Gray Installer Icon

I have no idea what to. I am trying to install a program and the installer fails because it cannot be opened. The installer icon is a gray box that says "exec" on it. And this is how it reads from the DVD which has an ISO extension because it is for mac and pc installs. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

  • HT4623 Unable to update applications installed.Error message "unable to connet iTunes" appears after installation icon hanging

Since last two weeks I am unable to update my applications installed in iPad with iOS 6. Also no new app is getting installed. Installation icon appears but after some time error message "unable to connect iTunes " appears. Can some one guide me to solve this problem please?

I've had similar problems. Whenever I try and update apps on the iPhone, the app would apparently download ok, but then not install. This didn't happen with new apps - only ones I was updating.
I got around the issue by downloading the update in iTunes on my Mac, then deleting the app from the phone, then syncing. The problem with this method is that certain apps had saved settings which are lost when following this method.
However... I seem to have fixed the issue after 2 months of trying.
I followed the advice of this page:
    http://www.iphoneatlas.com/2008/09/10/itunes-8-workaround-for-5002-unknown-error -when-trying-to-update-apps/
Then I repaired disk permissions and finally I completely erased and restored my iPhone BEFORE I synced it after the moving of the Mobile Applications folder.
It's all working perfectly now and made my life much easier (especially with Aurora Feint updates), so I hope that this method works for some others.
    Good luck.

  • What is installer icon that keeps showing up on my desktop?

At startup I have an installer icon that keeps showing up on my desktop.  Get info reveals '/private/tmp/tmpinstallmc.dmg'  Has it happened to anyone else?  I just eject it, not knowing what it's for?

It looks like adware - Genio. Delete it.

  • The big gray volume icon is flashing randomly on my screen VERY often. Annoying!!! Please help me, someone!

Basically, after I installed Yosemite, the big gray volume icon (2" X 2" on a 23" screen) is flashing randomly on my screen VERY often. This is annoying. I have tried all peripherals including the possibility that there is dust/debris in my keyboard buttons. I disabled the keyboard and it still does it. Please help.

If you are correct there is nothing that can be done, I doubt that you are correct.
    Try asking instead of telling.

  • Can no longer use the gray out icon in the Menu bar to update CC

Since I upgraded my Mac OS from 10.9.4 to 10.9.5, I only have a grayed-out icon in the Menu Bar in the Finder for checking for updates. When I try to access it, I only get an endlessly spinning wheel. Any other finding this glitch also? Any cure for it?
I also couldn't find an app which I thought I'd used before called Adobe Updater to check for updates.

I am having the same issue on 10.8.4

As you probably know the Canon plug-in enables Log & Transfer in FCP7. I'm not sure whether it works with Final Cut Express or not.
Look in Applications>Canon Utilities. I'm running 10.6 as well and that is where it's located on my machine.

  • Help -  Installation Icon in Spanish !!

I purchased a Sony e-reader PRS505 for a Christmas present and wanted to download 2 books.  Everything was in English until I had to click on the 'installation' icon which was in Spanish, as were the rest of the download instructions.  I have had no help whatsoever from the "support" team - There seems to be no way to change this to English.  I did manage to download successfully, as I know a little spanish.  Help needed please

Are you asking about Digital Editions or the Sony Ebook Library.  For Digital Editions, the language is determined by your Operating System localization settings.

  • Gray Sidebar Icons, Slow Application File Open/Save in OS-X 10.7

I hate the gray sidebar icons in Mac OS-X. I am a very visual person and every clue, including color, helps. I don't understand why Apple has found it necessary to take a giant step backward in time. Perhaps soon they will reintroduce black and white monitors.
Anyway, I downloaded a pluging that restores colors to the finder windows, but not the application file open/save dialogs. Also, many times the application open/save dialog windows are slow to load the sidebar window; i.e. I can't do anything until they load the the folders, files, and devices available to open.
Does anyone have a fix for this? Does anyone know if Apple plans to restore colored icons?
    Thanks - Bill

    Try rebuilding Finder prefs....
Go to your Finder "Go" menu hold the option key and choose Library. Then go to Preferences folder and trash these files:
    com.apple.finder.plist
    com.apple.sidebarlists.plist
Then, restart, or log out and in again.
(You will have to reset a few finder prefs the way you like them.)
EDIT: Could it be whatever app you're using for the FInder windows that's causing that slowness?

  • How do you remove all the gray exclamation icon songs from the Library?

I've been burning all my CD's to an external hard drive. At some point the location of my iTunes Library switched from the external drive to the local drive. (Any idea why that would happen?) So about half the CD's were imported the the local drive.
So I copied all the music folders from the local drive to the external drive and then deleted the extra copies from the local drive. Now the problem is that those songs are showing up twice in the library! Each song has one listing that's a working version and a second listing with a grey exclamation icon next to, saying it can't locate the song.
How can I delete every song in the library that has the gray exclamation icon?

  • Frozen Gray Apple Icon

I have a 15 inch aluminum G4, it won't start up after the Gray Apple icon. It just freezes. Occasionally there is a ticking sound, I'm guessing HD. Can anyone help. The battery is fine.

I'm afraid your hard drive may be dying. And the fact you have no backup says you are between a rock and a hard place. Try to get Prosoft Data Rescue and an external Firewire hard drive. Prosoft Data Rescue will let you recover anything it may be able to see on the hard disk. If it can't, you'll have to consider taking the machine to a data recovery firm. The scratching may be the result of the head scratching the platter. In the future, it is always wise to backup your data. It is not a question of if hard drives will fail, but when, as my FAQ explains:

  • Gray battery icon

My phone has recently begun having a gray battery icon with an exclamation point. I can't figure out what that means.

Mine did that starting a couple of weeks ago and it only got worse and became more constant. After taking it into my local Verizon store them not knowing but thinking that it could be the battery and now calling customer service I have a new Incredible 2. This problem has only happened once now and that was when I switched the battery from the old phone to the new phone and plugged it in. I went ahead and went to Verizon today and bought an extra battery incase the problem occurs again...however, if it doesn't happen again in the next 14 days I will be returning the battery.

  • Gray Bluetooth Icon with 3 dots

In the Menu I have a Gray(grey) Bluetooth Icon with 3 black dots over the top. Bluetooth is working but it takes 20 attempts to get it to pair with my Apple Keyboard and Microsoft BT mouse.
I assume this Gray(grey) Icon is an indicator but it's impossible to find what it means.
The MacBook Pro is 2 days old.
I firmly believe that the set up assistant when transferred settings and applications from my MacPro via firewire was a big mistake. My Airport settings are all screwy too.
Any ideas and feedback are appreciated. Thanks!

    Hello V:
The icon you mention indicates that Bluetooth is installed and active. If you click on it, you will see a drop down menu.
I would take the two day old MacBook to an Apple store (if they are near you) or call Applecare and indicate you have a warranty problem.

  • I have been getting an unknown installer icon on my desktop.

Sometimes I keep my computer on while I am at work. About a week ago I came home and there was an unknown installer icon on my desktop labeled "Installer." I thought nothing of it and just deleted it. This happened  about four of five days in a row and then it stopped. Today it happened again. When I click on it it just tells me to double click on a package icon. I don't. I just deleted it.
What do you think this is?

You installed one or more of the common types of ad-injection malware. Follow the instructions on this Apple Support page to remove it.
Back up all data before making any changes.
One of the steps in the article is to remove malicious Safari extensions. Do the equivalent in the Chrome and Firefox browsers, if you use either of those. If Safari crashes on launch, skip that step and come back to it after you've done everything else.
If you don't find any of the files or extensions listed, or if removing them doesn't stop the ad injection, ask for further instructions.
Make sure you don't repeat the mistake that led you to install the malware. It may have come from an Internet cesspit such as "Softonic" or "CNET Download." Never visit either of those sites again. You might also have downloaded it from an ad in a page on some other site. The ad would probably have included a large green button labeled "Download" or "Download Now" in white letters. The button is designed to confuse people who intend to download something else on the same page. If you ever download a file that isn't obviously what you expected, delete it immediately.
Malware is also found on websites that traffic in pirated content such as video. If you, or anyone else who uses the computer, visit such sites and follow prompts to install software, you can expect more of the same, and worse, to follow. Never install any software that you downloaded from a bittorrent, or that was downloaded by someone else from an unknown source.
In the Security & Privacy pane of System Preferences, select the General tab. The radio button marked Anywhere  should not be selected. If it is, click the lock icon to unlock the settings, then select one of the other buttons. After that, don't ignore a warning that you are about to run or install an application from an unknown developer.
Still in System Preferences, open the App Store or Software Update pane and check the box marked
Install system data files and security updates
    if it's not already checked.
