GRC - The bigger picture
Hi guys, what kind of framework or approach do you use when trying to implement GRC in an organization ? Of course we know SAP has access controls, process controls, RM, repository etc... but i do not think any companies can implement all of them together.. is there interesting implementation which you guys like to share?
Dear Peter,
Access Control : Unfortunately, the cost in money and resources to ensure compliance with access control, segregation of duties, and compliant user provisioning on an ongoing basis can be overwhelming for many companies.
As access control, proper segregation of duties, and compliant provisioning must be managed by a solution that spans all core business processes across all enterprise application software. A central policy repository can then ensure consistency across the enterprise.
Third, the solution must be able to demonstrate compliance across the enterprise. It must maintain auditable records that internal and external auditors as well as regulators can use to verify compliance. Some relevant audit questions in the access control area include the following:
What access risks are monitored?
Which access risks have been properly mitigated?
Who has access to a given system?
Who granted access and when?
Was it properly approved?
Process Control :The solution must enforce accountability and enable transparency so that business owners and executives can ultimately sign off on their attestations with confidence. As a result, compliance issues such as access control, proper segregation of duties, and compliant provisioning must be managed by a solution that spans all core business processes across all enterprise application software. A central policy repository can then ensure consistency across the enterprise.
From an IT perspective, this enterprise readiness translates into a number of requirements. First, IT managers want an application delivered with a predefined best-practice library of comprehensive cross-process and cross-application policies. On one hand, this vast number of policy rules must be easy to enhance and to adjust as the business changes. On the other hand, rules must be granular
enough to address all of the details of enterprise application software, catching all the violations without producing false positives.
Second, the solution must empower employees across the enterprise. Efficient and effective collaboration between business and IT is one of the keys to success here. Automation and dynamic workflow options not only ensure reliability and repeatability of the solution by avoiding manual errors and establishing institutional
knowledge; they also accelerate processes and increase efficiency. Third, the solution must be able to demonstrate compliance across the enterprise. It must maintain auditable records that internal and external auditors as well as regulators can use to verify compliance. Some relevant audit questions in the access control area include the following:

Which access risks have been properly mitigated?

Repository: A central policy repository can then ensure consistency across the enterprise.

