GRC RAR version relative to SAP upgrade to ECC 6

Hi,
Currently we are on GRC RAR version AC-RAR 5.3-13.3. We are upgrading our SAP from ECC 5 to ECC 6 and the latest support pack. What GRC RAR version do we need to be on to identify any potential SOD issues on the ECC 6 system? Are there any other potential pitfalls that we should be aware of?
Thanks,
John Burk

Hello John,
Are you using a customized rule set?
SAP provides rule updates periodically:
For example:
1446680 - Risk Analysis and Remediation Rule Update Q2 2010
You'll find that some specific changes are performed in these rule updates, and some of these changes are only for ECC 6.
You might want to check also here:
Note 986996 - GRC Access Control- Best Practice for Rules and Risks
Then, the point is not the GRC version, but the rule set. Of course, you have to upgrade the RTAs.
Cheers,
Diego.

  • SAP Upgrade from ECC 5.0 to ECC 6

    Hello All,
We are planning for an upgrade from ECC 5 to ECC 6. As some obsolete statements like "Use of header line" is no more supported in ECC 6, do we need to manually change in all custom programs and FMs? Or is there available a tool to do so? or will SAP as part of the upgrade do the necessary. Because this is a huge effort
Thanks in advance for your response
    Anirban

    Hi,
It has to be manually done for each and every program.
Probably your company can check if there are any third party vendor tools that does the conversion, but anyways someone has to manually check the programs and test all of them.

  • SAP Upgrade - Features

    Hi,
We are working in a sap upgrade project ECC 5.0 to ECC6.0. We have found a issue in the features ( PE03) after the upgrade of the dev system. The modifications done to the features has now been overwritten by sap.
eg: The dates maintained in the Feature GBCHG - decision tree nodes are not the same before and after upgrade.
    1. Are changes to features captured in SPAU/SPDD or what is the way to find out which/what features need to be adjusted again ?
    2. Are there any other sap hr objects configurations which needs to be taken care similar to features?
    Thanks
    Jagruthi

    @ Jagruthi:
Hmmm, have you checked the overall structure of the Feature in QA using PE03.  A lot of implementations change the way a structure is used to assist their configuration.
When you are in PE03 click on Attributes to look at the author of the changes for the Feature.  This is seen on the Administrative Data box (bottom of the page).  Notice if Last Changed is a User Name of a company user instead of SAP.
Also when you're in this view, review the actual structure to determine if the same Structure and fields match what you have in DEV.
I really doubt SAP has changed the Feature from ECC 5 to ECC 6.  It is much more likely someone has reconfigured the Feautre a long time back.
    Cheers, Al

  • Put Together A Data Archiving Strategy And Execute It Before Embarking On Sap Upgrade

A significant amount is invested by organizations in a SAP upgrade project. However few really know that data archiving before embarking on SAP upgrade yields significant benefits not only from a cost standpoint but also due to reduction in complexity during an upgrade. This article not only describes why this is a best practice  but also details what benefits accrue to organizations as a result of data archiving before SAP upgrade. Avaali is a specialist in the area of Enterprise Information Management.  Our consultants come with significant global experience implementing projects for the worlds largest corporations.
    Archiving before Upgrade
It is recommended to undertake archiving before upgrading your SAP system in order to reduce the volume of transaction data that is migrated to the new system. This results in shorter upgrade projects and therefore less upgrade effort and costs. More importantly production downtime and the risks associated with the upgrade will be significantly reduced. Storage cost is another important consideration: database size typically increases by 5% to 10% with each new SAP software release – and by as much as 30% if a Unicode conversion is required. Archiving reduces the overall database size, so typically no additional storage costs are incurred when upgrading.
It is also important to ensure that data in the SAP system is cleaned before your embark on an upgrade. Most organizations tend to accumulate messy and unwanted data such as old material codes, technical data and subsequent posting data. Cleaning your data beforehand smoothens the upgrade process, ensure you only have what you need in the new version and helps reduce project duration. Consider archiving or even purging if needed to achieve this. Make full use of the upgrade and enjoy a new, more powerful and leaner system with enhanced functionality that can take your business to the next level.
Archiving also yields Long-term Cost Savings
By implementing SAP Data Archiving before your upgrade project you will also put in place a long term Archiving Strategy and Policy that will help you generate on-going cost savings for your organization. In addition to moving data from the production SAP database to less costly storage devices, archived data is also compressed by a factor of five relative to the space it would take up in the production database. Compression dramatically reduces space consumption on the archive storage media and based on average customer experience, can reduce hardware requirements by as much as 80% or 90%. In addition, backup time, administration time and associated costs are cut in half. Storing data on less costly long-term storage media reduces total cost of ownership while providing users with full, transparent access to archived information.

