Gray shading border disapears when printing...

I have compiled with hp4laserjet(pcl5) driver. It works perfect.
But if I try to print on another printer (HP 4200n), my light gray shading borders disappears. How come? I have tried to compile with all HP-PCL5 and HP-PCL6 drivers (even Postscript) that there is but with no result. The lines are printed and everything else, Its just the shading that disappears.
The borders are made in Output Design 5.5 with Format Graphics - shading.
Any suggestions?

I think this is "normal". I don't think JTable draws a line on the left side, because usually there is a border where you wouldn't see the line anyway.

  • Trouble with Border Size when Printing

    I am having a great deal of difficulty with border size using PSE 9 and an Epson R800.  I have the latest driver for Windows 7, and still all of my photos come out with a .25" border (or greater if border is checked in the Adobe settings as well) when "borderless" is left unchecked.  I have tried all possible permutations of borderless with an added border, changing print size to trick the program, but cannot get the 3mm (.125") border I am accustomed to. Can anyone figure out what I am doing wrong?  Is a quarter of an inch on a 4x6 print the standard border?
    Thanks in advance
    Gregg

    You must have been using iPhoto 6 the last time as that's not available any more. There are themes now with different border options but no continuously adjustable border width.
    TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
    I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
    Note: There now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • Adjusting border size when printing

    I'm trying to print photos. Last time I did this, I could adjust the size of the image within the given paper size (4x6) with a simple slider control. This made the white border around the picture bigger or smaller accordingly. I'm not finding the slider this time. Has something changed, or have I forgotten how to do that?

  • Gray Dots when printing in Pages/Numbers

    When printing from Pages (v 5.0.1) and Numbers (v 3.0.1), there are tiny gray dots all over the page. How do I get rid of these?

    I have the same problem. It doesn't show dots on screen or when I choose "Open PDF in Preview" from the Print dialog box, but when I print they still appear.
    It also happens with Mail, Numbers and Keynote but not with TextEdit or Preview (unless I exported the document as a PDF from Pages or Numbers).
    It is infuriating.

  • Black ink faded/Gray when printing with HP Envy 5530

    When printing with my new HP Envy 5530 the black ink looks gray or faded.  I tested the color and this prints dark and clear.  I have power cycled, plugged into different power outlets and re-inserted the cartridge.  Any thoughts...or could it just be a "bum" cartridge?
    Thanks in Advance for your help...

    Howdy. After tinkering around with my Envy having the same issue, I found out that after replacing my black cartridge because it was low, I was having the same issue.
    Turns out the color cartridge will simulate a black in an to preserve both the tri color cartridge and the black cartridge for as long as possible, which is why even if you've never printed any color, both your cartridges should be low. Once the color cartridge starts getting low, the printer doesn't have a sensor to realize which of the tri color is mixing in the most, so it continues to mix it in either way.
    I was having this issue where I would print one page and it would be okay and then any page following would slowly look worse.
    Long story short, just print without the color cartridge in and you shouldn't have the issue unless your black is really low. Replacing that should fix it overall though.

    I accepted a update from Modzilla yesterday. After which I had no print abilities. In the preview area it is just blank and when printed the pages are just blank. I had to go back to Internet Explorer to print my work-- it printed fine so it isn't the printer.

  • When a document is a scanned PDF and converted to word some of the words and paragraphs are randomly a shade lighter when printed.  You can (barely) see it on the screen but it is different.  All font and design are the same.  Any suggestions?

    The lighter shading has been a problem when printing the documents.  You can barely see it but it is there????

    Hi Notary,
    I saw something similar with my 4 TB Promise SmartStor NAS after I upgraded to Lion. Only, I had ALL of my iTunes library on the NAS and one day, about a week after the upgrade I finally tried to play music with iTunes, but it kept throwing up an error just like the one you're seeing. I searched around for a while and finally found some steps that fixed the problem.
    I found this solution at another site (can't remember which) that gave credit to this site:
    http://www.alexanderwilde.com/2011/04/os-x-lion-connection-error-with-afp-and-wo rkaround/
    Here are the directions I cut-n-pasted into my little notes file:
    1) Launch the Terminal app
    2) Run this command:
    sudo chmod o+w /Library/Preferences
    3) Run this command:
    defaults write /Library/Preferences/com.apple.AppleShareClient afp_host_prefs_version -int 1
    4) Restart your computer
    5) From Finder, select an AFP server, or use “Connect To…”
         This will cause the AFP Client to create the full preferences file
    6) Launch the Terminal app again
    7) Run this command (all on one line, make sure double-quotes are simply double-quotes from your keyboard, not pasted from the web as up and down quote marks) (yes, some of the spelling looks weird):
    sudo defaults write /Library/Preferences/com.apple.AppleShareClient afp_disabled_uams -array "Cleartxt Passwrd" "MS2.0" "2-Way Randnum exchange"
    8) Run this command:
    sudo chmod o-w /Library/Preferences
    9) Restart your computer
    To disable this hack, run this command (all on one line, make sure double-quotes are simply double-quotes from your keyboard, not pasted from the web as up and down quote marks):
    sudo defaults write /Library/Preferences/com.apple.AppleShareClient afp_disabled_uams -array-add "DHCAST128"
    I hope that helps. If not, sorry for the ludicrous-long reply.

