Grayed out music on itunes for mini

The shuffle is working fine.
The mini however is recognized but all of the music is grayed out. Not the normal black fonts
How do I access the music so I can change what is on it?
This is my kids so he could have done anything
Thanks
John

Your mini is most likely set to Auto-sync. Go to preferences in itunes while your mini is connected, and set the ipod to manually update. That should do the trick.

  • Why is the Device Backup grayed out in my iTunes File menu?

I am searching for a way to Backup my iPod Classic, but the Device Backup is grayed out in my iTunes File menu? My iTunes is running on a 64 bit Windows 7 Machine. Has this been covered in a Discussion that I haven't found yet?  My iTunes works fine on this 64 bit Machine so far.  Any help would be appreciated.

Just select the Image trace panel from the window menu and then customize it.

  • I got a new iPhone 5 and my itunes music will not sync properly. it will show up on the phone but it is light gray wording and they are not selected only a few songs work. The grayed out music just takes up space. Someone please help.

My itunes music is grayed out and unplayable on my new iphone 5. only a few songs work and the rest just take up space. They will play correctly in my itunes on the computer but not the phone. Please help.

I am so relieved to hear that I am not the only one experiencing this! However, I am sorry to hear you are going through this as well. Lucky for me I am upgrading to a 5s which will be sent to me on Wednesday. I did stumble upon an article with tips on how to downgrade back to iOS 7, but I am EXTREMELY apprehensive about doing that myself. Here's the article link if you want to give it a go:

  • Grayed out songs on iTunes despite "Manage music and videos manually" being checked.

I had to restore my iPod, and when I synced it after the restore, the songs were gone on my iPod like it is supposed to be, but on iTunes they are still there but grayed out. I have already done the "manage music and videos manually" thing, I delete all of the grayed out songs and try to add the songs from my library back to my iPod, but they are still grayed out. Please help if you can, I would greatly appreciate it.

I don't use manually manage so I'm at a loss as to why anyone would.
However, if I was Syncing my iPod to iTunes, then the picture you have posted would be just like that while iTunes was busy putting my music back onto my iPod. That's what the little double-arrow icon means; it's a list of files that you have asked to be put on the iPod (in my case, by Syncing the ticked items in my Library and in yours - apparently, by manually dragging them from the library to the iPod).
As each file is successfully added to the iPod, the progress arrows icon disappears and the song (file) name is no longer greyed out.

  • Yet another user with "grayed-out" music

I've recently switched to new mac. I guess i didn't sync iphone properly because all my music is grayed-out and not on my mac. none of it's itunes purchased, it's all non-replaceable non drm recordings. where did they go? why can't i play it through itunes when i connect my iphone? is mac really that user-friendly?! seriously, any help would be much appreciated.

    Hey thanks, Turingtest2.
This is probably the wrong place to address the grayed out symbols.
A screenshot isn’t even essential to describing the phenomenon: Its the gray dashed circle symbol alongside the playlist
& the tunes themselves may be grayed out. As though it needs to stream or download. The symbology is fairly new & I haven’t found an explanation or key, which should be my first plan of attack.
The music now grayed out USED to be on the iPad/iPod devices & most, if not all were purchased via iTunes. A few may have some off my own disks. Also, I used to keep some music files in AIFF on an older gen iPod & I don’t think those are well supported on iOS, if at all any more.
Perhaps that’s part of the picture.
Background: I was trying to pare down an overburdened iPad that had all sorts of odd bits of music - stuff I broke up to learn to play the passages & myriad other audio files off recorders, etc that really are just storage on my mac, but were inadvertently copied to the mobile device. Anyway, the iPad is nearly maxed & cleaning the library to just selected music.
I also see that other people are experiencing issues similar to mine & right or wrong, attributing it to a glitch in iTunes 12 & the iOS.
Its really not pertinent to this old thread, I suppose. I have a slightly more detailed post of my own on the forum as well. I stumbled on this thread while trying to research similar complaints & missed the origination date.

  • I bought new music on itunes for th first ime in years and the updates erased all my music from my ipod and none of the new music that I bought was downloaded...a bunch of stuff I never heard of is now on my ipod. How do I reload my library?

I went to itunes for the 1st time in years and bought music. The updates removed all the songs on my ipod and did not downlaod my purchases. Instead I have a bunch of songs I never heard of. How do I reload my library on my ipod and get rid of the terrible junk that is on there now?

Was this a different computer/iTunes library than what it you had originally sync the iPod with?  If so, that would explain why all of your content that WAS on your iPod was erased, since an iPod can only be synced with one iTunes library at a time.
As for your current predicament, you'll need to figure out how your iPod is configured to sync music and then adjust it so that the stuff you don't want on it is removed during the next sync operation and the music you DO want on it will be transferred over to it from iTunes.

  • Grayed out music

I just got a new computer and all my previously purchased music on iTunes is grayed out and the cloud icon is in constant motion. How do I fix this to make the music available? Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks!

    Thanks gdmacguy,
    Yes to answer your question.
As it turned out I had to check manual upload,  then I had to unplug the phone and retry it.
    Thanks.

  • Apple TV plays music from Itunes for 1 second only

The Apple TV sees all my music from Itunes and I can select any of the tracks but when I play one the music only plays for 1 second before stopping.  Sometimes I'll hear the 1 second of music, sometimes not.  I've reset all of my settings on the Apple TV.  Music plays from Itunes out of my laptop when I have the device set to computer. If I select Apple TV as the device, the song wont play and just hangs, but on the television bottom left corner it will show the track information as though it was going to play for one second before it changes to a blank treble clef image labled "untitled".  Any ideas?

If I play it from the ATV Menu : The Apple TV sees all my music from Itunes and I can select any of the tracks.  When I play a track the music plays for 1 second and then stops.  Sometimes I'll hear the 1 second of music, sometimes not.
If I play it from Itunes via airplay : The song wont play at all and just hangs, but on the bottom left corner  of the TV (that the apple tv is connected to) it will show the track information (Album image + song name) as though it was going to play, but one second later it changes the track information to a blank note image labled "untitled" and no music.

  • How to fix grayed out songs in Itunes that are supposed to be matched with Itunes Match!

I have deleted a few songs that have the cloud symbol in Itunes Match; however, they are now grayed out and I can't play them from the cloud or download them.  Can anyone offer any ideas?  I was doing this to test whether it is matching correctly and now the songs are listed with the cloud symbol and down arrow in Itunes; however, they are unable to be played (they are just gray).  Please help!

iTunes has a feature that drops leading articles (a/an/the and regional equivalents) for sorting purposes. This enables "The Beatles" to be sorted under B instead of T, a converntion that most people are used to. The greyed out text shows this current autosort value. If you delete the text it will be regenerated. If you try to put in something like a space you will interfere with the proper action of the sort. However you can put "The Beatles" in if you really want them sorted under T. It is important to use sorting values consistently and not not try to give different things the same sort value as this causes problems. You can hide the column if you have no need to review the information in it.

  • Best way to arrange music in iTunes for Shuffle & Nano

I have a Shuffle and just ordered a Nano. With the Shuffle iTunes simply puts all songs on the iPod. I want to create playlists for my Nano and put all songs in a playlist. How can I arrange the songs where they don't all load when I connect the Shuffle? I guess my question is, for those of you with both what's the best way to arrange music on iTunes?

You'll probably want to create separate playlists for your Shuffle and for your Nano and then set iTunes to sync only selected playlists to the Nano. Or set it to manual management and just drag to the Nano whatever content you want.
    Regards.

  • If I purchased music on itunes for my ipod do I have to purchase them again for my iphone?

I have purchased itunes for my ipod and I wanted to download them on my iphone. I was able to download them but it charged me again for the same ones. Can download them on iphone without being charged agiab?

    Hi,
Firstly make sure you have iOS 5.0 or above on your iPhone.
Then make sure the iPhone is using that same account that you have purchased those song with.
To do this go to Settings > Store and check the email address at the bottom of the screen.
If you have all these ok, then just open the iTunes app and select the "purchased" category at the bottom of the screen and you will be given the fully list of all your purchased music ready for you to redownload without being charged.
(when a song is selected you are given an option to "download the full album" if you have purchased it already)
    Hope this helps.

  • I have bought music on itunes for my ipod can i copy them to my ipod nano

How can you copy music bought on itunes for my ipod onto a new ipod nano that i have bought

Open iTunes and plug in your iPod. On the left sidebar there should be your iPod name (If you can't find the sidebar, go to iTunes menu bar, under View, select Show Sidebar), go to your iTunes playlist and drag the songs you want to your iPod. For all of the songs, go to your iPod music library, even if you don't have songs, and on the bottom there should be a blue-ish bar. There might be a box saying "Autofill from iTunes library" click that ONLY if you want ALL songs from your iTunes to your iPod.

  • Separating apps/music in iTunes for 2 different apple id's

I've had an iPhone for a few years and I recently got my daughter an iPod. She has her own email account for facetime/texting but I originally signed her in with my apple id.  She's been downloading free apps to her ipod and I've been entering my apple id password for her.  Now I want to keep our things separate...meaning I don't want her games or music and I don't need her to have my random apps. I just signed myself off her ipod and signed her in using her apple id, but when I plug each device into my pc, it shows all the same apps regardless of the device I plug in.
Is there a way to separate us???  Even if I have to delete all of the apps she downloaded from my id and start all over, I would do that, but I need to know how to make itunes recognize her as a separate user with separate music and apps going forward.
Hope that made sense, and if anybody can help, please be specific (as in step 1, do this, step 2, do that.....etc) !!  I see alot of short and sweet answers but I can't make sense of them!!! Many thanks!

I'm trying to follow the instructions for creating a separate iTunes Library but I'm making a big mess of it. I got through steps 1-6 just fine, but step 7 needs to be explained to me in greater detail.  Here's what I need to do....My daughter has some apps that she downloaded.  That is all I need to move to her library.  When I click on Add File to Library or Add Folder to Library, I'm a little confused on what to do next.  I tried copy and pasting from my original library to her new one, but now when I try to open iTunes while holding the shift button so I can select he new library and sync her iPod, it won't open.  Any input would be great!!!!  Thank you...

  • HT1338 I have new IPHONE MINI - From my MAC, it says I need to update to 10.6.8 in order to update my ITUNES for MINI.  Can I update online?  Do I have to purchase and wait for delivery or perform online?

I purchased IPAD MINI for my daughter.  To properly register the new MINI, it says to update ITUNES. However, in order to update ITUNES, I need to update my software to 10.6.8.
Can I do so over the net or do I have to purchase and wait?

You can purchase OS X 10.6 from the online Apple store by calling them, which in the US is at 800-MY-APPLE or you can buy it online here.  After you receive it, install it, run Software Update until there are no more updates, at which point you'll be at OS X 10.6.8 and can install iTunes 10.7. Note your system needs a minimum of 1GB of memory to run OS X 10.6.8.

  • How do I get rid of the cloud icon out of my iTunes for Windows!!

Hey, my request is really simple. I own no Apple products anymore and I'm down to using just one Apple product and now I have updated to the latest iTunes which I now regret hecause my podcast list was so much neater and simpler. I can't remove my old podcasts from my view as this cloud thingy has appeared. Can someone help me remove this icon and return to normal please? If it's not possible then I need to know and then I say farewell to Apple and hello to ANYTHING that can manage my podcasts and music without a cloud symbol. Please help.

Well, there is a way to do the similler.
    By creating smartplaylist for podcast.
My iTunes language is not English, and for mac. so keyword can be little bit different from yours.
    but
    make smart play list as
    + 'Media Kind' as 'Podcast'
*if you want specific subscription then +album
*if you want un played list only, then + 'play count' as 0
then you'll see the list just in your computer.
anyway I'm not sure why the **** smart playlist of podcast cannot be shuffle.
