Greater FSB syncho with memory

Some time ago I found a notice, that there is impossible to get FSB syncho with memory more then 180-190MHz on many nForce2 mobo's with DualChannel.
In fact, when I bought my new hardware FSB=182MHz at 6-2-2-2 was MSI K2N7-L limit testing under GoldMem. Even 183-185Mhz with slow timings was generated some errors.
But I found some tips, what can help with this problem:
http://forum.tweak.pl/viewtopic.php?t=27840
Translating above: It helps to mount some radiator on south bridge. I made such passive cooling on my board and sudennly FSB at 195Mhz with 6-2-2-2 timings worked with no errors, and 207 with 7-3-3-2 (I didn't check more).
It seems that such modification sometimes can help because of south bridge ovetheating - I've checked that even with radiator this bridge is quite hot.

The main reason you could not hit 200FSB with that ram is  3000 to run 200FSB in sync without overclocking you need 3200.  You were useing aggresive timmings and trying to overclock you ram to much. You relaxed the timmings and got a little farther. Also your ram is not NForce 2 approved ram and has been having lots of problems with other users.  Running in sync with 200FSB is not hard to do at all if you have the right ram.
P.S.
i see in your sig that you have MSI K7N2-L BIOS 5.2 I think you mean the K7N2-Delta-L

  • AMD FSB compatibility w/ memory ?

    Simple question here...
I have an MSI K7N2 Delta-ILSR that the CPU took a dive for some reason.  (It was an AMD Athlon XP 1700.)
I want to get the AMD Athlon XP 3000+ "Barton".  The 333 and 400 FSB are the same price.
Will the 400 FSB work with memory clocked at 333?  Or should I use 333 FSB CPU for compatibility with the memory I have?

you must run cpu/fsb ratio at 1.1
so there is no point in a 400 cou unless the ram can do 400 as well
running cpu faster than ram it will run poor and infact be slower

  • Who gets past 240 FSB and with what BIOS/settings?

I hope that folks at MSI are working hard for a BIOS fix.
I don't understand how some guys are reporting FSBs of higher than 240, but I'm totally stuck there, no matter what I do. BIOS 1.2B5 made no difference at all.
Just you MSI guys make sure that all these are BIOS issues and not hardware related. My CPU has not reached its limit at 240FSB and I want it.  Oh, and same goes to AMD   for locking the higher multis. If they were not locked, I'd have been just perfectly pleased

Using the 1:1 ratio, I have managed to get to 2.15GHz (10x215fsb), with the memory at 2-3-5-2 (2.85V).  CPU voltage is default, and I've also run up to 225fsb with this config, although I have to slacken memory timings.
I have also used a 6:5 memory divider to try and see how far I can push the fsb/cpu speed.  I got up to 225fsb (2.25GHz cpu speed), again on default voltage and it was perfectly stable.
However the problems start when I try and go over 230 fsb, the board just will not POST.  I have kept the memory running below 200Mhz when trying this, and have even used 9x multiplier, 3xHTT etc...with no luck.
The highest I ever got it to POST on was about 232fsb (using 9x multiplier)
See my posts on my memory tests:  https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?threadid=54265&sid=
I found two great brands of ram that allow me to run at 230 and 235fsb 4ht 1:1 with 2.7V 1t-2.5-3-3-10 timings. They both passed 30 rounds of memtest86 with no errors at this speed. Cpu@ 2350 mhz @ 1.6V

