Greek support?

Hello!
I've been attempting to change my system language into Greek. I've gone into the International section of System Preferences and moved Ελληνικά above everything else. I logged out and back in, yet everything is still in English. The date and time became Greek like I told it to, but nothing else is. I've tried it with other languages to make sure it's not just Greek, but they all work. Help?

I've been attempting to change my system language into Greek.
The 18 languages available for the OS X system are listed in its tech specs, and Greek is not included yet. (Leopard and Snow Leopard are the same in this regard):

I think there may be a group in Greece (Rainbow?) which sells a Greek version of the OS.

  • Greek support for jsp

    Hello,
    I am working on an MVC model where the user submits a form where the text is in greek, passes it to a bean and that is being read by a jsp page. Even though in the eclipse console the greek characters are apperaing in the jsp page where I am using this syntax
    <jsp:getProperty name="upBean" property = "articleTitle" />
    the text appears in question marks. Even though I have set the character encoding to greek
    <%@ page contentType="text/html; charset=iso-8859-7" language="java" import="java.sql.*" errorPage="" %>
    and even though I have set both request and response to
    req.setCharacterEncoding("UTF-8");
    res.setCharacterEncoding("UTF-8");
    Any idea why is this happening and how to fix it would be more than appreciated
    Thank you

    public void doPost (HttpServletRequest req, HttpServletResponse res)
         throws ServletException, IOException {
              req.setCharacterEncoding("charset=iso-8859-7");
    this is how I did it but it gives me a
    java.io.UnsupportedEncodingException: charset=iso-8859-7
    and if I use utf-8 the whole page gets messed up including tha static content
    any ideas?
    Thanks for your interest

  • Are the Adobe fonts that supports Greek works or not?

    Dear All,
    I'm looking for a greek support fonts, so I searched the Adobe fonts and reached this page:
    http://store1.adobe.com/cfusion/store/html/index.cfm?store=OLS-US&event=searchFonts&type=c ategory&code=greek&cat=classification
    I than copied 3 words I received in Greek and paste them into the "Enter sample Text" and pressed on the "View" button.
    These are the words:
    Αφιερωμένο σε όλους
    Almost all results came with question marks instead of Greek Characters.
    So,
    Are these fonts supports Greek or not?
    Thank you
    shlomit

    Hi Schlomit,
    I don't have the Adobe Text Pro to test, but of the others I see listed outside collections in the screen shot, the only one that failed to show all of your characters was  my version of Trajan Pro, which actually surprised me since it's based on classical Greek.

  • Greek iPhone/iPod Touch OS

    Firmware 2.1, The Greek iPhone/iPod OS is missing! Why?
    I recently bought an iPhone from Vodafone-Greece for 600 € (One of the more expensive from the countries that the iPhone is available, also one of the highest prices of iPhone with a contract) only to find out that there is no Greek iPhone OS.
    The iPhone is a tool to have with you all the time and if there is no ability to work in your native language, it is rendered useless.
    That is more frustrating is that, those who bought the iPhone from abroad (at 1/4 of the price) and jailbroke it, have a Greek keyboard, made by Greek hackers/programmers.
    But how many of us will buy an iPhone in those prices, only to realize that we have to hack it to get only a greek keyboard?
    People in Greece need Greek iTunes, Greek MobileMe, Greek iPhone OS, Greek iPhone Keyboard, Greek Mac OS X! People in Greece already know how wonderful products iPhone and Mac are, but the lack of greek language, keeps them away!

    You are absolutely right! It is only logical to request native keyboard for your phone. Let's not go back 10 years. So the sooner Apple provides some feedback on this the better (though Apple support in Greece has been really notorious).
    Bad thing is I don't see too many related request. Do everybody write in greeklish. Rubbish!
    Furthermore Vodafone who is the official retailer in Greece for iPhone should also pursue this issue on behalf of its customers and as a matter of minimum decency they should also make aware to whoever goes to buy an iPhone the fact that there is no Greek keyboard.
    Bottom-line, I hope we see Greek support soon!

  • Why is my Greek Open Sans displaying as serifed?