I Think Everyone Is Missing the Bigger Picture Here!!!
Is CC a ripoff? Yes and No. If you are new to the platform, than no. Where else can you get all this software for 600 a year, but that is not the issue I am having. I do not like being told that I have to rent the software for 50/month, because that is only the start. I am an avid CS user, Premiere, AE, PS, Illustrator, DW and now I am at a crossroads as to whether or not join the CC. 600 per year may not be that bad, but if this becomes your main workflow, what happens when Adobe and all their corporate greed, and yes it is greed decides it needs to be 75/month, or 100/month. I currently have 3 computers that I work off of, and the CC will only let you use two so now you have to buy another license for another 50/month. So now I am 100/month for the same setup of using CS6. So now if I am a new user, where is the savings? I get the discount for the first year for upgrading...then what? How high does the Adobe price go? Adobe itself stated that they will never sell a perpetual license again and let people use the software for as long as they want. That my friends is corporate greed. My much loved Adobe has now joined the ranks of Apple. Those of us who love the Apple OS and have been using their computers for years are now caught in inflated price gouging for sub-par machines when compared to the new PC rolling out at half the price and twice the power, and you all know a good PC will last just as long as a Mac. This is forcing many, and myself to change our workflow and begin moving to a PC route simply because of Apples greed to sell a 15" mac book for 2700.00. No thanks Apple. Now Adobe has stepped up to bat and basically doing the same thing. They are forcing our hands, removing the option and telling us what we can and can't do, forcing us loyal Adobe users to change our workflow to accomodate them.
The problem here is the same as our problem with our government. We let them do it and get away with it. Gas prices will never come down because we the consumer have shown that the market will bare that price and we will continue to pay it and take it. Until enough of us step up to Apple and say no more of your record earnings and way over inflated prices, they will continue down their path and we will continue to get robbed by them. Well, the same thing goes here for Adobe. We at the end of the day have the say so as to the fact if they succeed or fail. There are other options out there....good ones also, and if we provide the exodus, Adobe will have no choice but to respond, but the sad thing is that we have become a world of sheep and followers and we will contine to take it in the rear from companies like Adobe and Apple and let them get away with murder.
Adobe will raise thier price and by then it will be all too late. We the consumer ultimately has the power. I say no more. Let Adobe rot until they learn that giving us no choice to choose, only leaves us the choice to say no.I have seen considerable negative feedback from the forums and our clients mostly around the endless rental of the software. The issue that seems to be the crux is the requirement to continue the CC to open the editors own media/work down the road. That argument I can definitely understand here and there is a simple fix to that if management at Adobe would stop and think about this. However for the sake of argument and to explain the warning I have been telling folks for a couple years now, I will give Adobe's perspective. Cloud based Delivery for all software especially OS's is coming. Whether you want it or not it's coming and when Microsoft and Apple make the move, get ready for 10 to 15 dollars a month to launch Windows or OSX. Linux is the last line of defense and until the Linux open software forum gets some standardized API's out there to lower development cost and time, it doesn't look good.
Adobe as a company looks at the Cloud Distribution as the golden goose for software companies. For years Software companies have bemoaned the cost of software piracy, R&D design time frames shrinking with tremendous industry changes annually, and support costs related to hardware manufacturers/system OEM's or version differences in software. Add to this the ability to plan R&D asset requirements, development costs of several projects over a period of time, and synchronizing releases with other software that company may develop as well. The publicly traded software companies have to further report cost analysis and earnings expectations months/years ahead of time. Those variables along with increasing sales interest through product evolution are all essentially solved with the Cloud Distribution model. With the cloud, piracy is minimized or even relatively eliminated depending on the verification or cloud model. The expected profits/earning long term are far easier to plan and forecast. This allows Adobe to plan R&D assets accordingly to the relative earning index and ensure the Public reporting's are good for company and investors. Adobe will be able to release software upgrades and improvements on demand rather than with a en mass planned release every year or 2. This keeps clients continued interest in the products and allows Adobe to shift R&D resources/personnel versus running teams for each product. This last part is really the crux of the partner relationship Adobe is creating with their clients. It is in the best interest of the clients for Adobe to succeed as it is in Adobe's interest that the clients succeed. So a equal partnership is formed with this model. It's also why the cloud delivery is a good evolution of software distribution.
The Downside to the cloud distribution is the ability to open content created during the subscription after a client lets that expire. This really brought up the argument of who owns the content created to the table whether intentional or not. This really was not a good idea to have that argument tied to this right from the beginning of the transition. The simple fix to this is set a period of time such as 2 to 3 years as a cycle. When that period of time is reached, the Cloud version changes from V1 to CC V2 and all clients who have subscribed to the Cloud for 18 to 24 months depending on whether 2 or 3 years have the option to purchase a perpetual cloud account status for that version that just rolled over. This should be a simple low cost development project that just updates the signature of the application. Then the cloud server just verifies whether you are licensed for current V2 or a perpetual V1. All features released after V2 is rolled over to will not be available for V1 perpetual licenses. That will also end the support for V1 other than support plans. This will allow clients to own the rights to their media and the ability to continue working with it and give Adobe a bump in revenue every 3 years to justify such a plan. Whether a new feature is added right when it rolls over wont matter since it's simply for the clients to have the ability to own their media created. That I believe would really end the majority of the negative concern right now from loyal Adobe Clients and still be in the best interest of both parties.
Let this though be a warning to everyone about what is coming. There are way to many advantages and very few if any draw backs for software companies with the cloud delivery model. The piracy and consistent revenue alone is enough to make this industry wide. This started with the Google Laptop and really is just now starting to come to the market. The clock is ticking and the time is coming where it will cost $10 a month just to login to your OS. I really highly suggest people who dont like this start really pushing those in the Linux Arena to get their acts together and start standardizing for development instead of pushing for complete open source. That dream was squashed long ago. Companies have a right to make a profit on their development work and complete open source is way to much of a risk to that.

