Greek Fonts

Hey,
I am new with Arch. Recently I have been trying to read a PDF document written in greek and I wasn't able because the text was really strange (Like a non-existent language). I had a look at Arch Wiki and I found two(2) greek fonts packages that I had to download and install. That were : otf-gfs and ttf-mgopen . I downloaded them and installed them. I was able to browse and read the text of a greek website (that i wasn't able to read before). But after I installed the pdf document, I cant read the contents. Any ideas?
Thanks.

check the output of `pdffonts <yourpdf>` and read up on font configuration.

  • Greek font word for mac 2011?

I have been attempting to download a greek font with diacritics. I have been using Ismini, which worked with word 2008, but the symbol function no longer supports the diacritics. Help would be appreciated!

There is no need to download any font for this.  You just use the Greek Polytonic keyboard layout provided in system preferences/language & text/input sources and type away.
It looks to me like ismini is a non-standard font that maps greek characaters to Latin.  I strongly recommend you move from that to the Unicode standard used by OS X and all modern computers, and for which fonts are already installed.

    Hi Scottie
What Colum proposed is the standard answer we have been giving for years and presently it's likely the best approach.
However, Adobe does listen to their customers. And I've seen this particular issue cropping up time and again through the years. So I'm going to suggest to you that you and everyone else wanting to see some changes here consider submitting a Wish Form to ask for a new capability. Ask Adobe to devise a way to allow the user to print in the manner you are seeking.

  • Greek fonts no longer display

In previous versions of FireFox all the Greek fonts on a website I use quite often were always displayed. Now I see that there are no Greek font displayed - just gibberish. This problem also occurs in the Opera Browser. However, they display just fine in Google Chrome. FireFox is my default browser so I hope you can help solve this problem. Thank you.

That is a Symbol font. It works for me on Linux (0x00-0x7f only), but may not work on Windows.

  • Greek font?

I know this is not the right place to post this, but I didn't know where else to post it, and I need your help!
I have this Word document in Greek and I need to translate it in English. I tried to copy and paste the text in Sherlock, but I'm getting little squares with x-es inaside them when pasted, so Sherlock translator is unable to translate it. Do I need a Greek font, or how can I make my keyboard to type in Greek because I need to translate this, soon.
    Thanks.

Adriatik -- you might also try copy/pasting your text into TextEdit, with the encoding set to UTF-8, and then again into Sherlock.
If nothing like that seems to work, there may be an encoding problem that could be hard to solve.
To type directly into Sherlock, go to system prefs/international/input menu and check the box for the greek layout, plus the box for "show input menu in finder." Then select greek in the "flag" menu at the top right of the Finder and type. You can see which key does what with Keyboard Viewer, which is activated the same way as the greek layout.

  • Display Greek font in design view

Hi, i have recently reinstalled DreamweaverMX on my Mac.
The mac is running OSX 10.4.6 and some things are different
now after the installment of DMW
I am struggeling with the greek font.
In my previously made sites I had no problem with displaying
the font in either code view or design view.
Now, opening the previously made files, they do not display
the Greek. neither in code view or designview. i get capitals with
dots on the top.. recognise that?
Does anybody know how to get this done properly for once and
    for all?
Unicode and UTF8 ? everywhere.. preferences 'fonts' and 'new
    document'

I have been trying some stuff but it didn't work out.
Maybe I need to Quit and restart Dreamweaver? I thought that
    wasn't necessary.
With the mac I can change from english to greek with a
keyoption. So that's not really the problem.
Hope someone can be of help!

  • Greek Fonts in InDesign

I use an Apple iMac with OS 10.5 Leopard.  I do have Greek fonts available and they work well with MS WORD and other software.  BUT .... they will NOT work with InDesign CS3.  I can't type Greek letters directly on an InDesign page.  Also, I can't successfully Copy/Paste from a WORD document containing Greek letters.  This is a very serious handicap for writing anything related to math or science since Greek letters are so widely used as math and science symbols.  Does anyone know of a way to get around this problem?  Thanks in advance for help.  Carl Thomas

    > I do have Greek fonts available and they work well with MS WORD and other software.  BUT .... they will NOT work with InDesign CS3.  I can't type Greek letters directly on an InDesign page.  Also, I can't successfully Copy/Paste from a WORD document containing Greek letters.
In what way do they not work? What happens when you input or paste Greek?
See the illustrated materials that follow below.
NOTE .... these illustrations were missing from my initial query.  All of these included images were originally  .png  format - - "clipped" from my computer screen.  The text, however, is the same as initially.
Are you getting missing font messages? What Greek fonts are you using?
No error messages of any kind.  Just the "little squares" that you will see in the third illustration below. ........... I'm not adequately knowledgeable about the font business to know "what kind" of fonts these are.  My only knowledge is as illustrated below.
This works well with MS WORD also.  To get this Greek font, I used the following.  All these fonts ... plus lots more ... are available originally with my iMac.
When I Copy/Paste that short material from Text Edit over into InDesign CS3, I get the following.  Lots of little squares where the Greek letters should be.  I get the same results if I try to type directly into InDesign.  ....... Incidentally, I have no problems with typing the other languages and special fonts into InDesign.
INCIDENTALLY ........ I am able to "get around" this problem in a slow and ponderous manner.  .... select Special Characters below......  it would be much more convenient to use a keyboard typed input as with the other languages.
and then select from various displays as below.  Example:  the lower right corner offers the equivalent of the Greek letter phi .... but as an object that can be copied and inserted, rather than as a letter that can be typed.
Thanks for your initial responses.   I hope someone can suggest some way to  handle the Greek letter typing inyo InDesign in the same way that I can do the Greek letter typing into Text Edit and into Word.
Have a very good week end.

  • Greek Fonts in iTunes

I have just installed Windows VISTA and although iTune was working fine in XP now i cant see greek fonts in iTunes library. However i can see the font on my iPod library when viewing it from iTunes. If anyone knows how to fix it please contact me!!!
    Dell Inspiron 6000   Windows XP

    Some of the
songs are in greek and I can read the letters
clearly. Others - while the music is fine - the tags
are garbled. I get the same results with some greek
    websites.
Nothing to do with fonts. Garbled tags means you need to change the ID3 tags for those songs to Unicode. See if this page helps:
    http://homepage.mac.com/thgewecke/mlingos9.html#itunes
As for websites, same thing: The encoding on your browser is not set correctly. Go to View > Text Encoding and try Greek ISO, Greek Windows, or UTF-8. If you provide a url I could provide more precise advice.
