Gray Spots on Backplate of Ipod Touch 4G

I got an Ipod Touch 4g for christmas about a year ago, and ever since I started using the Griffen Reveal case, Ive started to notice gray spots (sort of like burn marks) appear all over the backplate of the Ipod Touch. Is it the case?, and how do I fix this? Thanks!

I believe the back is polished stainless steel and not 'chrome'.
This is what the manual says about cleaning:
To clean iPod touch, unplug all cables and turn off iPod touch (press and hold the Sleep/ Wake button, then slide the onscreen slider). Then use a soft, slightly damp, lintfree cloth. Avoid getting moisture in openings. Don’t use window cleaners, household cleaners, aerosol sprays, solvents, alcohol, ammonia, or abrasives to clean iPod touch.

  • Grayed Out Wi-Fi On iPod Touch That Says "No Wi-Fi"

Okay my iPod Touch has been doing this for awhile now. It's been off and on. . .It's like a terrible relationship ._. that you just can't get out of!!! I have restored my iPod SO many times, I've lost count. I was on my Facebook app messaging one of my friends and BAM, I had no Wi-Fi connection. So I went to my settings and I tapped the Wi-Fi button. It was loading, trying to find a close by Network and it was taking FOREVER. I plugged it up to my computer, click on iTunes, and restored it. When it was done restoring, I went to the settings again because I'd noticed that there was still no Wi-Fi symbol. . . and guess what? It said "No Wi-Fi" and it was grayed out. So I restored it over and over again. Finally, I got so frustrated that I got off of my computer and gave up. So I went back on a few days later and tried to restore it again and then I had Wi-Fi again. I was really excited. Then a few hours later it did it again. I haven't missed any updates or anything... so what's going on?!!!?!?!?!?!!??!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!? I'M.SICK.OF.THIS. HELP!!!!!!

Not a good sign.  It is usually caused by a hardware problem. You can try the troubleshooting here before you make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

  • Replacing backplate on IPOD Touch 2

Don't know what category to place this question. But will the Apple Store replace a back plate on an IPOD Touch 2? I don't want the engraving there anymore and want to get a new IPOD.

I would simply delete all music from the iPod and then redownload via iTunes Match
You cant' sync with Match on:
Syncing music with iTunes will be disabled while iTunes Match is enabled on your iOS device.

    Hi Dave,
Does the iPod have any accidental damage or abuse?
Do you see the spot when the iPod is powered off or resetting?
It looks like the iPod needs hardware repair, you can make a reservation to have a Genius at a local Apple retail store replace it or call AppleCare.

  • Just upgraded to ios 6 and newest itunes (first time for  4g ipod touch I've had for years).  After the restore, it no longer syncs when plugged in. My music is in itunes, but won't sync to my ipod.

Please help.  I finally gave in to updating software because my apps wouldn't update without io5.  I ensured all of my music and apps and pictures were listed on  my iTunes so that when it restored it would all sync back.  Well, my ipod is restored, and my pictures are moved over, but my apps are not.  I guess I can go and re-install individually, but what is the purpose of having them on iTunes??  Also, NONE of my  music is on my ipod and there does not seem to be a way to move it from iTunes.
Also, at the top right of iTunes where it has the spots for Library and iPod Touch.  If I click on the iPod, the icon just disappears!  iTunes used to have a column on the left side that listed my ipod and I could move things to it (like my music).  Is this how the new version is or am I just missing something?
I am so frustrated right now after spending hours....

    Ignore.  I figured it out:)

  • HOW THE **** DO I DELETE A DOWNLOADING APP ON MY IPOD TOUCH?!?!?

Recently my friend's son went on my ipod touch, he played a few games then saw an advertisment for Tap Pet Shop and Tap Zoo and he wanted to play them so he downloaded the apps. This morning i found these 2 grayed out apps on my ipod touch, i've tried deleting them via holding down the app for 5 seconds then waiting for the X but there was no X, i tried to delete the apps by downloading them through the computer then deleting the download through itunes but i can't do that either, it's taking up space on my ipod touch. It ridiculous and i want to know how to delete them now. I've already had a look on these forums for a answers and i have tried all of these solutions, but none of them work at all.

  • IPod Touch Gen 1 large gray spot on screen

I was given my uncles old iPod touch and it has a large gray spot on the screen about the size of my thumb and i have tried pretty much everything and it wont budge but after not using it for a few days it has now moved a good quuarter of a inch to the right. Am i out of luck or is it possible to repair this without making my wallet cry?

Without more information like a photos, it could be a defect in the one of the screens/glasses. It could also be something between the outer cover glass and LCD screen.
Since you have iOS 3.1.3 that likely means a 1G iPod. It would be too expensive to have someone fix the iPod based on the capability of the 1G.
You can try fixing it yourself.

I am also having the exact same problem, I have no idea how to get rid of them, I even tried scratching the marks off with a knife, doesn't work. The problem started after I started using the Griffen Reveal case for my ipod touch 4g. Should I send it to Apple to have it fixed?

