Green hue to black images ?

My eMac (1.25 GHz,USB 2.0 model) looks fine when I look at any kind of photo or graphic on the screen. Unless it is a graphic that is mostly black. Like the iPhone page now on the Apple home page.
When a black image is covering most of the screen the menu bar and other exposed areas have green hue to them. Even the non-image area of the CRT turns green.
Have any other graphic on the screen and it looks crystal clear and sharp, most importantly the correct color. The non-image area of the CRT is black.
I have tried calibration, better, but not resolved.
This is not a slight hue difference, but a large on.
If the guns were damaged I would expect this hue all the time, but I can not understand why it comes and goes. Luckily it is not present more than it is.
Any ideas what is wrong ?
And how to resolve it ?
I just reinstalled 10.4 and applied all updates.
Thanks,
Mike

Hi Michael
Some thoughts:
1. Have you done any simple tests to exlude optical illusion, by holding up a black sheet of paper and trying to reproduce the effect.
2. Degaussing the monitor is simply done by leaving it switched off and physically unplugged, and disconnected for three or four hours. Also consider if it is receiving interference from other strong electromagnetism, say on the other side of the wall.
3. I am wondering if your eMac was one of those affected by the 'bad capacitor' problem. Though, to be fair, your symptoms don't exactly match the condition of those afflicted models.
you can check whether your model is affected here:

Good luck in solving your mystery.

  • Z10 Camera Issues - Black image, no pics

    During use of the rear camera on my Z10, the live image started to show streaks of lines in blue, green, or red, with the rest of the image being a shade of one of those colors.  The pictures taken would look like these distorted images. I restarted the device and also pulled the battery.  Initially no help, though after another restart, the live image now shows black, as if the camera has a lens cap over it.  When trying to take a pic (even though a black image), it clicks as if it’s taking pic, but nothing is being saved.  I’ve swapped options between saving to device and SD card (and removing the card), no change.  So at this point, black image on live view and no pics recorded/saved when taken.  Front camera seems ok.  Any thoughts?

    might be a bad camera, you could back it up and wipe it to prove that it is not the OS

  • How do I lighten or remove dark/black images or layers in Photoshop CS5?

    For several months, I have been trying to find the best ways to reduce the excessive amount of toner that is required to print many pdf documents in black and white, or even grayscale.  I use Leanprint but it can still leave pages of dark and black images.
    Several Adobe Acrobat X posts say to use Photoshop to remove black graphics and/or reduce the darkness of images.  However, they give no further information about what to do in Photoshop.  I am not a simpleton but I know very little about Photoshop other than that there are probably several ways to accomplish this, depending on the circumstances.  I dread having to spend more hours trying to figure out what is the best option to use in each specific situation.
    It is puzzling that it has been so difficult to find the information needed, especially since many other people would like this information as well.
    I hope that someone can advise me or just point me to some directions and resources  as places to start.   Even knowing the best search terms to find this information could be useful.
    Thank you for any assistance.
    Cathy

    Ok, something to keep in mind with CS5 photoshop any change of its brightness and or contrast usually is considered a permanent change.
    However if your image is a camera raw file (straight from the camera in its native raw format) a tiff or a jpg, you can and should open the file in Adobe Camera Raw (ACR) as any edits done in ACR are non-destructible in that any changes made can be changed or reset at any later time in the future as it does not alter the image it self, but applies the edits to the metadata.
    That said, it means in order for a program to see those changes it needs the ability to read the metadata, which not all programs can do.
    In ACR you will find a contrast slider, by decreasing the contrast the image will become lighter. You can also increase the highlights or whites and you can decrease the shadows or blacks. This effectively is similar to lowering the contrast, but because it is an additional step, you can do all three sliders effectively reducing the contrast even further than you would be moving the contrast slider by itself.
    Since this is a metadata alteration, this change you made can be applied to a folder full of images that are the same formats I mentioned above, or you can select a group of images in bridge and apply to just the selected group.
    At any time in the future you can remove the edits should you need to use the original image once again.

  • Encore CS4 asset import creates black images

    Running Encore CS4 on Win 7 32-bit;   4GB RAM,  Radeon 7750 graphics
    If I do an Import of assets, namely a bunch of standard, out of camera jpegs, about 2.5-4MB in size, then CS4 imports them but anywhere from 10-100% of them will just be black images.
    Only solution I've found is to clear out the bad ones, save, close project, re-open project, re-import.  Sometimes you can only import them one at a time without going through a close/open project step.  Just clearing the image and trying to re-import without  closing the project never works.
    Worse - after re-opneing the project, sometimes some of the 'good' images have gone black and have to be re-imported.
    Never had this problem with Encore 2.0.
    Not having this problem with Encore CS3, but a CS3 project opened in CS4 also displays a bunch of black images which were OK in CS3.
    So 2 questions
    - anybody seen CS4 being so stupid as this? and have a real fix? (as it took me 4 hours to add 60 images yesterday, which is ridiculous)
    -  given CS3 seems to work (and opens projects much faster), is ther any downside to staying on CS3?

  • Reduce File Size in Acrobat Pro (9.5.5) Corrupts Graphics in PDF Documents - shows up as black image

    Whenever I use Reduce File Size in Acrobat Pro (9.5.5), sometimes some of the images (not all) get corrupted and show up as a black image in the new document.
    Actually, the new reduced document looks okay when viewed in Acrobat, but the problem shows up when viewed in the Preview application on the Mac.
    I'm using Acrobat 9.5.5 with Mac OS 10.8.6
    I've tried re-importing the graphic into a new graphic box, which didn't work.  Thinking there may be some type of corruption with the actual graphic file, I then tried viewing the graphic, then taking a screenshot of it to create a completely new file, and then re-importing the new graphic file into the original document (created in Adobe In Design 5.0.4).  I then export the new document as a pdf, and brought it into Acrobat Pro to do the Reduce File Size.  Same thing happens - black box appears where the graphic was.
    I then tried using the Reduce File Size within the Save As function of the Preview application on the Mac - while the graphic remains intact, many of the other graphics in the document are "reduced" too much, to the point where the image quality is seriously degraded, and therefore not usable.
    Any other ideas?

    Hi Anoop,
    I can share the graphic file, but not the pdf which contains it (as it contains confidential information) - thanks!

  • IPHONE 5: Saving images to camera roll from an email results in a black image

    I have emailed myself a couple images  (medium res .jpgs) and when I open the email the colors are overly bright. When I then go to save them, they save as a very dark black image with a little bit of a blue outline of the image. Anyone know what the problem is? Thanks in advance!
    PS these images are illustrations I have made in illustrator/photoshop. Not sure if that matters though.

    Depending on the format of the video you may or may not be able to do this.
    If its a supported format, like m4v or similar, you can tap and hold on the icon in the email and a box with options should pop up.  One of them being "Save Video". This will save the video to the camera roll.
    If you don't have the "Save Video "  option you will not be able to save it your camera roll, but still might be able to save it to an App that can play the video by tapping the icon for the App in that same screen.

  • Solution to "Black image when adding a watermark in Aperture"

    Hi,
    I read an archived topic about people having issues with adding a watermark to their exported images using Aperture 1.5.2. I think the solution lies with what your current Display color profile (System Preferences > Display > Color) is set to and what color profile you used to create your watermark.
    I created my original watermark using Photoshop CS2 and I believe that the watermark was saved using the sRGB Profle. However, I then calibrated my monitor using a Pantone Huey and it changed the color profile in my System Preferences. So every time I tried to export an image with a watermark from Aperture, I would get a black image with my watermark in the correct spot.
    To solve the problem, I changed my Color Profile to sRGB Profile, then started Aperture. When I exported my image, everything came out properly.
    Hope this is helpful to others.

    I also just ran into this problem...my solution was an issue with the RAW fine tuning.
    Images that used the new RAW fine tuning 2.0 (with Aperture 2) exported watermarks (I used a .psd file) just fine, but when exporting images with RAW fine tuning 1.1, a black box would show up around my watermark. So I migrated my images to RAW fine tuning 2.0 and it fixed the black box issue.

  • How to Change the color of the black image

    Hi,
    I have created a black image. But want to insert some text and chnage the color of the same. I am trying to do it, by usign various classes of javax.imageio.*, java.awt.image. But, I have not the required output till now. I am showing my code below. The image I created is totally black.
    Any suggestion greatly appreciated.
    File f = new File("C:/tomcat5.5.15/apache-tomcat-5.5.16/webapps/plugintest/03974701.jpg");
    BufferedImage image = ImageIO.read(f);
    int height = image.getHeight();
    int width = image.getWidth();
    int type = image.getType();
    ColorModel cm = image.getColorModel();
    System.out.println("Width of the Image is "+width);
    System.out.println("Height of the Image is "+height);
    System.out.println("type of the Image is "+type);
    BufferedImage image1 = new BufferedImage(width,height,type);
    //image1.setRGB(45,45,rgb);
    File f1 = new File("blank.jpg");
    RenderedImage ri = image1;
    ImageIO.write(ri,"jpg",f1);

    Color c = new Color(0, 0, 0);
    Graphics g = image1.getGraphics();
    g.setColor(c);Thanks for your suggestion I added these lines to the
    code(code is shown above), but the there is no change
    in the color of the jpg image saved in the file. Am I
    missing something.Yes.
    a) Do you know what color 0,0,0 is? Hint: not mauve
    b) When you call set color that sets the drawing colour. But you aren't drawing anything. You can draw things with the methods of Graphics and Graphics2D. I suggest starting with fillRect

  • Photos in iPhoto from my photostream are showing up as black images (not pictures).

    I have been experiencing issues with my iPhoto in the past few weeks and photostream. My photostream on my phone has all of my photos intact, however, on my macbook pro about 90% of the photos in my photostream show up as black images/boxes. Included below is a picture of what my "photos" from my photostream look like on my computer. I have also experienced issues with iPhoto running very slowly/almost being unresponsive. I have iPhoto v9.3 and OS 10.7.4. Any help is appreciated!

    If I click on one of the black boxes it opens a larger view of the box as if it is a photo and gives you all of the editing options that are usually displayed. I've included a screenshot of how this appears in case the visual explanation is clearer than my verbal one. If you look at the bottom of it too you will notice that there are maybe three or four photos along the bottom reel that are intact but the rest are black boxes. I have also included another screen shot of my photo stream that shows these black boxes with a normal photo.

  • Importing black images from my 4s on to iphoto

    Hey there
    can anyone help me with an issue on iphoto? recently im importing some photos from my 4s and some of them are coming up as black images on my iphoto ....
    does any one else have this issue ?
    ive tried doing the repair library on i photo by pressing command + ALT but it hasnt improved it....
    can any one recommend any options for me  ?
    Thanks alot
    Wayne

    Do you have a passcode lock on your iphone? I have a 4s and many of my photos turn up black in iPhoto.
    I THINK that this happens because you take photos without unlocking your phone, so you technically "wouldn't have pemissions" on those photos. I only think this because I sometimes need to take a quick picture and don't unlock my phone, and those are the photos that are black on iPhoto.
    I also tried repairing my library, but nothing.  I guess we must wait.

  • HP psc 1210 all in one printer - Printing photos with Green Hue

    Hey folks,
    it used to work fine, now for no apparent reason, it is printing out photos with a strong green hue. They all come out looking very green and yellow.
    I have done several things - i have downloaded and updated all printer software and drivers, i have ran all printer calibrations and cleaning programs, i have accessed Macbook utilities folder and ran all colorsync utility's such as repair and adjust hue. What is going on here? I am completely stumped with this one.
    Thanks,
    Steve.

    Hi,
    What application you are scanning from? is it Paint or Windows fax and scan?
    Can you see the same behavior while using any of those options?
    You may find the exact steps to scan on Windows 7 with the PSC 1210 within the FAQs section below:

  • 3 green dots on my image from the built in camera is this normal?

    Whenever I use skype for video calling, Ichat, or photo both there are 3 green dots on my image. They're just anoying and can be seen by the people I'm video chatting with. Is this normal? I can see that beside the camera there are dots one on each side. Are they BOTH suppose to light up green when the camera is in use? Mine, only the right one lights up when in use. Is this something that I should be worried about? Thanks!

    Hi,
    If you have one of the very newest Macs and the Manual refers to the Internal Camera as  "Face Time" one then it could be capable of HD in some apps.
    I have a USB External camera in use with my G4 Computer
    In this pic I tilted it to capture an Overhead light as well as the top of my head.
    The Pic was taken about 7.45 in the evening  (I am about 100 miles west of London so it is still quite light outside).
    As you can see the Lens cannot cope with the Brightness of the overhead bulb (it is only 50watts) and visual distortions appear as well.
    Not only are there the larger flare effects but between the red and blue arrows there are also radiating white lines towards my head.
    Your Screen will reflect what is in the room.
    How glossy it is will effect the amount you notice.
    With a darker background you are likely to notice that you can see your own reflection.
    Tilting the screen will move your reflection up or down and possibly at some angles you will not be able to see yourself (you would "drop off" the bottom as you close the lid on a laptop for instance)
    If I place a light behind my screen so my face is lit up when it is darker here then it reflects off my glasses and people cannot see my eyes.
    I can imagine the case if you wear glasses and have the screen at a certain angle then the green Indicator light is being reflected back to the Camera and is showing up in the pic.
    This would certainly "Drop Off" the bottom when you tilt the Screen further.
    There may be something that has roundish surface that is behind you that is reflecting the green of the indicator light.
    This is a pic of an Effect called Frosted Glass
    It is supposed to look like the sort of glass your get in a bathroom.
    I post it so you know the type of glass I mean.
    My front door, which  is close to my computer,  has this type of glass but also with a wood effect pattern to it.
    this has many ridges and grooves.
    At times this produces prism type effects on the walls (I have my computer positioned so they don't get on the screen)
    I can imagine that a similar effect may happen from a light that has a galss shade or one of those with coloured glass beads making up the shade is scattering green light in this case all round the room and you just happen to see three of them in the video feed picture.
    My thought in the earlier post was an effect from the bevelled edge of a mirror that might be scattering light.
    Other causes
    You mention a light sensor.
    My MacBook Pro has one somewhere that controls when the Keyboard backlight needs to light up.
    I am not sure where it is on mine.
    It may be that it has been repositioned on newer computers to the top of the screen.
    It may also be something to do with the camera as it maybe HD, to actually indicate there is not enough light to do a HD pic.
    However I can't see any indication of this in the Specs sheet for a MacBook Pro.

  • Black images in my iPhone's photo album

    Hello,
    When i synced my iPhone with iPhoto on my mac and then deleted the pictures off my iPhone when Iphoto asked, there are now black images in my photo album on my iPhone. How do I get rid of these? I've tried to delete them on my iPhone but that doesn't seem to work.

    Were you able to fix this? The same thing is happening to me, my iPhone4 is new, and I had never had this problem with my 3G. It's happening when I move photos into the trash...I'm left with a black image.

  • Black images in PSE9 organizer?

    I recently scanned some old B&W prints to TIFF files but they only show as black images in PSE9 organizer although they appear normally in the editor. Files that don't appear are all less than 1Mb file size. Any suggestions about how to have these images appear properly in the organizer would be appreciated. Thanks in advance

    Here are the release notes for PSE9:
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/861/cpsid_86152.html#main_Photoshop Elements Organizer notes
    Specifically, this section (emphasis added):
    Organizer thumbnails:
    If an image has been rotated in an application other than Photoshop Elements 9, update the thumbnail before printing or using the image in a creation to ensure that the images appear properly rotated. To update the thumbnail, select the image(s) and choose Update Thumbnail or Update Thumbnail for Selected Items in the Edit menu.
    Some TIFF files and files that use uncommon color profiles may appear black or as generic thumbnails in the Organizer. To fix this, select the file, and choose File Export As New File(s). This will save the file with the supported set of file tags required by the Organizer to show the thumbnails.
    Very large files appear with generic thumbnails. For example, panoramas created with Photomerge Panorama return multiple layers, which, when saved, creates very large files. To make thumbnails visible in the Organizer, consider saving panorama files as flattened JPEG images
    Files that are not supported in the Organizer look like broken thumbnail icons. You can import these files by saving an album containing a file in an unsupported format, using the Photoshop Elements Editor, or importing files not supported by the Organizer, using Premiere Elements.