In my iPhoto the thumbnails are all present but when I click on them the bigger picture is not visible and I can see a triangle with an exclamation mark in it. Has anyone got any suggestions?
That means iPhoto has lost the link to the original file.
What version of iPhoto?
Are you running a Managed or a Referenced Library?
(A Managed Library, is the default setting, and iPhoto copies files into the iPhoto Library when Importing. The files are then stored in the Library package
A Referenced Library is when iPhoto is NOT copying the files into the iPhoto Library when importing because you made a change at iPhoto -> Preferences -> Advanced. (You unchecked the option to copy files into the Library on import) The files are then stored where ever you put them and not in the Library package. In this scenario you are responsible for the File Management.)
Have you used any apps to "clean" or "tune up" your Mac recently?
Have you deleted any images from 'All My Files' or 'All My Photos'? -
KCLP - can someone give me the big picture?
In a project I have to review I stumbled into some log files displayed with Tx KCLP. It's some "external data transfer" logs.
Unfortunately I miss the big picture and I did not find much on KCLP. Can someone give me a hint what's the big picture, e.g. what kind of applications use the KCLP logs.
Thanks FrankI know KCLP is used by CO-PA to import external data via KEFC.
THe bigger picture is
- provide an import structure
- define some transfer rules
- post the data

I use aperture 3 since a long time. Using slit viewer, noe the bigger image become bigger then the given space and shifted to the right, so that I can't see the complete picture anymore. And I also don't see the last few picture in the strip below. How can I splve this problem?
This lloks like your preferences file might have become corrupted.
you probably have a problem with corrupted user preferences.
Remove the Preferences: Remove the Aperture's user preferences from the User Library as described here:
Aperture 3: Troubleshooting Basics http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3805
Note:Your User Library is hidden by default in 10.7.x or later - to open it in a Finder window use the "Go" menu from the Finder's main menu bar.
Quit Aperture, if it is running. Log off and on again.
Open the user library by using the Finder's "Go > Go to Folder" menu and hold down the options-key, until "Library" appears in the drop down menu. Select it.
In the widow that will open, scroll down to "Preferences"
From the "Preferences" folder remove "com.apple.Aperture.plist".
Then try to launch Aperture again.
But deleting the "Preferences" file will cause Aperture to forget the preferences settings. Be prepared to have to reset all options you set using the Aperture Preferences panel.

How can I get the edited pictures from the thumbnails to full size?
I upgraded to iPhoto 11, the thumbnail photos show my previous edits, but when I click on the photo to make it bigger, it reverts back to the unedited, original picture. How can I get the edited pictures from the thumbnails to full size?
Verify you are using iPhoto11 ver 9.5
if not run the >Software update or check your apps folder and make sure the correct iPhoto is launched, not an older ver. -
Get bigger pictures when click on it!
Hey,
I have a problem with getting bigger prictures by clicking on the smaler one.
Example:
On our news section are posted some pictures. That pictures are "thumbnails" (or just smaller pictures) and when I click on the thumbnail the original picture
shuld be displayed. But it doesn´t work. And I won´t use a picture gallery for it because it makes no sense to create a own gallery for every
new picture on the site.
Ideas?
Thank you very much in advance
ChrisAh... I´m sorry! I use MUSE to do this.
And is there a possibility to create a picture gallery only with thumbnails (maybe 5 or 6 in a line and column).
And by clicking on the thubnail the picture will be bigger (zoom)? But without using the lightroom box? -
Could not load the Bigger Tiles Modules
I use Photoshop CS5 on iMac 3.06GHz IC2D with Lion 10.7.2. When I start Photoshop a Popup says : Could not load the Bigger Tiles Modules because it does not work with this version of Photoshop. Pity, but how to disable this Popup at every start ?
Sure... I hope this helps and this is what you mean. It is the case that I installed it fresh on a new machine, but maybe I checked a wrong box along the way. I certainly have no reason to deny installing it any other way. Regardless, it was only a slight annoyance and such an easy fix.

