Green canvas, slug and bars.

Hi,
This has been written about recently, but I can't find a real answer. Slug, bars and empty canvas have turned green on my latest fcp 5.0 project. I've looked around on the web, and it seems that this happens to people that have downloaded the latest quicktime upgrade (7.3.0) as I have. Does this mean that if I pay to upgrade to Quicktime Pro, then this problem will disappear? I really can't afford the time to reinstall everything, and don't want to pay to upgrade quicktime until I know it will work? If this won't work, will upgrading to Leopard change it?

You have two options move back to QT 7.2 or upgrade to FCP 6. One takes time the other take money. As you will read. My system has worked great since I installed a new system on a different disk. I just dropped the cash for the FCS upgrade but am proceeding extremely cautiously.
Good luck. And yes, it was a bummer that Apple didn't warn us or give us an easy route back. Lessons learned...

Try this - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)

Try:
- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- Try on another computer
- If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

Satellite L350D-216: Green lines, dots and shadows.

Hello all.
About three days ago, I purchased a laptop (Toshiba L350D, released about July '09 I believe) second hand on a good deal.
I turn it on today, to discover a series of weird green lines, dots and shadows, most of which make areas of text hard to read.

You can see them to the right of words and if you look close enough, also surrounding various letters in the Google logo.

Not especially clear here (sorry), but the greyed out words in the address bar are very ghosted.
Also, it appears to have replaced solid areas of colours like grey, with a 'dotty' green colour.

It appears this issue has also spread onto video, where areas of green are now appearing at random points.

I have updated the display drivers with the latest ones available from here, which sadly made no difference.
Any advice on why this suddenly decided to happen and how to get rid of it would be appreciated, I use the laptop for Photoshop and as you can imagine, having areas of green and shadows is rather off-putting when i'm trying to work.

If an external display (a monitor plugged into the laptop) shows no sign of the fault you can presume the the graphics chip is not at fault, after all it's working fine on the external monitor! If this is the case you don't need a new motherboard. I have repaired many graphic chip faults on laptop motherboards, and find that toshiba are usually quite good at not getting this type of fault.
I would suggest that the problem is more likely to be related to the cable that connects your screen to the laptops board (this is if the lines are vertical). Try moving the screen about on it's hinge and see if the problem goes, you can also slightly twist the screen and see if the problem goes. If you are not confidant to do the job yourself take it to a confident repair shop and they will be able to diagnose the problem. If the lines are horizontal it may well point to a capacitor problem which once again is not a new motherboard, just a decent repair centre which can identify the fault and repair it by replacing new capacitors on your board.

Updated to Maverick, now all my projects in FCP have a green Canvas... help

I updated to Maverick and opened up FCP and all the projects I was working on now have a green canvas. the audio still works. I then reinstalled FCP 7 ut still the same problems. Help please

Slug and places where is no footage is showing wrong.

Hi.
I have this odd problem. After installing FCP again it is showing slugs and other places where is no footage or anything is showing green and I want it to be black. What could be wrong with this?

I'd reinstall FCP... Trash it first though.
1) Close FCP
2) Go to: /users/username/library/preferences/
a. Delete the com.apple.FinalCutPro.plist
b. Delete the FCP User data folder.
3) Go to: Applications
a. Delete FCP application
b. Delete FCP HD addition easy setups folder.
4) Go to: /library/applicaton support/fcp system support/
a. Delete Custom Settings folder
b. Delete Plugins folder
5) Go to: /library/receipts/ and delete the following:
a. AnalogPAL.pkg
b. AppleIntermediateCodec.pkg
c. DigitalPAL.pkg
d. DVCproHDCodec.pkg
e. FinalCutPro.pkg
f. FinalCutproHDUpdate4.5.pkg
g. FinalCutProHelp.pkg
h. HDVCodec.pkg
i. IMXCodec.pkg
j. Uncompressed422.pkg
k. VideoOutSupport.pkg
6) Insert the FCP 5.0 upgrade disk and re-install.
7) Run the OSX Disk Utility (repair permissions on the drive)
a. Select the OSX drive
b. Repair the Disk Permissions.
c. Reboot.
Reinstall... then run software update to get to 5.0.4 again.

