"Greatest Hits" and cover flow

Hi all,
In iTunes I have several "Greatest Hits" albums. Each of these has a different artist.
I have the following info set for each album.
Album, Artist, Album Artist, Art Work, grouping and disc number.
In coverflow (and music -> album) there is an entry for each album, however, each entry has all of the tracks for every "Greatest Hits" albums.
So for example:
Album A - Artist A - Tracks X Y Z
Album B - Artist B - Tracks U V W
I get entries for
Album A - Artist A and Album B - Artist B. But both contact Tracks U V W X Y Z.
This isn't what I would expect to happen.
Anyone seen this before or know how I can sort it out?

There isn't any option as far as I know other than to change the names of these albums so they are not the same.
I noticed this a while back where I had 3 albums loaded onto my iPod all simply called "Best of" but by different artists (The Georgia Satellites, The Icicle Works and Gerry Rafferty).
When I selected The Georgia Satellites album I saw the iPod displaying over 60 tracks even though there were only 20 on the album. That's when I found tracks by the other two artists mixed among the GS album.
I've now made sure that these "Best of" or "Greatest Hits" albums all contain the name of the artist in the title.

"Greatest Hits" confuses Cover Flow and Playlists

Hi,
I have several albums by different artists titled "Greatest Hits" on my nano.
When I browse by Cover Flow or Playlists all the songs from every album titled "Greatest HIts" are listed.
My nano has the latest software. Does anyone have a cure?

There's a workaround you can use, there's no definitive "cure" as such that I can quote for you. Add the Artist name to the title such as "Artist A - Greatest Hits", "Artist B - Greatest Hits" etc. Possibly some future version of the software may come along to sort the problem out permanently

Album View and Cover Flow View are not available in iTunes 7

Hi,
When I connect my iPod, in the iTunes 7, the options for Album view and Cover Flow View are disabled for the song list on my iPod. I only have a list view for them. However, at the same time, the songs on the library can be viewed in any of the three (3) views.
What might be the possible reason and is there any options to view your iPod songs in Cover Flow View in iTunes (while it is connected)?
Please solve this query of mine.

Blurry/Scaled Down Artwork Column and Cover Flow are in 9.2

i have noticed on my iMac 27" that the album artwork is really blurry, and when i double click the art work at the left bottom and enlarge it, it looks fine. For some reason Apple scales down the pixel size of images and it looks really blurry. Before it was the standard 600x600 artwork that looked beautiful but not anymore..
This is an infuriating problem as I have taken a lot of time to embed high res art in my fles. The art still remains hi res in the bottom left, but in cover flow or the album artwork column it is a crappy looking blurry image.

I noticed this also. And yes, it infuriates me too. I used to browse my music collection in Cover Flow on a 46" LCD. Not any more since iTunes 9.2. iTunes 9.2 comes with several new features and improvements, including this one: "Album Artwork improvements make artwork appear more quickly when exploring your library".
It turns out that the album artwork cache build by iTunes consists of scaled down copies with a size of 128x128!!! These scaled down copies are used in the album artwork column, grid view, and cover flow. Not much you can do about it except give feedback (http://www.apple.com/feedback/itunesapp.html). That's what I did.

Safari 4's Top Sites and Cover Flow is missing!

So I downloaded the new Safari beta and tried it out. Top Sites and Cover Flow was missing and I couldn't find it anywhere. I installed the latest graphics driver for my computer but still no top sites. Ugh - THE PAIN!
Specs: Windows XP Pro SP3, 75GB HD, 512 RAM, 96MB intel GRAPHICS.

is your graphics card compatible with DirectX 9.0 and,
also do you have DirectX 9.0?
if you don't you need to get it, without CoverFlow and TopSite's don't work

Album view and Cover Flow problem

Well, im going to get one of the new ipods soon and they have that Cover Flow feature which is pretty cool. Anyway i have a problem, when i try and sort them by album, i go to Album View and even if the album names are the same, they arnt in the same box, because they have various artists. Ill show some pics now.

