Great idea to enhance iTunes!

To be able to choose the order of playing songs by selecting what song you want played next, and 2 more songs after that. Right click a song and select 'play this song next', while you're away from the computer will be effective. Tell me what you think

You can already add songs to play next (or add the end of th eshown songs) with iTunesDJ.
You can also drag them up/down or delete them from the playlist.

• We have a great idea for an app, need some advice

my wife and i were joking around about something and she came up with a great idea for an app. we don't know anything about programming or developing so any advice on how to proceed? i guess we need to find an app maker? to propose our idea to without it being stolen. any help would be great, i scrolled thru the first 5 pages of this thread and saw nothing related. thanks.

One option is if there is a similar type of app available via the iTunes app store that you like, contact the developer for the app. Without providing much detail about your app idea, ask the developer if they would contract their services to build your app - along with regular maintenance and app updates, etc. Keep in mind that Apple makes the final decision if an app will be available via the iTunes app store - the overwhelming majority of app submittals are approved, but not all based on Apple's written requirements.

• Looking for help building app! Great idea!

Hey, I have a great idea for a really fun game that could draw attention to alot of iOS users and soon become very popular. I have done some browsing in the App Store and the idea i have is not yet there.
The reason I am reaching out to the forums is because I need help:
I have no coding experience but i have all the necessary tools. I am signed up as a developer. I pay 99.99$ a year.
I would love to get this idea rolling and would love to begin to develop a team!
Would anyone like to help?
NEED:

For more information please email me at [email protected]
Thanks!
Hoping for some positive feed back!
-Scott

I hope you get some positive feedback but there's a couple of things you should know:
1.  Everyone who is a serious developer and already knows how to deveop apps is too busy working on their own great ideas.
2.  You're about to start getting lots of spam because you posted your email address in a publicly accessable forum.

• Where do I send great ideas for iPhone and iTouch applications??

I have some great ideas that Apple might be interested, but how do I let them know what they are. I don't want to ring as it would be an expensive international call!
If anybody working for Apple is moderating these forums could you please contact me and let me know what to do?
Or if any of you guys know how to speak to them, leave your comment.
My app ideas are fun and enjoyable, I'm sure you will be downloading them in the near future!

You can find an app developer and let them know.
I doubt Apple will accept unsolicited ideas, but you could use their feedback link if you feel compelled to do so.

• 24 Great Ideas from Idea Exchange for you to Kudos

There are 1140 ideas on the LabVIEW Idea Exchange right now. That's a lot of ideas, and it doesn't even count the RT or FPGA exchanges. Reading through all of them is something most of you can't spend time doing. Some of the ideas quickly garner a lot of Kudos, and those jump to the top of the lists and get attention from NI. Others are good, but they languish, lost in the noise.
I have read them all, generally by staying up-to-date on the forum ever since its inception. I kudos'd many as I went. Over the weekend, I went through all of the ideas I had kudos'd and picked out a set that I think a lot of customers would want but that don't have the high Kudos ratings. Maybe these got posted on a weekend or holiday. Maybe the title is a bit misleading and you didn't bother to read it. Or maybe you've just stopped reading the Idea Exchange because you couldn't keep up with the wash of words fellow wire workers are writing. Perhaps this simplified menu will be a bit easier to browse.
To be clear: I'm not including any of the ideas that already have high Kudos counts. Those are great ideas, but they've already got their time in the sun. These are the little quiet ideas that I think might make a big impact on your productivity, your VI's functionality or your VIs performance. All of these had fewer than 100 Kudos when I made this list. Full disclosure: Two ideas on the list (12 & 23) are ones I submitted to the Exchange. I think they warrant being on the list, but maybe I'm biased because they happen to affect the areas of LV I use most. You be the judge... :-)

A good example is the fact that one of the most popular ideas ever was the idea to adjust the design of the boolean constant.  Altenbach, who came up with that idea, have received less kudos for other ideas that I'm sure would give him (and us) much higher benefits. Popularity and greatness are very often two different things.
Although I get your general point, having used LV 2010 in beta for the last few months, the improvement of readability of diagrams brought by the boolean constant change cannot be understated. Tons of VIs have arrays of boolean constants on them, have boolean constants squeezed into small corners, etc, and the redesign has helped A LOT.
Speaking to your general point -- my goal was to find low-ranked ideas that I felt would have significant developer impact and give people a second chance to review those ideas. Are there other ideas among the 1000 that are worth doing? Sure. I tried to find a broad enough set that people could actually make a meaningful choice of what to kudos (any fewer and it would be akin to "hey, everyone, come vote for this particular idea"). And it does rely upon my opinion -- though I tried to use my professional opinion as someone who regularly hears user feedback to promote ideas that I think users would generally like, as opposed to my personal opinion as a LV developer to improve the areas of LV that I personally use a lot.
I know that customers like it when NI is responsive to its demands. I know that NI knows this and so is proactively trying to address concerns that make it high on the Idea Exchange. LV 2010 is coming out in August. If you look at the ideas that are tagged "In Beta", you can see the responsiveness of NI. As we start work on the next version of LV (or rather, full time work, since future versions of LV are always already in work -- we are a parallel language in so many ways), we're going to go find the next batch of ideas to implement. But I also know that there can be user fatigue with the Idea Exchange's massive amount of content. That fatigue can lead to a strange situation where NI addresses the high flying concerns and, users are still left feeling they didn't quite get what they wanted, but they maybe can't say why because, after all, NI implemented the high kudos ideas. I cherry picked some ideas that, if implemented, I think would get a lot of people saying, "Yes, LV is now better" as a way of avoiding some of that fatigue effect. Is it a list of earthshattering ideas that revolutionize LV? No. It is a list of incremental improvements that should affect lots of people and make LV recognizably better to its users.