  • Question for those with memory issues on k8n neo plat

I have been having issues with my memory on the k8n neo platinum board since i built the system last month and i just recently discovered a fact I had overlooked.
I Have discovered that  if i test the system while it is cool (having sat turned off overnight for example), then memtest will pass the ram just fine and the system will be stable for a short period of time, generally longer if no intensive applications are used, ie. doom3 vs. websurfing).
This system, once it heats up ( seems mostly to be the nvidia 3 nb that needs to be "hot"- that is, a probe placed in contact with the module reaches about 58+ degrees c) then the system becomes unstable and memtest, if used, fails.
Prime95, if used on it when its cool, will usually take about an hour or so to fail, but if its used on the system when its been running a bit ( temps from nb at 58c+ and memory module hot to the touch) then it fails after about 20-30 seconds.
I have placed an active hs on the nb in an attempt to correct this, but temps still remain high with failures occuring.
I have spent the better part of three days testing the sytem this way and the above facts have held true in all these tests.
I have  tested at stock ratings ( not using "auto" in bios, but using "approved ratings" of 10 x 200 for fsb and timings of 2-3-3-7 for my ram at 1:1 (which is recommended as well) since i am testing for base stability at this point;Voltages have been left at auto settings, however.
I was wondering if anyone else with memory issues could try this out and post if this seems to be the case for you as well.
Perhaps the memory issues on these boards are directly related to a problem with the nvidia 3 chipset running too hot?
Does anyone have a memory issue with these boards who is using water cooling on the NB ?
Lack of issues from people using 'problem" memory, but having no failures with water cooled nb's would support my assumption.

    Yes i did mean chipset.
I am using a stock hs/fan from amd, which seems to run a tad hot but, considering that I wont overclock until I can get board stable, its not an issue. (runs 35-40 idle and up to 72 intensive). I need the warranty more then the extra mhz at present.
I removed the stock heatsink from the nvidia chipset and bought a generic chipset cooler (green, very little in the way of fins and seems to be aluminum) with a small fan.
I used a generic silver paste from Compusa to adhere both the cpu hs and the chipset.
I didnt lap either hs, just installed each as per instructions on artic silvers website (figured it had to go on the same way even generic).
I also bought a kingwin thermal center which i ran probes from to the cpu, case, and nb chipset.
I am not using it to adjust fans so those arent connected - its just a reference temp I can see at a glance, esp considering the funky bios reading this boards been known to give.
I assume from these responces that even a nvidia 3 250 chipset shouldnt get as hot as mine?
I asked about that from the retailer i bought this from but he seemed to think it was "ok" at 50ish celcius, but then again he didnt look too confident when he said it, lol.
Idle right now reads on Corecenter at 28 celcius for cpu and 33 celcius for the chipset, although, I have readings of 37 c and 43 c from the kingwin thermal center, which i believe to be more accurate.
My voltage reads at 11.67 for the 12v line at idle right now.
The psu i got is stick from the xblade case i bought in store. (http://www.xoxide.com/xblade2.html)
I have a dvd burner, cd drive, and two maxtor ide hd's attached to the system; The only card is the agp.
Is there a way to check and see if the cpu ispower starved? software monitor or even an external probe perhaps?
I havent put a probe on it, but the ram came in its own heatspreader, which gets very hot to the touch as well.
What temps should I be looking for on these items?

  • Cant boot with memory in duel mode!!!!

For some reason my computer will now longer boot up with memory in the duel mode and OCing the system. I keep getting a timing error. Tried several different timings all giving me the same thing or it locks once windows opens. Runs fine OC'd in single mode, just cant get it to boot in duel anymore. Any help would be great, left me know if you need any sys info and such.

I Really think that your Problems are due to the Fact that you are using that "Older" BIOS version , I think that once you Upgrade to a Newer (At least BIOS 1.7)BIOS Version Vresion you will Be Able to Run in Dual-DDR Mode, I suggest that you  Use "Live-Update-3", and Choose the DOS Option and "Flash" yor BIOS...Just make certain that you do NOT Choose the Flash through "Windows" Option when Prompted, Remember Coose the "DOS" Option ...........Sean REILLY875

  • New to Oracle - could really use help with memory configuration

I'm new to Oracle and am assuming the support role on a system that is using Oracle 8.1.7 as the database server and need help with memory configuration.
The server is being used with FileNet and we're having issues while trying to purge logs (purge never completes) and the disk drive activity LED is on almost solid. My guess is is that it's not using enough/doesn't have enough memory therefore constantly reading off the disk and going too slow to finish the purge between nightly backups in which the database service is stopped.
The server is running on Windows 2000 Server SP4, has 1G of RAM and is dual-Xeon processor.
Any help or starting point references would be greatly appreciated.

  • Strange problems with memory dimms(Banks) in imac 27in mid2010

Hello dear Apple community. I had a really strange problem with memory dimms(modules anyway)
I have one really good imac 27in with i7 but as you know after some years the lcd screen became yellowish and cloudy
So i decided to clean it as i have some knowledge and i did that to others lcd screens with success.
OK so after successfully cleaning and working like new ( i mean not the external screen with magnets but the lcd internally)i started it.
Before dismantling my memory was 16gb ( 4x4 dimms)
After starting it a strange problem arise without any reason! Memory reduced TO 8 GB!!!! memory banks on the right as we seeing it didnt worked at all
and it was not from dimms because i swapped them..!!!
So after a lot of thinking and asking tech guys to take a second opinion all the saying (including me that logic board failed for some strange reason.
Some days before i installed CCleaner and also Onyx because after a lot of installations and uninstallations my mac became a little sluggish..
I thought that some serious preferences files removed or some hardware settings deleted with Onyx ( is very good and powerful program that can fix the pc and also destroy it in a second) so i removed and reset all preferences. But nothing changed.. So i put a new hard drive and reinstall OXS to see if something can change.
After formating HD to appleHFS+ saw system profiler that still couldn't see all banks(16gb). I remove logic board and i put another processor i7 that i have as a back up and still nothing( some saying that only these 2 things must be faulty if memory banks not working , processor an logic board and sometimes reinsatlling OS can fix it as i mentioned before. But still nothing...
So from my nerves and after so much testings and no sleeping for 2 days as it was working i pulled off the memory modules from the right bank i put them again ( off course nothing changed) and i close it. After i restarted it like a miracle finally i saw that i have again 16gb in system profiler!!
Tech guys here please give me an explanation to this because i gooing crazy! What happened and after i pulled off the dimms while it was working the problem fixed?? It is not recomended at all this action. I forgot to mention that i did Apple hardware test and nothing found..
    Sorry for long post.

Okay great news...  My memory problems are solved and my Mac Mini is now running at 8 gigs of Ram. I tried the suggested DD3 1333 which  the computer wouldn't even recognize.
So after visiting the Apple Store in the Fair Oaks VA shopping mall; they suggested that I try DDR3 8500 ram.    I visited Micro Center in Vienna VA, and I purchased BGreg's Suggested Crucial Brand Ram.  10 minutes after I got home the Mac Mini booted on the 1st try with 8 gigs of Ram.
Some venting that Apple hopefully will read and mention to their resellers....
The people in the Apple section of MicroCenter in Vienna at first argued that the Mac Mini only supports 4 gigs. EVEN AFTER I SHOWED THEM THE SPECS on the Apple website.  The clerk (who I am calling a clerk because by no means was he a "specialist") even suggested that the Apple site was wrong.  On a later visit to MicroCenter to purchase the DDR3 8500, that the people at Apple recomended; Microcenter even suggested and argued that I needed DDR3 1333 and NOT DD3 8500.  THIS WAS AFTER I TOLD THEM THAT Mac Mini WOULD NOT RECOGNIZE the DD3 1333 Dimms.   Working in retail myself I don't go along with the concept that the customer is always right, however in this instance clearly I was.
I should point out that some of the staff in Microcenter really do try hard, however like with any business it only takes a few "know it all" bad examples to turn customers off.
Curious post thought; I wasted about $75 in gas driving to and from Microcenter because of their bad advice.

  • MIXING ORIGINAL APPLE MEMORY WITH MEMORY FROM ANOTHER MANUFACTURER

    Hi everyone,
I'm about to hop on the mac train and buy a macbook 2.16GHz( the recent previous black model)
It's coming with 1GB of memory and I wanted to buy 2GB to add to it. I found a good deal for a OWC 2GB DDR2 PC2-5300 667MHz DIMM(it's one stick of 2GB).
Is it compatible to mix different memory makes and if so, is it also optimal? Would the optimizing power be the same if I used all the memory from one manufacturer or it makes no difference? Thanks.

    bdkjones wrote:
As long as the memory is by a major manufacturer (Samsung, Hynix, Micron, etc) it should not matter.
You do get a slight advantage by using 2 of the same capacity RAM modules. (i.e. 2x1GB chips or 2x2GB chips). In practice, however, this performance gain really isn't noticeable. You have to run a memory benchmark test to see the difference.
I remember there was this supposed IT guy who claimed that different brands of memory "fight it out". Some of the answers were absolutely hilarious. Seriously, there's nothing that consistent about a single brand of memory. There are always variations, but I wouldn't worry about a thing provided the memory actually meets its published specs. You get variation quality with memory modules that aren't fully-branded by one of the major memory IC manufacturers, but there are some reputable brands out there (OCZ, PNY, Patriot, etc).
I have an iBook G4 1.42. For two+ years I've been running the permanent Samsung memory with a 1 GB Micron PC2700 module. I've never encountered anything that suggests that there is a problem with it.
I've also read the Intel specs on what the chipset does with memory sized identically. Apparently it can do that very same thing (memory interleaving) even if the sizes aren't matched. However - it'll only do that for up to the size of the smaller module, and the remainder of the larger module isn't interleaved.

What is the best way to deal with memory leak issue in sql server 2008 R2.
I have heard of memory leak in OS that too because of some external application or rouge drivers SQL server 2008 R2 if patched to latest SP and CU ( may be if required) does not leaks memory.
Are you in opinion that since SQL is taking lot of memory and then not releasing it is a memory leak.If so this is not a memory leak but default behavior .You need to set proper value for max server memory in sp_configure to limit buffer pool usage. However
sql can take more memory from outside buffer pool if linked server ,CLR,extended stored procs XML are heavily utilized

  • Problems with Memory on upgrading

Problems with Memory. I Dide not hace space to upgrade. Now i do, but It still cancels for lack of space

Actually, your problem does not sound like memory, but hard drive space. By default, you lose 10% of your drive to the OS and formatting. To tell how much hard drive space you have go to:
    >Finder
    >At the bottom of finder in the gray bar it will tell you how much space you have available on your hard drive.
Your hard drive should be no more than 85% full! If it is, delete, get a larger hard drive, remove items to an external drive.
GarageBand only needs 1.2 MB of space.
In order to use GarageBand, some additional content is required. If you do not already have the content installed, it must be downloaded.
Make more disk space available by moving some of your files to a different disk (such as an external hard disk or a USB flash drive), or by deleting files you don't need and then emptying the Trash

  • What is better high fsb or tight memory timmings?

for all the overclock masters out there what do you think is better high fsb or tight memory timmings?

You should really read the sticky posts as they hold the answers.
This one in particular as it relates very closely to youyr setup.
    https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=74799.0
FSB is way more important to OC'ing any modern Athlon. In fact as the memory controller resides within the CPU now unlike in past rigs too tight of timings will certainly have a negative impact on how far you can OC. The reason is that as you increase the FSB your also increasing the RAM clocks. RAM will usually fail an OC before a CPU will. So you really should read that topic and learn more about how these rigs OC now days and what you will need to know to be successful at this.

  • Problem with memory usage and CPU usage

    Hello,
i have a problem with the memory usage and cpu usage in my project!
My application must run for more than 24 hrs. The problem is that the longer it runs the bigger is the memory and cpu usage!
It starts with ~15% CPU usage and ~70 MBytes memory usage. After ~ 24hrs the CPU usage is ~60% and the memory usage is ~170 MBytes!
After  3 days the CPU usage is almost about 70% and the memory usage is about 360 MBytes!
What can I do to reduce this huge recource usage?
    Thank you!

    Hi Pahe,
I think the issue is memory usage, since CPU usage can increase due to greater memory requirements.
Anyway, it's difficult to debug without seeing your code, can you post it (possibly for LV 7.1 compatibility)?  Or just post a JPEG of the piece of code that can give problems...
I guess you're appending data to an array instead of replace data elements, but I can't be sure...
       Have a nice day!