    I have built a website for a client http://charlesalexiou.com/ He wants some words in Greek. I used Open Sans, a Google font which includes Greek characters. It is a non-serifed font.
    In Firefox it displays with serifs, both on a Mac, which I have, and a PC, which my client is testing the site on.
    It is a WordPress site, which is optimised to use Google fonts, and I have no other issues with Google fonts I've used displaying just fine in Firefox. Even so, I added this code to the header: <link href='http://fonts.googleapis.com/css?family=Open+Sans&subset=latin,greek-ext,greek' rel='stylesheet' type='text/css'>
    <meta charset="<?php bloginfo('charset'); ?>"> Just to be sure. I have also contacted the theme developers who are looking into it.
    The Greek characters display properly in Open Sans in Safari and Chrome. They are serifed in Firefox (I'm using version 22) and IE10.
    Is there anything else I can do? I desperately need to be able to have this website display perfectly across all browsers.
    Thank you
    Fergie

    Hi Cor-el,
    This is the Open Sans font and apparently it has Greek support:
    [http://www.google.com/fonts/specimen/Open+Sans]
    I did check before I selected it to use on the website.
    Scroll down and you'll see Greek characters. It also has an extended Greek subset which I put a link to in the header of the website.
    Cheers

  • Dictionaries in staroffice 8

    Hi,
    I would like to add Greek support for spelling in staroffice 8 and although i followed the instructions i found i can't.To be more specific ...
    I found the following info, how to add dictionaries
    Please make sure that StarOffice is not running (including the quickstarter) when installing the modules. In order to provide the additional StarOffice language modules, you will have to copy all files from the subdirectory of the desired language (e.g., ".../addon/dict/polish") from the StarOffice CD ROM into the ".../share/dict/" directory of the StarOffice Installation.
    After copying the files for the appropriate language module, load StarOffice and open the menu "Tools - Options - Language Settings - Writing Aids". Under the "Available Writing Aids" category, click the field in front of the "StarOffice (Default)" entry to remove the check mark. Next, re-click this field so that the check mark reappears. This action prompts StarOffice to create a new list of available language modules within the program.
    To check which language modules are active, choose [Edit]. The "Edit Modules" dialog will now appear. In this dialog, you will be able to view all active language modules under "Language". Click [Close] to close the "Edit Modules" dialog. Close the "Options" dialog with [OK].
    The newly installed language module(s) will be automatically available for the Spellcheck function after completing these steps.
    but when i reclick the checkbox near to StarOffice so the mark reappears nothing happens,so i can't build a new language module.
    Does any one know how to do it ?
    P.S.
    I have copied the greek files from addon/greek to share/disc from staroffice 6 because icould not find the greek support dictionaries for staroffice 8
    thank you

    Hi Phil,
    Thanks for replying.
    I have installed SO8 and updated it with update 3 rev 2 in /usr/local/src/StarOffice8.0
    I have downloaded the macro and opened it with SO8.The macro run OK, it downloaded el_GR.zip and hyph_el_GR.zip in /usr/local/src/StarOffice8.0/share/dict/ooo and extracted and make the following files in the same directory.
    dictionary.lst
    dictionary.lst.1st
    dictionary.lst.old
    el_GR.aff
    el_GR.dic
    el_GR.zip
    hyph_el_GR.dic
    hyph_el_GR.zip
    README_el_GR.txt
    README_hyph_el_GR.txt
    After that i closed SO8 and reopened it.Then i went to TOOLS->OPTIONS->LANGUAGE SETTINGS->WRITING AIDS
    there is a section AVAILABLE LANGUAGE MODULES,under it it has the only checkbox that it is checked and it says StarOffice,at the right side i click Edit... and i expect to find the Greek Language but i can not.Also when i click the checkbox StarOffice so the check disappears and then recheck it so it http://www.visionwebhosting.net appears, nothing happens (acording to the info i found, this action prompts StarOffice to create a new list of available language modules within the program)
    When you said that SO8 can use MySpell dictionaries,is there something else i have to do ? Maybe i did not understand something well ?
    thanks again
    Apostolis
    I have same problem.

  • Get ???? from Apache SOAP Server

    Hi, all,
    I have some non-ascii characters(Chinese word) in a soap-xml file and send it to the server. The server gets it and echo back to me. The message I get is also a xml file but the Chinese word all become ????. And it seems the received xml encoding is UTF-8. My environment is JDK1.3.1, Apache SOAP2.1, Xerces 1.3, Tomcat 3.2.1.

    i had numerous problems with Greek support in SOAP replies and did this to get a correct answer.
    maybe, by replacing UTF-8 with GBK, it can roll for you?
    SOAPMessage reply = fac.createMessage();
    reply.getMimeHeaders().setHeader("Content-type", "text/xml; charset=utf-8");
    SOAPEnvelope env = reply.getSOAPPart().getEnvelope();good luck!