• GREAT IDEA FOR AN UPDATE WITH iTunes

Ok, so I was just thinking about this in the morning.
in the Podcast setting you can choose how many things to download. but see.. what if you only wanted to Download videos or the music from a podcast. I've been seeing Video's and Music a lot more in the podcasts being merged together. So hey Apple! how about it?
Thanks,
Aaron
HP a340n   Windows XP Pro   iTunes crashes when I import bought music/videos into iTunes

I was just saying apple should make an option in iTunes so you can sort weather you just want Videos or Audio from the podcasts to download. Because people sometimes merge there videos and audio together.

• Ideas for future iTunes improvements

Pardon me if some of these points are already covered, in which case I would appreciate links to solutions.
1) The iTunes App Store could really use some fine-tuning. The categories are occasionally so broad that fine-tuning searches is difficult. For instance, "Music" is waaaayyyyy too broad not to be broken down into sub-categories, especially given that Mac and Apple are so deeply engrained in the general arts industry. I suggest:
- Notation (displaying, composing, writing of sheet music);
- Performance (instruments to play);
- Recording (obvious);
- Listening (managing audio files)...
...for starters, with option to apply more than one of these to an app at a time. BTW, I'm sure that experts using other types of apps could make similar statements.
2) I swear I once found a pull-down menu containing "Previous Apps of the Week," but I can't find it anymore. Well, anyway, it's a good idea, more so if you don't save or memorize all your E-mail newsletters.
3) In the left sidebar where you see the list of in-app purchase upgrades, it's really annoying not to be able to see the whole title of the upgrade. How about a mouse-over pop-up?
BTW, I normally use iTunes in full-screen at 1920 x 1080, and would appreciate scalable windows within iTunes for in-app file repositories.

Useful info. I never would have seen that there.
I would like to see more instruments (like guitar models), or saved settings. What would be great is if GB could somehow help duplicate settings of an existing track, or offer some idea of how to get there. All the instruments in Magic GB are real instruments (or saved as such) and you can't just delete the track and start playing.
If not in the app, then here would be a good place to store settings with sound files so that people don't have to reinvent the wheel every time they need a new instrument. For example, let's say I want a rockabilly or jazz guitar sound. It would be nice to have a preset configuration with all the settings optimized. For each guitar type (as an example) people could post tricks they have found.

• Idea for apple: iTunes Mix

iTunes mix:
Visualize mirroring iTunes from the middle, so you have 2x play, 2x volume display, 2x playlist and 2x browser mirrored againts eachother. Now you can mix!
Could be just a button at the bottom of the interface: Mix!
So many cafes and pubs use iTunes, this would be great for a lot of users!

• I have what I think is a great idea for legitimage music sharing with your friends app, keeping the song writers earning what they have worked hard for!

But this one I feel is so good Ive searched the best forums to air my idea, ive never done anything like this before so im going for it. It could even be something apple could impliment into itunes on all devices. So bascily if anyone could advice me what to do or where to go to gert ppl to help me develop this that would be great.
Thanks very much!!

• Great idea for a new feature in genius

Hi All,
Personally the main type of music I like is all/any music in the iTunes store top 100.
A really cool feature would be if genius makes a playlist for you, and keeps it updated with a certain playlist in the iTunes store. (For example the iTunes top 100)
It would be updated to keep your playlist in the same order as the iTunes store playlist. Also, when a new song is on the store playlist, it will prompt you to purchase to keep your playlist updated.
This would be a really cool and convenient feature if you just wanted to listen to the top songs on your iPod/iPhone without the commercials of commercial radio!
And if this was a success, it could look at a 3rd party's playlist (such as America's top 40) and keep the playlist updated with songs from the iTunes store, but in the playlist order of the 3rd party. And again, it would prompt you to buy new songs if you don't own the ones on the auto playlist from the iTunes store!
I would love to see what the apple fans think of this idea!
Sam.

• Just wanted to say "Wow" - the new "Coffee Corner" is a great idea.

Apart from solving certain difficult "policy" problems so well, the new "Coffee Corner" is living proof of the idea that SAP is a great company as well as a successful and rich company.
To be a great company, a corporation must tolerate intense scrutiny from its "loyal opposition". We all know SAP gets intense scrutiny from the "disloyal opposition" (if all the rumors about Oracle staff with SDN accounts are true).
But intense scrutiny from the "loyal opposition" is in some respects much more difficult for a company to endure and deal with, because "insiders" know the exact locations of a lot of the closets that have the nastiest skeletons in them.  (I don't mean "insiders" as in SAP staff, but external "insiders" who work with SAP products every day and therefore know how they can still be improved, even when quite mature.)
I hope that many many SDNers use the "Coffee Corner" because it could become a "seedling nursery" for many little plants that might someday become beautiful trees in the SAP landscape.
I'm not only talking about new "killer apps" here, although it's quite possible that some could develop out of scribbles on napkins at the Coffee Corner.
Nor am I just talking about new "approaches" that help to improve sales and use of the new technologies that SAP is currently marketing.
I'm also talking about "new approaches" that help to keep a small corner of SAP focussed on real IT and real business computation, so that SAP doesn't wind up sacrificing one kind of core competency for a newer kind.
Of course, I also agree with Mark Finnern (in his first post to the "Coffee Corner")  that the "Corner" should be a casual and care-free place as well as "heavy" place for serious discussions.
But however SDNers choose to use it, they SHOULD use it.
And SDN management/adminsitration deserve all the congratulations and admiration they SHOULD get for setting it up.
Peace out.

For the record, I've been using Yahoo Music Engine (PlaysForSure software) and Creative Zen players since September, 2005, with great success. I rip my own CDs, have purchased downloads, and have over 000 subscription tracks transfered to my players. I have over 20 playlists I update. Some almost daily.
The Creative Zen Micro we had in September 2005 was stolen in November 2005. Replaced it with a Zen Microphoto. I just picked up a Zen Vision: M several weeks ago.
All of them work.
Here's the things I would recommend:
Go to the Creative Support site and download all of the other support software. Don't just download the firmware. The supporting software may have updates too. I had to do this with the Zen Micro because PlaysForSure was a firmware update I had to apply for myself back then.
Download the Windows Media Player 0http://www.microsoft.com/windows/win...0/default.aspx
Try Yahoo Music Enginehttp://music.yahoo.com/musicengine/
Both are free. The subscription music services cost extra.

• Great PL/SQL enhancements in the 10.1.2 version

Hello,
Great enhancements with the Forms 10.1.2 PL/SQL engine
1) This version of the PL/SQL engine, now, support the INDEX BY VARCHAR2() syntaxe.
So, it is possible to use direct acces to a varchar2 collection element.
PACKAGE PKG_COLLECTION IS
      TYPE Typ_Rec_Emp IS TABLE OF EMP%ROWTYPE INDEX BY VARCHAR2(100) ;
      Rec_Emp Typ_Rec_Emp ;
      PROCEDURE Populate ;
END;
PACKAGE BODY PKG_COLLECTION IS
      PROCEDURE Populate
      Is
        Cursor CUR is SELECT * FROM EMP ;
        Rec    CUR%ROWTYPE ;
      Begin
           Open  CUR ;
           Loop
             Fetch CUR Into Rec ;
               Exit When CUR%NOTFOUND ;
               Rec_Emp( Rec.ENAME ) := Rec ;
           End loop ;
           Close CUR ;
      End ;
END;Then retrieve the whole collection in Forms and provide a direct access on the name attribut:
Declare
         key varchar2(100) ;
Begin
      :BLOCK.TEXT_ITEM := '' ;
      key := PKG_COLLECTION.Rec_Emp.First ;
      -- display the whole collection content --
      Loop
            Exit when key IS NULL ;
            :BLOCK.TEXT_ITEM := :BLOCK.TEXT_ITEM || PKG_COLLECTION.Rec_Emp( key ).ename || CHR(10) ;
            key := PKG_COLLECTION.Rec_Emp.Next( key ) ;
      End loop ;
      -- Direct access to the 'SMITH' line in the collection --
      Message( 'Smith salary is : ' || To_char(PKG_COLLECTION.Rec_Emp( 'SMITH' ).sal) ) ;
End ;
2) CLOB pl/sql variable easyest handling
In the previous versions, it was not possible to handle CLOB pl/sql variables and
store them in a table. We should use a TEXT ITEM between.
In the 10.0.2, you can, now, handle CLOB pl/sql variable
CREATE TABLE TEST_CLOB( ID NUMBER(5) PRIMARY KEY, C_LOB CLOB ) ;
Declare
         c_lob   CLOB ;
Begin
      c_lob := Lpad( 'x', 10000, 'x' )
            || Lpad( 'y', 10000, 'y' )
            || Lpad( 'z', 10000, 'z' ) ;
      Insert Into TEST_CLOB Values ( 1, c_lob ) ;
      Commit ;
End ;Francois
