Greatly decreased sound quality in headphones/computer speakers

I'm using a dm4 notebook with Win 7 64-bit OS.
The trouble is that the sound coming through my headphones has reduced in quality, sounds quite tinny.  The master volume also cannot be turned up as loud as it did before.  When the headphones are unplugged, the computer speakers have reduced in volume as well.
Under "playback devices" the only devices are "Speakers and Headphones" and "Communications Headphones." There is no "Independent Headphones" device.  So right now the only device being used is Speakers and Headphones, which makes me think that before the problem occured there was another device that made the headphones sound better.
I checked the audio driver for updates, but it says that the lastest is already in use.
So I don't know what happened to change the quality in sound, and I don't know how to get it back to the quite excellent sound it had before.
Any help would be appreciated.

Speakers and Headphones is correct setting.Have you checked you support page for an update for your Audio driver?Get your Product Number by pressing Fn + Esc key or check the Service Tag attached to bottom, may be under battery.

  • Possibility to route Sound? (connect headphone and speakers at the same ti

Hi is it possible to route the sound of my X-FI Titanium (PCIe)?
I want to connect Headphone and 2. Speakers at the same time and want to be able to decide where the sound comes out.
It wasnt possible with my previous audigy 2zs, but it thought now it could be possible, because every cheap onboard sound can do that.
The only solution so far was to choose stereo surround but that wont work in games because most games recognise 4 speakers and some sound is missing.
    Any hints?
    Thanks in Advance

I used to be able to do that in XP with an SB Li've 024 which?was like 2+2 stereo card before 5. came out.
Thinking....maybe somethig like [url="http://www.pccables.com/images/05004.jpg">this[/url]?(3.5mm STEREO JACK Y-SPLITTER ADAPTER) plugged into front out for headphones and front speakers.
You can also get a cable that does similar.

  • Sound switches between headphones and speakers?

    Hello,
I have an HP Pavilion dv6t laptop with Windows 7 64-bit installed. For some reason, when I have headphones plugged in, it will switch between headphone-sound and speaker-sound even when it's on a flat surface. I thought it was just my headphones at first so I used a friend's and that seemed to solve it, but it's happening again with a second pair of headphones. I've tried updating the sound drivers but it still does it.
    Any advice?

    Hey Jason,
Thank you for the reply. The same thing happens when the headphone is plugged in. It will work for a while, and then it'll start skipping. It's definitely a confusion thing, as there are even times when it plays through the speaker while the headphone is plugged in and tries to play through the headphone when it's unplugged. I've read about trying to tweak it with a hairpin or what not, but that hasn't produced any specific results.

  • Why is my bluetooth speaker connected but sound only comes out of the computer speakers?

My bluetooth speaker (JBL Charge 2) is shown as "connected in the blu tooth section of the task bar. I have also gone to system preferences and the speakers are also shown to be connected and chosen as the main speakers. However, no sound comes out of the bluetooth speaker but rather the sounds still comes out of the computer. speakers. I have tried connecting, reconnecting, and restarting computer. The bluetooth speaker is also shown as connected in bluetooth preferences. What is wrong?

I have tried to connect and Jambox and have the same problem; bluetooth speakers are connected and chosen but sound comes out of computer speakers.

  • Sound Preferences: switches from Internal Speakers to Digital Out

I've been having this problem recently. I sent the computer off to Apple a few weeks ago and it helped for a while, but no longer.
My computer has a problem with it's sound output jack or something. Without inserting anything into the plug, the Sound will change for "Internal Speakers" to "Digital Out" and to "Built-in Output" in the Sound Preferences Panel.
    Any suggestions?

I have a 4 month old macbook and experiencing the same problem. Just realized it after installing itunes 8 and since then having a stuttering audio playback problem too. When i plug my headphones into the audiojack the sound switches from headphones to speakers and back as well as itunes playing tracks in a stop and go mode. I repaired the rights several times, installed quicktime 7.5.5 again, reinstalled itunes 8 and for sure running the latest leopard version 10.5.5.
Also thought it could be a hardware problem but after reading this it seems more software related.
    Any idea?

  • How do I make screen brighter and the sound quality better with W8 OS on my iMac through bootcamp assistant like it is with my mac os ?

How do I fix my screen brightness on my imac  via W8 OS on my Imac through boot camp assistant and How do I fix the quality of the sound coming from my imac when in w8?

Alright, first off, thank you for your help so far. I really appreciate it. However, now I have a new problem that I need help with.
I did exactly what you've said to do, and it worked fine, the screen itself became brighter again, it was just too dim before and the brightness settings were all the way up, but after doing what you said to do, It's as it is when using my Apple/Mac OS. The sound coming from the computer speakers and all the other audio issues have been fixed as well. It all sounds like it should in terms of quality. It's just now that I did that, I'll shutdown my computer, or even restart it for some reason, and each and every single time I do that, It's all back to the way it was before installing anything, dim and poor audio quality. Until I install the drivers again like before.
Am I going to have to get used to that or something? Or is there an option I'm just not seeing that would make these preferences and instalations permanent until I input/imply otherwise??
    Thanks in advance!!

  • Sound quality when burning an iMovie to disc

I just got iLife 9 and made a video using iMovie. The picture and sound quality on my computer are excellent; but when I burned the movie to a disc using iDVD the pictures remained high quality but the sound was poor. Any idea what might have caused the problem and what I can do to get better sound quality? Any help would be much appreciated.

    Problem found !
Karls answer's helped me to findout the issue.
    Nevertheless, this wasn't the bug.
When playing the movie in iMovie HD, sound rendering is not correct. When you burn your DVD, sound track is calculated to mix every sound tracks according to each sound volume curve defined in iMovie.
If you see a dot at the beginning of a sound track this mean that the DVD sound rendering will be incorrect.
Clean the and make sure that, when you select a sound object, you can change its volume by adjusting it, not manually, but using the general volume cursor. If not, you have a problem. Remake a perfect flat volume curve before adjusting it again.

  • Improve/extend equalizer and add 3D sound. Sound quality really poor.

I've been using the 2g nano for a while now and i must say the audio quality is really poor if compared with my 3 year old iRiver (which only has 256mb memory). Lots of people keep saying how great the sound quality is but i believe people saysing that just dont know any better. For those who do hear the difference the only satisfaction is the storage capacity.
The Equalizer is a big shock. People (even Apple fans) say its best to leave it off for improvement. Why ? because turned on the music gets heavily distorted. People even blame their earbuds. So people go off and buy a €40 earbud just for that extra bit of improvement which the nano should already provide with the nano itself.
So this is what should be done :
    - improve overall sound quality
    - add custom equalizer
    - add Xtreme 3D sound (= is a really big ++ iRiver users understand)

  • Dell xps 13 2015, flat and dull audio quality from headphones

    Hi!
Anyone else experiencing that the sound quality through headphones is very flat and bad? I get no bass response at all. The MAXX 3 programe does nothing that improves the actual audio frequency output. Support told me nothing is wrong with my system only that it is how it is. Electronic Music is unbearable. There is nothing wrong hardware wise with my headphone jack it is just the missing frequencies that drive me mad.

nor does the driver update window show anything else than the realtek driver
Here is another method of installing the Windows native audio driver.
    1. Open the Device Manager (Control Panel>Device Manager) and expand the "Sound, video and game controllers" category.
    2. Right click on "Realtek High Definition Audio" to open the context menu.
    3. Select to uninstall.
    4. Put a check in the box "delete the driver software for this device".  Don't skip this step.
    5. Restart the laptop. Windows will remove the current Realtek driver and its files and install the native audio driver (named "High Definition Audio Device").
Note: But If you had any older Realtek driver files on the hard drive Windows will install the older Realtek driver instead of the native driver. So go back to the Device Manager and see if there is another instance of Realtek High Definition Audio. If so, repeat the removal process and repeat as many times as necessary until there is no longer Realtek High Definition Audio in Device Manager.
After all Realtek driver files have been removed, you will see "High Definition Audio Device" in Device Manager.  [To get back to the Realtek driver after using this method, you have to download a fresh copy of it from the XPS 13 9343 support page.]
If you can get the native driver installed, check for the Speaker properties Enhancements tab.

  • Sound works with headphones but not with computer speakers

I've got an iPhone 3GS and an iPad. A few weeks ago I setup an older pair of computer speakers in my living room and I've been using that as a bookshelf stereo. I just plug in whatever device happens to be around, the phone or iPad to drive the music.
Tonight though, the iPhone will not output any sound to the computer speakers. It will play music through the external speakers without any issue - same for the iPod headphones. Originally I chalked this up to an issue with my speakers, but when I hook the ipad up to them, I get sound.
Any ideas as to what this could be? The phone worked fine until tonight and I've tried to restart the phone and turn it off.

    Hey polofson,
Thanks for the question. I understand you are experiencing issues with Siri in relation to your microphone. On the iPhone 5, Siri utilizes both the mic in the receiver opening and the mic near the rear camera. You may want to make sure these are not blocked (commonly by third-party cases):
    iOS: Troubleshooting Siri
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4079
Ensure that Siri can clearly hear you
If Siri is unable to clearly understand what you are saying, make sure your microphones are not blocked.
    iPhone 4s
Verify that the bottom microphone, located to the left of the dock connector, is not blocked.
    iPhone 5
Verify that both the mic in the receiver opening and the mic near the rear camera are not blocked.
    iPod touch (5th generation)
Verify that the mic near the rear camera is not blocked.
    iPad (3rd generation)
Verify that the mic at the top center, above the FaceTime camera, is not blocked.
    All models
    - If you are using a protective case, try removing it.
    - Try turning your device off and then on again.
    Thanks,
    Matt M.

  • HT2844 My front headphone jack does not work when connecting a head phone to a new mac pro desktop computer.  The sound still comes from the speakers.  Any solutions?

The front headphone jack on my new mac pro desktop computer does not transmit sound when connecting a headphone or ear buds.  The sound still comes from the speakers and is not redirected to the head phone.  The port has never worked.  Any solutions?

okay, try option-clicking on the speaker icon on the top of your screen. That should bring up a list of sound output options. including headphone. You could try messing around with Audio MIDI. It may be possible that the thing is still stuck inside the headphone jack. Careful use of a toothpick may get it unstuck. I dunno, I've never had a problem with the headphone jack. If all else fails, call Apple or take 'er in for an appointment

  • Sound randomly switches from headphones to speakers

    Hi,
I have a rather strange problem. This morning I turned on my Macbook, and the sound was doing something weird. It keeps switching between headphones and speakers, as if I'm plugging and unplugging them. Of course I have nothing plugged in, so the sound keeps cutting out and then coming back on. It switches about every two seconds, although rather sporadically. I tried to actually plug in some headphones, and this made the sound come out of the speakers rather than the headphones, and would only switch back and forth on its own once or twice a minute. After trying to restart twice, it just stopped doing this in the middle of me typing this message, and is now working fine. I had this happen once a while ago, but it stopped much faster last time, so I just didn't think of it. It isn't doing it now, but I'm worried it'll start again, and if it does, I can't very well use my computer, because it keeps doing that little click it does when switching, and I obviously can't use sound. It also makes the computer run slower in general when it does this, because it keeps switching the volume from what it was in headphone mode and in speaker mode. Does anyone know what causes this? I would love to avoid having this occur again...
    Thank you very much!
    Alex

Ditto here on sound on and off, with a slight variation from those described above -- and, possibly, a major pre-existing condition in development.
First, the possibly overarching issue: A few days ago, after air travel and all that entails, I was not able to boot up in the usual manner in an airport along the way. Once arrived at my destination I again kept getting the dread, small question mark midscreen beside a tiny version of the blue and white head profiles connected with the Mac logo. So I rebooted holding down Apple-C. After the screen scrolled through a few black and white screens of technical data in true PC nerd form, the machine did initiate the usual start-up screens. I logged in and was able to manipulate all programs. On the following day, I had the same problem turning on the machine. I have not dared turn it off since then.
New Issue: Intermittent Sound. I opened Safari and iTunes today. The audio cuts out after a few seconds, but I can regain it by tapping into the internet streaming with the headphone jack. Then the audio through the headphones cuts off. When I pull out the headphone jack, I hear the speakers normally again. Then they go silent and I switch back to the headphones. This also happens when I am not on the internet but merely playing music files in my iTunes library. If I leave the machine to go to another room for a while, I sometimes hear the sound coming back randomly for short periods. All audio preferences have been checked out, and the First Aid utility verifies that the HD is OK. (The current HD was replaced six months ago, when I also got an external HD for backups.)
After the move to a new geographical area I am, of course, in the hands of a different cable provider -- in case that means anything. A second Mac, an iBook, which also made the trip, is working just fine beside this old machine. So is the motherboard (5 yrs old) beginning to die? Or is there a software fix?
Yes, I am currently backing up files to the external hard drive.
Many thanks, if you can offer a diagnosis. --JJ

  • Very poor sound quality on bluetooth headphones through HP Envy 700-074 desktop

I recently purchased a pair of Bose AE2W wireless bluetooth headphones to use with my HP Envy 700-074 desktop computer. After successfully pairing the headphones the sound quality is extremely poor. I know the headphones are not the pronblem since they sound beautiful when paired with my iPhone or iPad.
I have tried updating the driver, but I have the most current version installed according to the computer. Adjustment of the Beats Audio controls or any other sound controls does not help.

  • Zen Vision M - help with mp3 sound quality - decreases after trans

I use the Media Explorer to transfer songs from cd to the player. After?recently upgrading my OS to the XP service pack 2 (even though I don't know if this has anything to do with it), the sound quality of the mp3's has decreased when playing back on the player. Sound is real tinny. I checked the settings and?it's set to the highest quality. I always keep it at that and never change it. What am I missing here?

Check the transfer settings on WMP, it will often override and convert content when you transfer it even when you don't want it to.
Plug in your ZVm and wait for it to be recognized by your computer.Run Windows Media Player(in WMP)Tools->OptionsClick on "devices" tab (You should see your ZVM displayed in list)Click your ZVM in the list, and select propertiesClick the Quality TabChaing the settings from "Automatic" quality detection to manual and set alll the settings to the highest quality. Then give your transfers a try again.
