Grayed audio timeline track

What does it mean when the light gray overlay appears over portions of an audio timeline track? Not the heavily dimmed "disabled" mode, nor the crosshatched "lock". Playback not affected and I've been unable to find an explanation in the manual. I'd appreciate knowing what it indicates and how to get rid of it (if I need to). Thanks.

Sorry, but I can't do the screenshot at the moment, Tom. It's just a light gray over portions of the audio track, as if one had overlayed a translucent frosted piece of plastic over the normally saturated color of the track bars. It appears over certain audio cuts, which have no other distinctions that I'm aware of, being all of the same source, with portions edited out. It's not the heavily dimmed disable mode, I checked that. I'm getting ready to export, so I'm concerned whether this is worth being concerned about.

I don't think so. I've started an audio book and I'm doing chapter long segments (assuming I can make simple corrections, such as ones made in iMovie and numerous other video editing programs. Routine edits in GB are simple and intuitive. I cannot wrap my mind around the fact that I'm prevented from doing a simple drag and drop, import or paste a two-sentence audio clip. Nor can I find any reference to straightforward audio elements.
Any suggestions you might have would be appreciated.

Audio timeline - Cannot adjust mp3 or m2t on certain tracks in CS4 ?

Hi folks,
Proud new owner of CS4 and love it except that I'm in real dire straits with the audio timeline, particularly specified tracks.
Own a Canon XH A1 and imported HDV as m2t files via HDVsplit. Nothing new there and don't think it matters anyway... But when I drag just audio onto the timeline, I cannot adjust it at all. Meaning, if I use the 'Selection Tool (V)', once audio is placed in timeline it is unselectable. Even more strange, I can only select it if I use the 'Track Select Tool (A)', but even then my only option is to delete or move it (plus everything else following it on the same selected timeline). Anyone know what is happening?
Even more strange is that some clips will fall into a different track in the timeline and be selectable, but everything in another audio track on the timeline is not selectable. I cannot even right-click on such a track in the timeline.
This is driving me crazy, I can't find any information on this on forums or on Google... Is it just me?!!

Hi again,
I just answered my own question after messing around with it for a third day! Just in case anyone else comes across this too, it's a matter of clicking on the keyframes on the track header and choosing 'show clip volume' or 'show clip keyframes' and not 'show track keyframes' or 'show track volume' as then you won't be able to do anything with the clips dragged onto the timetime (except change overall track)...
It sounds so obvious to me now, but it had me fooled long enough to go searching everywhere for help.

How to adjust volume on Audio Timelines

A couple questions about volume adjustment on the various Audio Timelines on Premiere Pro CS 5.
1) How to adjust volume level of an mp3 on the Audio 2 timeline?
2) How to adjust or mute volume of an 'individual' video clip on the Video 1 and Audio 1 timeline? (I have many clips on the timeline and know how to mute them all, but in this case, I'm looking to only mute certain clips in the timeline.)

Along with the material covered in the Help File, that Ann linked to, see this ARTICLE. It goes into a little more detail on the differences between Clip Keyframes and Track Keyframes (generated with Audio Mixer). While the effect of those can be the same, there are nuances, that one should make note of.

M-AUDIO Fast Track Ultra with Final Cut 7

I have been using an M-Audio Fast Track Ultra device with Final Cut 6 and could listen to Quicktime 5.1 audio files in the timeline in full surround. Since I installed the Studio 3 upgrade with Final Cut 7 (same OSX version), this is not working anymore. I just have stereo output. When I start my backup version of Final Cut 6, it still work fine.
Any clue how to fix this in Final Cut 7 ?

The 5.1 audio preset was already selected in the setting and each of the 6 audio tracks is assign to the proper speaker. It was the same set-up in the v6 but it was working which is not the case in the v7. There might be a new setting somewhere.

Audio Timeline Pen tool quirk

When I use the pen tool to place a point on the audio timeline, normally I just put the point on one track and FCP will place the pen point on both audio tracks in the same place. However sometimes it will only place it on the track that I actually clicked on, not both, so I have to also click on the other audio track.
I have been told that this is a sequence setting somewhere, but the answer is always "I can't remember exactly where it is." But that has to be the case as I have had projects with many sequences and most will work fine, then I go to another and run into this. What's even more bizarre is I'm not making any changes to the settings when I run into this.

It depends on your settings. You can change how FCP interprets the clips. Read up on 'stereo pairs' and how to toggle that on/off.

I need help I have the m audio m track plus and working out of logic studio 9 and it comes up but I have no sound, but I can here it using garageband. How do I get it to work with logic studio?

How do I use my M Audio M track Plus with the logic pro 9 software? It works with garageband, but I am not getting anything out of Logic. It does show up on list as option and I have done all of the sound preferences to M audio, etc. etc. Please help

In fact I also subscribed to Stanford's lectures and despite actually managing to DL them there is still no subscription in iTunes U, just the Intro to Computer Science belatedly.

ITunes wont recognise Audio CD Track format files (No answer in Archive)

I have a 60GB iPod. Have downloaded the latest iTunes and iPod drives. I usually copy all songs on a spare removable mass storage disk drive, and then add the entire folder made up of hundreds and hundreds of songs.
Now. All songs with MPEG format, and the ones that already have names somewhat, as long as it is not named with Track, do get recognized and get applied in iPod. But no songs named Track and a serial number, that is in Audio CD Track format do. They get instantly copied, as they are 1KB each, both in CD and where they are copied. But nothing more than that happens. It wont be played in Windows Media Player neither. I renamed it from Track to anything else, thinking perhaps in an attempt to keep files organised iTunes deliberatly doesnt recognizes them, but that didnt worked also. The songs can be played from the CD, but arent recognized when they are copied on a disk.
How do I put the songs named Track with Audio CD Track format on my iPod. Thanks in advance.