Green Canvas AGAIN after QT Install

A while back, right after I downloaded and installed the update to QT 7.3, my Canvas in FCP5 went green. Nothing I could do fixed it, though I spent weeks reading posts, trashing prefs, checking scratch disk, trying to find a way to get back to an earlier version of QT, calling Apple, getting nowhere. I eventually had to buy a new internal drive and reinstall EVERYTHING. Only that fixed it.
Last week I took an advanced FCP workshop, and the instructor said that problem was now definitively fixed in QT 7.4. So I downloaded 7.4.5. Now I have the green canvas again.
This is truly crazy, that after all this time the problem STILL hasn't been fixed. Luckily, I have decided to upgrade to FCP6, but what is up with this FCP/QT problem and why hasn't it been fixed and why does Apple continue to feign ignorance and do nothing to help?

I follow what your saying and it's kinda funny but not really. The reality is given the nature of how QT is embedded into FCP you would think that there would be a little more testing behind the scenes to make sure that these updates would be thoroughly compatible, especially in the midst of a operating system/processor switchover. At least let the user (customer) back up a generation of QT without a huge hassle if something goes wrong. I've been using FCP since v.1 and it's a great product but on more than one occasion I've been left in a lurch with QT and FCP incompatibilities. I guess I must be ever optimistic that it won't happen again. We shouldn't be stricken with the fear of an update though. I like the development and the new functionality that Apple incorporates into its products but I don't want to get burned when I forget and click the "updates" button. They are supposed to be updates not downgrades. There've been quite a few burned with this 7.3 update and certainly more to come and I'm just requesting that Apple solve the problem so we can continue on having faith in what they do so well.

How to change web button and bars colors??

is there anyway to change illustrators default web buttons and bars after they are dragged to the canvas. it seems a lot of the buttons are yellow or blue. i wanted to specifically change the color of a "talk bubble." thanks

You haven't specified which version of Illustrator you are using, but I will assume for purposes of this discussion, that my version, CS3, is not vastly different from yours. The "Web Buttons and Bars" is a collection of symbols, which gives you several options. When you drag a symbol to the artboard three buttons appear in the Control Panel: Edit Symbol, Break Link, and Duplicate. Each affords you certain option for editing the symbol.
Edit Symbol puts the symbol into Isolation Mode, which allows access to the parts of the symbol through the Layers Panel and the Appearance Panel, and may be changed using any colors, effects, transformations, additions, deletions, or anything else you choose to do to it. When you are finished editing, and exit Isolation Mode, the changes you have made will appear in the symbol in the Symbols Panel and in any instances of the symbol you have put on the artboard.
Break Link turns the symbol instance you have selected into an object which may be changed in any manner you choose, just as if you had built it yourself and then changed your mind. Changes to the object will have no effect on other instances of the symbol, nor on the symbol in the Symbols Panel, because it is no longer a symbol and is completely unrelated to either. If you wish, you may turn the edited object into a new symbol.
Duplicate turns the selected symbol instance into a new symbol, identical to the original but having no connection either to it nor to other instances of the original. If the first symbol was named "Original," then a new one will appear in the Symbols Panel named "Original 1." The same options will be available in the Control Panel, and any changes you make will only be applied to the new symbol and any instances of it that you may have put onto the artboard.
You may save your edited symbols through the Symbols Library Menu in the Symbols Panel.
If any of this is unclear, doesn't work, or is flat wrong, please let me know.

If you can't sign in, then you can't troubleshoot and/or pair the keyboard until after that........ so, for that, you will need to borrow someone's USB wired keyboard in order to get signed in and to the Keyboard Bluetooth Preferences.

Go to Preferences > Interface tab, choose Light from Color Theme dropdown on Apearance section (upper part of the window)

I'm not sure, if you're out of warrenty it'll cost quite a bit for the replacement of the logic board replacement...unless you have apple care. you could ask apple to try and recover your hard drive but i'm not sure.

Slug and bleed print fine from Acrobat 9.5.3 but not Acrobat 9.5.4

Our creative department is having issues printing slugs from Acrobat.
(slugs were created in InDesign CS5 and exported to pdf)
There are NO issues printing form Acrobat Pro 9.5.3.
Ther ARE issues printing from Arobat Pro 9.5.4.
The slug and bleed shows up in the print preview screen but does NOT print.
Does anyone have any advice or solutions?

Did you ever figure this out? One day I was printing slugs a few days later acrobat was not printing them, even though they show in the preview. Help?
