Gray Reply Arrow Bug in AppleMail

I use AppleMail to manage my email, and I route a Microsoft Exchange address through AppleMail. When I am in my inbox and reply to an email, Mail does not always put the small gray arrow next to my message to indicate that I've replied to it. The message sends, and I know the person on the other end gets the email, but Mail does not put the gray "reply" arrow next to the message. Sometimes it does do it, but 90% of the time it doesn't.
This is pretty annoying, and causes me to forget which messages I've replied to or not. Anyone know how to correct this bug? Here is a screen shot to show what I mean:
As you can see, it put the gray arrow next to one of the messages, but I've replied to all four, so there should be four of them.

Yes, all the repies in question are from the Mail client on the Mac. When I use my iPad to respond to a message, it indicates on the iPad that I have replied, no problem. The lack of reply arrow only occurs when I reply to a message on my MacBook.
I'm not sure which Exchange email server it is -- it is the service my university uses for student email, so if I had to guess I would say 2010 Exchange, but I don't know for sure/don't know how to check.

  • No reply arrow/icon shown after replying to messages in Mail.

I've seen a number of discussions on this topic but I still have not found a solution.
When I respond to a message in one of my Google Apps (IMAP) accounts, sometimes it will show the reply arrow/icon next to the original message but most times it will not. The other weird part is that it only happens in one specific mailbox. Other than my iCloud mailbox, I have three Google Apps IMAP accounts, but this specific mailbox is the only one that has these inconsistencies. The only time i can get the arrow/icon to show is when i'm replying to one of my other two Google Apps accounts. The message always goes through, it's just that it doesn't show the reply arrow/icon and it's very frustrating to have to go to the sent mailbox everytime just to see if i have responded to a message.
I'm running Mac OSX 10.7.2. and Mail version 5.1
I've already tried the following to no avail:
    Rebuild the maillbox
    ReIndex the entire mail.app
Deleted the cache folder in /Library/Caches/Mail
Deleting the mailbox and readding it
Repaired disk permissions and restarted computer

Try actually opening message and clicking reply icon to respond rather than right clicking on message preview.  I have had same bug (which Apple should fix all the same), but have found that if you open the message as its own discreet window, then the "replied to" icon will appear.  Hope this is helpful

  • Mail w/Exchange 2007 Account- Reply arrow appears, but reply not found

    Hello out there,
I'm really hoping someone can help with this. I have a problem, and it affects all three of the Macs I regularly use: an iMac at home, a MacBook on the road, and and iMac at the office. I have three mail accounts configured identically on all these Macs: Gmail, MobileMe, and an Exchange 2007 account, which uses the Web Services Edition. In short, everything is completely up to date all the way round. Oh, and I also use an iPhone which accesses my Exchange account for mail as well.
My problem is this: I reply to a message in either the MobileMe or the Gmail account and presto, the reply arrow appears and clicking on it instantly reveals my reply. Works as advertised. In the Exchange account, the arrow also appears, and shows up on whichever Mac I happen to be using. However, clicking on the arrow I get a message that says something like "reply not found, you may have deleted it." Which, of course, I haven't. If I search the Exchange account's sent mail folder I find it easily, so I know it's there.
I've tried all kinds of stuff, deleting the plist file, completely removing and reinstalling the Exchange account, rebuilding folders, all to no avail.
Anyone have any ideas? I would really like to resolve this and find it a major flaw, at least as it appears, in Apple's implementation of Exchange server support.
    Thanks in advance!

I have 10.6.3 running on my iMac and the problem still exists - all reply and forward status arrows are basically inert; clicking on they does not show my my reply or forward. I don't believe that there is any preference that affects this behavior so it can only be some kind of bug.

