Gray Bluetooth Icon with 3 dots

In the Menu I have a Gray(grey) Bluetooth Icon with 3 black dots over the top. Bluetooth is working but it takes 20 attempts to get it to pair with my Apple Keyboard and Microsoft BT mouse.
I assume this Gray(grey) Icon is an indicator but it's impossible to find what it means.
The MacBook Pro is 2 days old.
I firmly believe that the set up assistant when transferred settings and applications from my MacPro via firewire was a big mistake. My Airport settings are all screwy too.
Any ideas and feedback are appreciated. Thanks!

Hello V:
The icon you mention indicates that Bluetooth is installed and active. If you click on it, you will see a drop down menu.
I would take the two day old MacBook to an Apple store (if they are near you) or call Applecare and indicate you have a warranty problem.

  • Bluetooth Icon w/3 dots?

I recently noticed my bluetooth icon now has 3 dots across it in the menu bar. What is this? Apple doesn't seam to know. Also my Apple mouse will pair and the button click works, but the pointer won't move. Is this because of 10.4.4 update?

    From http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107679
"B with dots - You see a B icon with three dots through it when Bluetooth is on and a paired Bluetooth device is communicating with your computer."
That means your Bluetooth device is working with the Mac.

  • Bluetooth icon with two rays, what this means?

My bluetooth stops working from time to time on my MB (unibody late 2008), anyway just restarting the MB solves it. Now I'm trying to find why, because restarting is not an option for me.
    So my question is:
I noticed that wen this happened, the bluetooth icon turns to a bluetooth icon with two horizontal little rays (or zigzag lines)
    Technically, what this means?
Also another question, overcharge the USB ports with USB powered devices can make bluetooth stop working this way?
    Thanks

    Yeah,
This has a lot of sense, because this start happening after I added a new USB device that uses almost 500ma. Anyway this new device is connected to a different USB Bus.
    This the distribution:
    USB Bus
    -nio 2|4 (soundcard) 500mA
    -BRCM2046 Hub
    -Bluetooth USB Host Controller <---
    USB Bus
    - Apple Internal Keyboard/Trackpad 40mA
    - IR Reciver 100mA
    USB High-Speed Bus
    USB High-Speed Bus
    - Built-in iSight 500mA
    - USB2.0 Hub
    - ReMOTE SL (MIDI controller) 480mA
    - Launchpad (MIDI controller) 430mA <--- the new device
    Now some questions:
If I use a powered USB hub, it could improve my situation?
If it is possible: turning off USB devices I'm not using, like the IR Receiver and iSight, could improve my situation?
Because this not happens every time I use this configuration, I think it could be related to AC stability problems, do you think an AC NoBreak or Stabilizer can improve my situation?
Last issues (it happens 3 times) was in Israel where AC wasn't too stable and a bit below 220V. Now I'm in Malaga Spain working with a 227V AC supply for more than 48 hours non stop with all devices working, and no signals of any problem.
    Thanks for your help!

  • Error popup im not sure if its to do with firefox , a box appears with a looks like a film icon with several dots in the bottom

i have a persitant error popup whilst on my computer , it looks like a film icon and has several dots in the bottom of it , i have tried to investigate but come up with no solution , when i use firefox to clean my comp there is lots of mgbites for this error message , so i have taken google of and that seems to have stopped the error message in the ccleaner but it still keeps popping up , can anyone solve this for me

First, let me thank you again for your time and attention to my inquiry. I do wish Firefox and the Mozilla community well -- and I would agree that not nearly everyone who has downloaded version 4 has complained.
OTOH, I don't know what your multiplier is -- that is, how many downloaders on average actually having some kind of problem it takes for one of them/us to find it worth her/his time and trouble to input complaints this way. And thousands of messages does also still add up to quite a number of different problems. And my PC is old enough that it is perhaps more susceptible to problems and limitations.
So I have downloaded version 4 -- but I'm not planning to install it immediately . . . not until I have the time and patience accumulated to handle installation and its problems, whether they're teething problems or teasing problems or absolute lockdown/drag-out fights.

  • Gray Box Icon upper right corner?

I have had my phone for 1 year now and now I have this icon that is a small gray rectangualr box with two dots in it to the right of my battery status on my main screen.  Anytime I had a voicemail it had showed up and then I would listen and it would disappear but I have no voicemails and it remains...what is this icon and how do i get rid of it? Thanks!

That does sound like you voice mail indicator. Looks like this one below?
If you have an errant VOICE MAIL waiting icon on your home screen:
    * Call your voice mail and clear the message.
    * Call your BB from another line and leave a message. From you BB, call your voice mail and clear and delete your messages.
    * If the above fails, pull your battery to reset and reboot your BlackBerry.

  • Gray battery icon

My phone has recently begun having a gray battery icon with an exclamation point. I can't figure out what that means.