  • My iPad 2 picks up very weak wifi signal, but my iPod touch 5 in the same spot picks up super strong signal. What can I do to change this?

I have an iPad 2 and am iPod touch 5. Yesterday, my iPad all of the sudden did not want to pick up ANY signal at all in my house. It's like it completely give up on wifi, while my iPod and my laptop works just fine in the same spot. (I have an upstairs bedroom, while the router is downstairs in the kitchen).
So I have been trying yesterday to get it to work so what I have done is completely wipe the memory clean after I backed it up on iTunes. After resetting it, I restored it. Still nothing. So I tried to take my iPad down nearer to the wifi router, and OMG it picked up the wifi signal! WHUT?!? It didn't yesterday though...
But now whenever I am up in my bedroom, my iPad would not pick up the wifi at all, or if it did, the wifi would be super duper weak! But two days ago, it was PERFECTLY okay! My iPod and laptop that is sitting right next to the iPad up in my bedroom pick up the signal completely fine.
Can someone help me? What should I do? Is it problems with my iPad or would it be my router that is the problem?

    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

  • Ipod touch with gray screen???

I accidently put my Ipod touch in the washing machine and I put it in rice like most people say to do, waited a couple days, plugged it into my laptop, the screen lit up (Didn't show the usual earth background or time at all) the screen kept changing colors then it became different shades gray and I could see some spot that I think are water but not sure. My friend said I should just wait, should I?

If your ipod shows try and restore it, its a long shot but worth a chance. As well apple ships back ipods made with "New and/or Refurbished parts" but there is no difference really between refurbs and new ipods, just technicalities.

  • New iPod Touch with grayed-out "No Wi-Fi" text in Settings

Just got a 16GB iPod Touch as a refurb. from Apple Store. I install iTunes, hook it up to my computer, follow all the instructions, and then after it's charged, disconnect it to begin using it.
First thing I do: try to set up the wi-fi. Only problem: I go into Settings and at the top, where it says "Wi-Fi" it is grayed out, and says "No Wi-Fi" next to it. In the About section, it says "N/A" for MAC address.
I have turned the unit off and on, performed a soft reset, a full restore through iTunes, and even paid the $4.95 to upgrade the OS to 3.1.2, thinking that version 2.x might be the problem.
Still... no Wi-Fi. According to Apple's site, refurbs are supposed to be fully tested and brought back up to factory spec before being shipped out. What hhappened to THIS unit? How'd it make it from China to my porch without anyone at Apple ever turning it on to see if the wireless chip in it even works?
Now I've got to go through the hassle and delay of exchanging it and waiting for the replacement to come in the mail from half a world away. Here's an idea, Apple... sell refurbished stuff that works with the guarantee that if it doesn't work or if it's defective, the customer is guaranteed a brand new unit as a replacement. Maybe that will light the fire under the techs to make sure they don't send out broken equipment as "Apple Certified."

I completed the instructions in the linked knowledge base article. It did not fix the problem. Apple has agreed to replace the unit after I ship it back to them. I will now have to wait another week before another refurbished unit arrives from half-way around the world...
I think my problem with this whole thing is that Apple specifically touts the fact that refurbished units sold through their online store are extensively tested and will work like a brand new unit. Obviously nobody even turned this unit on and went to the basic "About" screen in Settings to see if wireless was working. They would have caught the problem right away.
This is a check that should have taken 5 seconds for a technician to perform and would have saved me the disappointment of having the first iPod I've ever owned be a lemon... and saved me another week of waiting for a gizmo that I had expected to be using already. Don't sell Apple Certified refurbished stuff unless you're going to actually turn it on and make sure it works!
My other complaint... the rubber seal between screen and metal case is bulging out at two corners. It looks shoddy and cheap. I don't know who worked on this particular unit, or if this is par for the course with Apple. If the next one looks shoddy too, or has any problems, it will be my last time trying to get an Apple iPod. I got refurbished since I don't have much money - and I just can't justify spending the amount they charge for a new one. One more try Apple...

  • My grandson deleted all the data from his ipod touch . all he gets when he turns it on is a gray screen and an apple logo. Our computer no longer recognizes the ipod nor does itunes, Help.

My grandson delted all data from his ipod touch {thinking he was deleting his songs.] Now all he gets when he turns it on is a gray screen with an apple logo. We do not have it backed up nor was it ever turned on to itunes. We purchased it used from a co worker and didnt get that far.. Our computers do not recognise it as any thing nor does itunes when we have it plugged into itunes. Any way to fix this? Apple support will remote into our computer to fix it. For $ 99.00. Well needless to say he used all his savings to buy the ipod so ......  Any free ideas??

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • Wi-fi on iPod touch is grayed out

After restoring factory settings to my 3rd generation iPod touch, the wi-fi was grayed out along with iCloud, email, twitter, navigation, etc. I'm in the process of restoring it again and hopefully the newest update of 5.1.1 will fix the problem.

    Try here:

It is frequently a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.