  • Updating Satellite L750-1NJ laptop

    Hello all,
    I hope you are doing well.
    To start with, two or so years ago I bought a L750-1NJ laptop, a model destined for Greece (among others I suppose), and haven't done any updates on the software.
    I sometimes get notification messages on the Bulletin Board but whenever I try to read them it doesn't display any.
    On the Greek support site there are no software updates.
    I wonder whether the software of the other L750 models from [http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/] is compatible with my laptop.
    Should I attempt updating the BulletingBoard or what ?
    Thank you in advance.

    In front of me I have 4 years old notebook and it still runs with original recovery image without any updates. It runs well and stabile. In my opinion there is no reason for updates if everything is OK and you can use your notebook without problems.
    Usually every notebook offered by Toshiba has preinstalled Toshiba Tempro and Toshiba service station. The second one usually inform notebook user about new updates.
    One more time: if everything is OK don't change anything just install offered important Windows updates.

  • MathType 6.7 is out...

    MathType 6.7 for Mac OS X has been released. I'm running the "trial" version before upgrading to check it out. I've only done a little messing around, but thought I'd report here on what I've gotten so far. It allegedly works with MS Word 2011, though I haven't actually tested that yet. For downloading it, see here: http://www.dessci.com/en/products/MathType_Mac/
    So far I can report:
    Good News:
    MathType now has the option to save as Acrobat PDF as well as EPS. This should solve a number of the font and characters-failing-to-show-up issues, while preserving the ability to edit equations from Indesign by using the "Edit Using..." command. (However, MathType doesn't appear in the "Edit using..." command's submenu, so you need to choose "Other" and then point to the application.) However, even the eps files seem to behave better than in the previous version of MathType (see below).
    The obliqued Symbol font Greek characters now appear and print correctly from Indesign, which was broken in CS5 up until now. I tested several other characters that have caused trouble over the years, including capital Greek letters and the over-sized brackets, and these all seem to behave nicely now.
    Bad News:
    The only Greek character sets supported are still the Symbol and Euclid (TeX lookalike) fonts, which mean that all those elegantly designed Greek letters in fonts like Garamond Pro, and the sans-serif Greek characters in Arial and Myriad Pro are off limits. Shoot. I had hoped that they'd add OpenType Greek support, for those of us who care about good typography and want to use those less clunky Greek characters that match the text fonts we're using.
    The "Insert Symbol" command still only shows 256 characters, so you can't get at the Greek (or any other special characters) in OpenType fonts that way either.
    So, although it's not all I'd hoped for, it does look like MathType is functional for Indesign once more. If anyone else has had other specific problems with MathType and Indesign in the past, please try it out and report back.

    Rodney, thanks for the brief review of MathType 6.7. What you point out about OpenType support really is more generically related to partial Unicode support. I could give reasons why it's this way, but I suspect what matters more to you and other InDesign users than the "why" is the "when". I can't answer the "when" question other than to say we're fixing it with a new Font Manager. We're working on it, but I don't have an idea of when you can expect to see it.

    I want to create a word document from a PDF.

  • Greek Language Support for Zen To

    The majority of my music collection is Greek songs and it'ss a real shame that Creative does NOT have language support for Greek. I tried entering a song in Greek letters since I have dual language support on my Windows XP. When I look at the Media Source Transferring program, the file name seems to be recognized and doesn?t seem as if there is a problem. However when I view the song title on my Creative Zen Touch (V 2..0 Plays for Sure) the characters are stretched out funny and doesn?t read accent marks similar to how I posted the example bellow.
    A l l I [] s m e a f [ ] s e s ( These [ ] are due to accent marks I guess not being recognized Also pretend this is in Greek letters since this board won?t let me post it in Greek?)
    Is there any way around this? It doesn?t seem like such a hard thing for the Creative people to fix?
    The sad thing is that Apple actually has Greek language support and to me this is a huge importance to me. I don?t like writing my Greek song titles in Latin characters, it just seems silly.
    Message Edited by Colorfinger on 06-06-2006 :29 PM

    Hi Colorfinger,
    I also own a Zen Touch and have exactly the same problem you have detailed below with the majority of the music I have loaded to the player as it is in greek and the player doesn't support it. I also have the majority of my music library in greek characters in Windows XP due to the cataloguing issues which arise if the track information is left in latin characters.
    When I contacted Creative last year in regards to this they advised me they did not have greek language support for their players and had no plans on offering it in the future either. This of course makes the music library on the Zen Touch an absolute joke, irrespecti've of whether the track information has been loaded onto the player with greek or latin characters. If it has been loaded with latin characters you have the same artist appearing in various areas of the library due to the non standardised spelling of greek words in english. They are either typed phonetically, in greeklish or best guess english. If the track information is in greek, well we have the problem you have outlined in regards to the stress mark not being recognised, the spacing and the alphabetization of the library being a joke when the first letter ot either the artist/album/song is preceded by a stress mark.
    I have to admit to being very disappointed as the main reason I purchased a Creative Zen touch is because I had been advised it had multiple language support and I did want to load all my music to the player with greek characters.
    To anyone else out there with the same problem, make yourselves known and start asking for firmware updates to include greek language support, especially for people buying Creative's players in Greece.Message Edited by Tomaraki on 09-30-2006 06:00 PM

  • Office app that supports Greek characters?

    Is there any app like this? Documents To Go and QuickOffice both can't display them properly (I only get boxes). I view a lot of documents with Greek symbols in them as my Physics teacher puts our notes online as .doc files and I transfer them to my iPod for viewing on the go, but I never know what the proper symbols are because they only show up as boxes. Any help?

    Since the iPhone/ipod has no problem displaying unicode greek, it sounds like your docs use the old symbol font which maps greek to latin, which iOS will probably not support. You might need to convert the notes to pdf before you can read them.

  • Greek language support for ipod touch?

    why the greek language is not included in the supported languages for ipod touch?
    why there is no greek keyboard nor a speller?
    is it so hard to do it?
    the greek language is not important?
    as fur as i know apple has also a market for ipod in greece as well as other products...
    but no greek language support in the ipod... why?

    yes this is also true,
    as fur as it goes for displaying text in greek  the results are pretty good.
    but when it come to writing...this is a totally different scenario...
    unfortunately you have many other options apart from writing greek of curse.
    to conclude and this is something that keeps bugling me,
    maybe I am wrong,
    but i think that the OS the ipod touch runs is based OSX 10.4 (tiger),
    if not mostly the same OS.
    if the above assumption is correct in some whey..and by having in mind that the support for many languages is already realized for the above OS
    is interesting to notice that the support of this already realized languages is limited in the platform of ipod touch ( concerning writing and spelling).
    how knows...

  • No 3G iPhone support for Greek language/keyboard!

    Last Friday, the very first day of appearance of iPhone in the greek market, I bought, from a greek Vodafone shop, a 16GB iPhone 3G.
    It was quite a bad surprise and disappointment to me, when i realized that greek language was not included and supported in the international language and keyboard package of the device! That makes it the first mobile phone Vodafone provides to the greek market, without supporting greek language! When I mentioned that to Vodafone people, here in Athens, Greece, they blamed Apple for that problem. They said that a new firmware update is expected by Apple, and probably then the problem will be solved!!
    So, ladies and gentlemen, is there any information about the availability of greek language/keyboard support for the 3G iPhone?
    Thank you for your time

    i sen this to support under enhancement request in case anyone is bored of typing:
    Hi,
    I recently signed a contract with vodafone Greece for 46 € plan (one of the more expensive from the countries that the iPhone is available) in order to get an iPhone 3G 16GB for 430 € (also one of the highest prices of iPhone with a contract) only to find out that there is no Greek Keyboard. This is unacceptable. I don't care for which other countries you have made keyboard or not (although you make sure to rub it in my face) but the essence of the iphone is that it is a tool to have with you all the time and if the is no ability to right in your native language it is rendered useless. The think that is more frustrating is that those who bought the iPhone from abroad (at 1/4 of the price) and jailbroke it have a Greek keyboard, made by Greek hackers/programmers.
    Today comes, as i am told the 2.1 firmware update and i sincerely hope that it has the Greek keyboard in it otherwise my (and many other i spoke with that bought the iPhone due to its features and not due to the Apple brand) loyalty to the Apple brand (which is already in bad shape due to the Greek retailer Rainbow) is going to be in jeopardy.
    please fix this
    thank you