Mine did that starting a couple of weeks ago and it only got worse and became more constant. After taking it into my local Verizon store them not knowing but thinking that it could be the battery and now calling customer service I have a new Incredible 2. This problem has only happened once now and that was when I switched the battery from the old phone to the new phone and plugged it in. I went ahead and went to Verizon today and bought an extra battery incase the problem occurs again...however, if it doesn't happen again in the next 14 days I will be returning the battery.

  • U310 Energy Management Bluetooth Icon

I recently installed the Lenovo Energy Management program on my U310 to take better care of my battery. Since doing this, I now have this annoying Bluetooth icon with an "X" through it that pops up about twice a minute. This is very distracting and seems unnecessary. If anyone knows how to fix this or turn this off, that would be much appreciated.
Note: I originally had Windows 8 on this system, now I have Windows 7 Professional. I'm not even sure if this system had Bluetooth to begin with, but there is clearly one device my computer has not been able to identify and I wonder if the Bluetooth driver got lost while switching from Windows 8 to Windows 7? Any help is appreciated!

    hi Chellelin 92,
Thanks for using Lenovo Community Forums!
Uninstall the Lenovo Energy Management again from Control Panel / Programs

  • How to enable bluetooth icon in task bar in rmbp with windows 8

The bluetooth icon dose not be showed in task bar in rmbp with windows 8.
The device of bluetooth dose not work correctly in device manager of windows 8 with the yellow exclamation mark.
The windows system event log shows BTHUSB alerts and error with code of 3 and 17. The driver is unloaded.
Some apple magic mouse's functions can work, without sliding to navigate.
The current OS is in bios enumeration mode with MBR and The logged user is in the normal account and the bootcamp is newest.
I have remembered that the bluetooth was good without above problems when the windows 8 was installed firstly and the bootcamp can not work in administrator account. After being restored NVRAM with option+command+p+r and reinstalled windows 8 enterprise 64 completely again, it shows these problems when the bootcamp works well.
Except the first windows installation, the second time is selecting EFI boot and the last time is in normal mode,  which has no difference in the bluetooth problem. In a normal or administrator account,  the same problems appear.

The bluetooth drive problems have disappeared after the following steps:
    reset intel SMC
remove the bluetooth device with yellow mark.
scan system device changes. find 3 devices without any yellow mark: (a) Apple Broadcom Built-in Bluetooth, (b) Microsoft Bluetooth Enumerator, (c) Microsoft Bluetooth LE Enumerator.
find magic mouse and it works well with all functions. and the icon appears in the taskbar.
no BTHUSB error is  in system log.
I don't know the right reasons. Maybe the efi windows installation has changed rmbp efi settings.

Hello, do you have the Install Discs for it?
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    5. Click Repair Disk, (not Repair Permissions). Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)
If perchance you can't find your install Disc, at least try it from the Safe Boot part onward.

  • Mystery Bluetooth Icon

Can someone tell me what it means when the Bluetooth icon in the menu bar shows a gray B with a black "x" on top of it? The pull down shows dimmed "Bluetooth: Not Available" like when the icon is a B with a squiggle over it.
It's not listed in the list on the Apple page:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107679
    MacBook   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

I've had this issue also where I've had the B icon in the top with an X going through it. This has occurred once since I've had the Bluetooth module replaced in April, and the Logic board replaced in May.
After the first repair, I reformatted my harddrive, and ensured that the bluetooth plist had been fully erased off my computer, and rebooted, etc however a few weeks later I noticed that the Bluetooth was failing with the jagged line through the icon, and this was when I wasn't using the Mighty Mouse at all, and it was shut off. This lead to having my logic board replaced.
Now just a few weeks prior to my Apple warranty expiring, I'm having the same issues with the Bluetooth yet again. In the past 10 days I've had the X going through the Bluetooth icon once, and then the broken line go through it several times. This is when my computer is in full use, and not when it's going to sleep/waking up which I've read seems to be one of the causes of this type of failure.
I've gone through all the steps mentioned before the first repair, and needless to say nothing has worked to this point in time. There's no pattern nor method to this madness, and thus I will be contacting Apple to let them know what my scenario is and see what they can do for me.
The only other thing I use my Bluetooth for is my Palm Treo smart phone for syncing however such is a rare occasion as I have a direct sync cable/charger for it and thus find it much faster using the cable rather than bluetooth. I also have no other non-Apple networking peripherals directly attached to my computer.

  • IOS6 bluetooth connection with car stereo

With my iPhone 4S running iOS5, my after-market car stereo bluetooth was able to read my song name, artist name, ect. Now that I upgraded to iOS6 my Kenwood receiver cannot read this data while connected via bluetooth. Since the data can't be read, the steering wheel control to search/skip a song forward or back also no longer works. I tested the car stereo last night with an iOS5 phone and it worked correctly, so I know the problem is related to the bluetooth iOS6.
