Green screen background

I understand how to create the green screen and how to mask it out...what I can not figure out how to do is add another background behind the person in the green screen.  Is there a tutorial I can use?  It seems so simple but what I found in the help section did not do a step by step how to....apparently, I need that!  Please help someone...anyone???? Thanks!

Basically, you would place your "background" Clip on Video Track 1, and the green screen Clip on Video Track 2, then apply the Green Screen Effect to that Clip on Video Track 2, adjusting it for the green screen.
Here are some TUTORIALS, but I'm not sure which are specific to Premiere Elements. Still, the process is the same.
Steve Grisetti also covers Green Screen Keying in his PrE books, available at Muvipix.com. Not sure if he covers it in his Learning Series, or his Tips & Tricks section, also on Muvipix.
Good luck,

live type files look grainy and do not fill the background when used for green screen backgrounds. Ideas?

What I want to do is somehow make my entire iMovie project smaller by compressing it somehow but without losing any footage or audio or quality. At the moment the project is a 56GB iMovie project lasting approx 1hr. I have a mixture of miniDV footage, titles created in Live Type (they are better quality than anything available in iMovie) and audio.
The miniDV footage is automatically compressed when it transfers from my camcorder to my Mac, no worries there.
The LiveType titles contain a motion background (imported into LT) and then text which appears and disappears at set points. The titles vary in length but are about 5 seconds each.
The file size for the LT titles is approx 180MB per clip, the movie requires about 20 or so of these clips, making a very large file size overall.
Is there a way that I can save something in LT so that the file size is smaller yet still keep the quality and use the clip in my iMovie ?

  • What is the correct method of removing a green screen background to insert a new digital background?

I am using Photoshop Elements 10 and can't seem to remove the green screen correctly.  When I select the "magic wand" and click on the green screen background it selects it as it should.  But when I hit the delete button on my keyboard it deletes the green background but a white background remains.  So when I go to select my image to drag it to my digital background the white background goes with it.
In the tutorial video I watched it shows a grey and white checkered background after deleting the green screen which allows the user to select and move only the image to the new digital background.  I am following the steps exactly but still can't seem to get it to work.  Any ideas?

I don't know about 10 but in In PSE 8 there is a "Magic Extractor" ( ALT+SHIFT+CTRL+V)   (on the mainu it's under Image ) which makes waaay too easy to seperate a selection from the background
    http://help.adobe.com/en_US/PhotoshopElements/8.0/Win/Using/WS083AC514-D907-483b-84A1-4EA3 989C4C65_WIN.html
As already mentioned, the trick with  the "background layer" is to right click on it in Layers  and use  "Layer from background"This will turn it into a "regular layer".
Then add a another new layer and on this new layer paste your cut-out you created earlier using the magic extractor.

  • Do you know of any safe/free green screen background videos/pictures?

I'm looking to do funny stuff like fake surfing, running with the bulls, celebrity pictures/interviews...Do you know of any websites that provide free green screen backgrounds?

I understand your colleagues quite well. With all benefits of programming in G, documentation, verification, version management is still an open issue. I have not seen NI source code control in operation (and currently we lack the $), so this might help. But I am getting uneasy more and more as our current project grows and grows.
Talking about source code management, that does certainly not mean a "diff" of two C-sources on an editor. I was working for a company that sold SNiFF and had the chance to use it free of charge. Well, that was a great tool. I still miss something similar for G.
Labview VI's have a tendency two develop easily into a mesh of crisscross lines that are difficult to follow and understand unless you redraw again and again those wires
meticuloulsy, regroup here, combine there, sub-vi somewhere else. Everyone is a new version without a real change of the logic. And you better have a dual monitor system and of course a 21" screen, but that you know!
After all, vi-editor is still going strong in certain groups although IMHO it should be dead and buried since 20 years ago. To say that that a vi diagram is the future and take it or die is harsh. A good sourcecode tool would help it's acceptance a lot.

  • Only raw video can be used with green screen background?  What?

    Latest of all software.
I have played with green screen a lot trying to make it work. The instructions say, and the only way to make it work, is to drag the background only to main time line in project pane, then drag a raw video clip from the events viewer on top of it, and choose green screen. This makes the video clip an add on to the main time line which is the back drop (like a title is an add on to a video clip).
As I have railed in other posts, this doesn't make much sense. But the real problem is you can only drag RAW video onto the back ground from events, and can not edit it any way afterwards (since it is treated as an add on, not the main time line). You can edit the back ground, since it is in the main time line.
The bottom line is: you cannot drag a RAW video onto the project pane, edit it and get it the way you want, and then add a back ground via the green screen. This make no sense.
    Am I doing something wrong?
    Any ideas?
    bob

Well, here is a convoluted method that seems to work...
    1) drag the raw video to the project pane, edit to your heart's content.
    2) save it as a .mov file (i.e. you are all done with it no more changes...ever).
    3) import that .mov file File, Import as a new event.
    4) drag the background(s) on to project pane, make it long enough for video
    5) drag RAV .mov file (which is really a finished edited file) on to background, choose green screen).
You now have an edited .mov with a green screen background.
Could green screen be implemented more poorly? It would be hard to see how.
I still feel like I am missing something. Any ideas?

  • How can I change a green screen background?

Today I downloaded a trial version of PSE. This means of course that I'm new to the game. I can follow a step-by-step guide though. Here's what I'd like to do: I've taken a dozen photos of an actor with a green screen as a background. Is there a way that I can chroma-key out the green and put in another color, like gray or perhaps a textured off-white?
I wish I had a more challenging question. Maybe later on when I have a chance to play with the program I'll think up something difficult.

  • Green Screen Background Matching Problem

I have been working on trying to match a background plate to a camera move with green screen elements. I need some help. Looking for someone who might be able to look at the project and give some advice (paid advice).

have spent a bit of time trying different ways of tracking this and none of them were spot on to be honest....
I have emailed to the contact link on your website the best I could get on my tracking programme - it is in a mulitplane node as I mentioned in a previous post.
Take a look - I only did a rough key - so basically what you should do is pull your key - switchmatte it with the original plate and plumb it in to the multiplane through the same input.
If you want to move the position of the BG plate inside the comp then the easiest way is with the move 2d node before multiplane - (you can do it inside but that can be a bit tricky)
BTW - for some reason PFHOE wouldnt accept the dimensions of your origial FG plate so I had to letterbox it to make it 1920x1080 - if you do the same then the track should match
I know its not a perfect result but it is by far the best I could get after trying Stabilizers and smoothcam. If you need better I would suggest trying to find someone with a full copy of PFrack or Bojou who may know a few more little tricks.
    hope it helps

  • Keynote..chat GREEN SCREEN background trick...

I noticed that with LEPORDS new ichat (video) you can place a movie or image in the background, when will this effect make ti to FCP and iLIFE??
This just about kills off Avid, ok, not really but if its in iCHAT it should be in iLIFE and FCP/FCE. Yes?

Everyone is right. Green-screen technology has been around a long time. Professional results can be achieved with minimal money and effort. Honestly, there is very little difference between a professional green screen and some cloth or paint you can get at any local store. As long as you use the basic principles (minimize spill off the background (green screen), keep a solid shade of color in the background, and keep the background color out of your subject - i.e., no green shirts in-front of the green-screen) and you'll do fine. Do some searches for green-screen tips, it's rather simple.
Honestly, if you're in the LA area, surely you know of someone who has access to some sort of studio. If not, local collages are a great place to start. I know for a fact that CSU Northridge has a huge green-screen studio that is RARELY used! Even though it is a horrible setup, it is constantly available and absolutely free. Networking never hurts, well... rarely. Responsible networking.
Hope this helps buddy and good luck with the music videos

  • Green Screen Backgrounds and Converter software

Hello all! I am a HS teacher and my students and I are making movies with IMovie to liven things up a bit. I want to put my students in the background of things like a basketball game and then move to the news room. I found free stock film for backgrounds, but generally I would have to covert it to fit a mov file. What is a good converter. Does anyone have any suggestions for some good backgrounds that I can use? I prefer free, but if there is a program under $100 that is awesome, please tell. Also can you rip off of Youtube and then sample bits from other peoples movies? I am sorry for so many questions. We just have no idea. THANK YOU!

Mpeg Streamclip (free), plus the perian.org plug-in-package is usually the 'swiss army knife' when it comes to conversion. for converting mpeg2 you need additionally the mp2-playback-component, apple.com/quicktime, 30$.

Do your own. nobody knows, what bg suits your needs most - nature photos? artistic abstract? apps like Apple's Keynote offer a wide variety of backgrounds. with paint apps a Pixelmator, 79$, you can instantly create colorful backgrounds.

  • Good Ideas for New iChat 4 "Green Screen" Backgrounds!

Mine is a TV, so it looks like your on TV
    What are your ideas

I used to use ChatFX and had one like the one with the Net cube in the pic
They have another which added banners to top and bottom which you could add text to. One I had was a scrolling RSS feed from these discussions, although it ws processor hungry.
I am sure it will not be long before someone finds an easy way to add video packs like the smilies used to as they are only Quartz composer items.
(they are inside the Show Package > Contents > Resources after right clicking the app in applications)
Quartz Composer is part of the Developers Tools install

  • Can I change the background for the green screen after my project is completed?

    Hello,
My daughter just made a full project in imovie then tried to add the green screen background and found that she has to redo the whole project.  Is there anyway for her to add this after the fact?
    Thank you,
    Heather

If these are purchase movies and not rentals, from iTunes, on your computer, you can select the movie in iTunes, use the key combination command-I to get the info on the movie. A info window pops up. Click the Options tab, a volume slider appears at the top of the window, slide the slider all the way to the the right, click the OK button at the bottom of the window. Then reconnect and sync your iPad, again, to the computer and wait for the movie to update to your iPad, then once everything is complete, eject the iPad from the left hand pane and disconnect. When you play the movie, again, from the iPad, the volume should be louder.
I do not believe you can do this with rented iTunes movies, though as I do not think they are editable as a rental.

  • Remove Green Screen with Adobe Photoshop Elements

    Hi,
I have setup a Green Screen in my home. I took some pictures of my wife with the Green Screen Background and want to remove the Green Screen and replace with a different background. I was able to do this via the Adobe Premiere Elements 7.0 but need help with the Photoshop Elements.
    Any help is appreciated.
    Sridhar

FWIW, She is really easy to select on that green screen if you use a few tricks. The screen shots are in CS3 my preference but worked with Elements limitations to show you how easy she can be selected without any filters.
My end product doesn't look as good as Mark's though. That's a tough act to follow. Thought I'd post this anyway just in case you couldn't get that filter to work in Photoshop Elements 7,
First, make a copy of the image and desaturate it to make it black and white. I prefer using Hue/Saturation from the image menu (CTRL U) and moving desat slider down to -100. Next Invert it (CTRL I), then run levels from the image menu (CTRL L) to push the image towards pure white and black...well close. It should look something like this when these steps are done.
Copy this image to a new layer. (Just in case something goes wrong so you don't have to repeat the last steps). Leave the copy in Normal blend mode. Grab your paint brush tool. Set the brush tool's mode to Overlay blend mode. You will use black and white paint to push dark gray to black and light gray to white. When done, it should look something like this:
Not perfect...I did this really fast and was a bit sloppy and didn't get all of my light grays pushed to whites. Probably not a problem for the hair edges but would need to be fixed for face and body areas as this will be a mask to make the selection.
Select mask that was just made and copy it into your clipboard. Select<All; Edit<Copy. Create and adustment layer mask that has a mask. I used the Solid Color Fill Adjustment layer. Alt click the mask of the adjustment layer you created. It will turn the document white. This is because the mask is now the focus. Now paste. Edit<Paste. This will paste the above mask into the adjustment layer mask. Now, either alt click the mask or click on another layer to remove the focus from the mask. You'll use this adjustment layer as a base to a clipping mask. See next paragraph.
The Solid color fill layer (or whatever you picked) with your mask is going to be the base on which your selection will be built. Create a copy of your original image up above this base layer. Now, hold in the alt key and move your curser in the layers pallete to the line separating these two layers. Notice the cursor changes to an odd symbol...a solid ring and a hollow ring with an arrow. Click the palette on the line separating these two layers. (Release alt key when done.) She should now be covering the mask you created. Areas that are white in the adjustment layer mask will show the original image; areas in black in the adjustment layer mask will be transparent. (Areas that contain shades of gray would be semi-transparent...amount based on the gray's brightness value.)
For the green cast on the edges, I removed that by using a Hue/Saturation adjustment layer to remove the green spill over. If you only wanted to effect the girl and not a new background add it to clipping mask. (Same way...alt click the line between her image and the Hue/Saturation layer.)
Not perfect but this is what I came up with based on the above mask:
