Gray Screen when trying to Play Videos

I can play my music fine but when I go to play a movie I get a gray screen. It locks up and I can't go back to the menu. I have to reset the ipod. The movies play fine when I am in ITunes and my library. I have tried downloading new software. Any suguestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!!

i have the same problem...
to add more to the story...
ive had about 20+ videos in my ipod for over a year, most of which were downloaded from itunes...
havent really used them except while flying, or the rare chance that im not driving on a trip. but while recently trying to play a video, ive noticed the same thing. its a blackish/dark grey screen, that shows the video wants to play...it shows the progress bar, saying its playing one second, then 2 seconds and then it freezes. the ipod is the current version and have reset it and my computer many times. im just about to restore the ipod hoping that solves it. but still have no other ideas as what to do...
oh, and the videos play fine in itunes, all are mp4 or w/e the **** these ipods use as their file types...not .wma

  • Green Screen when trying to play videos in iTunes.

Not sure how do describe my issue. But lately when playing videos though iTunes, they play fine for about 30 seconds and then the screen goes solid green ( http://tinyurl.com/loa5a ), but the sound continues. I've tried multiple videos from episodes of Lost that I've downloaded from the iTunes store to music videos, to video podcasts. None of them are immune to the dreaded green screen. Is this a known issue or something maybe unique to my system?

Anyone have any ideas or need more info, if so please let me know. This is very frustrating.

  • Black Screen When Trying To Play Videos

    Hi,
Until recently I have been able to play movies on my iPod touch but after I restored it, I got a black screen whenever I open the video file. It is the proper format as iTunes accepts it and syncs it to the device. If I touch the play button, it shows the pause button for about a second and stops again. I have restored several times but I still get the same problem. I'm using iOS 4.3.3 and a 4th Gen iPod touch. Here are a couple of screenshots:
If I move the top slider to any time in the movie, it shows that scene as an image on the screen but will never play. Any suggestions?

  • When trying to play videos I get the message "requested URL is not supported on this network" how do I fix this?

I receive the error "requested URL is not supported on this network" when trying to play videos on my iPhone. Can you please advise how to fix this problem?

    Hi,
You will need to re-instal iCal as an optional install from your OSX installer DVDs. Then run the Mac OS X 10.5.8 Combo Update.
    Best wishes

  • I have Windows 8 and get a green screen when trying to view videos

I have Windows 8 and get a totally green screen when trying to watch videos.  Any ideas?

go here with your problematic browser and see if you have flash player installed:  http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/find-version-flash-player.html
if you don't see confirmation that you have the flash player installed, go here and get it:  http://get2.adobe.com/flashplayer/
p.s. untick mcafee unless you're certain you want it.

  • Sound but no Video when trying to play video files - HELP!

I am trying to play video files via Elements Organizer. In this case it is .MOV files. The new screen pops up but all I get is the sound and no video. I have downloaded the newest quicktime player but it did not help. Any ideas?

    Hi,
What happens when you play the same file outside Organizer?

  • Ipod 5gen freezes when trying to play video

My son has a 5th gen 60gb ipod that freezes as soon as he tries to play video on it. This started happening after he installed the latest firmware upgrade. We have deleted the videos, tried reinstalling the latest firmware, reinstalled any number of converted videos, and every time we try it, it freezes up solid. We end up having to use the standard "menu-center button" restart procedure to unfreeze it. Any ideas how to get it to play videos with out completely wiping his ipod clean and starting over with everything?

My problem is similar. My 80G freezes playing video that I converted. These videos used to play just fine. This all started after an upgrade in Dec 07 I think. I have an iphone and the videos play fine and we kjust purchased a 160G and all the videos play perfectly. A huge bummer with the 160G though is that most of the accessories we purchased for the 5th gen don't work with the new classics (ie: Phillips portable DVD/ipod player) - Why did Apple do that?

  • Flash wont work, have current edition, says not enabled but not in file, keep getting update adobe when trying to play video, how do you enable when not on menu?

