Graphics processor won't activate.

Just installed CS6 Extended, and it said my graphics driver wasn't working properly or was damaged. Went online, found updates and installed them, but I still can't get the graphics processor to activate. What else can I do to correct this? Will it still work without that feature active?

And what graphics card are we talking about? On what system? Hardware support is specific and on some systems simply not avialable.

  • Early 2008 MBP w/ NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT graphics processor fail

My beautiful Macbook Pro 17" (early 2008) just started getting stripes on the screen and randomly shutting down; research and a call to a local Mac repair person say this is the known problem with the NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT graphics processor.
What do I do now considering the class action suit in the States, and it being 2014? Do I take it to my nearest Apple store and request a fix/replacement?
I've been a Mac user since the early 6100, moved to my beautiful G4 ('Albert', as he was lovingly known), then on to the eMac 800. Bought the Macbook Pro 17" in May 2008 because I needed it to travel with but now it's presenting with vertical stripes and will suddenly shut down for no reason.
Have a Mac Mini which is my main machine, but I really need the MPB for when I travel abroad.
I don't think it's fair that the machine I bought, which I now I find out has a known issue with the graphics card, won't get dealt with because Apple closed the replacement programme in December 2012 (according to this page on Apple MacBook Pro: Distorted video or no video issues). And if it's a known faulty piece of hardware that was installed in their machines, how can there be a time limit on the replacement? If I only use my machine once in a blue moon that means it will, logically, fail much later that a person who uses a machine every day, so why do I lose out. I spent just the same amount of money to buy the new machine as everyone else so where are my consumer rights?
If there's an Apple representative that would like to respond and resolve my issue, I would be grateful. I can take my machine to the nearest Apple 'genius' bar tomorrow for the diagnostic to prove it's a faulty Nvidia graphics processor.
I'm hoping my dad with his Dell PC, which he bought in 2005 and is still running, is not right to scoff at my Mac love!
    With kind regards,

    Hi Kappy,
I found my nearest UK store in Solihull, but it tells me there's no availability for appointments with people with Macs until Friday at 4pm!!! I'll be leaving the country on Thursday and need this sorted out before then.
I don't want to delay my flight, drive all the way to Solihull to be told my MBP is out of the time perioid available for the replacement programme. What exactly do you mean by 'take it in for a service'? If it's the Nvidia card as everything points to, what will they do?
Thanks for your time, and suggestions.
    Cheers,
    Tracy

  • Intel Graphics Processors Not Supported!?!?!?

So I read the Logic Studio system requirements and bought the new version for my Core 2 Duo white MacBook, since it fits the specs. I'm just about to install and I read the "Before You Install" doc.
It says about STP and Compressor, "Integrated Intel graphics processors not supported.) Whatthe?
What does this mean? That STP and Compressor won't install on my MacBook?
Shouldn't this have been in the Logic Studio system requirements?
I'm stuck and don't want to install now at all.
    Help?

Well, it all installed, though when I launched STP, it threw up a dialog that said it might not work properly with less the 128 MB VRAM. Oh, joy. We shall see.
Apple really needs to put this on their LogicStudio System Requirements page.

  • HT203254 Can you find a NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT graphics processors

Where Can you find a NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT graphics processors. I need one for my MacBook Pro 15" A1260.

the GPU is soldered on the logic board. you would need to buy a new logic board.

  • MacBook Pro A1260 with NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT graphics processor

    Hello,
I booted my MBP 2.5Ghz Core 2 Duo this morning and was greeted with a startup chime and then a pink 'chequer board' effect on screen while the apple logo appears faintly in the background. The OS doesn't ever load because the startup sequence seems to freeze shortly after this.
I think this sounds like the infamous NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT graphics processor failure
If so, am I correct in thinking Apple may still be addressing the failure, free of charge. I think it's supposed to be up to 4 years from date of purchase, but given that this macbook was discontinued in Oct 2008, and it's now sept 2012 it would make it very tight, perhaps even exceeding the cutoff, becuase I can't remember the purchase date.
Does anyone know the restrictions to this offer? Do you need the original receipt/invoice? Does the MBP need to be standard, or can it have been upgraded with SSD or 2nd Hard Drive, or anything? Are they even strict on the cutoff date? Anyone have any experience on what to expect? I'm fearing the loss of time and projects while this is being sorted out
    Thanks all.

It's a little late for me to jump into your discussion, I only read it when I posted an issue with the same model.
Well, I hope you got it fixed soon enough in 2012, because as I learned in the past few days after purchasing that model and reading up on the issues, Apple stopped the care for this fault on December 7th or so in 2012.
Seeing that people still get problems due to that graphics card, I should try to return the used one I just bought. I might run well now, but who knows how long.

  • NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT graphics processor Macbook Pro 15 in model June 2007

Screen black out with power on, read on the web that this is due to manufacturing defect of NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT graphics processor, will i still get the free replacement from Apple service centre?

    Hi
Are you getting the MacBook Pro repaired ?

I tried last week. The best I could get was a discount on the repair, but the damage to my logic board by the GPU caused it to no longer boot. The program ended in December last year, but it has been extended in the past.
If you have no other damage you might be able to get a flat rate tier 1 repair if you are in the USA.

iMessage and FaceTime went down yesterday for some people. Mine is still down. My iMessage is saying the same thing about being activated. Sounds like you are still down too. Ignore the status page that says everything is fine - it lies.

  • My iMessage won't activate my email but will with phone number. I type my password and it says it's wrong I change it and it still says its wrong. I even made a new account and it still says the password is wrong.

    Hi hectorness12!
Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities! I have found an article that can help you with troubleshooting your iMessage issue. The article can be found here:

  • Updated toOS 6.1.2, now graphic novels won't open

I just updated my iPad to 6.1.2, and now I can't open any graphic novels. I can open books, but my graphic novels won't open at all. I tried redownloading one and the same problem. Any ideas on what i should do?

It shows Storage: 5.38 Available and 8.5 Used
    Battery Usage On and 41%
    Time since last full charge:
         Usage            --
         Standby         --
So, I don't think that's it, do you?
I can open everything else, but when I open a Graphic Novel, it kicks me out of iBooks all together.
    Thank you for helping me!

  • After upgrading to a new 3GS, my original iPhone won't activate...

After I upgraded to an iPhone 3GS, I restored the original iPhone with iTunes. Now, the iPhone says it's got an invalid SIM in it, and when I plug it into iTunes, it won't activate it. It's basically a brick now.
Was I wrong in thinking I could now use the old iPhone basically like an iPod touch?

I haven't seen any press release that supercedes that, but the one you reference refers to the ORIGINAL iPhone, not a 3G. There have been posts here and elsewhere indicating that the restore/upgrade function no longer works on the 3G once you update to 3GS.
I suppose the original poster can put a phone call in to AppleCare to see if they might be able to get some help from them. I didn't make this rule, I am just reporting what everyone else is seeing, with or without the SIM card in the 3G.

  • How do i choose a better graphics processor for my MacBook Pro when ordering it?

I am considering getting a non retina mac book pro online and read about customising it for better performance. It mentioned upgrading to a better graphics processor, but I see no options to upgrade in the checkout, only upgrades to the processor. Do I buy graphics processor separately after I have my MacBook?

You cannot upgrade graphic processor after buying it.
There are two versions of MacBook Pro Retina 15-inch.
One comes with  Intel Iris Pro Graphics and other with
Intel Iris Pro graphics and NVIDIA GT 750M with 2GB of GDDR5.

I have Photoshop CS6 Extended Students and Teachers Edition.  when I go into the Filter/Oil paint and try to use Oil Paint a notice comes up "This feature requires graphics processor acceleration.  Please Check Performance Preferences and verify that "Use Graphics Processor" is enabled.  When I go into Performance Preferences I get a notice "No GPU available with Photoshop Standard.  Is there any way I can add this feature to my Photoshop either by purchasing an addition or downloading something?

Does you display adapter have a supported  GPU with at least 512MB of Vram? And do you have the latest device drivers install with Open GL support.  Use CS6 menu Help>System Info... use its copy button and paste the information in here.
