Green line and flutter at bottom of screen amidst slowmo dissolves.

I'm editing a wedding shot on miniDV at 30i. As with most weddings I use a lot of 50% speed with frame blending and a lot of dissolves. I've noticed that during some dissolves I get two pixels of what I can only term as flutter on the very bottom of my screen. This is especially noticable generally when I'm going from a bright shot to a dark shot or vice versa. It doesn't happen all the time but it happens very frequently. I also occasionally get a green line that renders for a single frame at the bottom of the screen.
I should note a few things: first, this doesn't appear until I actually render the dissolve. In realtime effects they all look fine. second, the problem is totally consistent even if I rerender. I will always get the same flutter or the same green line at the same time code in the sequence with the same clip every time.
I've only begun my investigations into this problem, but I believe it's a field problem of some kind in that some bug in how FCP renders is not handling the fields properly. I plan to submit a detailed bug report once I narrow the problem down further.
I tried changing my sequence from bottom field first to no field dominance and the problem disappears. My final format is DVD so my question to the gurus out there as a fix for the time being is: if I render my entire sequence with no field dominance and then export it and compress (using something other than Compressor 2 which has known blockiness issues) and in the compression program specify bottom field first will the fields split back out fine without causing some other issue just as if I'd always had it bottom field first? In theory I would think that should be the case.
Also, is anyone else experiencing or come across this problem?

If that is the concern, either crop the offending clip by a couple of scanlines, or use Andy's letterbox generator (in downloads on http://www.proapptips.com - you may have to register, but the plugin is free), and throw it over the offending section...

  • I opened my brand new MacBook Pro the other day and noticed a straight green line from top to bottom near the center of the screen. What is it from and how do I get rid of it????

I am having a problem with my brand new MacBook Pro. After opening my laptop the other day I noticed a straight green line from top to bottom near the center of the screen. What is this from and how do I get rid of it? It is most annoying. Please Help!

Such symptoms bode serious hardware issues and you shouldn't think about fixing it yourself when you are still in waranty. Get to an Apple Store, like the other poster suggests.

  • Iphone 5 LCD screen green lines and bottom quarter all black?

    Hi all,
Over the past few days I have noticed green lines running thorugh my iphone 5 screen , it got really bad last night so I turned the phone off for a bit and put it on the charger came back after an hour and now it's got much worse. The green lines remained; however the bottom right corner has now gone completely black (sometimes it's green)
Bottom half of the screen now not longer works meaning that I can't swipe to unlock. Does anyone know what could have caused this? Can this be fixed and how should I got about fixing this? How much will this cost me?
I've only had the phone about 8/9 months so pretty disapointed.
Any advice would be really appreciated.
    Thanks so much,
    Laura.

for an out of warranty iphone 5 at the apple store could be at least $200 and some change..

  • HT201177 MY MACBOOK PRO IS SHOWN GREEN LINE IN THE CENTER OF THE SCREEN

MY MACBOOK PRO IS SHOWN GREEN LINE IN THE CENTER OF THE SCREEN

It is probably a display or display connector issue. To check this, take a screenshot of the display by pressing Command, Shift and 3 keys. Then, open the screenshot created in Desktop, and see if the line appears. If not, it is a display issue.
If you have not got a MacBook Pro with Retina display, you can repair this yourself. You just need to look for the display connector of your MacBook Pro model in the Internet and install it, and if this does not work, you have to replace the whole display.
However, if you do not know a lot about computers or your Mac is in warranty, you should take the Mac to an Apple Store or reseller to get it repaired

  • Green Line and black Space on Mac Mini TV

I am getting a green line  and a black open space on the side of my Mac Mini TV when I set it up.  I have tried every different resouloution and it is still there.  The problem is that when I click Detect Displays, nothing happens to the screen.
Please help, I just got this today and I want it to function properly ASAP for a Project I am doing.

What kind of connector is it using?
DHCP seems to be a problem, do you have a DVI or VGA adapter & does the TV have that?

  • HDV sequence has green lines and pink dots after export

I digitized some HDV footage from a Sony HVR-VIU into Final cut Pro 7. Everything worked normally through the edit. After exporting the sequence as a quicktime movie, it played back fine as a quicktime. When I attempted to convert it to a media file in Sorenson Squeeze, the file showed up with green lines and pink dots over the picture. To test it differently, I dropped the file into IDVD. Same, result in playback. I've never seen anything like this before, any ideas?

Brad your article was extremely helpful in getting my sequence to work for a DVD. However, I've had success before using the same camera, format, etc., in making DVD's from an HDV sequence, and I'm curious as to what I did wrong this time. The most confusing part to me is that the original quicktime self-contained export played fine through quicktime, but got funky when placed into IDVD and Sorenson's Squeeze compressor. I must have done something wrong up front in digitizing or making settings in FCP, and I'd like to know what it was so I don't do it in the future. Thanks.

  • Dynex 32" Flat screen with green lines and audio problem

I bought thisDynex 32" flat screen in September and it has started to develop problems. It will be on and green lines start forming and go away. Then the sound goes in and out. The green lines come back and the sound works sparsely. I am wondering what is the issue. I have tried unconnected everything; leaving the power off for hours. Somedays it works great or sometimes out of the blue it just craps out but lately I am getting more bad days than good ones. Any help or suggestions would be great. All I got from Dynex was that I had to bring the TV back to BestBuy and have a master technician look at it....