  • How do I prevent the Darker Shade Box (color shift) around Vector Objects when Printing

    Sorry in advance for the novelette. I am absolutely mystified and frustrated and would love some help! I've been working on this problem for about 30 hours over the last 4 days to figure out what the heck is happening and cannot find an answer through various forms of research.
    Basically, when I print a JPEG, I am getting this area (a box) of darker shaded coloring around my heart and love text.  I've tested it a million different ways and am at a loss as to what the problem is ... is it an application problem, a color profile problem between my applications and printer, an improper way that I saved my file, etc.
    Here is a photo I took of the image printed out (so it is slightly skewed from camera distortion):
    The details:
    (1) I create graphic art and sell it online. I save all of my printable art as JPEG files because of my customer base (diy hobbyists that print on their home printers without much knowledge base nor graphic design software).
    (2) I use both Adobe Illustrator (AI) and Photoshop Elements 11 (PSE11) to design and save my artwork.
    (3) I insert JPEG images into Microsoft Word 2003 documents to "test print" since most of my customers use home printers to print. Since most people have this basic software, it is a good gauge of the kind of print out they might get using the same or similar software.
    (4) My PSE11 color profile setting is the default sRGB. I have test printed many times and I get the truest colors with this color profile.
    (5) My AI color settings are normally also an sRGB color mode, but on occasion, I use a CMYK color mode if I am creating a larger document that I know the customer will need to take to a professional printer to print out.
    (6) I do my home printing (for proofs) on an Epson Stylus Photo 1400 (which has the 6 color ink cartridges).
    (7) Until this printing problem occurred on this test print out, I always used the "photo enhance" option when I designate settings for my printer via the Microsoft Word documents.
    IMPORTANT: This is when I have the color shift?? or color rendering issues?? and it is the only time. If I use the regular ICM/ICC color profile of sRGB, the printing issue doesn't occur. Instead, I have a solid color background instead of this one with the strips of lighter color on the top and bottom.  However, I can't control how the customer prints, so I need to feel confident that whatever color profile setting they use, they will not run into this problem.  I even test printed the documents over at FedEx and the darker box/color shift did not occur.
    (8) The document in question only has 3 sets of objects: the heart, the solid colored rectangle colored background and the text.  All 3 objects are vectors, they are at 100% opacity and there are no "special effects" applied.
    (9) The image was entirely created in AI this time and exported as a maximum quality JPEG file, although you will see below that I tried many ways to create and save the file so that I didn't have the color band borders on top/bottom.
    (10) I regularly use AI for part of my art, then I drag it to my PSE11 open document and it becomes a Vector Object (it cannot by copying/pasting into a PSE11 document).  I also regularly export AI images as PNG files, then insert them into an open PSE11 document. This printing issue has not occurred until recently.  Here is an example of a very complex AI image I created, then inserted into PSE11 just to add the background (the Teddy Bear and books are AI vector objects) that were exported as PNG files then inserted into PSE11 to integrate with the background image - I test printed with Photo Enhance and had no printing issues:
    So, from the research I have done, it looks like it is a color rendering or color space issue with conflicting color profiles in the same document. I checked my color profile settings and both sRGB and CMYK were set to embed ICC color profiles.
    I tried changing AI settings to Preserve Numbers (ignore linked profiles) for CMYK, but that didn't work.
    I also checked and made sure that not only the document setup showed the sRGB color profile, but that all the objects within the document also were converted to sRGB as well for consistency. That didn't work.
    I tried converting the document to CMYK along with the vector objects. That didn't work.
    I tried saving the heart image as a PNG file alone, the "love" text as a PNG file alone, both the heart and text together as a PNG files alone. Once saved as PNG files, I inserted them into an open empty PSE11 document - as I normally do. I then added the background color I wanted. That didn't work - the print still showed the color changes.
    I tried dragging each vector object separately and even as a group and got the same color change issue when printing.
    I tried "expanding" and "outlining" the text before exporting as JPEG, before exporting as a PNG and before dragging as a vector object into PSE11. Expanding the text did not help the situation.
    I tried exporting as Adobe PDF, then opening in PSE11, then resaving as JPEG. That didn't work.
    I tried flattening transparency (even though there is no transparency in the AI file). That didn't work.
    I tried rasterizing the image. That didn't work.
    Thinking that the file might be corrupt, I started from scratch and redesigned the same heart and love text.  Unfortunately, I had the same problem as before.  At this point, my AI started becoming buggy and would not open new files. It happened repeatedly and I decided it was best to uninstall and reinstall AI (and maybe that would fix the problem).
    I created just the heart in AI, then inserted it into an open PSE11 document (both after exporting as PNG and also by dragging as Vector Object from AI). It seemed to work. I could both drag the vector into PSE11 from AI and export from AI as a PNG, then insert into open PSE11 document with a background color - and it printed a solid background.
    So, I thought that reinstalling and setting back to defaults worked. But, then I added the love text around the heart and tried exporting as JPEG files and the same problem continued to recur. Whether I dragged as a Vector object into PSE11 (the heart object and love text separately and also another time with the vector objects dragged as a group) or saved them as PNG files and inserted into PSE11 - I got the different shades of color on what should be a solid background. I even tried saving the PSE11 as a PSD file first, then resaving as JPEG and I tried saving as PNG and printing and this didn't help solve the problem.
    I really think it is some color conflict issue but I can't figure it out. I am definitely not very knowledgeable about color profiles and how to sync all my devices, however, as I mentioned, this was not an issue until recently (and I think??? I recall changing the CMYK setting from Preserve Numbers to embed color profile a month or so ago - however, it should have been solved when AI went back to its defaults upon reinstall).
    The reason I believe it is a color rendering/color space issue is because I could see the color output when I saved the JPEG with CMYK color profile versus sRGB color profile and the sRGB colors were much richer, not surprisingly. The top and bottom colors matched the sRGB printout and the middle darker box section matched the CMYK printout.
    I am sure it is something fundamental or simple and I am completely overlooking it.  I wish it were just a transparency issue, because people know how to fix or do workarounds for it. But, there are no vector objects with any transparency ...
    If I missed some detail, I apologize. Any help would be a dream come true at this point! lol
    Thank you!

    Okay, I got motivated to try again.  From doing a bit more research on troubleshooting AI printing problems, the Adobe article talks about print drivers. It was advised to uninstall and reinstall the print driver if the printing issue persists. So, I did. Unfortunately, I still had the same result after reinstalling and trying a test print! Ugh.
    So, as Jacob said upfront, I seem to have an overactive print driver that is trying too hard (and it is a non-postscript printer which I realize is part of the problem).
    There are so many variables in my situation as to how I create art and save/export art. I sometimes work solely in AI, sometimes solely in PSE and sometimes I use both programs to create. Consequently, I will:
    (1) export directly from AI as JPEG if I am not adding PSE11 artwork.
    (2) export directly from AI as PNG  if I plan on inserting that image into PSE11 to add to artwork I have created in PSE11.
    (3) drag vector objects as a Smart Objects directly from AI to PSE11 to add to artwork I am creating in PSE11 if I know I will playing with the vector object and resizing in PSE11.
    So, I did a test print using scenario 2, where I inserted the heart and love text PNG (AI created vector object) into an old PSE11 document. This old document already had a vector object from AI with a solid background and I knew it printed correctly. So, after inserting this new PNG from AI into this old document, it printed correctly using the photo enhance mode.
    However, I haven't had a chance to actually create new art in the older AI files (that I know print properly), resave as something else and try another test print (either by exporting as JPEG and printing in Word or by exporting as PNG file and inserting into PSE11 document, then saving as JPEG and printing in Word).
    After testing the different possibilities of ICM settings within my printer, I found that the JPEG images printed out with the truest colors and best quality if I simply selected "no color management" from the printer. Shocker, huh? lol
    MY SOLUTION: So, what I think I will simply do is add an instruction sheet with the printables I sell, explaining that the color profile setting should never be handled by the printer so make sure to turn off color management by printer (and if they feel they must use the printer for color management, make sure the setting is sRGB since I embed that color profile in my JPEG's).
    Edited to add: Since my issue was never about how I could print a successful image (I knew I could simply change the color profile settings), but rather about how to make sure that customers would get consistent and high quality print outputs of my digital images, this seems like the best approach.
    I don't think I will every really know exactly why I am now getting color shifts in the "photo enhance" mode when I did not have this problem a couple months ago - applying the same methods of creating artwork. I was concerned that I was saving/exporting using incorrect or mismatched color settings or something of that nature.  However, since I went through the process of making my color spaces the same for everything, and I still have issue, clearly that is not the culprit. The only thing I can do to solve the problem and it is a straightforward solution anyway -> is to educate the buyer on how to print successfully (don't use photo enhance! ha ha).
    Thanks again to everyone who chimed in and offered advice!

