Gray scale photo printing

I have an HP photosmart premier c310a printer and have good results with color photo prints, but I can't seem to get the printer to print my grey scale photos in pure grey scale. They have a color cast to them that ranges from near sepia to slightly purple.
Is there a way to correct this and get clean true grey scale prints. I have tried all the usual stuff like cleaning the printheads, using fresh ink cartridges etc.
I am using Adobe Elements 9 with windows 7 home premium and the printer is setup both wirelessly and with a USB connection. The results are the same regardless of which version of the printer I use.

Thanks for the reply. I checked for proper cartridge venting as you suggested and all were OK.
Since I originally posted this problem, I have tried various thing to see if I could "trick" the printer and force it to print in true grey-scale. The best results I got was to tell the printer that it was printing on plain paper and force grascal printing. I got a reult that was close. Actually using plain paper got me even closer, but  close is not good enough. I had an HP printer before the one I have now which gave me beautiful Grey-scale prints and I assumed that this later generation printer would do even better. Guess I should have stuck with the older one.

    can aperture 3 convert a gray scale photo into a line drawing?

    I have a B.F.A. degree in painting which educated me in the "history of art" with appreciation of the old masters. I agree with your statement that, "anyone mistaking photos converted to "line drawings, watercolors,or paintings" is simply ignorant" and that, "line art is to drawing what clip art is to painting."
    I appreciate your passion and love for keeping "visual creativity" true to its inherant nature. Expressing your views however, in regard to my question in this thread, is irrelevant to the question asked. I am not ignorant.  My question has nothing to do with the philosophy of art. You have no idea what project I have in mind for asking my original question. I suggest that perhaps you have chosen the wrong forum to express your views.  Sticking to the question asked, as the other participants have, has been most helpful to me and I appreciate their response.
    Thanks for your attention.

  • Gray scale photos images are different but should be the same; help?

    I send a gray scale image from Lightroom (Edit with ...) and it opened CS4 photoshop.
    I made a blank document , 11x14".
    I used Windows/arrange/ tile to view the blank and the gray scale image. I tired various methods of bringing the gray scale image to the blank one (move tool, select all and move, copy and paste). Each time, I did this within seconds of each other (I made no changes to fill, opacity, and I used Normal). I brought the image in twice so I could print out the SAME image twice on the larger 11x14 at Sams club in order to use the Epson 7800 printer and not the old wet process on the Fugi machine. One image is darker(lighter) than the other every time. I even tried another image and I got two different exposures.
    I wonder if it it only happens with the grayscale images? Perhaps it is a problem coming from Lightroom 2.5?
    I did a three image 16x20 and I didn't notice the difference - partly because they were three differenct images in color. I will try two color images from the same file tomorrow.
    Any thoughts? I haven't found a possible setting problem that would have been applied between the operations.

    Paulo,
    Thanks. I was ready to believe the monitor idea but I still have some reservations.
    I don't doubt what you said about the pixels (sounds correct to me).
    Why?
    I tried another monitor and the images I attached also look like the top one is darker (vertically).
    Also, the same is true if I scrolled the images. It seems to me that I should see a difference as I slowly scroll the image vertically. I didn't see a difference.
    Read on please.
    At any rate (I long for a CRT - my 21" crapped out last year), I am using  two SAMSUNG screens, the
    one attached to the main computer is the Syncmaster T220 - a well rated
    monitor; as far as I knew , read and had friends who recommended them.
    The other I just tried is attached to the second computer a couple of feet away. It is the syncMaster T240HD.
    So, if it is an LCD monitor problem, it is with both and the same
    company. I would think I would have read some bad reports about these
    LCDs?
    Also, wouldn't the color images also be different when presented the same way? (they aren't).
    However, I went back to the original T220 LCD display and moved an image in to a blank one as before, then did the control J to copy the layer, and the images we different again. But, I zoomed in more than usual and scrolled the images and they were lighter at the bottom of the screen and darker at the top of the screen!!!!!!
    That is good news and bad news! $$$$$$
    If it is the monitor problem, then both images should print as the same.????
    Secondly, the display (LCD) attached to the machine at Sams showed the same difference between the two images. AND, I recall that the display is also a Samsung (I will check that tomorrow).
    What a bunch of coincidences! I guess I have to search the web for some Samsung answers? and contact the company?
    I want to explore as much on my end as possible.
    Hunt and another suggested the Control-J to avoid the problem by copying the layer. That didn't work either.
    I suppose I could tweak one of the images after bringing them in but I don't know how (I clicked the layer and I wasn't able to do anything - like lighten that image).
    Again, thanks for the help. I think the question maybe answered.
    I will send the screen capture shortly.

  • How to capture the gray scale photo

    Hi. I followed this (
    https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/apps/hh202982(v=vs.105).aspx ) example to capture photos and also in gray scale but the sample doesn't capture the gray image, it only pumps the gray pixels to the Image control. How can I freeze these
    pixels in the Image control or capture it as a jpg? Thank you in advance.

    I should have been more clear. Forgive me.  I followed that example and added all the functionality as in the example like the focus(auto and tap), the flash light ect and it works but when it comes to the grayscale: the example only streams the converted
    pixels to the image control. It does not "capture" the image. Somehow I have to stop pumping the grayscaled pixels to the Image control and then I want to save-send the "gray" image. What's the easiest way to do that? This is what I have
    so far:
    MyClient.DownloadStringAsync(new Uri("http://www.iclips.co.za/sign_in.php?username=Clint William Theron&password=k"));
    However, the username and password is empty on the server side. How do I add paramters and download the server's response? Thanks in advance
    I basically want to turn this:
    var values = new List<KeyValuePair<string, string>>
    new KeyValuePair<string, string>("username", un),
    new KeyValuePair<string, string>("password", pw),
    new KeyValuePair<string, string>("friends", friends),
    new KeyValuePair<string, string>("density", "high"),
    new KeyValuePair<string, string>("platform", "Windows Phone"),
    var task = DoPost_Sign_In_To_Server("http://www.iclips.co.za/sign_in.php", values);
    async Task DoPost_Sign_In_To_Server(string url, IEnumerable<KeyValuePair<string, string>> values)
    try
    var httpClient = new HttpClient(new HttpClientHandler());
    HttpResponseMessage response = await httpClient.PostAsync(url, new FormUrlEncodedContent(values));
    response.EnsureSuccessStatusCode();
    var responseString = await response.Content.ReadAsStringAsync();
    this.Dispatcher.BeginInvoke(delegate()
    if (responseString.Trim().StartsWith("Welcome to iClips. You need to delete"))
    MessageBox.Show(responseString);
    return;
    if (responseString.Trim().StartsWith("Welcome to iClips"))
    //this means sign up was succesfull
    //so now we signed in
    txtDebug.Text = "Sign In Successfull :-)";
    vibrator.Start(TimeSpan.FromSeconds(1));
    else
    MessageBox.Show("Network Error: \n" + responseString);
    signForm.Visibility = Visibility.Visible;
    signForm_Shadow.Visibility = Visibility.Visible;
    catch (Exception ex)
    MessageBox.Show("Network Error: \n" + ex.Message.ToString());
    signForm.Visibility = Visibility.Visible;
    signForm_Shadow.Visibility = Visibility.Visible;
    txtDebug.Text = "Try to Sign In >> again.";
    in to WebClient, because of the progress bar that can be bind to WebClient.

  • Black and White Gray Scale Photos Are Dark When Exported from Indesign to PDF

    When I print right from InDesign the black and white photos look great.  However, if I print the exported pdf file, the black and white photos are much darker.  Is there something I should be doing upon export so that they will look as they do in InDesign?
    Thanks,

    I have tried different settings in format and color space all with the same results. I'm sure it has to do with system not being calibrated. I'm not to computer literate so not sure how all this works. The other programs must go along with my computer and moniter settings where LR and Elements produce their own rendering independent of settings. Yes, I checked and Elements renders like LR. I found some other forums that discussed similar problems but with color rendering. HMMM, just tried something. In Picassa I switched to Linear Gamma 2.2 in display mode and the LR edited photos look correct. So it must be something along those lines being the problem.

  • How to print a downloaded color document in black or gray scale

    I have Adobe Reader 9; Windows Vista Home Premium; HP Officejet Pro 8000 Wireless printer.  I have downloaded a document that is pre-set to print in color.  I want to print it in black or gray scale.  I click on the printer icon for the printing pop up.  When I click on the Properties bar to make the request for black or gray scale, nothing happens.  What steps can I take to convert the pre-set color download to be printed in black or gray scale?  Thanks!

    I have only had the experience when I have downloaded a link from within an email to my Hotmail account when the download has already been set up in color.  To date, I have not had that problem with Word.       There are specifically two situations regarding two different monthly emailed newsletters.  This is through Internet Explorer 8; Windows Vista Home Premium.  (I will not use Internet Explorer 9.  It causes blocks for routine procedures, especially involving my Hotmail account--such as not being able initially to download a normal attachment or, if downloaded, not being able to print a normal download attachment.)     However, after I sent out my request for help, I switched to Mozilla Firefox and was able to print the "color" download in black right away because the Preferences bar responded as it should.  (Through Internet Explorer 8, regarding this particular link/download/attachment, the printing pop up had a Properties bar.  However, I am aware that, in some other pop up formats, there are both a Properties bar and a Preferences bar to choose from.)       I have Mozilla Firefox as a backup because, sometimes, I have to resort to it to download email attachments (whether black or color) coming from the east coast when they will not download through Internet Explorer 8.  (I am near the geographic center of the US.)     Thank you for your interest in my concern.  I will gladly accept any advice regarding being able to print an email attachment/link color download in black when using Internet Explorer 8!  Does it depend on how the link attachment is set up or what the link attachment is??