  • Outlook 2011 for Mac - No Reply Arrow When Replying From A Delegated Mailbox

    Hello,
I previously posted this in the 'Outlook for Mac' forum but was asked to move it (http://answers.microsoft.com/thread/d8912456-1e00-4b30-af17-13d150a88ea5).  Perhaps someone here wouldn't mind trying to create the same behaviour in their environment...
Our Outlook for Mac 2011 users open shared mailboxes which they have Full Access to by adding them to their 'People I am a delegate for' list.  The shared mailbox contents appears and the Mac user can reply to emails but the expected purple
    reply arrow is not shown.
Checking the same mailbox in OWA the reply arrow also does not show.
Replying to a message from OWA will create the arrow and this will display in Outlook for Mac though.,
All mailboxes are on a single Exchange 2010 SP3 infrastructure.  We have tested with multiple Macs with multiple mailboxes and all seem to be effected.
Can someone else with a similar setup add a delegated mailbox and confirm that their reply arrow get's created correctly please?
    Thanks, Ryan.

    Hi Ryan,
I suggest double check the permission configuration.
And also check whether the reply button enabled.
    Thanks

  • PE_Adapter status with gray colored arrow in sxmb_moni

    Hi ,
I have one interesting problem to discuss,
We are working in the production system and all archiving and deletion jobs are scheduled on weekly basis.
Scenario is IDOC-->SOAP and BPM is also used. When checking in sxmb_moni the status of message is checkered flag but on the outbound side the status is green with scheduled for outbound processing. and when i display the message PE_ADAPTER's status is not checkered it is a gray colored arrow.and deletion and archiving job have not deleted only these messages. Also when i click on PE in sxmb_moni it doent take me to the BPM process steps it just refers to Inbound Queue.
What i have done so far
    1. There is no entry in SMQ1,SMQ2,SWPR,SWPC,SWWL,SM58 for these messages.
    2. In message monitoring also when i check with the message ID as filtration criteria it is showing successful for integration engine.
How to complete this PE_Adapter step of pipeline.
or is that the case like new message was created for same process in sxmb_moni and the current messages are just to display.?
    Thanks in Advance.

    Hi Krishna,
I have done everything related to queue, deregistering, registering and activating but still no luck, there is nothing in the queue and these messages are two months back. b'coz there status was incomplete , they were not deleted and in sap side Idoc dint get acknowlegement for these messages.

  • Replied Arrow in Mac Mail not synching properly between Macs

    Hi there
We have a mac pro and a macbook both with mac mail. The email account is a gmail account and the two Macs are synchronised by mobileme. I have noticed that the macbook does not show reply arrows on emails replied to on the mac pro and the mac pro shows some reply arrows of that replied to on the macbook but not all.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks, Donna

I signed out of iCloud, deleted every mail account I had added into the mail app on my mac, restarted the mac and signed into iCloud again.
What it did was sync ONLY my iCloud account's mails. My 2 gmail accounts and one hotmail wasn't synced into the mail app. It was strange because under 'Mail, Contacts & Calendars', I could see every one of those accounts, but when I attempted to tick 'Mail', the spinning icon would appear and thats it. It would spin indefinitely.
Doesn't iCloud keep ALL my email accounts seamlessly synced across my devices, and not just the Apple-certified email accounts that end with '@icloud.com'?

  • Reply arrow in message status missing

When you reply a message an arrow appears next to the message indicating mail has not only been read, but replied and if you click that arrow you can view your response.
This usually works fine, but I wrote an e-mail yesterday responding to one I had received and the message was sent, recipient got it, but the "reply arrow" never showed up. Message appears as read, but not as replied and I can not link to the response from the original message.
Is there a way of "linking" two messages (Inbox and Sent) to tell Mail, this e-mail is the response for this other e-mail?
    Thanx in advanced!
    Francisco

I'm wondering if this problem isn't related to the number of messages within a single thread. In Classic Mode, as you suggested, the "replied" arrows appear for individual messages within the same conversation among many people. But in the Lion 10.8.5 OS that groups messages by conversation, then subgroups them by date received, only the most recently received message appears in the column for received messages. If you'd replied to other messages within the same conversation but not to the latest one, then no "replied" arrow appears.
Then I made a key discovery: the grey rectangle displaying the number of messages within that thread is clickable. I had always presumed that the tiny, white arrow pointing to the right was only indicating the right-most column as containing the body of the message. But clicking on the grey rectangle releases a drop-down list of all the names of the participants in the thread. The "replied" arrows display next to each sender's name on that list, if you've sent a reply to their email.
For me, problem solved. I hope that helps someone.

