Grass Valley MXF files imported to Premiere CS3 ?

Does anyone know if you can import Grass Valley MXF files into Premiere CS3, and if not, is there a program I can get that can take the MXF file and convert it into a different file?
Thanks
Josh
(We just upgraded Premiere to the latest upgrades)

I realize that this is very old, but I would like to point out that MXF files can be read/used by Premiere CS5.5... but not all MXF's are created equal. Our Canon MXF's come in just fine, however everything we shoot on our Grass Valley Infinity cameras can not be imported natively. For that we've had to either use Edius to import and convert the files to Premiere friendly files or purchase the Main Concepts MPEG 2 plugin. With that plugin the MXF files can be imported & edited in CS5.5.
Not sure about any of this in relation to CS3 though (assuming you haven't upgraded in the last 3 years).

do you know why when I import my .mpg files to sequence and then put them on a timeline - only wideo stream appeares and no sound... though .mpg files themselves do have sound?

    I save

  • MXF file importing trouble to CS5

I just got a Panasonic hpx 250 camera and its native files are MXF files. They are not compatible with my software, premiere CS5. Can anyone recommend a converter or other fix that will allow me to use MXF files with premiere, something that will link the audio and video files without degrading the video quality, or taking forever to render?  It has been suggested that an upgrade to CS6 may solve the problem.  Can anyone tell me what's new in CS6 that would make importing MXF's easier?
    Thanks!

Thanks Jim, you got me thinking about those presets and I started monkeying with the media browser.  The MXF files import cleanly through it.  I was also not saving enough of the MXF contents file to my hard drive.  Yeah, you need more than the audio and video.  By saving the whole folder,  opening in the media browser and importing from there, seems to be working like a champ.   I’ve never had to go through the media browser before, but I usually deal with only with .avi or mpeg files.
Thanks again for the nudge in the right direction.

  • Import a Premiere CS3 Project into Premiere Elements 7.

Is it possible (or NOT) import a Premiere CS3 Project into Premiere Elements 7?
Thanks a lot for any help.

It is only possible to open some PrE Projects into the right version of PrPro, but will not work the other way around. The error message that you will get is "This Project was created in Adobe PrPro and you need to open it in that program."
Even going the PrE to PrPro route is filled with potholes. I can open some PrE 4 Projects in PrPro 2.0, but not all - depends on what was done. Later versions of PrE will not open in PrPro 2.0, but some have opened in CS3 and CS4, though much can keep one from being able to do that.
    Sorry for the bad news,
    Hunt

  • Captured .avi file much shorter when imported as Premiere CS3 clip.

I'm new to Premiere CS3. My first project is to convert several old VHS tapes to DVD. My analog camcorder plays into an analog video-to-Firewire converter (ADSTech Pyro A/V Link). The Firewire digital stream was smoothly captured by Premiere and sent to my NTSF-formatted scratch disk under MS Windows XP Pro. The single .avi file (about 5 GB) plays back nicely in Windows Media Player which indicates a total length of 18min, 34sec. But when imported into a Premiere project, only the first 1min, 18sec appears.
    What's up?

    John--
I downloaded and ran GSpot v2.70a on my AVI file. Lot's of data!
In the GSpot "Container" window it reports these lines:
    File Length Correct
    DV Type 2 AVI
    Multipart OpenDML AVI (5 parts)
(41160 frames in first part, -96 frames follow)
The "Video" report window says "Codec(s) are installed" with the name "DVC/DV Video." Actual length is 22m, 46.979s (which differs from my original statement because there a stretch of blank tape conversion after the actual content).
I think I'll repeat the transfer and be watching at the critical times.
Thanks for the pointer to GSpot and also thanks, Jim, for your response.

  • Mxf File import failure

    Dear All,
I have a problem to import files in CS4 from a Sony PDW-U1(MPEG2 HD 50CBR_1920_1080_422P@HL" formatFps="50i") on my new HP Quad Core 4600.
The error message: file import failure "Unsupported format or damaged file" but is not damaged.
The PC don't have a capture card and I don't need it, I just want to import the mxf and edit it on the timeline then encode in flv.
    Someone have an idea?
    Many thanks
    Claudio

MainConcept sells a fairly expensive PP plugin that supposedly will read the Sony XDCAM HD 422 50 mbps MXF files. I downloaded the demo, but I could never get it to work right, because according the MainConcept, it won't install correctly if you have both CS3 and CS4 components installed. Maybe your luck will be better:

  • Why do mxf files crash Adobe Premiere Pro CS5

I can import Sony HD XDCam .mxf files and I can play them and I can edit with them.
But SOME of these files, not all, when played back -  get to the very end of the video file - there will be a slight stutter (in the last second or two of the clip playback)  - then clip ends - then Adobe has a short freeze up (5 seconds) - then a pop up saying Adobe has encountered a problem and must SHUT DOWN. And then it shuts down.
I am importing HD XDCam .mxf files from Sony PDW F350 camera - optical disc.  Audio on four channels mono.  High def files. I can set inputs and outputs before the end of the clips and they do export. But playing back - I get the freeze and the SHUT DOWN... only on certain files. What's up?
Cannot work this way. Thanks for any help.