  • I have Mac OS X 10.6.8 and am trying to change a printer to black and white/gray scale. All the posts I find refer to a button for Paper Quality. This does not appear on my options. Just paper handling which does not have a function to change from colour.

    I cannot change the printer settings on my MacBook Pro to gray scale from colour. there is no function for Paper quality, just paper handling. any suggestions greatly appreciated - as long as they work!!

    Was the printer instance properly configured when created, so the print subsystem picked the correct PPD and knows of all the device's capabilities? If in doubt, erase and create anew so you can confirm that the printer maker/model/version is getting correctly identified. This may trigger Software Update to download & install a printer update. The menus available on the print dialog depend on what the OS knows the printer can do. For instance, this is what I get in Safari's print dialog when using an HP 2550Ln color laser at the office:

  • Printing in colour and gray scale

    Can I print page 1 in colour and rest in gray scale in booklet form?

    Hi Michael
    Thank you for your response.  I am using a Toshiba studio2820c and have been printing using Acrobat's booklet function.  I have managed to produce my booklet in the required format by printing and then scanning.  My original in Publisher is greyscale and colour - I wasnt sure how to save to greyscale?  If I could do this it would give me a better finished job as I am printing, scanning and printing.
    Thank you for your help.

  • Color ID doc prints MOST elements in gray scale.

    Please help.  I'm at the end of my rope.  Deadline looming.
    I have an ID document that is ALL color.  When I go to print it, no matter if it's set for ID color management or printer color management, most elements of the page come out in gray scale.  It's a perfect representation of the document, only in grays.  Oddly, there are elements that print in color.  Even weirder, one object from an AI file will print in perfect color, but another object from the same AI file into the same ID doc will print gray.
    Everything is CMYK.  I even use Bridge to control colors between programs.  I cannot figure this out.
    Any advice?
    ps... not sure it matters, but I am printing on an HP cp2025dn.  Windows 7.  CS5.

    Try another printer.

  • Gray scale printing option for Canon C5030 model

    Hello
    Im having a problem on finding the gray scale option for canon c5030 model. I already checked for the color matching setting but no gray scale setting provided. Can someone please help me on this.
    Thanks in advance!

    I have the same printer and network printing is a pain. Canon decided not to include a network specific driver for this printer.
    You can try getting the latest version of the gimp-print drivers. The latest version has better support for ip4300. If it's worth it to you, PrintFab drivers have been working for me but PrintFab isn't free.
    The latest Gimp-print (Gutenprint) drivers are here: http://gimp-print.sourceforge.net/MacOSX.php3
    Hope that helps.

  • Hp Officejet 8000 Set to print Gray scale but still using color

    Hp Officejet 8000 Set to print Gray scale and use only Black ink, Draft Quality, but still using color ink. I'm replacing color ink cart more often the Black. I understand even when set to black only it will still use some color in cleaning and such. but not the amount of color it is using now. Printer has me pissed total waste of money. I'm ready to get my Xerox Phaser solid ink printer fixed. as it was super cheap on ink.

    Hello Lynn,
    Is your network router located near your desktop PC and L7590 officejet?
    If so, I would suggest that you connect the L7590 to the router with an ethernet cable(you can also leave your usb cable connected to the desktop). Then you can connect more directly (still through the network) to the L7590 with your dv7 laptop instead of connecting through the desktop.  Since your dv7 is wirelessly connected to the router, and the L7590 is also connected (wired) to the same router, the setup is much easier.
    If you want to try this, first download the software from hp.com (click here for the download page).  When you run the installation on your dv7 notebook you will be guided through the steps necessary for connecting to the printer via the network.
    Dont forget to reply and let us know how it goes!

  • My gray scales show up in shades of purple and print that way

    My hard drive died and I purchased a new hard drive.  I run Vista Business and have both PS cs3 and PSE.  Both programs show my grayscales as shades of purple.  It also prints as shades of purple.  But I have other photo editing software and it shows grays correctly and prints correctly.
    Does anyone have any suggestions?  It use to work okay before the new hard drive was installed.  None of my other software is acting any differently.
    Thanks much.