I have over and over tried to accommodate the update flash message that pops up when trying to view videos, the closest I have gotten is enable in chrome but at that repository adobe isnt there, dont know what to do next, have tried many work throughs and none work, does any body have something? Dell latitude 500 been hotrodded, for speed, linux OS xbuntu 12.04 chrome current all out to date, going crazy have run clam av 0 comeback cant find adobe in any fashion only file in manager or setting but no help there, any ideas?

iDvd is not a general burn utility. However, there's a very good chance (whatever that file is) that Toast will burn it to Dvd-R. And if not (which is unlikely) then do as suggested already and use Mpegstream Clip. It's 100% free! However Mpeg 2 playback component may run you a few bucks (if needed).
Or the alternative is to invest hundreds of dollars in Apple software and use apps like FCP and DVDSP (or FCS) along with QT Pro. Nine times out of ten this combination tends to work well ... but it ain't cheap (not to mention a rather steep learning curve).

  • ITunes 10.6 crashes when trying to play video full screen

I haven't seen this particular issue among others' comments so…
When switching from the normal video window to full screen while watching a podcast in my iTunes library, the program immediately crashes.  I've tried several different podcast, starting with the smaller video window, then trying to expand using the opposing diagonal arrows symbol in the bottom right corner.  The result has been the same.  As soon as I click on that the window screen goes black, and iTunes shuts down.
    I'm on a MacBook Pro 4,1 using OS 10.6.8 and iTunes 10.6 (40).
Meanwhile, hope someone is working on the problem with the clickable scroll bars being inoperable.

Do you have any better luck with that if you update to iTunes 10.6.1.7?
From the notes for the release:
iTunes 10.6.1 provides a number of improvements, including:
    • Fixes several issues that may cause iTunes to unexpectedly quit while playing videos, changing artwork size in Grid view and syncing photos to devices.
    • Addresses an issue where some iTunes interface elements are incorrectly described by VoiceOver and WindowEyes.
    • Fixes a problem where iTunes may become unresponsive while syncing iPod nano or iPod shuffle.
    • Resolves an ordering problem while browsing TV episodes in your iTunes library on Apple TV.

  • Black Screen when trying to view videos that use Flash Player

    Hi all,
Sometimes when I'm trying to view videos on Youtube or BBC iPlayer, which use Flash Player, I'll click play and after around 2-3seconds of the video playing, my screen will go black/dark blue and the audio will stop. I'm then forced to hard reset my computer as no keyboard shortcuts work. This is starting to annoy me. Any help would be appreciated.
I have the latest Catalyst, 12.1, the latest Chipset and BIOS. I have even tried re-installing Windows to no avail. I have also tried uninstalling Adobe Flash Player using your official uninstaller and then re-installing and yet I still get this problem.
    System Specs;
    AMD-FX 4100 Quad Core Processor @ 3.6GHz
    8GB Corsair 1333MHz RAM
    320GB Samsung SpinPoint HDD
    Powercolour Radeon HD 6870 1GB
    ASUS M5A97 PRO Motherboard
    OCZ Fatal1ty 750W PSU

Your video card should be fine for GPU acceleration, but to rule this out can you try disabling hardware acceleration to see if that helps?
How do I disable or enable hardware acceleration?
If this works, please open up a new bug report so we can take a further look.  Here's a page that describes what we'll need.
How do I troubleshoot and report problems with Flash Player Video?
    Thanks,
    Chris

  • Computer completely freezes when trying to play video

When I double-click on the thumbnail of a video to play it, the computer completely freezes, and sometimes the display will get corrupted with noise. I tried exporting a video file to disk, then opening it with Quicktime instead of iPhoto, and the same thing happens. I have cross-posted this question to the Quicktime forum also but I see more people talking about this problem here in iPhoto.

I have since posting this question looked at the OS X Console, and have seen these errors, which sound correlated to my problem of playing video from a variety of cameras, including iPHone 4. I also tested playback on my newer Mac laptop and have no trouble at all.

  • When trying to play video triangle with a line thru it appears

When clicking on a video link in a website some videos dont play,  An arrow with a line thru it appears in the middle of the screen. Anyone know what the issue is?

I believe that it means the video requires flash which the iPad does not support.

  • Why does itunes stop working when trying to play videos?

Itunes gets a microsoft message that it has stopped working and gets a black screen and shuts down itunes.

    Try the following user tip:
