Green light is off

My time capsule light will not light up. Not green or any other color

Unfortunately, this is likely an indication of a power supply failure. Suggest that you take the TC to an Apple Store....if you have one near you....or contact Apple Support directly to discuss your options.

If the TC is out of warranty, you can probably have the device repaired...although Apple will not offer this.  See this link provided by forum Time Capsule guru LaPastenague for suggestions:

    Ruth, welcome to the forum.
You did a nice job of diagnostics.  Thank you for the detailed information.
I suggest testing the memory.  The specifications say that there is 1x2 GB and 1x4 GB (= 6 GB).  Remove all of the memory and replace each module one at a time and boot.  The single module should be installed in the slot nearest to the Processor.

  • How to Turn Camera, Including the Green Light, Off When Finished Using It?

Just used the integrated camera to take a picture, but can't figure out how to make the green light go off.

I purchased rechargeable batteries - they are more to begin with, but over time, they are a much better and less expensive choice. This from Apple:
If you won’t be using your Bluetooth device for an extended period, turn it off to maximize battery life. To turn it off, use the on/off switch.

  • My 2008 Macbook only charges when it's sleeping. When it's awake, the MagSafe adapter blinks green on and off. I've cleaned the connectors and the problem is still there.

This is a recent problem, only since I updated the last security update from apple has this been happening. No matter where I plug the laptop in (as in, no matter the power source), the magsafe adapter glows green like it's going to charge, that lasts roughly a second and my mac behaves as if it's going to charge (different status bar indicator and brightness jumps).. aaand then the green light shuts off completely, mac brightness & status indicators go back to normal.  Then the light comes back on, then shuts off, rinse, repeat.  When I put the mac to sleep or shut it down completely, then plug the magsafe in, it works and charges just fine. But then the second I wake the mac up, the orange charge light shuts off and it goes into the green light loop again.  Weird issue, just putting it out there to see if anyone's had that happen before and can offer tips. I've tried resetting the SMC and removing the battery when it's shut down, btw. Halp!

    Hello brixton81,
Thank you for providing so much information about what you are experiencing with your MagSafe adapter.  I recommend reviewing the article below to troubleshoot this issue.  You have already gone through some great troubleshooting steps, some of which are in the article, and you can skip those since you have already taken them:

  • External iSight Powers Up (Gets Green Light) Then Stops

I have one of the first iSights I can confirm worked up until two years ago. At that point I unplugged it and never plugged it back in. It stayed mounted on the computer. Today, I decided to re-plug it back in but I can't get it to stay on. I've followed all the step in the troubleshooting guide (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2090) and I've even plugged it into three other Macs. Same results:
    The device turns one
    Green light comes on
    Then there's a quick noise
    Green light goes off
Device is not recognized by the machine.
Is it simply old and unusable now?

Do not be concerned that the little green indicator light atop your iSight illuminates for a few seconds and then goes dark when you first connect your iSight or power on your Mac. Neither should you be concerned that you hear a soft whir as iSight attempt to focus either. Both these occurrences are normal.
On its own, the fact that the green light goes out will NOT prevent your iSight's proper function with applications that can use your iSight. (Test with only one app at a time.)
Note that iSight can be picky about sharing your Mac's Firewire, so be sure you have NO other Firewire devices connected while you are trying to get iSight working. Also disconnect any other A/V devices you might have such as game boxes, TV, audio, or video converters, etc., while you are troubleshooting iSight.
... followed all the step in the troubleshooting ... plugged it into three other Macs.
... Device is not recognized by the machine.
You have done some great troubleshooting. Failures on other Macs is particularly informative.
If you have considered all of the suggestions I offer for testing your external iSight in
http://www.ralphjohns.co.uk/EZJim/EZJimpage4.html but your external iSight is still not recognized as a Firewire device in System Profiler, you almost certainly have hardware trouble. However, your problem may be repairable.
Is it simply old and unusable now?
An Apple Authorized Service Provider may be able to repair your iSight. Some local, phone, web, and third party repair possibilities are identified here:

  • Can't wake Pismo from sleep - no green light

I have a Pismo G3 all working perfectly with a new harddrive new ram etc, but I have a intermittent problem that when I leave the computer alone it will go to sleep, the screen goes black and the green light on the hinge will pulse up and down as it should, and if I wake the computer it pops back to life as it should, except sometimes when I come back to use the computer the screen is black BUT the green light is OFF, no pluse and the computer is unresponsive and I cannot wake it up? the only way I know it is still on is the fact I can hear the hard drive and in the end I am forced to do a hard reboot????
    Any ideas anyone?

    Bluefusion,
This is a known problem not only on the Pismo but even some of the later models...powerbook wakes from sleep with a dark display.
One workaround some have found useful: Just close the display and wait until the sleep light indicates normal sleep, then open the display.
Here is an extensive tutorial for wake-from-sleep issues:

  • Is there a way to switch off by default the video on FaceTime? I only ever use this app for audio/calls and hate the video being on. I especially hate that if I leave the app open to receive calls it means the camera and green light are on.

My issue is that I can't find a way to have the camera switched off when the app is open and so this means if I want the app open all day to receive calls then the camera is going to be on the whole time. Even if it didn't potentially drain the battery, or add to the CPU usage or whatever else may cause any problems whatsoever (wheel of death!), I just don't want the camera on as I don't see myself ever wanting to use the video call feature but I would use the audio/call multiple times throughout the day to make and receive calls. The camera being on when the app is open is enough to prevent me from using the app. Also ever since seeing that episode of criminal minds where if you saw the green light on above the screen then it meant the killer was watching you!
Basically I just can't believe there isn't a way to disable the camera whilst having the app running. I know when initiating an audio call the camera goes away, but I would like the camera away the whole time. To me it just would make sense that if you click the video option then the camera is on, and if you click the audio option then the camera goes off. It just seems waaaaay to basic a thought for apple to have missed... Let's face it, we're not all as pretty as the people in the apple adverts and don't want to see our ugly mugs staring back as us when we work all day at our macs!

I have exactly the same concern. It seems it would be a simple fix for Apple to allow users to turn off the camera (and even the mic) while keeping FaceTime open -- especially now that it turns out FaceTime must remain open in order to send and receive iPhone calls on a Mac.
I like to think this new functionality of FaceTime will be baked into a future release of Yosemite, as the current setup has that not-quite-finished feel of a work in progress. In the meantime, there's nothing like a little piece of Post-It stuck over the camera to keep the NSA from watching your face as you type a post to the Apple Support Communities.

  • Macbook Pro Mid 2014 Retina Flashing green light on charger when fully charged (macbook turned off or lid closed)

    Hi there,
Just got a Macbook Pro Retina Mid 2014. I have noticed that when the Macbook is turned off or the lid is closed the green light on the charger is blinking. It seems it does this when the Macbook Pro is fully charged and I am not sure if it is a fault with the charger or if it just does this when its fully charged? When the laptop is open and plugged in it doesn't do this.

You tried the SMC Rest right?
Step by Step to fix your Mac
I don't know what else to do.

  • How do I turn off my built in camera (green light)? It's always on.

How do I turn off my built in camera (green light)? It's always on.

That's my next move. Just read about other people having the same issue & turning it off (not re-starting) & waiting a few minutes before turning it back on has worked for some & not for others...
    Wish me luck.

  • HT3205 Green light flashing on and off every second

What is indicated by the green light on the charger going off and on every second?

Usually it is a charger or battery issue.
    Try a SMC reset:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT396
Use the method which applies to your Mac, a battery you should remove (most likely)
You can also check the battery status by clicking on the Apple logo and About This Mac, More info or system profile (depending on which oSX you are using as it is not in your profile) Power in the left side bar and check battery health and other stats.

  • ISight Camera not working and green light won't cut off

Ok, so I used to use macs all the time (exclusively) then I left for a few years, and now that I am back I have had a great experience so far except for this oddity...
I have no idea why but all of the sudden my little green light beside my built-in isight camera won't go away, I am not even trying to use it in any application. When I do, however, try to use it in photobooth for example it yields nothing but blackness. So, to troubleshoot I figured I'd try two things:
Re-installing Mac OS X from scratch using the CDs that came with it (no big loss, I wanted to customize the installation anyways)
Reset the SMC (I am used to resetting PRAM and stuff like that, so it's been a while for me)
Both of those have yielded no change.
I would have searched the forums for answers but apparently that feature has been turned off temporarily to help "improve support", or something I read rather quickly earlier lol
So I call upon you, Mac Geniuses, to please come to my aid...surely there is something else I can do to fix the isight on my macbook. I just got it, granted I got it refurbished from Apple, I expected nothing less than top notch from Apple as they have always delivered before.
Thanks in advance for any help!!
    -Joshua

Ok, my mistake...When I went to reset the SMC I noticed when I upgraded the memory the retention bar that holds things *around the battery, I guess* into place wasn't in there the way it should be, the metal tab wasn't in it's little slot, so I fixed that error, then went on with the procedure and then no more problem
I'm an idiot, Apple rules, I'll be the first to admit it LOL
    Have a great day!

  • Can't get camera green light to turn off !

    Hello,
I hope this is the right forum to post this question, if not sorry and please direct me if you can to the correct area.
I have an 08 Macbook. Never had a problem with it since it's barely a year old. One thing I have noticed is that my camera's green light is ALWAYS on. I never run any apps that would use the camera, I have gone back made sure they were all closed, made sure that nothing was to open automatically in startup that would cause it to turn on as well. Yet it continues to persist. The strange thing is that when I open Photobooth the screen is black! I have no idea why this is happening.
I did some quick googling and the only way I can get it to turn off is to start my computer by doing command option p r.
Does anyone know why this is happening and how I can make it stop once and for all? I don't want my camera being on all the time and it freaks me out that there are no apps using it!
    Thanks

    Hi EZ Jim,
    I would consider iGlasses first.
Back ground app launched at Start Up but not listed in System Preferences > Accounts > Login items and available to all apps that can access the camera including a Web Browser.
Have not tried it Safari 4 and that Favourite pages bit that might hold Mebeam of Googlemail Chat page in the History.
The Screen Saver might be a bit of a stretch.
I am presuming that 1) he might have one and 2) it is not releasing the camera when not doing Screen Saving.
I am also presuming it might have a faulty idle time that makes the OS think the Screen Saver should be in view or possibly the time is set so short regular input is the only thing stopping the screen Saver from showing.
I am not sure many people would regard it as "an App" as such either, hence my phrasing.
The Nanny Cam stuff may be an app.
I have Evocam of the two we regularly mention and it can be hidden (Or set to Hide on using red Button).
That might need me to presume the computer is not shut down that often as it does not have an Option to add it to Login items on my Leopard Computer.
Whilst Hidden though, it can continue to stream.
This one was the furthest stretch.
So I thinks some are possibles.
Nanny cam is the most unlikely but depends on the app involved settings.
As part of the specs do suggest security then we have to consider some with access to the computer might look in the most obvious places first to see what was running, DOCK Login Items (I am not sure the Screen Saver I tried could push/stream/record or alert by email if movement was seen) but seeing Screen Saver set in System Preferences may not (should not) tell you that info.
(Says he dragging nanny cam stuff back into the picture )
Off to bed for me with so much Think Different stuff going on.
    Catch you soon.

  • How can I turn off the green light indicator on my AirPort Express?

How can I turn off the green light indicator on my AirPort Express? It really annoys me.

    The Zed,
You have two options and you probably won't like any of them.
Using the Airport Utility, click on the AE then "Base Station", then "Options". That will bring up two options for you AE green light, either keep it green at all times or only light up when it is being used.
The second option is put some tape over it.
    Hope this helps.

Well the blinking light shows it's charging, however just to make sure.
Reset the SMC, then connect the machine to a power source that doesn't have a lot of other power items on the same lines (in the walls) in the same room and see how it is in the morning.
For instance use a powerline in another spare room that isn't being used as much.