    I had (shame on me) purchased PS CS3 from Ebay.  Naturally it was pirated and I reported it to all authorities including Adobe.  I since have purchased PS CS4 directly from Adobe.  I thought the problem would go away, but it hasn't.  My monitor is set correctly, my color profiles are correct according to the Lynda.com sessions and Photoshop help files.  My video card is a Nvidia GE9500GT and I just updated the driver per CS4 instructions, so I am up to date with that.  But my color swatches still appear as shades of purple to the screen.
    I drew a custom black/white/50% gray shape.  The screen shows the shape as a purple shade and it prints pretty good now.  What disconcerning is that the screen shows grays as purples in both my new PS CS4 and now in PS Elements 6.0.  (which it never did before)  None of my other programs for video or photography show grays as purples, only Photoshop programs.  I sent the file to my friend who has PS CS3 and he can see it fine as 50% gray, but I can't.  I am totally baffled and bothered by this.
    Could it be that something in the pirated software didn't clean out of my system totally?  I did the uninstall and then used revo uninstaller to get rid of all remaining registries, but perhaps I need to take PS Elements off and CS4 off and start over again?
    Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.  I have contact Adobe support but they don't answer stating that they have to verify my product. ????
    Thanks much.

  • Lack of EZ Photo Print PRO on the PRO-100 ONLY

    I've been using Canon printers for fifteen years, I think, so this is not so overly picky newbie observation.  For the last five years, iP4300 and 4500's, and a 9000 MK II.  All come with the Easy Photo Print EX, as does the PRO-100 printer.  Way too "EZ" for me, I can just use the built in printer dialogue boxes, thank you very much.
    Not so long ago I discovered the Easy Photo Print PRO, which requires either an Adobe product, or Canon's Digital Photo Professional.   Not having a Canon digital camera, I did find a source to download the original DPP 1.0, then upgraded straight off of an EOS Canon page.
    Very nice!  All of the dialogue boxes into one, or almost one screen.  And what is really worth the price of admission, the "Pattern Print."   What we old wet darkroom types called a "ring around."  Wow!  Fine tune your color profile w/o expensive profiling equipment.
    So yesterday I got a new PRO-100 which added the Print Studio Pro to the DPP.  Of course I check it out.  HORRIBLE!   First, I just HATE this trend of gray text on black backgrounds.  Who thought this *&*^$% up?  Form did not follow function.  Then, all the choices, which seem to be pretty much the same as the EZPP PRO, are packed into a long slider box on the right.  Said sliders are very narrow, very hard to grab and move.
    OK, I'll just no use this and continue with the EZPP PRO, right?  Wrong!  The latter recognizes both the iP4500 and the 9000, but not the PRO-100, while the new PSP sees all three printers.  Upon looking at all the current PRO printers, ONLY the PRo-100 does not list the EZPP PRO as compatible!
    What's up with that, Canon?  This is illogical and really frustrating, especially for a long time Canon fan leading the charge against the Epson lemmings.
    I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the various print programs, nothing changes.
    So at this point, with my PRO-100 I'm forced to either wade through dialogue boxes or find my anger rising with PSP.   The bit of good news is that one can get a "Pattern Print" from Manual Color adjustment, "Print a pattern for color adjustment."
    Rant done.  Awaiting immediate resolution from Canon.  Yeah, right.

    Well, I didn't get into the Adobe, pro/con, did I? I'm such a gentleman. The only way I could hurt myself is to pay a lot of money (which I don't have to spare) for programs that just aren't intuitive to me, to look at those damnable gray print on black backgrounds eyeball breakers, and have the use and control of programs so locked down I can't make a transfer to another machine without a call to Adobe.
    I'm a hobbyist, not in the graphics business, so I have lots of options. Nor do I do things because "everyone" does it, or it was the first program out there (Photoshop.)
    For quick looks at files and simple things, Irfanview. For complete digital asset management, digiKam. Open source, designed by Linux users, is ported to Windows, with maybe 95% good results. If I ever started working with layers and photoshop type manipulations, there's always The Gimp.
    For a po' boy like me, these are all I need and all are free.

  • How convert a color PDF File to black & white (gray scale...no color)

    How convert a color PDF File to black & white (gray scale...no color)??? creative cloud cs6... Acrobat etc

    Hi, just wanted to add my 2¢
    I've been in publishing over 25 years and live in Acrobat for making my final files. Currently with a newspaper.
    This is what we do:
    • Tool Panes > Print Production Window
    • Select CONVERT COLORS
    • Midway down under OUTPUT INTENT, check Convert Colors to Output Intent
    • In the associated drop down menu, I choose (because I'm printing on newsprint) DOT GAIN 20% – If you're working on better stock, choose a lower dot gain percentage.
    • Click OK – this will convert the file
    • Save
    Note: this affects the file you're working with. Make sure that you use this method on a COPY if you want to retain the original color version.
    I think if you compare my method to the Preflight method, you'll see a tighter contrast and better blacks. I've always felt the Preflight method left continuous tones a little muddy.
    Now if there was only a way to add that to ACTIONS...!