Mac mini does not recognize M-Audio Fast Track Pro device.

I recently installed M-Audio Fast Track Pro with the latest driver for (10.9.2). I'm running the OSX mavericks 10.9.2. The installation succeed but once i connected the device and turn it on, my mac does not recognized it and it shows "device not connected" at the system preferences under the M-Audio fast track icon. i tried reinstalled the driver, tried the checking audio midi setup setting (which is still undetected) and tried installed it at my friend's pc (the device works fine).

I just checked to see if the update to OS X Yosemite 10.10.1 solved any of the issues outlined in my previous post, and to my dismay, nothing has changed -- all of the previous problems persist.
My iMac (8) -- it's renamed itself eight times since the recent troubleshoot with the Apple tech rep -- shows up as a shared device in Finder on my MacBook Pro, but when I click on it, I cannot establish a connection using "Connect As". So I've attempted to connect using the menu "Go/Connect to Server...", using both (alternately) the iMac's name and IP address, to no avail. I get a message which reads: "There was a problem connecting to the server 'Peter's iMac (8)'. This server may not exist or it is unavailable at this time. Check the server name or IP address, check your network connection, and then try again."
Here's what I know:
The server -- Peter's iMac (8) does exist;
The server -- Peter's iMac (8) is available at this time;
The server name -- Peter's iMac (8) -- is correct, as specified in the system sharing preferences;
The server IP address is correct, as specified in the system sharing preferences;
The network connection is active when I attempt to connect.
I'm convinced the problems stem directly from the OS X Yosemite update. None of this was ever remotely an issue in the previous OS X's -- any of them. This is maddening! What can be done? Apple?? Anyone???

Can't get sound when using M-Audio Fast Track

I'm using Logic Express 8 and just purchased the M-Audio Fast Track Pro interface so I can plug in my guitar and mic to Logic. I downloaded the driver, the device shows up in Logic, I can even record with it, but I can't hear anything on playback! Not only can't I hear the Fast Track, but I can't hear any of my other (software) tracks either. I can't input monitor at all. But, as soon as I unplug the device, suddenly all my tracks are audible again (including recordings that I make through the device). What's going on? I need to be able to hear what I'm doing!

Go in to Audio midi setup and make sure the default input and output are the M-audio devise ... if you have not done so already .

Extract Audio Narration Track from Keynote with Voice Over

I just found a way to extract the audio narration track from a keynote I recorded using the voice over feature.
I used BetterZip.
I right-clicked on my keynote to show the "Open With..." contextual menu. I had the keynote open with BetterZip instead of Keynote and it extracted all the elements of the presentation into a folder. I saw in there several audio tracks.
Now, Keynote did not split the audio tracks into individual slide snippets but that's better than any other technique I have read on this forum so far.
I hope this helps someone in the future.

If you save your Keynotes as a package, then you can right click and +Show Package Content+ and see all the files that make up your Keynote as well. To save your Keynotes as a package go to Preferences and click +Save new documents as packages.+

Can't hear audio on tracks three and four

Hi,
I'm new to FCP 5. When I go the the audio mix window I can see the audio for tracks 3 and 4, i just can't listen to it. I checked my general settings under real time audio mixing and it says 8 tracks. I don't have any other applications up. Any ideas?
I should also mention that when I turn off tracks 1 and 2 I still can't hear the other tracks
Dual 2GB G5 Mac OS X (10.4.2)

First, check the simple things .. like are those 2 tracks muted? Are both tracks enabled?
Do FCP's meters indicate that there IS audio there? What happens if you load either of those tracks into the Viewer - can you hear them? What happens if you move the clips on those tracks up to track 1 & 2?

Does anyone have any information on when the m audio fast track will support mountain lion?

i have just got the latest 13" macbook pro and it came with mountain lion pre installed, in janurary i bought a brand new m-audio fast track audio interface as i saw it was available in the apple store and still is. however apple must be unaware they are selling a product that is not compatable with any of the computers available in the store as the drivers for the interface have not been released( there is one but it doesn't work and isn't the offical driver). m-audio were sold by avid earlier this year and the fast track i have is seeminly still avids problem despite m-audio being sold(so m-audio told me) and avid do not respond to any emails or tweets i have sent them. i tried to sort the issue out with apple customer care but they could provide no answers for me. i am now left with a usless audio interface, and appartantly(according to who i talked to on the phone) lion can't be installed on this model as it won't function correctly, not that i want to have to downgrade my operating system just for the use of an audio interface. so does anyone know whats going on?

M-Audio Fast Track and Drivers used

I recently buyed a sound card USB M-Audio Fast Track (the last one) and plugged it in my macbook late 2009 running OSX Mountain Lion.
Everything seems to be ok (sound works fine, but i prefer sound from my embedded sound card from the macbook, it doesn't clip like the fast track that i find a bit sensible) but i've installed "drivers" that was on the CD with the package of the sound card.
So my question is: what is this F****** driver ? what is installed on my mac ? i don't want ASIO or other driver , i just want my coreAudio and i can't see what was installed except a button in system pref that allow me to select 13 or 24 bit.
Do you think installer has installed ASIO drivers on my mac ? or just the control pannel for the bit level ?
i should never put this CD in my mac ... can you help me ?

When I say that sound is clipping it's beacause of my beat in garageband that is too strong, but with the headphone out i don't hear clips, i just see them in the track while with the fast track i hear them ...
I'm now reassured if you can tell me that the software installation in the CD doesn't touch my OSX drivers even if M-audio name this "Drivers install" on their site.
So, if i understand it's just the sys-pref button to switch 16-24 bits that is added ? nothing else.
How can i see if other drivers have been installed ?
