Grayed out mail settings

I just changed an old pop mac.com account over to a new imap account. Now i have some items under account information grayed out. incoming mail server and user name is correct but grayed out. Also under the account name i have a button that says edit alias. Why is that there? There are no aliases only a me.com account that is older and can get mail from mac.com as well.

My current exchange account is grayed out in settings making it impossible to add another account or delete the current one.  In addition, the current account often reports that an email did not download or that a message cannot be moved to trash. With the account grayed I am finding it difficult to change anything.

The "always allow" button is grayed out in settings regarding cookies, and I can not find where to change the setting.  (Restrictions are not on.)  Do you know where I go to change the setting to allow me to "always allow" cookies?

    Hi lisaarnett111,
If you are having issues turning on Always Allow for cookies in Safari on your iPad, you may want to check to make sure that you don't have Private Browsing enabled, as noted in the following article:
Turn Private Browsing on or off on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

  • Bought 5s this morning. sales person could not get touch id to work and said I could do it later. Fingerprints is grayed out in settings. Help!

Unable to activate touch id on new 5s.Could not do it the Verizon store this morning and sales person suggested I do it later. Fingerprint is grayed out in settings. Any advice?

You have to have a passcode enabled first.  I was having trouble with this as well but I figured it out.  I think it's because you will need the passcode to modify the fingerprint settings.  Y'know, for security.

  • "No Wi-Fi" - Grayed Out in Settings - iPhone 3G

I realize similar topics have been discussed, but I can't pinpoint this to a specific OS update- it's my wife's iPhone, and she didn't even realize it had stopped working. The option is grayed out in the settings, and no combination of resetting the network settings, hard resets, updates, or complete restores has fixed the issue.
Is there a way to figure out if this is, in fact, a hardware problem? How would I know what to replace?
    Thanks.

I also have the same issue.
It happens when the phone was upgraded to 4.0.1
I sent my 3G to provider and they said that it is a hardware problem. Anyway since my iphone it is not under warranty they do not replace the phone.
Trying to fix the problem I restored the phone twice yesterday. In both cases the wifi worked perfectly only for a few moments and then it was lost permanently.
Please try to report the issue in: http://bugreport.apple.com/
I got an email from Apple Bug Reporter today that asks me to attach my device log to the bug report. Device logs can be retrieved from the iPhone Configuration Utility.
For the history, I restored twice the iphone today and the wifi is dead. Particularly after the second restore the sign in settings for the first time turns into grey: "No Wi-Fi"

  • Wi-Fi Button is grayed-out in Settings section

They Wi-Fi button in the Settings area is grayed out and says "No Wi-Fi".
I cannot select the Wi-Fi button to change anything. It seams to be dead!
    Is it?
Thanks in advance for your help.

If you did a Restore and still no joy, time for a trip to your Apple store for possible replacement.

  • Grayed out Mail - can't launch!

I created a new user account to share my machine with a friend. The process went swimmingly until we tried to open Mail. A pane appeared requesting: Full Name-Email address-Incoming Mail Server-Account Type (POP)-User Name-Password-Outgoing Mail Server.
Having successfully created a Gmail Account for my friend, we entered all the information required in the above pane.
For our trouble, we got the interminable dreaded spinning beach-ball.
Hoping to go around this roadblock, we went to Mail menu > Preferences and discovered Preferences was grayed out. We were defeated, couldn't figure out how to launch Mail!
    Need some heavy duty help.

Got it! Went to View menu and chose "SHOW Deleted Messages", and it went away.

  • Wi-Fi is grayed out in Settings. Does not change with a full restore.

After charging my iPad 1, 3G it started with a message to do a full restore. After restoring with a mac and loading all current software it will not access the wi-fi. In the settings panel it is gray and says "No Wi-Fi" next to the Wi-Fi Icon in the settings panel and the "Network" tab in "General". I went to the "Reset" tab and "Rest Network Settings"  and did a reset there.  Still no luck. Went to the Geek Squad (only support open on a holiday), and the guy called over the other guy and said, "Have you ever seen this before?" They also tried to look it up online and sent me away with "You better call Apple on this one."  Any ideas? (And of course it is 1 yr and 3 months old.)

This is what Apple says about your issue.
    Resolution
If you encounter this issue, try the following steps and attempt to enable Wi-Fi or Bluetooth after each one.
Verify that Airplane Mode is turned off.
Update your iOS device to the latest version of iOS.
Reset Network Settings. To do this, tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings
Restore your iOS device in iTunes.
If you are still unable to turn Wi-Fi or Bluetooth on or off after attempting these steps, contact Apple or your wireless carrier for additional assistance.
    I copied it from here.

I restarted my iphone 4s and now my wifi is grayed out in settings. I didn't update it or anything. It is running ios 7.0.6. What can I do?

If these don't work you probably have a hardware problem. Visit an Apple store for an evaluation or contact Apple Support.

I recently changed my aol password and right after I changed, I cannot get mail.  I get a a pop up block that says, Cannot Get Mail, the user name or password for AOL is incorrect, settings, OK.  I go to settings as suggested but the account area is grayed out and will not let me open.  Need help on how to fix this problem.  I tried sync with my PC and that did not help either.

It sounds like you might need to contact Yahoo! if you aren't able to setup your email account as a new account after deleting it.

  • New iPod Touch with grayed-out "No Wi-Fi" text in Settings

Just got a 16GB iPod Touch as a refurb. from Apple Store. I install iTunes, hook it up to my computer, follow all the instructions, and then after it's charged, disconnect it to begin using it.
First thing I do: try to set up the wi-fi. Only problem: I go into Settings and at the top, where it says "Wi-Fi" it is grayed out, and says "No Wi-Fi" next to it. In the About section, it says "N/A" for MAC address.
I have turned the unit off and on, performed a soft reset, a full restore through iTunes, and even paid the $4.95 to upgrade the OS to 3.1.2, thinking that version 2.x might be the problem.
Still... no Wi-Fi. According to Apple's site, refurbs are supposed to be fully tested and brought back up to factory spec before being shipped out. What hhappened to THIS unit? How'd it make it from China to my porch without anyone at Apple ever turning it on to see if the wireless chip in it even works?
Now I've got to go through the hassle and delay of exchanging it and waiting for the replacement to come in the mail from half a world away. Here's an idea, Apple... sell refurbished stuff that works with the guarantee that if it doesn't work or if it's defective, the customer is guaranteed a brand new unit as a replacement. Maybe that will light the fire under the techs to make sure they don't send out broken equipment as "Apple Certified."

I completed the instructions in the linked knowledge base article. It did not fix the problem. Apple has agreed to replace the unit after I ship it back to them. I will now have to wait another week before another refurbished unit arrives from half-way around the world...
I think my problem with this whole thing is that Apple specifically touts the fact that refurbished units sold through their online store are extensively tested and will work like a brand new unit. Obviously nobody even turned this unit on and went to the basic "About" screen in Settings to see if wireless was working. They would have caught the problem right away.
This is a check that should have taken 5 seconds for a technician to perform and would have saved me the disappointment of having the first iPod I've ever owned be a lemon... and saved me another week of waiting for a gizmo that I had expected to be using already. Don't sell Apple Certified refurbished stuff unless you're going to actually turn it on and make sure it works!
My other complaint... the rubber seal between screen and metal case is bulging out at two corners. It looks shoddy and cheap. I don't know who worked on this particular unit, or if this is par for the course with Apple. If the next one looks shoddy too, or has any problems, it will be my last time trying to get an Apple iPod. I got refurbished since I don't have much money - and I just can't justify spending the amount they charge for a new one. One more try Apple...

Trying to configure my iCloud email using Mail in OSX10.7.5   and in the settings the field for incoming mail is grayed out, yet every time I try to save to exit that window, it gives me an error message that it needs an incoming mail server.  Can't enter it because I can't get into the field, which is showing po2-imap.mail.me.com     Any thoughts on how to remedy?

I tried this and it entered the same info that was there and the incoming mail server field is still grayed out and I still get the "The incoming mail server cannot be empty" message when I go to exit the iCloud account window.