Sounds like it needs servicing.  If you bought it in September it should still be under the 1 yr manufacturer warranty.  You can bring it into the store with your receipt and have customer service send it to service for you.  It will be returned to the store and can be picked up when service is complete.  I will say, however, warranty service can be lengthy.  Expect to not have your TV for a few weeks.

  • My iMAC 27" suddenly displayed thick vertical green lines and then went to a whitish grey screen.  any insight?

While accessing PAGES on my 27" iMAC computer, then screen suddenly displayed thick green vertical lines and then went to a whitish grey screen.  Each time I shutdown and turn back on it shows the same thing and then goes to a blue screen.  The last time I rebooted and I came to this site to try to problem solve.  Any idea?

It sounds like a GPU problem, but I am not sure. Try booting in AHT (Apple Hardware Test) to be sure. Also, if you have another Apple computer, try to boot the other computer with the hard drive from the iMac using target disk mode. While booted on your imac's hard drive, check console for kernel panic logs. Paste only Kernel panic logs not application crash logs here please.

I bought Lion from App Store recently and installed it successfully on my MBP. After few days when I left my machine running Lion from morning till evening I see a thin green line on the left side of the screen. I tried searching the web and tried few options like restarting the machine, resetting NVRAM and doing Apple hardware test (By pressing D while the machine boots). The Apple hardware test did not detect any problem. The green line still exists.
Please suggest me how to get rid of green line.

    Hi Brent,
I took it to apple service center. They did some checks and found out that the display has gone bad and they replced it with new one.
Did you try connecting other display (may be Apple Display or Dell monitor) using an adapter?  In my case the Apple service center people tried doing it and the display was appearing just fine without any green line. So the fault was in my MBP display.

  • Vertical green line on Qosmio's G20 LCD Screen

    (Sorry for my bad English)
    Hi all,
    my laptop have a vertical green line on the right side of the screen.this line is visible in BIOS screen also. so i think it is a hardware related issue.but one good thing is that it is not visible in a white background.i don't know why;
Is there any thing i can do other than replacing the screen(i don't have any warranty on the LAPTOP :( )
The problem occurred after installing windows 7 beta edition,it changed my resolution to 1400 * 900 and i think which may cause an overheat on graphics card which may lead to my problem.
    Please help me.

    > Is there any thing i can do other than replacing the screen (i don't have any warranty on the LAPTOP )
I would not replace the screen before you would not know whats exactly wrong.
I mean there could be also a graphic card issue and not screen issue.
In your case I would recommend connecting the machine to the external monitor to check if the same vertical line would appears on a second monitor.
If the same lines are visible on both screens then its definitely not a screen issue but GPU issue and in such case the mobo must be replaced :(

  • Imported audio has green line and goes out of sync.

What the heck is FCP doing to my audio!!!
I render out a movie and treat it in After Effect (no speed changes) and bring the movie back into FCP in a new seq, I then take the audio exported from the same original seq the video was exported from in FCP and it is out of sync! It drifts, and has the green line on if meaning to me that FCP is changing it in some way, this is PAL 48k and was always PAL 48k.
The only way I can get the audio to sync is to render out a whole movie again and just use the sound from it, then it is in sync with my original.
Any one know what is up?
Also, when I import from an aif captured in Pro Tools the waveform is not in sync with the sound I am hearing! This also has a green line on it when placed in the timeline as if the sample rate is not correct but it is 48K in a 48k seq.
    Mark

Hi JohnDoe2009 - firstly, extracting the audio is not necessary in your case. Simply mute the video's audio, by reducing its level to zero - that is what actually happens when you extract the audio, after all.
It is my experience also, that locking audio clips to particular video clips is not fail-safe if further cropping is done afterwards, especially if that cropping is fairly substantial. Where possible, do the syncing after all crop-editing has been completed.
As a last check I always review the syncing before finalising the movie.

  • LINES AND DOTS ALL OVER THE SCREEN!! ... AGAIN!

    howdo,
I recently got a new 20" intel mac, after less than 24hrs the display has all kinds of weird lines and dots all over it, it kept flickering. Funny thing was that if the machine was then turned off, after about 20mins everythin went back to normal. This happened a few times and after a couple of call to Apple the machine went back, they replaced it with a nice new one ... problem solved??
    Not quite!!
The second machine has been fine, after almost a month with no problems the dreaded lines/dots and flicker have reared up. I thought maybe it was something external causing interference, so removed my sound sticks and all other electrical stuff like lamps etc but it is still happenin intermittantly.
Anyone got any ideas?? or am I gone end up throwin the thing out of my window???

    Ok
The only peripherals were Harmon kardon soundsticks, these have been removed, and a canon printer. The printer seem to be fine. Other electrical stuff in the room includes:- 2 READING LAMPS/ AN IBOOK G4/ POWERBOOK G4/ AN ADVENT LAPTOP/ ANOTHER CANON PRINTER.
I cant understand how these would affect the screen but its gotta be something like eh.
The only software that has been added is IWORK 06/ MICROSOFT OFFICE MAC/ MACSWORD.
The problem usually happens when the mac is left asleep rather than closed down or if it is left on without being used????
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!

    Hi, Theo1997.
Here is a resource that may provide some troubleshooting steps to help with this issue.  See the section related to the iPhone display.
    iPhone: Hardware troubleshooting
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2802
If all troubleshooting steps have been processed, I would recommend taking a look at the section labeled Issue not resolved.
