 M and SSD) it just sputters and lags.
I have noticed web video is considerably worse than local content, giving me pauses of up to 2 or 3 seconds in which video stops but audio continues in the amazon player. Youku video, however, seems relatively stable. Our subscription speed is 25 mbps, so that should be plenty to stream SD video from Amazon and doesn't account for why it would be nice and stable from the iphone, but not the mbp.
Playing light, locally hosted steam sidescrollers like Limbo is better but gives periodic drops in framerate on the Tv. when mirroring the framerate remains steady on the MBP screen.
Games airplayed from my iphone seem relatively stable, though with a noticably lower framerate on the TV than on the phone.
It seems these issues have abated considerably since yesterday's Apple TV update, but are still curious nonetheless and I'm not sure that the update yesterday was specifically meant to address those issues or if I'm just getting a time with less network interference now.
Comcast recently installed a new router/modem/phone combo, replacing our old separate modem and router setup. I'm going to test if putting the network on a different channel helps.

It lists the merdia source programs and has a volume dial, thats all this new one has.
The other issues are that none of the software updates want to install: Alchemy, Mixer, Mediasource Go
They all give me a message after I being to install that says "can not locate layout.bin please specify the path"? and gives my a "this setip reqires a cd" window and lists a path to a temp folder inside my windows folder.
Installing these for Vista? Ultimate 32-bit.

My mbp (mid 2010) is running extremely slow after installing some mavericks updates on May 22nd. Earlier I thought this behavior is due to spotlight indexing but it finished after 3 days. I deleted all caches from library. But no luck, still running extremely slow. I checked activity monitor for cpu usage, it shows above 90% is idle. The memory usage always shows PM - 4 GB, Memory Used 3.96 GB, VM - 4 GB, Swaped used 0 bytes, App Memory 1.82 GB, File Cache 1.44 GB, Wired Memory 480 MB.

Was it the combo updater that was installed or the OS X 10.9.3 update. There is a difference.

Apple updates available from the Software Update application are incremental updates. Delta updates are also incremental updates and are available from Apple Downloads (software updates are generally smaller than delta updates). The Combo updates contain all incremental updates and will update files that could have become corrupted.
Combo updaters will install on the same version as they're applying--no need to roll back or do a clean install. So if you think you've got a borked 10.8.4 install from a regular update, just run the 10.8.4 Combo Updater on that system.
"Delta" updaters can only take you from one version to the next. For example: 10.9.1 to 10.9.2. If somehow the 10.9.2 is missing something it should have, and that something isn't changed between 10.9.1 and 10.9.2 it will still be stale after the delta update.
