Greek text

Hi,
I am having troubles setting up a user so that they can type
Greek text into Contribute 2 on Mac Os 10.3. The Kb is set to Greek
text and can successfully enter text in Word etc. but when they try
to type in Contribute with Greek enabled they get Chinese style
chararcters. The same fault also occurs on the input of other
languges except when set to English
The iso codes are set correctly for each page can any one
shed any light on this?

Unfortunately it appears that Contribute 2 cannot recognize
that the kb input has been changed to Greek. It knows that the
language has changed, but can't detect what it's been changed to.
This seems to have been solved in Contribute 3, so CT 2 users who
need to regularly change languages should probably consider
updating to version 3.

  • Convert xml to fm: very slow with russian/greek text, fast with westeuropean text

    Has somebody experienced a significant difference between opening a  russian xml file compared to opening a file with westeuropean text?
    We have german xml files, opening them in FM9 (as well in FM10) takes about 2 min. The same with finish, french, etc.
    Opening  the "same" file, translated into russian or greek takes about 50 min!  Structure, attributes, file size are identical to the german file.
    Thanks for your tipps and experiences

    Michael,
    thanks for your tips.
    2 min is ok for us, the resulting fm document is about 400 pages long.
    To have a very clean test environment, I created (in FM9) a new EDD from the DTD, and did not add any formatting rules at all. So the EDD only contains elements and attributes.
    I imported the EDD into a new blank FrameMaker document.
    What font is the template using? Does it have the glyphs required for Cyrillic and Greek texts?
    Times New Roman. This works correct with cyr and gr documents with a size of 300 kB.
    Is the EDD using references to catalog formats or does it work with Format Change Lists to create the formatting?
    Currently, in my test edd, I have no formatting infos at all, only elements and attributes.
    Is there some language attribute that may trigger some special formatting?
    No.
    Does the EDD come from pre-Unicode days and still tries to work with special Cyrillic or Greek fonts?
    To avoid this, I created a new EDD from the DTD, and let it very blank, with no formatting information at all.

  • Greek Text Not Displaying Properly (Characters being replaced with different ones)

    Hi,
    I am using Adobe Photoshop CS3. I have a spreadsheet of Greek translations. When I copy and paste the text into Photoshop, certain characters are missed out or replaced with an incorrect one. I have tried downloading fonts that support the Greek character set, but still no luck. If I paste this text into any other applications (Word, explorer etc) the text displays properly. I was wandering if there is a setting or anything in photoshop that I need to change? It seems to be an issue with this application only.
    Many thanks,

    Have you tried to set your system language to a European setting, e.g. Ireland or UK? Seems like an issue with incorrect Unicode conversion. Also turn off OpenType features for automated glyph replacement in the menu of the Character palette...

  • Word breaks incorrect when wrapping Greek text

    Hi,
    I'm trying to use Greek in Illustrator, but I'm getting line breaks in the middle of words. This sort of problem also applies to other languages. Does anyone know how this problem might be resolved?
    Note that this is NOT the same thing as turning off hyphenation; I've tried that and it doesn't work. I'm getting breaks in words without hyphens appearing. I've tried with two sorts of Greek fonts: (1) with the Helena font, which replaces Latin glyphs with Greek glyphs, and (2) with a Greek characters in Unicode with a Unicode-compatible Greek font (SBL Greek). With the first option, it seems that Illustrator is causing breaks where it sees non-alphanumeric characters. With the second option, I'm not sure what the problem is; it's breaking in various strange places.
    Setting the language to "Greek" in the Character Pallette does not help. (I'm using ancient Greek, and I'm not sure how that might differ from modern Greek).
    The same problem has apparently occurred in InDesign, and there is even a solution or two in InDesign (see the 2nd link) involving either setting the language to "No Language" (cannot be done in Illustrator, as far as I can see), or find and replace character styles (again, it seems Illustrator can't do this).
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/1873967#1873967
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/1327153#1327153
    How might this problem be solved? Setting "No Break" in the Character Pallette for all the words would require tedious selection. Its seems that this problem could be solved by allowing "No Language" to be selected, or by adding an option to only break at spaces. TextEdit on Mac OS X does the latter and wraps the text properly.
    Thanks,
    David Arndt

    Ehm ... because InDesign can't load the correct rules for that language? No language = no rules.
    Go ahead, try it.
    It is something different than unchecking "Hyphenation" -- that works on entire paragraphs only. This will work for any word (or phrase, sentence, paragraph, multiple book set) you don't want to be hyphenated.
    [Post-thought:] "No language" may lead to surprising results with some OpenType fonts, as a lot (if not all) of features may be tagged to the language. You might suddenly miss ligatures, for example. So, other than for "Other" languages, you should probably just switch hyphenation off.
    End of disclaimer.

  • Importing and retaining greek text from word into IndCS3

    Have a word document in Greek. Word file is in Times New Roman and views in word correctly as font is loaded. I wish to import into Indesign CS3 and format accordingly, but, when I do it does not keep greek language it comes in as all pink missing text. Have tried selecting greek language in character palette but does not fix problem. Does anyone have any suggestions?
    thanks
    sonja

    >Have tried selecting greek language
    What would you expect from that? Auto-translation?
    >all pink missing text
    That's a visual clue, not meant to indicate "missing text" (how would ID know that it's missing?), but rather that the characters used in the text are not in your current selected font. Select another font -- which
    i has
    Greek characters --, and you'll be fine.

  • Greek text on ipod contacts

    Hello I have a 20G click wheel classic purchased from the states a year ago. I am using a lap top in Greece with Microsoft XP. The greek song titles etc display just fine, but there is absolutely no way I can get contact, calendar details and notes to display in greek (I tried the Unicode formatting but it is all lost in the transfer, and there is no formatting of text in the V-cards (it looks fine on the PC, almost chinese on the ipod). Also my ipod has no greek selection on the languages.....any suggestions?

    I tried the Unicode formatting but it is all lost in the transfer,
    It's not clear what you mean by this. I would try saving your notes as plain text in both UTF-8 and UTF-16 and see if this works. These are not formats but encodings. A v card can also be opened with a text editor and resaved in one of these encodings.
    This should work on the most recent iPods, but I am not sure about the capabilities of yours -- they do differ.

  • Try to print from windows to a special printer needs to read text

    dear sir or madam,
    I am trying to print a pdf file with greek text in it to a printer that needs to read the text and process it at some other task.
    I can print from any Windows program to that special printer and if I have a document with images and text, the images are striped down and the text is shown to the output file.
    When I try to print a pdf file all the text is shown as images. I can copy and paste the text with no problem why it is not printed as text???
    I try to do this with the command line. Is there are other switches I could try?

    1: I am sorry about the inconvinience.
    The reason you find a check mark on a printer icon is to indicate that its a default printer. If the fax icon has a check mark, everytime you print a fax template will come up.
    SOlution: Just right click on the other icon and select it as the default printer.
    2: Black lines while printing photos.
    CLick on the link below and check if the solution helps you.

    The first question that needs to be answered is whether the problem is a data storage problem or data presentation problem.
    The query below will answer this question.

  • Cannot type/paste normal international text when non-Unicode in CS6

    Hello,
    In all versions of DW (up to CS3 which I have used) I had no problem pasting / typing HTML or text with international characters in Design View when the page is using a non-Unicode, yet international encoding (like Windows - Greek or ISO - Greek).
    Now, DW CS6 auto converts all international chars typed/pasted in Design View to html entities (unless Page Encoding is Unicode).
    For example, when the document has an encoding of:
    <meta http-equiv="Content-Type"  content="text/html;  charset=windows-1253">
    [ This is equal to Modify / Page Properties / Title/Encoding / Document Type (DTD): None & Encoding: Greek (Windows) ]
    ...in the past I was able to type/paste greek characters/text in Design view and they were retained as such (simple text) in Code view (and this is what we need now as well).
    Yet, in DW CS6 such international chars/text (typed / pasted in Design view) are auto-switched to "&somechar;" entities which is not what should happen; this messes up all text. Design view shows the text correctly, but html source (Code View) does not retain international characters themselves, although it should, as long as the html page is using a proper encoding/charset that allows compatible international text to be retained (e.g. greek encoding is compatible with greek characters). I repeat that this was working correctly at least until DW CS3.
    Directly typing/pasting in DW CS6 design view correctly (i.e. retaining the original chars in code view) works ONLY when using Unicode.
    However, if we type/paste greek text (with html tags or not) directly in Code view, then DW CS6 retains chars/text properly and Design view displays everything properly too. Consequently, as a work-around, we can use the Code View to type/paste international text/html when not using Unicode (UTF-8) as the Page Encoding. But this makes our life more difficult.
    So, has CS6 dropped support for typing/pasting international text/html directly in Design view, for non-Unicode international encodings?
    Or something has changed and we need to configure some setting(s) so that the feature works properly? (I haven't been able to find any setting that might affect this behavior. I also played with Document Type (DTD) settings but I found these did not affect the described behavior.)
    Please advise. This is very important.
    Thanks,
    Nick

    Thanks for the reply.
    As I have already mentioned, typing/pasting in Code View works properly.
    However, in previous versions of DW, pasting/typing in Design View was working fine, whatever the page encoding.
    I agree that pasting in Code View is not really a big deal. But having to do all editing/typing in Code View definitely is! What is the point of using a WYSIWYG editor, if it can't produce correct source code (except in Unicode pages)? If we are going to do all editing in Code View, then we could simply use notepad (just an exaggeration) or other programming-oriented tool.
    I hope other people can confirm the problem and suggest solutions or Adobe fixes it.

  • Howing greek characters with accents

    Hello everybody,
    I've an applet developed using swing where I've to show some greek text. The problem is that I can see the standard greek characters but I cannot see those characters with accents or spirits.
    The document that contains the text is a DefaultStyledDocument and, right now, I've configured it in this way:
    Style normal_style = this.addStyle("normal", null);
    StyleConstants.setFontFamily(normal_style, "lucida");
    this.setParagraphAttributes(0, 0, normal_style, false);
    I've used the lucida family since I've read that family is able to render the greek but any character with an accent is rendered with a small rectangle.
    I upload the text from a text file encoded using utf8. The example text is the following:
    &#922;&#8059;&#954;&#955;&#959;&#965; &#964;&#956;&#8053;&#956;&#945;&#964;&#959;&#962; &#948;&#959;&#952;&#8051;&#957;&#964;&#959;&#962; &#960;&#961;&#959;&#963;&#945;&#957;&#945;&#947;&#961;&#8049;&#968;&#945;&#953; &#964;&#8056;&#957; &#954;&#8059;&#954;&#955;&#959;&#957;,&#959;&#8023;&#960;&#8051;&#961; &#7952;&#963;&#964;&#953; &#964;&#956;&#8134;&#956;&#945;.

    Also, when I save this text using my application my new saved file still contains the correct characters with the accent and all the stuff.
    The problems seems to be just the rendering in the application...
    Any idea?

    Hello everybody,
    I've an applet developed using swing where I've to show some greek text. The problem is that I can see the standard greek characters but I cannot see those characters with accents or spirits.
    The document that contains the text is a DefaultStyledDocument and, right now, I've configured it in this way:
              Style normal_style = this.addStyle("normal", null);
              StyleConstants.setFontFamily(normal_style, "lucida");
              this.setParagraphAttributes(0, 0, normal_style, false);
