Green distorted video when imported

Several times I've run into a problem with importing .mp4 filetypes. It doesn't happen with every mp4.
They play fine in Movie Maker and VLC. When I import them, they are usually green with pink and very distorted. I've tried Rendering them and it results in the same distortion. I've tried saving them in Movie Maker first and that usually results in the audio disappearing but the video will be clear, plus it makes me feel very foolish for spending the money on Premiere if I have to filter it through another program first.
I'm using Premiere Elements 11 on a relatively powerful PC. i7, 32gb ram, win8.
After doing a lot of research I'm really not sure what I should try next. Any input would be greatly appreciated!

I need to think about this some more. But, what you could try is renaming just the file extension of the file...
mp4 to .mov
mp4 to .avi
mp4 to .mpg
mp4 to .m2t
mp4 to .m2ts
It looks like you have AVCHD video compression and AAC audio compression with the .mp4 wrapper. Those should be compatible, unless there is some sort of special codec involved.behind the AVCHD tag?
Conversion to another format may be the answer, but let us see. Movie Maker was going to be my first choice, but then I saw that you tried that and found it helped the video but not the audio.
When you are getting this pink green representation in Premiere Elements, did you say the sound was unaffected or not?
More tomorrow.

  • Distorted video after importing to iMovie 09

    Please HELP!
After converting a video into .mp4 format (that i can edit it in iMovie 09) and importing it to iMovie 09 I get completely distorted video; the picture is squeezed & the sound is not synchronized.
Before i made a lot of similar videos & everything was ok.
When I try to use precision editor, it doesn't help that much, i still see bad syncr. of sound and bad picture.
Please help me, cause the video is great & i need to edit it.
Am i using the wrong importing or converting format?
If so, which do you recommend instead?
The one I always use is: APPLE TV MPEG-4 720x432 (*.mp4)
These are the properties of the converted video:
    Video ID: 0x2
    Format: xvid
    Resolution: 720x432
    Frame rate: 30.00 fps
    Bit Rate: 1501 kbps
    Total length: 00:25:15
    Audio ID: 0x1
    Format: AAC
    Sample rate: 48000 Hz
    Channels: 2
    Bit rate: 127 kbps
Is there perhaps just a simple trick that I can use so that it automatically fixes this problem?
    Any answer is welcome!!!
Please be fast with the answer!!!
    Thank You

  • Distorted pictures when imported

    Hi!
I have a JPEG that looks nice in the Finder and Preview. But when importing it into iPhoto i gets all green. Other imported photos from the same camera looks great when imported (all JPEGs).
    Thanks for any help.

    Peter:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Open it in Preview and in the Inspector window see what the color mode and profile are. Also try changing the profile with the Tools->Assign Profile menu option and select one of the RGB profiles different from when is in there now. Then do a Save As to a new file name. Import and see if that looks the same.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Any way to stop autoplay of videos when importing?

I am importing a large number of videos into iTunes, and find it incredibly annoying that it tries playing each of them as I import them, and then I need to rest the ones that start playing to new. Is there some hidden preference that allows me to stop autoplaying videos on import?

This script can be used to turn that off: http://dougscripts.com/itunes/scripts/download.php?sc=changehiddenprefs

  • How to ignore videos when importing

I want to import only photos, not videos.  How do I set up Lightroom 4 to ignore (not show) videos in the import screen?

just installed v3.6 again for a different test a minute ago.. videos are there in the import dialog by default.
im not 100% sure if LR 4 supports more video formats....im not really using LR for video so i don´t care much.
but that´s maybe why you don´t see the videos in LR 3.6. just a guess....
i have issues importing some video and always get a error message during import.
i store my travel videos in the same folder as the images and that´s why i would like to exclude videos from importing.

  • Red & Green Arrow Icon when Importing

Does anyone know why I have a red & green arrow icon appear, when I am importing a clip (v 11)?  I then have to repeat the process, and the clip appears.  The first 80+ clips were fine, then this problem started.  This is very frustrating!

    Hi Bill,
Sorry for the delay in replying.  I have spent the time de-cluttering / removing programs, clearing the registry, and de-fragging.
I then carried out a number of tests:
Opened Task Manager and the Resource Monitor.  Both registered zero on CPU usage (no programs running).
Opened Premier Elements - both registered between 1 and 2% CPU usage.
I then opened Organizer (from the bottom of Premier) - both CPU usages jumped to 100%.  Computer slowed considerably.
It is interesting that Organizer still does not show all my JPGs (between 5 and 10%), the rest are icons - either an hour glass, or the flower question mark.  Where some of the JPGs are showing, only a fraction of the ones in the folder have been imported.
I then closed Organizer (exit from Premier) - CPU usage in both remained at 100% (even after 10 minutes)
I then closed Premier (exit) - CPU usage in both remained at 100%.
Organizer is still running in the Resource Monitor (average 96.85%), along with Elements Auto Analyzer (0%) and Adobe QT32 Server.exe (0%).  The same is happening in Task Manager, except Organizer is taking 99% CPU usage.
It is 40 minutes since the programs have been closed.
My picture and video folders are as follows:
        My Pictures:   104GB    29994 files    585 folders
        Videos:          269GB    12290 files    277 folders
        HDD:            Used:    488GB
                            Free     432GB
    Core i7  2.8GHz
    8GB RAM
    Win 7 64-bit
My apologies for such a lengthy reply, but I am at a loss as to what may be wrong!
Can I clear Organizer totally, and see if that works?
    Should I delete a portion of my pictures / videos?  (I have a back-up).
    Your assistance is so appreciated.
    Michael
P.S.  The only way to clear my memory, is to re-start.

  • Distorted videos after import

When i imported videos from my iphone it made them flat and wide making the video look distorted. I've changed the aspect ratio to each of the suggestions and nothing makes a difference

    Just guessing here...
When making movies with your iPhone, be sure to hold it in Landscape mode (not vertical).
If your movies are vertical, they will be tall and skinny with a black border, or they will have the top an bottom cropped off and fill the screen. You can toggle between these two options by using the Rotate, Crop, Ken Burns tool on the middle toolbar. Drag a clip into your project. Then select CROP to cut off the top and bottom, or choose FIT to make it tall and skinny.
Avoid all this by shooting in landscape mode.

  • No video when imported into itunes yet vid when file outside

    This is really weird
i converted 2 videos i had by using quicktime video player to convert it to ipod format
if i leave these 2 videos on the desktop right click and choose play in itunes they play perfectly in the itunes window or fukk screen
Yet if i import them into itunes when they play in itunes they dont show vidoe only audio
delete from itunes and play from outside itunes again and the video is back!
they play perfectly in quicktime player
Any ideas what the heck is causing this? they are standard m4v conversions.
I tried deleting them completely and reconverting with quicktime and exact same results

ok i think i figured something out
it now does this with all my videos in itunes BUT
if i pause any video and restart it the video suddenly appears and plays
its a pain to have to play stop and then play every-time though

  • Event library 1 hour limit on video when imported videos are longer

In my event library, none of my events are more than 1 hour in length, and the video after the 1 hour mark is unavailable. When I import the event it says "87 minutes imported" or however long the clip is, yet only the first hour can be viewed, added to project etc. They are not all exactly 1 hour, some are 58 or 59 minutes, and the longest is 1:00:54 long. It is frustrating because I'm trying to import football games to make highlights, so I'm missing a lot of matches. Why is this happening/how can I access the footage in each event after the 1 hour mark? Please help me!

    Rodrigo,
We seem to be able to "stream" (progressively download) videos over 35 minutes on PCs, but not on Macs. Without more input from Apple, we don't really have any clue as to what is responsible for this problem. We had considered breaking the files into several parts to take advantage of the streaming capability, but we have decided to just have our students download the entire files if need be, since the only users affected are Mac users.
I'm just now testing to see if there is a duration limit on streaming files over the PC. After a little playing around, I think there might be a limit to the PC's streaming capabilities as well. I'll update this thread with any discoveries.
But from what I can see, you should be able to stream files over the PC. How much bandwidth does your school have?

  • No video when importing mp4s to iMovie '11

I'm trying to make my friend's acting reel, which means I'm getting a lot of videos in different formats. Mainly, they are mp4s, and upon import I have the audio, but just a black screen. Any suggestions other than converting to .mov? I'm using iMovie '11.  If not, any good freeware for converting? I've been trying to use VLC but that's been giving me good audio and really pixelated, weird video (I'll add a screenshot when I'm able).
    Thank you in advance!!!

The best tool I've seen recommended by longtime contributors to the iMovie Discussion Group is called MPEG Streamclip. It can convert to .mov but more specifically it can save it into the Apple Intermediate Codec which iMovie uses internally to do all it's editing within the program. Once converted to AIC .mov it will import right into iMovie without any further transcoding and conversion (one step in effect).

  • How do I make still Images the same size as the video when importing? CS5

    Hi,
I'm having a problem importing and using still images as they are so large.
    The video is 720 x 576 and the image I want to use is 4752 x 3168
How can I scale it down to fit with the video. Currently it just zooms in to a part of the picture making it pretty useless.
Any suggestions would be much appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Lois

I made a tutorial on this exact thing.

  • Audio only, no video, when importing .avi  -  VP60

I'm trying to make a machinima (Sims 3) and am new to "serious" video editing and Premiere (I have done little projects on Windows Movie Maker and stuff like that before). I'm using the trial version of CS5.5.
My problem is that whenever I try to import .avi clips, they import as audio only and no video. The files open fine in Windows Media Player. The weird thing is that this has only started happening in the middle of my project, after I've already successfully imported and worked with several files recorded in the same way  (and so I assume they were the same format).
After researching this issue as much as I've been able to, I downloaded the oft-recommended Gspot utility and took a look at some of the problem files. It says the codec is VP60, but that I already have it installed.
I haven't, to my knowledge, done any kind of converting or compressing of any of the videos before this happened. Another weird thing, though, is that files that imported correctly before are now only importing audio just like the newer ones.
I have tried converting these files to mp4's and other formats, which brings the video back into Premiere, but at a great loss of quality. I've also tried updating/reinstalling Quicktime and even a system restore, all without any luck.
Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated, as I have a deadline FAST approaching!

This is a distribution format, not intended to be edited, because of the heavy compression. You have several options:
    1. Try with consumer editor, like Magix, or WMM.
    2. Convert to something editable and accept the quality loss.
    3. Get the original, not compressed material from the copyright owner.

  • Audio plays fine, but video is now corrupt... green, distorted video window

I have various quicktime files on the pc that played fine but are now unable to be viewed. I have downloaded again, they play fine... but now a few days later... audio, but no video at all... not "scrambled", just video "noise", really.
    I have reinstalled quicktime.
    Any ideas??

"Green" gets me thinking about issues with DirectX on the PC.
Have you tried the "Disable Direct3D acceleration in QuickTime" section from the following document? (iTunes uses QuickTime for video playback, so the same basic troubleshooting procedures apply.)

  • No video when importing an asset

I have tried compressing a file in Compressor using best quality 150 min. 4:3. When I drag it into DVD Studio Pro, and scrub through the timeline, I don't get any picture until I drag it to the end of the video. I can't get any other part of the movie to show except for that last part. The audio is fine. I can click on the file through Finder and preview the movie, which looks absolutely fine through the preview, so I'm pretty sure it's not Compressor's fault. I am new at this, what should I try and do?

Have you encoded the audio to Dolby Digital? Can you build the project and preview it with Apple DVD Player before trying to burn it.

Did you ever get an answer to this? I just experienced the distortion when I imported a video from my iPhone 4 to iPhoto.
