Greek Programming

When is FIOS going to add more greek programming? There are more greek channels out there and I do not want to get satellite TV.

I think everyone here might find this VZ blog at least a bit informative, If you read the comments we are expecting to have at least one Greek channel by the end of the year, and any info about adding Greek channels will be updated in the blog http://community.vzw.com/t5/Verizon-at-Home/FiOS-TV-Speaks-Your-Language/ba-p/92748

• Mozilla does not pass correctly greek letters from mailto command to email program while IE passes them correctly

I am using windows xp greek with greek regional seetings and when I run a javascript using mailto command (either with utf-8 or iso 8859-7 encoding) , the subject and body of the message which were in Greek do not pass correctly to my email program while in IE pass correctly. Can you help me because many of the users who run the javascript are using mozilla firefox

Hi Nancy, nice to see you again. The CSS validator showed no errors.
The HTML validator showed irrelevant errors, e.g., missing alt tags and also the prefererence for using UTF-8 encoding instead of the older iso-8859-1 used throughout my website (because it displays better in DW 5.5).
The CSS validator link is quite useful, as I don't have a CSS validator in DW 5.5, unless I am missing something. For HTML validation, I can use "Shft-F6".

• GREEK INTERNATIONAL PROGRAMMING

I was a former customer of Direct TV where I had 4 Premium Greek Channels. I switched to Verizon Fios about 3 months ago because they said that they would be acquiring the same greek channels direct TV had.
I call FIOS almost everyday to find out an ETA on these channels but I seem to be getting nowhere. I would hate to cancel because I love the service but what good is the service if you cant watch your channels. Can anyone help??
Solved!
Go to Solution.

That's to bad, I was hopping we could tap in to this via Fios, it would be nice to have all GR channels that broadcast in North America. I would subscribe in a heart beat. I guess we need to start look else ware

• Issue in Inserting Greek characters in Oracle DB

We are facing the following issue in our project. Need urgent help.
We have a multilingual string(message with Greek characters) coming in from KSD gateway. This is to be processed by MHL(message handling layer- which validates and converts the incoming message into SQL statements and vice versa). Once the validation and conversion of incoming message is completed and then SQL statement is prepared, it inserts this data in the Oracle database. We are using OCI interface for database communication. Client program is written in C language. While inserting data in Oracle DB, we are getting exception as explained below.

I just bought a macbook pro with snow leopard. I learned about the program for free Lion. I purchased it from Italy, but i live in Greece and i have a greek account in apple. Can i take a redeem code via greek store? Or i have to take it from an italian account?

• Need update for Basics of Biblical Greek interactive cd for Mac osx Lion 10.7.5

I used to be able to use the Basics of Biblical Greek Interactive cd with my Mac osx. I upgraded to Mac osx 10.7.5 Lion and will not work with this mac. I can not find an upgraded program. I would like to continue using this program without the extra expense of buying a new cd. Does anyone know if there is an upgrade?

If that's the Mounce book, the publisher, Zondervan, appears to have discontinued the CD-ROM, but you can contact them and ask if any sort of upgrade is available. If this was under their "Pradis" line, though, they discontinued that in June of 2010 and provide no more support.

• Greek Character Display Problem

Hi
Server Side : We are using Oracle 8i . Database Character Set = UTF8.
Client Side: Windows XP. Modified Control Panel->Regional Settings -> Advanced->Language for non-unicode program = Greek.
Changed Alter session set NLS_Language = GREEK
When we opened the oracle connection in our VB application.
From our Visual Basic application
Now I am able to input greek chars, Retrieve it back and displayed correctly.
But When we copy a particular string and paste it in a field, one particular
character is always showing as ?. As we don't have a greek keyboard, I don't
know what combination of keys to press to key-in that particular character.
This is the Word I have copied from Editor and pasted it in the VB field.
Ονοµα επιßάτη .
Except the Character which looks like B, all other greek characters are getting displayed properly and inserted correctly in the database. Only that particular letter is displayed as ? (question mark)
Any idea what is wrong !!.
Thanks in advance.

• Switching off a program

we are implementing multiorg.we have a report for seven different countries which run the same report under different responsibilities.
this report uses a package that gets the required data into it.now my functional spec says this program is switched off for two countries like greek and turkey because this report does not support the functionality for that particular countries.
i need to change some logic in the package in that report.but i cant understand the meaning of switching off the program, as i am able to run the report from the responsibility for greek and turkey.
i changed the logic and trying to run the report for greek and turkey but still getting the old output.is this anything to do with the switching off the program.
this is AR reconciliation report.

Yes it is customized AR auto recon
Our development instance is recent refresh of the production instance and the auto reconciliation is turned off for greek and turkey in the production.
I don't know how they do that but i think this might be the reason
that i cannot run my changes in the development instance. Because when i run the same changes in other instance(a third one) i can find the difference in the output.
I am not sure about this.any inputs for this?

Not quite. Downloading the current version of NeoOffice is definitely not free (downloading the previous version is). The developers of NeoOffice (the most Mac-like of the StarOffice descendants) make a distinction between the application itself (which is free) and downloading it, for which they require what they are pleased to call a "donation" (since it's mandatory, I would call it a fee).

Would that include the report on the state of the US economy -- you know, the one President Obama asked you to deliver to the White House no later than 7AM on January 4? The one in two columns, with numbered paragraphs, table of contents, footnotes, mathematical formulae, 40 figures, 60 charts, quotations in Arabic, Japanese, and classical Greek, and 15 pages of references in APA style?
Grant Bennet-Alder is right -- "the real answer depends on what work you expect to do with it, and with whom you expect to do this work". There are dozens of word processors for Mac, from the venerable Word to the no less venerable Tex-Edit+. It would pointless to start listing them all, when many of them might be either too little or too much for your needs.

• Properties of a PDF that Affect Direct Text Copying to Other Programs?

I am using a program that Acrobat Pro XI does not convert its files to (e.g. word). Therefore, I select & copy sentences from PDFs and paste them into this program. Most of the time, copying special characters like the greek letter psi from a PDF shows up as “Y” when I paste it into the other program. However, there are some PDFs that actually paste psi correctly.
What’s interesting to note is that these different properties are observed in similar PDFs. For example, my professor posted lecture notes as PDFs: notes from lecture 4 allow me to copy&paste all special characters properly, while lecture 7 notes do not, even though they look very similar as documents.
Can anybody think of any properties/settings that may be different between the two PDFs? Even if I cannot fix the problem, at the very least I might be able to predict which ones allow direct copying.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Note: "Y" vs. "Psi" registration is independent of the program I paste into. Word follows the exact same copying trend as my other other program

Not sure why you cannot convert to WORD in AA XI. Just use File>Save As and select the WORD option.
As to the psi, it may be that the font used in one of the files was different and you do not have it on your computer, so the copy used the closest version it could find. You can use ctrl-D to check the fonts in the system. Since you mentioned psi, do not expect the conversion of mathematics to WORD to be done well or at all. It may be the fonts used were from MathType and you would need the MathType fonts on your machine in that case. It would be a lot easier if we could look at the PDFs, but they may not be available for general posting. If you like, you could try a private message and setup to send the files by e-mail to review.

• URGENT Problem with Greek Character from an Oracle database

Hello, I am having a serious and urgent problem with the character settings of an oracle database (8.1.7). The database is sitting in a solaris unix server and when we run the env command we have the following in the NLS_LANG parameter: AMERICAN_AMERICA.WE8ISO8859P1 (I do not know if this is helpful). When I retrieve data from oracle database (through a VB.NET 2005 program)to a dataset I use a special font in order to see the greek characters (HELLASARIAL). But when I am trying to save these data to a TXT file the greek characters are like Chinese to us. I tried several encodings (System.Text.Encoding.GetEncoding(869)) but without success. Can someone tell me how to convert the oracle greek characters during the selection or during the saving to the TXT file?
Please respond as fast as you can.
Thanks in advance

Here is the answer of the microsoft:
I have the information that you have a VB.Net 2005 application connected to an Oracle database 8.1.7.4 hosted on a UNIX server.
This database has the CharacterSet WE8ISO8859P1.
When retrieving Greek characters from this database in the application, you cannot see them.
Could you please send me a screenshot of these characters in the .Net application?
Are they displayed as gibberish, or as inverted questions marks (?)?
I already had similar cases with Hebrew characters hosted on an Oracle database.
These characters were displayed as questions marks on the client side.
This is due to the fact that System.Data.OracleClient is using the Server CharacterSet to display the characters.
If your Greek characters are not stored in the WE8ISO8859P1 characterset, then they won’t display correctly on the client-side.
This is different from OLEDB where you could interact on client side by modifying the NLS_LANG parameter in the registry HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ORACLE\HOME0.
The client NLS_LANG and the server CharacterSet had to match in order to correctly display the data, and avoid SQL*NET conversion.
So there are two solutions to your case:
- The first one is to create a new database using the P8 characterset. The Oracle .Net managed provider will so be able to use it and display the characters correctly.
- The second one is to use the OLEDB.Net managed provider, and then use OLEDB for Oracle provider. OLEDB will take care of the client NLS_LANG registry parameter.
Would it be possible to test your application against an Oracle database with WE8ISO8859P8 characterset?
Would it be possible to test it with the OLEDB .Net managed provider, and after checking the NLS_LANG client registry parameter?

• Reading TemSe files in unicode system showing greek letters

Hi Gurus,
I am facing issue with the newly converted unicode (cp 4102) spool files. I am using the standard functions RSTS_OPEN_RLC , RSTS_READ and RSTS_CLOSE to read TemSe files and create output files on application server using OPEN DATASET and TRANSFER.
After conversion to unicode, these function calls are returning some greek characters with size of the itab doubled (and that is due to double-byte UTF-16 charcter set) .
The program generates
Runtime Error CONVT_CODEPAGE
Except. CX_SY_CONVERSION_CODEPAGE
" While a text was being converted from code page '4102' to '1100', on
the following occurred:
- an character was discovered that could not be represented in one o
the two code pages;
- the system established that this conversion is not supported."
the statement
TRANSFER TEMSE_DATA TO ACT_FILE
generates this error.
Can someone tell me what is missing ?
TIA
Wasim

The extra characters are pasted below:
㄀  㤀㄀ ㈀㈀㄀㐀㄀ ㈀㜀㐀㐀㐀 㤀 ㈀ 㘀 㤀㈀ 圀 㤀㐀㄀ ㄀唀⸀匀⸀ 䈀䄀一䬀
These kind of characters are also visible in SP11 contents for spool files.
Again the question: which font to you use to display in your SAPGUI?
The spool files are generated through language EN and should not show any non-english characters.
That doesn´t tell anything. One advantage of Unicode is that you can enter, display and modify all languages/characters with an English logon.
Another question: What technology is generating those spool files? Sapscript? Smartforms? Self written program?