  • If you don't get the 'Replied' arrow after sending?

Does it mean there was a problem sending the email, if the grey, curved arrow doesn't appear next to the message you are replying to (even if the email then appears in your Sent folder)?
Message was edited by: Steve P.

I posted this in response to another matter: [*Little reply icon has stopped showing replies*|http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=11051794#11051794| Little reply icon has stopped showing replies]
but think this is more likely to be my problem. \[NB: using Mail 3.6 (936) \]
If I use the Reply button(s), compose the message and then Send it, the Reply is correctly linked to the original email with the 'little reply (arrow) icon'. I can later click on this icon to directly open its Reply.
If however I Save the Reply (to Drafts) and later resume editing before Sending it, this thread linkage is (irritatingly) not made.
It doesn't seem to matter whether I close the Reply composition window or not, Saving it still loses the linkage between the original email and the reply.
As a result it becomes much more difficult to link up reply threads.
This seems to have been a problem with various versions of Mail from at least OSX 10.5.6

  • Clicking curved reply arrow in status column produces blank message window

I have a bunch of messages in an On My Mac mailbox for which clicking on the curved reply arrow in the status column opens a blank message window with the wrong title. Something has obviously gone wrong with the links.
Is there a way to fix this?

Let it be recorded here that the solution is to quit Mail, remove the "Envelope Index" file from ~/Library/Mail, relaunch Mail and allow it to import all of your mail. The solutions posted elsewhere about rebuilding the sqlite3 database with the "vacuum" parameter aren't sufficient. I've also discovered that changing the return address associated with a particular mail account will break the links between messages and their replies.

  • Mac Mail (Lion) clicking on reply arrow does not open up the reply

In OSX 10.5 in mail, after I have repolied to an email, an arrow appears to the left of the email. When I click on the arrow, it opens up the replied-email. a great feature. Now I have OSX 10.6 (Lion) and the feature does not work.   nothing in the preferences points to that feature. Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks

Thanks Jason, I had the same problem and did exactly the steps above. Problem solved! You rock! :)

  • Why doesn't reply arrow find my reply?

When I click the curly arrow which should take me to the reply that I typed to an email, it tells me what it can't find the reply and that I may have deleted it.
However, when I check in the Sent mail folder, there is my reply. Why can't Mail find it?
I have rebuilt both the InBox and Sent Mail folder, but it still doesn't find it.

    Hi Ernie
Thanks for your replies. I meant to say yesterday too Thanks for the Welcome - I've been here before too, but when I came yesterday I was required to re-register - some change in the forums I guess?
Yes, I did run under Panther, and for some of my mailboxes under Jaguar too.
I've looked in all the various folders in the ~/Library/Mail/ folder and frankly have been puzzled by what I find.
Yes there are other files in some of them, that obviously aren't being used now as the modification dates are not recent, so I'd assumed that the various updates to Mail along the way have made some files redundant. Can these files that aren't either info.plist or the Messages folder be safely deleted?
I also can't see a consistent way that the various folders are setup and named. There are folders outside the Mailboxes folder that seem to be being keptup and current, but they don't seem to match all the accounts, nor the folders in the Mailboxes folder.
For example I have 3 AOL accounts handled by IMAP. In the Mail folder two of them are identified as "[email protected]" and "[email protected]" but there isn't a folder named for my primary AOL name RogerKIWI.
In Mail.app all three IMAP boxes have the same grey world icon, and are similarly named [email protected], [email protected], [email protected] so why aren't the folders in Library/Mail similarly named? Yet apart from the oddities of not always being able to open Replies it does all seem to work.
I've put a screen shot showing the two folders contents here
    http://LisaAndRoger.com/Mailboxes.png
I'm wondering if "starting over" might be the way to go - if I make a duplicate of my Mail folder so everything is saved, what would I need to keep in order to not have to set up my Accounts, Rules and mailbox hierarchy in place, then import the messages into them in the hope that from now on this "show me the reply" button will always work.
Is the information about the Replies kept with each message, or is it kept in a central data file somewhere? What does the "Envelope Index" file keep track of?
    Thanks

  • Where has the Mail Reply Arrow Gone?