    Hi,
Check this link which may help u:
    http://sap.ittoolbox.com/groups/technical-functional/sap-basis/igs-upgrade-1455477
The installation/upgrade procedures for the integrated IGS are as follows:
    Integrated Version Installation
The integrated IGS is automatically installed with the SAP Web Application Server.
    Integrated Version Upgrade
You find the upgrade files for the integrated IGS version on the SAP Service Marketplace:
http://service.sap.com/swdc  ®  Download  ®  Support Packages and Patches ®  Entry by ApplicationGroup  ®  SAP Frontend Components ®  SAP IGS  ®  SAP IGS .
There, you find the IGS executables and libraries (igsexe_.sar) as well as the IGS folder structure (igshelper_.sar) containing among others font files.
With the upgrade files of the executables and libraries, proceed exactly like you would with kernel patches (for example, extract the Archive to the same location). More information about kernel patches can be found in the related note 19466 in the section Copying and Installing a Patch.
The upgrade files for the IGS folder structure must be extracted to the instance directory (DIR_INSTANCE). More information can be found in note 1028690.
After a restart of the Web AS the new IGS is up and running.
Information about finding out your IGS patch level is provided in note 931900.
For an upgrade of an integrated IGS please also check note 896400.

  • SAP R/3 4.6C Cable Solutions upgrade to ECC 6.0 DIMP

    Hi all.
We are planning to upgrade SAP R/3 4.6C system (Cable solutions) to an SAP ECC 6.0 (EHP4 - DIMP). We have few questions related to this upgrade.
    1. Since Cable solutions add-on is no more available in ECC 6.0 and its getting replaced with DIMP, what kind of data conversion/migration we need to perform before or after upgrade?
    2. Is there a data migration document available in SDN or SMP? We could not find such document though the note  664712 says there is a document ""Migration from Cable Solution V4.6C/1A to DIMP""
    3. Does the data conversion/migration will happen from SAP 4.6C to ECC 6.0 or it needs an SCM system?
    Thanks & Regards
    Senthil

Thank you for your reply Gerald & Sunny.
Still I am not clear on the following
    1. Where do we get the CS-to-DIMP-Migration-Guide.pdf document?
    2. Is SCM a mandatory? or all CS data can be migrated to ECC 6.0 DIMP system?
would appreciate, if someone can throw some insight

  • Query related to SAP

I have a query relating to SAP, specifically when using the Create New Session button. In the past when using this button, it has always created a new SAP session with the window displaying the SAP Easy Access  User Menu... front end, with all my favourite transactions listed. However, recently this user menu has disappeared and the window is blank, meaning I have to type the transaction in the top left box, which, whilst not preventing use, is a little annoying and awkward!
I dont believe I have changed any options recently and can find no settings that look like they would bring the user menu back but it would be really useful if it did! (It is probably worth mentioning that this only occurs when creating a new session; when starting a new SAP session in the first instance, the user menu appears...)
    Please help me out
    Many Thanks,

  • Upgrade to ECC 6.0 & SAP Netweaver 7.0

    Hi,
We are right now using ECC 5.0 & Netweaver 2004 (EP 6.0). Since its very old we plan to upgrade in two phases with some time gap between them. The first phase will be upgrading the ERP to ECC6.0 and second phase is upgrading EP 6.0  to EP 7.0.
    The question are:
    1) Will the upgrade of ECC 6.0 will cause any conflict to the EP will be still on EP6.0 version for sometime in between?
    2) Should the upgrades be carried together or how is it suggested?
    3) Which is the best compatible version of Netweaver witl ECC6.0?
Hoping for quick response as we need to plan accordingly.
    Thanks,
    Shruti

Generally we recommend that ESS and MSS versions, Portal and ECC are synchronized
The corresponding version and SP combinations are mentioned in
    http://wiki.sdn.sap.com/wiki/display/ERPHCM/HOWTOGETRIDOFSPSTACKMISMATCHISSUES
However it is also possible to run a mixed landscape - the options are listed in note 1007341

  • Under which group i have to post issues related to SAP - Basis

    Hello All,
    Can some one tell me
Under which group i have to post issues related to SAP - Basis
    Thanks
    Balaji

    Hi,
As such there is forum which is dedicated to basis. But there are number of forum where you can post issues depending upon what type of issue you have e.g.
If you have issue related to database then you can post in SAP on Oracle, SAP on DB6, SAP on MaxDB etc.
If it is related to OS then SAP on Unix, SAP on window etc.
If it is related to ERP/EHP upgrade then SAP ERP 6.0 upgrade, Enhancement Package installation.
If its related to netweaver then on SAP Netweaver administrator, SAP netweaver platform.
    Thanks

  • SAP Upgrade issue  ABAP-PI Proxy error

    Hi Guys,
We have an issue in SAP R3 system after the recent SAP upgrade.
The proxy programs in R3 were using SAP Standard structure in their development.
    Standard structure : SAPPLCO_LOG_ITEM_CODE (TYPE SAPPLCO_LOG)
And so after the upgrade, There seems to be a new field added in the above standard structure and hence causing mismatch between the proxy program developed internal structure to the SAP standard structure.
We come to understand that this Standard structure is being used from SAP PI, Software component SAP APPL.
So SAP PI has old SAP standard structure and SAP R3 has new standard structure with additional field.
Can you please suggest how to overcome this issue. We have also raised an OSS ticket to SAP.
    Kind Regards
    Rajesh.S

    Hi Harald,
Thank You for the information. I was able to download SAP_APPL 6.06 content from SAP service market place. Here We have a doubt before importing the new SAP APPL content. In market place downloads under SAP_APPL 6.06 we were able to see few many database downloads with last changed at 3.04.2014.
Our EHP upgrade for SAP_APPL is 6.06 , SP level 0007. So we should download / import  the highlighted content version (SAPAPPL60607) in the screenshot from market place or download / import the latest change under SAP_APPL 6.06 download patch ? Kindly let us know.
    Best Regards,

  • SAP Upgrade 4.6C to ECC 6.0 EHP5 system customer is using Data Archiving

    Dear All,
I am planning to do SAP Upgrade from 4.6C to ECC 6.0 EHP5, in the source system customer is using SAP DATA ARCHIVING. As per some of the SAP Notes before downtime phase we need to disable all the dataarchiving jobs .
    1) My question is do we need to do any presteps before starting the upgrade related to SAP DATA ARCHIVING ?
    2) After the upgrade if customer wants to use the old archiving objects etc... whether they will able to do it. For this do we need to raise any message with SAP regrading the dataarchiving before the upgrade
Please let me know if you have any ideas on the above questions.
    Thanks & Regards
    Ravikiran

    Hi,
I would suggest you to do the data archiving after upgrade project or finish data archiving before upgrade project. As lots of new archiving objects has been delivered in ECC.
Also, its true that before starting downtime project you need to stop all your jobs. Also, SAP has recently introduced new retention management technique for data archiving starting from EHP4 onwards to manage data archiving more efficiently. If you are interested, you can explore this further on http://sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/ilm or http://service.sap.com/ilm.

  • SAP Upgrade - Standard function modules & modifications

    Hello everybody,
we are doing a SAP Upgrade to SAP ERP 6.0 and I need your help
Some SAP standard funcion modules were modified in the last years and some weeks ago the changes were undone. The last version of the function modules are the same than the original function modules, but the version manager shows that the last version belongs to the user FGZ583 (and not SAP).
The Problem is, that SAP deals with that function modules as a modification (because the last change was done by FGZ583?), but they are identical to the original SAP function modules.
When the Upgrade is done, the SPAU/SPDD/se95 show that function modules as "modifications", although they are the same that the original ones.
What could I do to avoid that SAP deals with that function modules as modifications?
    Cheers
    Prashad

    Hello Prashad,
Its standard that once the object is changed the corresponding entry is recorded in different tables.Even if you roll back now system will treat as the modifications because corresponding change entries are present in the tables. You can try to activate the older versions but i don't think this will help you.
This is not a point of worry as in SPDD adn SPAU you can choose reset to original for all those objects.
Even if you can get those objects to move back to the source version they will get back to the standard in the new release. So my advise will be to let your upgrade run and then reset these objects to original.

  • GRC RAR function ids

    Hi,
I have a question for GRC RAR functions ids. After uploading objects,do i have to create function ids and add tcodes and update permissions with the help of controllers/finance admin.I am not sure how it works.
    Thanks
    Mushu.

    Dear Mushu,
You will get businessprocess, rule set, funciton, risks  etc., text files for different systems like R/3, CRM & SRM along with the installation files. You can upload these files and generate your SOD rules. This is standard rule set available from SAP. You can customize this rule set later as per your business requirements by changing functions, risks etc.,
If you want to have totally customized rule set then you need to follow the procedure of creating functions, addition of t-codes, authorization obejcts (permissions) enablement and then generating rules. If the customized rule set is huge the better to use the text files - tweak them and upload into RAR tool
    Thanks and Best Regards,