  • Problem with page breaks in IE when printing to PDF

    Hey,
    I am having formatting issues with IE when printing to pdf, I have a dynamically created report which has page breaks at the end of each page, if I open this report(report is in html) in firefox and goto print the formatting is correct, if I open the same report in IE and print the report 80% of the pagebreaks are in tact, 20% are ignored which just makes the report look rubbish, my question is,( I know it not directly related to the reader but was unsure on which forum to post) is there a different css or formatting I should use to make IE play ball.

  • Anyone know why Adobe X & Adobe XI Crashes my shared network printer driver when printing a PDF

    Anyone know why Adobe X & Adobe XI Crashes my shared network printer driver when printing on a domain, this only happens when I print a PDF.
    I then have to restart the print spooler to get my printouts sent to the printer. I am using a Windows 7 32 & 64 bit environment on a domain. Users who aren't on the domain experience no issues and their printer drivers remain online and not grayed out.
    When I print a PDF using Foxit Reader or Nitro PDF then all works fine, the moment I open a PDF using Adobe Reader X or XI then the shared network printer driver bombs out and I am back restarting the print spooler. If we roll back to Adobe 9 then we dont have any issues.
    When you create a local printer driver all works fine, the problem is we don't encourage local printer drivers due to security.
    We use Ricoh printer drivers, the MPC5501 PCL5C, driver version 1.2.0.0 with PDK version 12.65. We have also tried the PCL6 printer driver and Universal printer driver. All give the same result. The printer uses Winiprint Print processor using RAW as the default data type.
    We have contacted Adobe Global Support who advised that they cannot assist with this query as this is on a Domain environment and we have to contact our IT Department.
    We would really appreciate some professional help here to get a fix for this issue in order to address potential future occurance's

  • How to change the background of a JPanel when printing?

    I have a JPanel that has a background color of gray when displayed on the screen. I would like to change the background to white when printing but leave it gray on the screen. I am calling setBackground(), clearRect() and fillRect() but it still prints out with the gray background. Any thoughts on what method I could call to change this?
    public int print(Graphics g, PageFormat pf, int pageIndex) throws PrinterException {
    if (pageIndex >= 1) {
    return Printable.NO_SUCH_PAGE;
    double pageHeight = pf.getImageableHeight();
    double pageWidth = pf.getImageableWidth();
    Graphics2D g2 = (Graphics2D) g;
    g2.setBackground(Color.white);
    g2.clearRect((int)pageWidth/2, (int)pageHeight/2, (int)pageWidth, (int)pageHeight);
    g2.fillRect((int)pageWidth/2, (int)pageHeight/2, (int)pageWidth, (int)pageHeight);
    paint(g2);

    From reading the doc, it appears that you have to change the background color of the Component:
    setBackground
    public abstract void setBackground(Color color)
    Sets the background color for the Graphics2D context. The background color is used for clearing a region. When a Graphics2D is constructed for a Component, the background color is inherited from the Component. Setting the background color in the Graphics2D context only affects the subsequent clearRect calls and not the background color of the Component. To change the background of the Component, use appropriate methods of the Component.
    Parameters:
    color - the background color that isused in subsequent calls to clearRect

  • Problems with color matching when printing...

         Hi, I work for a small family business in the P.O.P. industry.  We currently have myself and one other designer, we both take illustrator files that have come from the graphic design firm that we contract with and get them ready to print on our Vutek QS3200.  However ever since acquiring the printer we have begun to run into problems with the colors when printing.  When the files are exported off of my computer, I use either .tif or .pdf files, they print as they should, the colors seem to match the proof and everything goes smoothly.  However when the other designer exports a file, he tends to do mainly pdfs, the colors tend to be extremely different from where we want them.  Also we will get very strange results, such as yesterday he kept getting a faint yellow 1/2" border around his prints.  After I believe 3+ hours of him trying, I was given the original CD and instructed to try.  After 15-20 minutes of making the changes that we needed to make (adding a new price point) and ripping, mine printed perfectly.
         We both use Macs, both have CS3 Design standard, only differences between the computers are mine is newer and a bit faster, and I'm running OS 10.5.6 and he has 10.4.  He has also at some point loaded various color profiles, whereas my CS package is just whatever the default is when I loaded it.  When we were being trained he grabbed the color profile off of the Colorburst RIP server and loaded onto his computer, plus I believe he has a couple for freelancing purposes on there as well.  My thought is that these profiles are somehow corrupting the files that are going through that computer, but I honestly am lost with it at the moment.  He believes the problem lies within the fact that he does not have the newer OS, I honestly cannot see that as having any effect on this at all.  I was wondering if anyone has run into any similar problems, or if anyone might have any advice on this issue?  I would really like to be able to solve this, as I was hired to do mainly structural design for the P.O.P. and I'm having to put in a lot of overtime to get my work done along with the additional work that I'm having to do.
    Thanks for your time

    I've got a few years experience calibrating large format printers.  First, the Yellow sounds like a file problem.  I used to work with two workstations, one PC ( RIP station ), and one Mac ( file prep station ).  I tend to agree with you in that the OS is probably not the problem.  But, any Colorburst profiles should remain in the RIP, not in the originator application.  My workflow consisted of creating EPS files that were based on established color settings in their given applications ( i.e., Illustrator, Photoshop ) which were interpreted by the RIP which had it's own calibrated profile ( perhaps more than one based on how many different substrates were being used ).  Your partner may be complicating things by incorporating a RIP profile prematurely.  If there are deviations big enough to be noticed, there has to be something in the application color settings that is causing some type of corruption.  This could lead back to the operating system, but I would think it lies somewhere in Bridge or the application color settings.  Start there.  You should seriously consider implementing a calibration system if you do not have one already.  Another slight possibility is the driver's ability to interpret files coming out of Leopard vs. files coming out of Tiger.  It may benefit you both to be in the same operating system dynamics, using the same driver versions and RIP profiles.  At the very least, match everything that is currently working successfully and put them on both machines.  If there is still a noticeable problem in color matching, then something is seriously wrong and you should call in a prepress profiling expert.  Hope this helps.

  • Printing problems, black mark appears on document when printing using auto portrait/landscape

    As the title says, pdf is fine on screen but when printing using auto portrait/landscape a black mark appears on the screen as in the photos below
    when the orientation is selected the line disapears and the print works correctly
    Anyone have any idea why this would happen?
    Thanks
    Ben

    Hello Pelle,
    Thanks for the feedback. Our printing code in Adobe Reader Touch doesn't have that capability right now, but since you mention it we should probably do what you're requesting by default. I'll put that into our backlog for a future update, but I can't say yet when it will be available.
    In the interim, if you have pages that are different orientations, you can print them in blocks manually to get what you want, but I understand that's a hassle.

  • Not clear text when printing JTextField

    I print (laser/inkjet printing) a panel with multiple JTextFields setting background of both panel and textfield to white and border to null. The problem is that the letters on paper do not apear clear but digitized. (I use Arial font). I have implemented a class to handle the print of a class of type of JPanel but not of JTextField. Is this the problem? Can you suggest a class that implements the print of JTextFIelds which are inside of a JPanel?
    Thank you in advance

    Hi Dimitar, thanks for your replies. I'm using 2048M, when I do File -> Print, I can see I have 464 pages in my diagram, and I can see all boxes, relations, and text also, no problem, everything shows on the screen.
    The issue comes when I either print to file or send to the printer, the text is missing in both cases, the printer here in the office has 4G of memory, there does not seem to be a problem or delay when printing, it just comes out with no text; the Mac laptop I'm using has 8G of memory. I was scaling the pages to get a smaller number of pages printed, but I followed your advice and did not scale down, left it at 100%, with same results. I'm wondering if this is something related to Mac OS X 10.6 ?
    Thanks.