Where to find the Login Picture
Hello;
I wonder where can I find the original picture that is used as my login picture, I mean the big size one.
Worth mentioning is that I managed to extract a 256x256 px version using:
dscl . -read /Users/short_username JPEGPhoto | tail -1 | xxd -r -p > ~/Desktop/accountImage.jpg
But I need a bigger one if possible.
Hope someone will help.
Regards.
-MHDHi,

what do i need to connect my mac book pro to the tv with the mac's thunderbolt port to hdmi? I have the newest macbook pro. I'm wanting to have the best picture I can get from my 1080p tv. thanks
Thanks Community! I solved the problem. In fact it was not a problem but lack of understanding. These guys at Apple are way ahead in thir thinking. I will try to explain as short as I can.
In Lion, ihe Prefferences/Display show only two choices: 6-7 steps of resolution and some color tab. No two screens, no two display to overlap, nothing for us to do. "That was the problem"! Everything is automatic.
When I connected the HDMI cable to the Miniport into a T-bolt slot, the TV screen showed the "spiral galaxy" how Zyriab is calling it. In fact he gave me the best clue. That shows the connection is good. But where is the Mac Book image?
You have to drag it to the right out of the Mac Book display area, and "voila!" it will continue on the TV screen. The same with the mouse pointer, push it out ofthe Mac Book display area and you see it on the TV sreen. Good image, you can keep the max resolution, etc. The sound is still on the Book's speakers. I have to figure that out.
Thank everybody, especialy Zyriab, ne was the closest.
High regards to everybody -
I am trying to connect my mac book pro to the tv via a mini displayport to a hdmi cable, the only picture on the tv screen is the background picture of my mbp, does anyone know what I need to connect to my samsung tv ?
Hi there. I also bought an iWires mini Display port to HDMI cable and have an LG LED/LCD TV. I plugged it in to my MB Pro and followed the very small writing that came in the package and got both audio and video going. You need to change the audio settings from within System Preferences on your Mac to select your TV as the audio output.
My concern is the data latency - do you experience a delay between moving your mouse on the MBPro and the TV displaying the movement? It is only a fraction of a second, but certainly enough to be annoying, especially in a cable as expensive as the iWire. -
When I receive an e-mail with an attached picture, the picture is so large it cannot be seen without scrolling down the page. How can I set up Thunderbird to show the entire picture on one screen, without scrolling (the way Outlook does)?
Try an add-on, such as:

"There was an error opening the database for the library "~/Pictures/Apert"
Hey everyone,
There's already another discussion thread about this at the link below, but the problem was never actually resolved. http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2343014&tstart=0&messageID=116 67261#11667261
So I stumbled across this problem where Aperture 3 will display the following error when opening the image library.
There was an error opening the database for the library “~[path]/Aperture Library.aplibrary”.
One user suggested navigating to the actual library, and ⌘⌥-clicking the library to open it with the Aperture Library First Aid dialog. This however, did not work for me. I still received the error messages upon ⌘⌥-clicking the library.
Here's a little hack I discovered for those of you still struggling. It doesn't fix the problem (leaves quite a large dent remaining actually), but hopefully someone can cultivate what little I discovered.
⌥-click Aperture (not the library)
You should get to the library selection dialog box. Create a new library (bottom right corner) and remember the location of the new library. Put a few random pictures in the new one.
Close Aperture
⌃-click both the old and new libraries and "Show Package Contents."
Open the folder "Database" in both libraries.
Cross check the folders to see if the old library is missing files that are in the new library. If your old library is missing some files (mine was), drag the missing files from the new library to the old one.
Close both folders.
⌘⌥-click the old library.
NOW, I got the Aperture Library First Aid dialog.
Rebuild the library (3rd option)
Wait a while.
Aperture should open up with a folder named "Recovered Folder." Within this folder will be a SINGLE project named "Recovered Project" with ALL the images from your old library. There may be a few albums there too, but mine were all empty so it didn't matter in my case. To my knowledge, I lost all the adjustments I performed too.
This is as far as I got. I have much of my library backed up, so I only needed to copy the most recent photos into the backup. I am NOT reorganizing and re-editing pictures in this one!
As Aperture is a photo-organizing and photo-editing software, I understand that this by no means fixes the problem, since you lose all organization and editing. But it enables one to at least view the images lost. Hopefully a more knowledgable hacker else can figure out how to fix this completely. Unfortunately, I simply don't have the time to continue messing with this.
Good luck to anyone else having issues! I understand the frustration you must be facing, its freaky having years worth of images simply disappear! After this incident, I'm definitely going to configure Time Machine to perform more frequent backups, since my latest backup was already a couple weeks old.Hey All,
To my horror I have a similar problem and your solution didn't seem to help. To be specific, I get the error:
"There was an error opening the database for the library “~/Pictures/Aperture Library_2.aplibrary" Everytime I try to run Aperture. This happened because my Apple computer shut off completely (due to bad battery) while importing photos from a memory card.
I've tried "option + command" while clicking the aperture application and that gave me the same error message without any other option except to quit the program. I tried "option + command" and clicked the library package but that didn't work either. I tried creating a new aperture library, opening it which I did successfully, and then switching to my main one but that didn't work.
Does anyone know away to get it to work again and have the edits still there?
I'm a professional photographer and have thousands of photos or so in the library so this is distressing. The master files for the photos are located on an external hard drive, but I'm not sure how to access them in aperture. Are all the edits on the photographs are in the external hard drive or the aperture library. Is there any other way to resolve this issue without losing the edits?
Does apple have a support number I can call? Any help would be greatly appreciated!! -
Firefox almost crashes when saving the first picture.
Every time I load up firefox or restart it, the first picture I try and save (doesn't matter where, what type or where from) firefox freezes up and if I click anywhere it does the not responding status until the picture is downloaded then it continues as if nothing happened and doesn't do it again until I restart or log off.
I've tried:
- Safe mode (firefox)
- restarting (firefox)
- restarting (computer)
- disabling all themes and add-ons
- resetting firefox
and nothing is fixing this. Can someone please help?
also it only shows a sliver of the green saving bar on my icon then it freezes. Not sure if that helps.
EDIT:
It gives me this unresponsive script:
chrome://global/content/contentAreaUtils.js:173It is possible that the default download location isn't accessible for some reason.
Which security software (firewall, anti-virus) do you have?
It is possible that anti-virus software is corrupting downloaded files or is otherwise interfering with downloading files.<br />
Try to disable the real-time (live) scanning of files in your anti-virus software temporarily to see if that makes downloading work. -
After several attempts to get some help from Apple, it has become clear to me that my i phone 4 has no options within accessibility to reduce the motion picture.
I have a serious problem with the new software but unfortunatly i cannot go backwards with this update. Apple for obvious reasons will not advise any downgrading options. Can anyone please help me? Is there a third party option here. I do not want to pay for a new phone or replace the i phone as i run a mac, desktop and i pad... !! Thank you.Giansh2006 wrote:
I don't quite understand why you have asked me about why I'm keeping my URL secret?
It's only that I'm not clear why you are reluctant to post it. If you have a podcast in the iTunes Store then it's there for the world to see - they might search on its subject or title, for example, even if they don't actually know about it from you. If you look at other posts in this forum you will see that usually people post their URLs and then I can examine the feed and hopefully find out from that what the problem is. Without this information no-one can give you anything more than wild guesses.
If you are still reluctant to post the details and want to have a bash at diagnosing the problem yourself you may find my web pages helpful:
