Grayscale printing RBG

I work in the creative department for a newspaper. We currently use ID4 for the layout of ads and Quark 6 for the layout of news pages. We're having issues with grayscale ads printing RGB in our newspaper. When the ads are built within ID, each element is grayscale. The ad is then exported as a grayscale eps and imported into Quark.
This doesn't happen with every grayscale ad on a color spread. It's very random. All of our computers are calibrated with the same settings. Has anyone had similar issues? or can anyone point me in the direction to figuring out what's going on?

Nobody around here is fond of .eps. First thing is to be sure you aren't doing some sort of color conversion during the export -- ID doesn't support grayscale profiles and treats grayscale images as if they are on the black plate of the current CMYK space.
Second thing is whay use the .eps? Have you tried putting PDFs into Quark? I know there are some CID encoded font problems, but I don't think they would be eliminated by using the .eps format if you are in fact using Unicode extended characters (though I could be mistaken about that). I'd probably print to PDF rather than export in this particular circumstance, and start with the PDF/X-1-a preset.

  • Composite grayscale printing option in Illustrator?

Why is there no composite grayscale printing option in Illustrator? I see it in Acrobat and Indesign. There are times we need to print grayscale composites to check layout and content.
Besides converting all colors to grayscale, I see no way to simply print grayscale out of Illustrator. Am I missing something?
    Thanks.

Although there is no direct "Grayscale" option, you can try specifying a Printer Profile in Color Management tab of Print dialog to Gray profile to get the grayscale print.

  • Grayscale printing, when to use?

I have a Pixma Pro-100. Under what circumstances would I print in “grayscale”?
    Nikon D600; Nikkor 50mm f/1.8G, 85mm f/1.8G, 70-300mmG f/4.5 - 5.6 VR
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I understand what you are saying but I think that I am asking a somewhat different question.
I thought that “Grayscale” printing involved blending the color ink to arrive at different shades of grays. The Pro-100 has three monochrome inks, which should print in various shades of gray. Under these conditions, when (if ever) should grayscale printing be used? When I check the ”Print Black & White photo” box is that the same as printing in “grayscale”?

  • Grayscale printing selection lost upon building exe

Issue: the selected grayscale printing, reverts back to color printing after building an executable. How can I have grayscale printing be the default in my executable?
    Development package: Labview 6.1.
    Operating system: Windows XP
    Thanks,
    Hathi

You need to add an INI file for the EXE called App.ini where App is the name of the EXE without the .exe.  If you alreayd have an INI named that, then add this section to the INI.  If not, then create the INI file with the following section:
    [App]
    colorPrinting=False
Again, App is the name of the EXE without the .exe.

  • Grayscale printing only option in Pages"

I have a TX400 Epson printer and it appears there is not an option for Gray Scale printing only in Print Preview as you might expect .Apple support told me this was a function of the printer's drivers but Epson say otherwise. Is there a driver or firmware I can download or is there something in i Works or Leopard that I need to activate to correct the issue.?

Caveat: I’m using Tiger and an Epson Photo 1400 so maybe things won’t be the same but should at least point you in the right direction. Click on Copies & Pages and scroll down to Print Settings. There you can choose Color or Grayscale.

  • Grayscale Printing with HP Color Laserjet 2600n Using OS 10.6

Like a lot of people, I've been frustrated with the (lack of) support and functionality with this printer since upgrading to Snow Leopard. But at least it's working.
    I have two questions:
    1. Even with the printer set to Grayscale, all of my pages come out in color. Does anyone have a solution to this?
    2. Has anyone found a good alternative printer to the 2600n that works well with Snow Leopard?
    Thanks everyone

    Hi,
Firstly please check to see if your printer in the list:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4356
If YES, you can use this to fix/setup:
    iPad: http://www.apple.com/support/ipad/assistant/airprint/
    iPhone: http://www.apple.com/support/iphone/assistant/airprint/
If NO you have to print using other apps (if applicable) such as

  • Does Grayscale printing in Canon MP 287 uses color ink also???

    Hi,
I want to know that using the printer in grayscale mode uses color ink or not for printing????

So I wonder if my B&W docs have been printing from the color carts and not the pigment black cart. Might this be what's happening? Is there any way to get PSE to use the pigment black cart? Or is something else happening?
Yes, this is very common with most printers now. They blend colors to get a good black. Does your printer have a grayscale mode option?

I am trying to figure out how to print in grayscale and have no idea how to do that.  I am not very experienced.

    Hi,
Follow the steps below in order to print using Black Ink only:
    1. From the application used to print, click the File menu and select Print. The Print window appears.
NOTE: The Print window might be minimized: Click the blue triangle next to the product model to see all available settings.
    2. To access the color options, click the lowest selection box listed as the name of the program (e.g. TextEdit)
Will appear as Copies & Pages within Microsoft Office applications.
    3. Select Paper Type/Quality from the drop-down menu.
    4. Click the triangle next to Color Options to expend the settings.
    5. Set the Color field as Grayscale.
    6. Set the Grayscale Mode as Grayscale or Black Ink Cartridge Only.

  • Grayscale printing a ghost letters

I'm printing a PDF in black/white.  In Adobe Acrobat, I select grayscale.  The print out is black/white but there is a faded light purple halo slightly to the bottom of each letter.  This doesn't happen in Adobe Reader.  Any one have some idea what is wrong with Acrobat?

What type/model of printer? You might try Adobe to see if anyone else is experiencing a similar problem.

  • Grayscale printing as color?

    Hi Photoshoppers,
I am using Elements 6 for Mac with OS 10.6. My printer is a Canon MG8120, which uses several color cartridges (including a black and gray) and a pigment black cartridge.
Today I tried to print a B&W line-art document, and it printed in a faint yellow. I tried another B&W doc, and the same thing happened. I exported the documents as both .pdf and .jpeg, and they printed in B&W using the Preview application.
As it happens, all the color carts in my printer are either low or out of ink. Only the pgiment black is full (I put it in yesterday). So I wonder if my B&W docs have been printing from the color carts and not the pigment black cart. Might this be what's happening? Is there any way to get PSE to use the pigment black cart? Or is something else happening?
    Thanks.

  • Reader Plugin for Firefox will not allow selection of grayscale printing

    All:
When I print normally from Firefox 2 I can select color or grayscale. When the reader add-on is in use I am not given the option to print in grayscale.
The same situation exists if I save the PDF file to my computer and try to print.
I used the HP device manager to set the printer but cups overrides this.
    Fedora 8
    Firefox 2.0.0.16
    Adobe reader 8.1.2_su1-1.i486.
My apologies but Firefox 3 has too many issues to think about upgrading yet.
    Thank you, Bob

    See if this helps you.

Under Removing the plugin it mentions looking in the '''Extensions''' tab of the Add-ons manager, so that '''''plugin''''' installs as an extension, so Firefox does have to be open to install that "plugin".

  • HP C4280 Setting Default to Grayscale Printing

    Hi,
New to the Mac as of 2 weeks ago. I am driving myself crazy trying to find out where to change the defaults for the C4280 printer.
Can someone guide me to the right place?
    Thanks,

    Hi,
There are several different printing solutions available for Android, such as HP's built-in print solution for Android, the HP ePrint mobile app, HP's built-in print solution for Android, etc..
As much as I aware, none will allow setting duplex printing as default, still.. mobile printing is more limited than a standard PC..
The HP plugin allow printing to a printer connected to the same local network from several apps which support the plugin, its features are limited as included in my previous link.
The HP ePrint mobie app allow printing to both a printer connected to the same network or via the cloud using the HP ePrint service to print even when the Android device is not connected to the same network as the printer.
As well there is a new 3rd party service, the Mopria Print Service which allow printing from specific apps through the local network, it should be quite similar to HP's built-in print solution for Android
The following document list different printing solutions available for Android and can be viewed as a reference:
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c03679829&tmp_task=useCategory&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=e...
The following document also list different prinitng solutions for Apple or Android devices and include a description of any of the options I included above:
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c03722645&tmp_task=setupCategory&cc=us&dlc=en&lc...
I surely do not mean to confuse you, but would like to provide you any of the options (Yes, I know, it is quite a confusing field..) and worth trying if it may allow changing the default settings, I personally not aware so it worth trying..
    Hope that helps,
    Shlomi

  • Grayscale & Halftone Printing

I get very good results with RGB to CMYK conversions using Photoshop.  I am satisfied with the final halftone reproduction compared to the image that I see on the monitor 99.9% of the time.  I do not get the same results with grayscale images reproduced as halftones. While they are not true grayscale prints, the inkjet prints of grayscale images that I print from Photoshop always look good.  However when I see the final publication 20-30% of the halftone images will look dull. Is there some way to better visualize with Photoshop what a grayscale image will look like when printed in halftone?

Mostly, the Gray Profile is the problem. Don't use just the convention
Gamma=2.2 or the guess DotGain=20%, but a reliable profile, which
is derived from the CMYK profile for the final process. For instance:
    Edit > Color Settings > Load > Select U.S.WebCoatedSWAP
As a result you'll get the Gray Profile
    Black Ink - U.S.WebCoated (SWOP) v2
Now choose this profile by View > Proof Setup > Custom and work
with Soft Proofing: View > Proof Colors.
Make the gray image either by Grayscale, followed by contrast and
    brightness adjustments.
Or use Image > Adjustments > Channel Mixer, mode Monochrome.
I don't trust the grayscale workflow at all. InDesign doesn't honor
Gray Profiles (but it doesn't ruin the image, it just shows the result
    sometimes wrong).
Therefore I would paste the optimized Grayscale into the K-channel
of an otherwise void CMYK image. Thus we get a compatible CMYK
file for the hopefully correctly assumed CMYK process.
One can find excellent advice in this book:
Dan Margulis , Photoshop Lab color.
    http://www.amazon.de/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?__mk_de_DE=%C5M%C5Z%D5%D1&url=search-alias%3Daps&fie ld-keywords=Dan+Margulis+Lab&x=0&y=0
I'm still working with CS2. I would be glad if somebody could correct
me, if the guidelines should have changed meanwhile (e.g. InDesign's
    sometimes wrong gray preview)
    Best regards --Gernot Hoffmann

  • Generating Grayscale PDF Through Printing Option?

I have a document with 100 color slides that I'd like to retain as a grayscale handout (i.e. a PDF file with 4 slides per page). Through the 'Print' option and beneath the 'Keynote' drop-down menu, for 'Handout', I've selected 4-slides per page. But I can't find a way to make the document grayscale. I see a checkbox for 'Grayscale Printing' beneath the 'Quality & Media' menu, but the document still appears in color when I save it as a PDF and open it in Preview. I've also selected 'Color Sync' beneath the 'Color Matching' menu and found options for black/white and generic gray profiles, but these don't seem to affect the document.
Do I have to add a printer or change my preferences? I remember this working with the last version of Keynote. What has changed?

Set your print options as you want them and then in the PDF drop down menu, select Open PDF in Preview. Then go to Save As and in the Quartz Filter drop down menu, select Gray Tone. Then save it.