See how they arnt in the same box because of their artists? Then when i go to Cover Flow tab, to see how it will look on my ipod it comes up like this

All the ones without artcovers so far, are all the songs from the album "MOS" like you saw in the previous picture. So does anyone know how to fix that problem? Because i dont want like 20 MOS albums showing up on the Ipod with only 1 song in each of them when i can have them all in one.

You need to select the "Compilation" button on each to overide the fact that there is a different artist for each song. think about it, the chances of two different artists having the same name for an album is pretty big. How is any music jukebox supposed ot know that they're the same....
select all the songs, open apple/control "I" and click on compilations on bottom right.

Visualizer and cover flow crash iTunes in Leopard

I don't know what's happening, but both WERE working fine shortly after I got my late 07 BlackBook. I checked out the new visualizers, I checked out cover flow in full screen, and all was well.
At some point something happened that prevents visualizers from starting or cover flow from working. Starting or selecting either will cause iTunes to hang until it quits or (most of the time) I have to force quit iTunes.
Most of the time I click "Report" and I don't even get the dialog window to send the report to apple. Everything else seems to work fine. Audio and video playback and video playback at full screen.
I tried removing ALL plugins from HD > Library > iTunes > iTunes Plugins. Then restarting. Still didn't work. I put them back. Still. The folder User > Library > iTunes > iTunes Plugins was empty and still is.

Is that something that Apple will take a support call for? my BlackBook is only two months old and well within the warranty period. I need some help!

I fixed my problem and put details on this other forum post. I had another problem and the same procedure fixed both problems.

Unable to view microsoft office files (2011) with quick view and cover flow

I am unable to view office for mac 2011 files in quick view or cover flow. All I see is the generic icon and not the preview. I've searched a number of forums but haven't found a solution.

Yea, I did do a Time Machine restore not too long ago. Perhaps that was the cause. In any case, I went by the apple store day before yesterday to see if they could help me (I use quick look a lot!), and the tech's opinion was the my whole system was running slow and buggy, so he suggested to go ahead and spend the time doing a clean install of the OS. I did this yesterday... quick look for office docs is back, and my system is soooooo much faster and problem free now. Looking back, the ability of OS X to reinstall without erasing the boot disc is a blessing and curse. I upgraded instead of cleanly reinstalling when I got Snow Leopord, and recently did a time machine restore when I was having some problems. With windows, I was doing a clean reinstall at least once a year. Perhaps doing it once every two years or so is a good idea for mac. The biggest headache is importing all my old mailboxes into mail, and sorting through the duplicates that get created.

My music and cover flow question??

I have a ton of songs loaded on the iPhone and can view them and listen to them just fine, but when I rotate the iPhone to cover flow mode I can't view ALL of my songs why is this?? Is EVERYONE having this issue?? Is this an issue or is it just me? When I go back to list mode all my songs are there and I can view them and select them. After I select a song that wasn't originally showing up in cover flow and rotate again now its there??? Weird! Whats going on??

A quick update to this ... I tried grabbing art for a single song and it didn't insert it into the song file (I checked the filesize) but seemed to put the image into a folder ./iTunes/Album Artwork.
So my updated question to this is ... where is the ipod going to look for the album art? Will iTunes embed the album art into the song as it is transferred to the ipod? Or is the ipod going to have a similar separate folder like iTunes?

1080p HD AND cover Flow

On Lumia devices why not make A media player Called Nokia Player
inside will be music and video player.The Music player will have cover flow like in the Symbian^3/Anna/belle phones.
The Video player that Supports Mkv,flv,divx,avi,Mp4,Mp4(Avc-1),3gp,3gp2,WM9,Dat files at 1080p hd at 30fps
now that's Awosome.

I think because the Zune player is pretty good on its own.
I'm not sure I understand the purpose of being able to playback 1080p video on a display that's 800px on its long side. And... just how HD does video need to be on a 3.7" display? I like crisp as good as anyone else, but you can keep that by simply doing a good video compression of an HD source file.
I took an uncompressed version of Scott Pilgrim vs. the World (25GB .m2ts file) and compressed it using handbrake down to 960x512 .m4v 695MB file. It plays beautifully.
Long story short. A well compressed HD video does not need to maintaint its 1080p format to still look good.

For The Experts: Quick Look and Cover Flow?

I have not been able to find the answer to my question anywhere on the internet. I thought that some of you experts out there may be able to help me.
I deal with thousands of files all the time that are essentially text files (i.e .txt). I have one problem though. They end with the extension .01 for Jan, .02 for Feb etc. If I rename the extension on one of these files to .txt, I can view them in Cover Flow and I can also see the contents by using Quick Look.
Unfortunately, I cannot rename the extensions on all these files to .txt, because they need to be sent to various departments and cannot be changed.
Does anyone know if it is possible to make Cover Flow and Quick Look think that these are text files?

Hello. SetFile, just like any other console tool, can accept wildcards. For example:
Set the attribute of all files in the directory named mydocs:
<pre>
/Developer/Tools/SetFile -t TEXT /Users/whuggy/mydocs/*
</pre>
You can also use the more powerful 'find' command: Find all files in your 'mydocs' directory that ends with '.01' and set them as a text file:
<pre>
find /Users/whuggy/mydocs -name "*.01" -exec /Developer/Tools/SetFile -t TEXT {} ';'
</pre>
This means: find stuff inside mydocs directory whose name ends with ".01"; on each item you find execute the command /Developer/Tools/SetFile -t TEXT to it. The '{}' placeholder is substituted with the filepath of an item. And the ';' at the end designates the end of that command.

Shuffling and cover flow

Hello all,
Is it just me or does shuffle not work when you select a song while in cover flow. I have made sure shuffle songs is selected in the main menu and when from the now playing list I have tried shuffle songs and albums. But after a whole album plays it goes back to the cover flow. Am I doing something wrong? Oh, I am using the 80gb Classic v 1.1.1.

Shuffle works on the current playlist. When you select an album/track from cover flow the current playlist becomes the album you selected.

When I upgraded to Mavericks the cover flow or the preview pane in finder don't show a thumbnail of an uncompressed quicktime movie. I use this to search for the correct clip so it was very useful in prior versions of OS X but appears to be left off in Mavericks. If anyone knows a work around I would appreciate it since I work with thousands of video clips. To click each one seems very tedious.
Also, when I click on an uncompressed video, quicktime "converts" the video to some different format. Why doesn't it just play the video instead of converting? Is there a way to stop this? I hate have to say - no I don't want to save this file.
Arrgh!

Does anyone in the community have insite into this issue (same with animation compressed QT's). Is this just the way it is moving forward (a terrible thing) or is it a bug that will be fixed in the near future. Apples silince on if this is a "feature" or a "bug" is frustrating.

Audiobooks and Cover Flow

Hi there,
since nearly 10 days I'm an Ipod Classic user with all the sweet things you get from it ... but one thing bothers me: Since I use the Ipod to hear some Audiobooks (as they are in the category of Music - Audiobooks) i was disappointed to see that there is no Cover Flow within this Category. As this in done in iTunes i was thinking why this is not the case on the iPod since it would be easier to navigate through the file you have. Anyone got the idea why or how this can be accomplished?

Why? A design choice. How? It's not a feature you currently have user control over. It's one of the reasons I haven't bothered converting my Audiobooks from regular mp3s into the dedicated Audiobook format.

How can I get column sorting to work again when column sort is stuck on release date in the different views (list, album list, and cover flow) in my PC?

I can't sort using other columns because the sorting is stuck/ locked on release date. This is only true for my iTunes U Library. My other libraries and playlists for Music, Movies and TV Shows, Books can be sorted.