Running Mail 4.1 but have no reply/forward arrow on certain emails after answering/sending. Some are there, some are not. However, the answered mail is in my sent mailbox yet I have no arrow to click on to see how/if the mail was handled. Posted about this before but received no replies. Can anybody help?

I have back, front and CD covers for the majority of my iTunes playlists. WHY WHY WHY Apple has somebody decide to get rid of the arrow in the iTunes artwork window to change the artwork? WHY WHY WHY has somebody also decided that you can no longer highlight all the album tracks and drag multiple pieces of artwork onto the artwork window?
Like several aspects of Lion these are backward steps. Please show some respect to the massive amount of work that many of us have done on iTunes and leave things alone!
Dave Jeffs - not sure what you mean about ctrl/click - that does nothing for me - am I missing something? It also doesn't rectify the problem of adding new multiple pieces of artwork to an album.

  • After Mavericks update where is my "replied" arrow & more missing

I have upgraded to Mavericks. I should not have yet - too many bugs. Now, my devices are not syncing (also upgraded to iOS 7 on iPad and iPhone) --
My gmail is not syncing now so when I read an email on my phone, it does not show that i have read it on my iMac. When I go to the email on my iMac, however, I can see the reply email! There is no dimming of the email and no reply-indicator. It looks like a new email. At first, i thought I was imagining things, but now, there'slimited communication between the devices.
Also, now, everything runs VERY slowly on my imac. new pages take 5 full seconds to open an app. Even switiching from one opened tab to another in safari is lablorious and slow.
Finally, Is there ANY WAY TO TURN OFF ANIMATIONS IN MAIL? Wen I reply to an email from viewer, the email "bounces open" and makes me dizzy.
    Any thoughts?

i think you may have just accidentally landed in full screen mode - press the F11 key in order to go back to normal.

  • Why do I have a gray circle arrow thing next to a playlist?

One of my playlists randomly developed a circle arrow thing next to it (gray/white and doesn't move like it is downloading). It is a playlist I saved offline, I uncheck the offline tab and this circle disappears. I click the offline tab and it reappears. I've waited hours for it to disappear thinking maybe it is secretly still downloading or something, but it never goes away. The whole list plays offline fine so I assume it has to have finished downloading. But the annoying little thing won't go away and I have no idea what it is and the internet apparently has no idea what it is either.

Please try clean reinstall. You will have to redownload all your playlists again.
1, Uninstall Spotify from "Programs and Features" in Control Panel
    2. Remove all spotify folders on your PC
    3. Download and run CCleaner, clean and repair your registry.( http://download.cnet.com/CCleaner/ )
    4. Restart your pc.
    3. Install the latest version of spotify.

  • Missing icons (ex: replied arrow) in Message Status when I reply from an iPhone

Hi guys. My problem is very simple.
I've a Macbook Air with Mavericks installed, plus an iPhone and an iPad.
As email account I use Gmail in IMAP mode.
When I reply to an email from iPhone, I do not see the replied icon (arrow) in message status of Mail in Mavericks.
    In iPad all works fine.
I've experienced this issue after upgrade my OS to Mavericks.
And for an "intensive email manager" like me is very boring-problem because I've to remember if you're already replied/formarded to an email or not
    Can anyone help me?
    Best,
    Federico.

    Glad it helped.
Its one of those options that you dont need much but comes in handy sometimes. The only problem is they hide it away so good you forget where it is
