Green light, but internet doesn't work

Okay, so I just got an Airport Extreme, because I've been using an Ethernet cable from a router for the longest time, and for some reason it wasn't working very well and I had to hold it in at a certain angle. Anyway, so I finally got the Airport to flash green, and the Utility thing says it's all set up, but I can't connect to the internet using it. I was wondering if this was because my Ethernet cord is all crappy? Please help!

Hard-2 ,
First think to check it to see what IP address it has picked up, if it's 192.x.x.x then fine, if 196.x.x.x the it hasn't got it's self configured, presuming you are using DHCP from the router?

Despite the connection indication you may not really be connected to your WiFi network.
Your router may not have given your iPod a valid IP address. To check on this go to Settings > Wifi > your network name and touch the ">" to the right to see the network details. If the IP address shown starts with 169 or is blank then your router didn't provide an IP address and you won't be able to access the Internet.
Sometimes the fix for this can be as simple as restarting your router (remove power for 30 seconds and restart). Next, reset network settings on your iPod (Settings > General > Reset > Reset network settings) and then attempt to connect. In other cases it might be necessary to update the router's firmware with the latest from the manufacturer's support web pages.
If you need more help please give more details on your network, i.e., your router make, model and version, the wifi security being used (WEP, WPA, WPA2), etc.

    Hi, KK93.
Sometimes a simple power cycle of the router and Mac can resolve the issue.  However, try the steps in the article below to troubleshoot the Wi-Fi issue with your MacBook.

  • Iphone says 4G but internet doesn't work

My iphone has full bars and 4G icon but my internet has no connection.

The phone is about one year old.  I can make and receive calls.  I noticed this problem about a month ago. Once I have WiFi connection, internet works fine.  It's really annoying when the phone says 4G (internet connection), but internet doesn't work.  If the AT&T network is not available, why does my iphone say 4G?  Thanks

  • AX green light, but airtune does not work

I just bought an AX. The main purpose is to use airtune and to share printer at home, and to bring it to create wireless network when I am on business trip.
When I first set up the AX, or later do a reset, the setup program can find AX. I use airport admin utility to set up the following:
    Airport tab:
Wireless model: join an existing wireless network (wireless client)
Wireless network: I choose the current wireless network I have at home.
    Internet tab:
    Configure: Using DHCP
I clicked 'Update' button. The status light became green, but airtune does not work. I did not see the button show on iTune for me to choose the speaker. I went back to Airport Admin Utility, but could not find AX at all.
I googled for possible solution, and saw concern regarding DHCP, so I tried:
    Internet tab:
    Configure: Manually
IP address: 192.168.0.30. My wireless router assigns IP from 192.168.0.2 to 192.168.0.33
    Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
    Router address: 192.168.0.1
    DNS server: 192.168.0.1
After updating the information to AX, I have still the same issue: green light, but no airtune, Airport Admin Utility cannot find the AX.
My wireless is a gigabyte. Please help. Thanks.

Sadly I can't help, but i can confirm: I am having the same problem. AirTunes was working fine, up until I went away for a month -- have just returned, and now am getting the same problem with TWO Airport Express units, which makes me think it is some kind of software update issue?
Will keep looking into it, and will let you know if I find anything.

  • My iphone is connected to wireless but internet doesn't work

    hi,
my iphone 4s is connected to wireless, but the internet won't work. i know the internet is working, because i'm able to access it from my computers. and this problem is happening at every wireless network i've tried in the last 48 hours. it is connected to all the wireless networks, but is not getting internet. the phone works and i'm able to get texts. but none of the apps the use the internet are working. i do not have a data plan, so i can only access the internet through wireless.
i have tried all of the following:
    i have restarted my phone.
i have reset my network settings.
i have turned off wifi networking in location services.
still no dice. any other suggestions, short of wiping my entire phone?

    Hi there,
This just happened to me and was super frustrating!  Thank you for your post and working out how to fix the bug.  I have one question.  After you reset your VPN in settings, did you resort your iPhone on your computer after?  I am just wondering if restoring it now will help stop the bug happening in the future?!?!
    Cheers!

  • Iphone 4s connects to wifi but internet doesn't work. Driving me mental, help!!

Been having issues with phone for the last few months, it cuts out the internet 2/3 times a night and I have to reboot the wifi. I originally thought it was the wifi (which it possibly still is) and got a new router, but now the phone connects to wifi but the internet won't work at all. I've looked on a few other posts about changing the DNS but it hasn't helped. We have a few other devices in the house which connect to the internet perfectly, so I really don't know what the issue is. Someone please help!!
    Thanks in advance.

  • Connected to airport, but internet doesn't work

last night my internet worked fine. i use wireless with airport and this morning when i work up my computer from 'sleep' the wireless network was still connected but i'm unable to use the internet at all. any ideas of what is wrong or what to do? i've tried a lot of different things and nothing has worked. please help!

Your wireless router is connected to a cable or DSL modem? Did you power the modem off/on? Power it on/off, then power the wireless router off/on.
Are the lights on the modem flashing as you would expect?
Is there a standby button on the modem that could have been pushed by mistake?

  • Laptop connects to iPhone 4s personal hotspot but internet doesn't work

I want to be able to use internet on my PC laptop (or any wi-fi capable device) with my 4S as the wi-fi hotspot. The laptop I'm using (Windows XP) sees my phone and connects to it (with full connectivity) but web pages won't load (there doesn't seem to be internet connectivity). What am I missing here? I've read you need a separate tethering plan with your wireless provider in order to use your phone as a personal hotspot? That's pretty dumb considering I'm already paying for a data plan and now they want more money on top of that in order to use that? Stupid...

You can call it all the names you want, but the bottom line is that without purchasing a tethering plan, you can't share your internet connection.

  • Laptops show great signal but internet doesn't work

My desktop and several laptops within my family all show excellent internet signals (5 bars); however, two of our laptops connect to the internet but their browsers say we are not connected to the internet (or a "connection is limited"). Two other laptops work fine. I do not think it is a bandwidth issue and I think there is enough room because I have tried connecting with the two bad laptops when all other devices are turned off.
Could my operating system have anything to do with it? I have leopard right now and am considering upgrading to snow leopard.
    Thanks

  • Wifi works but Internet doesn't work on MacBook, works on other computers

My Internet has never been a problem. two days ago it suddenly stopped working on my new mac book. I turned it off and restarted but the Internet (both safari and firefox) won't load. The Internet works fine on my roommates computers. Also at school the Internet is working normally. As well, the mac book says it's connected to our network but the pages just never load. Any help is appreciated.

    Hi JaschaW,
Can you try to update me with more specific details. The only idea I can think of now, is for you to :
    1) Open System Preferences>Network.
    2) Click on Airport, go to TCP/IP.....check if there's any setting being set to Manual on the IP address part.
OR you can try doing this....
    Shut down your mac.
Switch it on back......now quickly press the Apple Key + the "S" key. Hold it there, until a black screen is prompted. It will prompt you to type a command, in order for you to proceed to boot normally. Do that....after that another prompt....type "exit" without the inverted comma.
Try that....let me know if it works....
    Cheers

  • Airport is Connected, But Internet Doesn't Work

Hey guys. I have a 17" PowerBook G4 running Tiger. My problem is with Airport. I can't seem to connect to any network. What's strange is, I have a full signal, Open Internet Connect shows that I am connected. Everything seems ok. I can use ethernet to connect to the internet. I know that it is an issue with the computer because I can't connect to any networks, I've tried about 4 times. I've tried network diagnostics and assistant, nothing works. Any ideas?

if ur connecting to a home modem-router(not someone elses), id suggest turning off any other computers attached to the modem or router network, and then turn off ur powerbook, unplug ur router and unplug ur modem and leave for 2 minutes, then turn modem on-wait 1 minute-turn router on-wait 1 minute-turn powerbook on and try to connect

  • Macbook says its Internet connected but Internet doesn't work.

My MacBook which has not been used for a long time chow full wifi strength bet when I try to do anything Internet related safari says that it can't find the server.

I have had the same issue and searched the forums and found nothing that helped. I contacted apple support and this is what they told me to do:
First we’ll do the SMC reset
1.) Shut down the Mac and connect to power source.
2.) Unplug external devices, flash drives, external monitors, external HD (Keep the Mac plugged into power source)
3.) Hold down “Shift” + “Control” + “Option” (On the left side of the keyboard) + Power key for 30 seconds.
*The Mac should remain powered off during the reset, the LED on the MagSafe Adapter may change colors.
**The “Option” key is also known as the “Alt” key on some Macs.
Awesome, now let’s reset the NVRAM
    1.) Locate these keys “Command”, “Option, “P” & “R”
    2.) Power on your Mac
3.) Immediately press and hold all 4 keys “Command” “Option” “P” “R”
4.) Listen for 2 boot chimes and then release.
**The “Option” key is also known as the “Alt” key on some Macs.
Posting this here in the hopes that it will help someone else still searching for an answer.

  • Time Capsule has green light, but unable to access the internet

My Time Capsule has a green light, but all devices (wired and wireless) are not allowed out to the internet.
When I connect my iMac directly to my internet router, I am able to access the internet, so I have isolated the issue to the Time Capsule.
The Time Capsule receives an IP address from my internet router via DHCP and I can see this address in the Time Capsule config, but for some reason the Time Capsule is not allowing internet access to both wired and wireless clients.
    Thank you.
    --SN124B

Verify that you have a working Ethernet cable.
Then verify that the Ethernet cable is connected from one of the LAN <-> ports on your main router to the WAN "O" port on the Time Capsule.
Check again to make sure that the Time Capsule is configured in Bridge Mode
Power cycle the entire network as follows:
Power off all devices in any order you want
    Wait a few minutes
Start the modem or modem/router first and let it run a full minute by itself
Start the main router next the same way
Start the Time Capsule the same way
Continue starting devices one at a time until everything is powered back up
    Check the network