    Greetings.
    I have Adobe PPro 5.0.3
    Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit
Only certain Sony mxf files will do this: At the end of the video clip - either in source window or from timeline - and I tried it only with video track on time line - at the END of the clip about 1 second from end, there is a stutter stop - then freeze for a few seconds - then a pop up from WINDOWS saying
    Windows is collecting information....
    ADOBE HAS STOPPED WORKING
    Then shut down.
I tried un connecting from the internet, but it still has this problem.
I have Matrox Mini ox2 with Max. Mercury excelleration is on.
Everything seems to be working fine with other clips in the bin and in other projects.
These Sony HD XDCam clips came not from a camera recording - rather from a export file to disc -  at a TV station using AVID Newscutter - and a U1 deck (I believe.)  These mxf files were in AVID - then I exported the files to a HD XDCam Disc - then imported them into my computer into ADOBE.
Perhaps there is a problem with the AVID copy? Or settings?
    Thanks for any help.

I have some GoPro footage in .avi format that won't import to Premiere Pro cs6. Anyone have suggestions?

  • MXF file imports to CS6 with 2 audio tracks

I just installed Pr CS6 and when I drop a Canon MXF file on the time line I get 2 audio tracks instead of one stereo audio track. I assume there is a setting to make.

They are recorded are two mono tracks in the camera. IMO that offers more flexibility than a single stereo track, so I don't even bother, but you can set audio preferences not to use file, but use as stereo or whatever you want.

  • Avi file imports into Premiere CS5.5 but not CS6

I'm trying to move a project from CS5.5 to CS6.   I have several SD avi files that CS6 says can't be imported because they're "damaged or un-supported".   After several experiments I found -
    1) The existing CS5.5 project works fine.
    2) A new CS5.5 project can import the files that fail in CS6.
    3) The files play fine in Windows Media Player.
    4) Removing Media Cache and Preview files had no effect on the issue.
I'm running Premiere 6.0.3 (most recent Cloud version) on 64-bit Windows 7.

  • VOB converted to AVI audio files imported to premiere play in different order than the video files

    Hello there,
I extracted the VOB files from a burned dvd created with Adobe Premiere pro 1.5, I converted the files into AVI files, then I imported it to Premiere CS4. The video sequence on the timeline plays in the correct order but a very fast speed, and the audio sequence plays all the individual clips in a random order, not in the order that they were originally edited in.
What did I do wrong while importing or converting?
    Elio38

    Hi Elio,
What program, or utility did you use to convert the .vob files to .avi, and what was your target codec?  I typically use SUPER Converter, which is free and very versatile, to convert program stream .vob files to a useable format that PPCS4 is compatible with. You can also directly import and edit a .vob file from a DVD in PPCS4 by simply changing the file extension to .mpg. However, doing so will eliminate the audio channel from the video clip in PPCS4.
I was able to recreate what I believe was your issue when I tried converting a .vob file to an .avi file, regardless of what codec I used.  I had no issues what so ever when converting the .vob file to a .mov file using the DV codec, for example.  It could be a bug with PPCS4 because the same .avi file I created with the DV codec played back fine in WMPlayer, and VLC, but played back almost in slow motion in PPCS4.  It might be advantageous for you in the meantime to re-convert the .vob files to .mov files and just choose the standard DV codec.
Remember, you are trying to edit files that are intended for delivery and that were not originally designed to be edited.  Attempting to edit inter-frame formats such as MPEG-2, MPEG-4, FLV, etc...has caused many a headache and even today, are not the easiest to work with.

  • AVI files imported to Premiere Elements 10 are blank. Files can be played using Windows Media.

I am trying to import AVI files to Premiere Elements 10 but they are blank. They show the proper time length for the file but I get no video or audio. When I attempt to import the files directly from my Flip (one of the import options) the files are not even discoverable. I am using Windows XP. Any suggestions?

My wife has a Flip camera, and I do not believe that AVI is what her camera uses (just checked... her Flip saves as .MP4)

  • Canon xf105 mxf files - importing multi channel audio into CC

    Hi there,
We've recently upgraded to CC across our department, and I'm importing footage shot on our Canon XF-105 using the MXF wrapper. In 5.5 I was able to simply drag and drop from the project into the timeline and have both channels of audio recorded there. In CC I can only see the audio recorded with channel 1 and my clip in this instance was plugged into channel 2. Is this something that is known? Am I missing something from the setup of the project?
Thanks in advance for your help!
Anything you need to know about the project or the files, give me a shout!
    Cheers,
    Paul

A lot of things have changed since 5.5.
You need to set up Preferences before importing.
Set Stereo to Mono in Audio / Default Audio Tracks.
Or Modify the audio channels of the clips in the Project Window.

  • AVI file imports into Premiere Elements but not Premiere Pro CS5.5

I tried to import an avi file into Premiere Pro 5.5, only to get the message: "Unsupported format or damaged file." The weird thing is, I have no problem importing the same file into Premiere Elements 1.0 and Premiere Elements 3.0. From the message boards, I somewhat understand that avi is a container and that there are actually 1000s of different formats within that "avi" label. Anyone know why PE is more capable than Pro on this task? Any solutions?
    Geoff.

Well... what is inside that AVI file?
