Green screen function in imovie 10.0

Hello Everybody,
in older imovie editions you could unlock advance settings in imovie and then use green screen function for videos.
But now in my new imovie 10.0 i don't find advance settings and so i could not use this function for my videos.
Could anybody help?
Thanks a lot in advance.
Felix

The first step is to create a “connected clip.” When you add a green screen clip to the timeline, simply drag it above the clip you want it to appear on top of. Next, use the Adjustments Bar to set it as a green screen clip. Complete instructions are available here:

  • Green screen editing in iMovie 10.0.04?

You used to be able to do green screen editing in iMovie, is that no longer the case in 10.0.04?

sure, there's green-screen - but handling is a bit different to previous versions of iMovie =simpler , no need to switchON any 'advanced' things ...

  • Does iMovie for the iPad support green screen functionality?

Was wondering if someone could help me out with this  I want to incorporate the use of green screen in my classroom.

Sorry to say that I, too, am having trouble with my camera and iMovie. I have an Olympus Stylus-9000, and it doesn't pick up when I try to import to iMovie. I checked the list of iMovie-supported cameras online, and not one Olympus model was there. I guess we're just unlucky...

  • Can you use imovie's green screen feature to make things invisible?

    Hi,
i have a GoPro, and am making a mount that will give me a 3rd person view while i snowboard.
Like this: https://s3.amazonaws.com/ksr/assets/000/333/633/7ac3cbc3da3b7b2c948f36e6018ea460 _large.png?1357825021 (but home made)
However, the tube will be in video, it would be great if i could edit it out...
I was hoping that i could paint the arm of the mount green, and use the green screen function to edit it out in post. like the skate boards in this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=654lUYIhYk0
I have looked around online, and it seems that the green screen function in iMovie sems limited to just backgrounds...
    Any advice?

    Excuse the delay in replying...
Excellent! - thanks for that xnav
It work even with the delay set to 0.0 on the iPhone Simulator, but not sure about on an iPhone though.
I think I need to read up about @selector and the performSelector instance method.
I found today another possible solution (but have not tried it out though):

  • Imovie 09 Green Screen Lag

I recently built a nice green screen to use with imovie 09. Everything with imovie 09 and green screening has worked so far except... when I select the green screen option, the green screen clip's audio lags. The words don't match up with the mouth.
    Any help would be appreciated

I just received my copy of iLife '09 today and installed it this evening.
Like others, I was looking forward to being able to do simple green screen editing in iMovie instead of bogging down my system with FCP...
But so far I don't see how to do it. When I pull up the "Maps and Backgrounds" box I see the blue screen and green screen, but when I apply them to my movies they just get thrown in as transitions - not behind the actual video clip/subject itself.
Any ideas? Am I doing this wrong? Will I have to go back to FCP???
(Oh, and the "faces" featured in iPhoto takes forever to process a large photo library! My 30Gb library says it's going to take 240 minutes to process.)

  • Green Screen Darkens Background Clip

I am trying to composite via iMovie's green screen function two quicktime movies generated by a 3d graphics program. One movie serves as the background and the other is the greenscreen overlay. The overlay movie is a line drawing with black lines on a 100% green background (rgb 0, 255, 0).
The two movies do composite and the green is clipped out of the overlay movie, showing the background movie playing underneath. However, the background clip is now darkened and the line art in the overlay movie has changed from black to white.
    How can I avoid this?
I have noticed that when the green screen overlay movie overlaps the background clip into which it was added and runs over the next clip, that the portion in the next clip overlays perfectly - black lines and a background movie that retains its original brightness.
    Any advice or help?
I can post a screen grab of my setup in iMovie and I can post the sample movie as well, if that would be helpful.
    Thanks!

I took your PNG and tried it. It didn't work with the PNG. Apparently, static sources like images don't work either. However, I was able to put it into a movie format of about 2s and it worked fine. I had to fill in some areas that you left green.
There are a couple of problems with the image too:
    1) The green background actually contains some red. If you zero that out, you minimize the effect on other colors in your overlay and movie.
    2) Not everything that I presume you wanted to be "visible" was actually filled in. The face was the background (except for the eyes and mouth... but maybe you wanted that... I filled it in so I could better see the face).
    3) Some of the colors you chose for your character ended up with green in the level of your greenscreen. For example, the stripes had green in the range of your greenscreen. That's why you want to limit the green in the background to the 249-255 range. Then you have the other green levels to use for coloring. Actually, you might even be able to get away with using 254-255. That way you have almost the entire green spectrum to use. You might even be able to use green of 1-2. I don't know how that will work, but it might work even better, but I've only tried "ultragreen" for the background.
The way I created a "green screen" for stationary things was to export the presentation as a .mov file. Basically, File -> Export ... under there you have the option to do a "Fixed Timing" export. I usually make sure all transitions happen automatically (not on click). You can check that in the inspector. Then you set the slide time and build time to get the timing you need for your greenscreening. There are some other places on the net that explain in more detail how to use keynote to create effects for iMovie. I use it a lot for titling. But it can be used to send your character into space as you tried to do... I didn't have a clean copy of your movie so I couldn't greenscreen it for you. I tried it on some video I took over christmas. Kind of weird result (the combination... the greenscreening worked fine).

  • Ability to both use Green Screen and then resize the clip?

Imovie 10   -  the Green Screen works great.  Place one clip above the other and presto.  But then if you want to shrink it and put it say on the bottom corner, there in no way.  It looks like you can either use the Green Screen or the PIP but not both.
This is a problem as say clip on is of a field of buffalos.  Clip 2 is you in front of a green screen.  There is no way to alter the size of clip 2 to fit it into the herd.  Clip 2 has the subject way too big.  You would have to shoot it from an equil distance from the herd for the two clips to match up.  If, after you Green Screen your clip you could then PIP in and adjust the size of the video it would be perfect.
Any suggestions or am I missing something?
And no, I am not bothering herds of buffalos, ....not since the accident anyway.

Thank you for your reply.  I saw this solution on another thread and tried the following.  Will go into what I found.
The green screen function will only work if the movie is on top of something else.  Therefore, when you save it it is saving the file with the background behind it.  I tried several.
Then if you import it into your main project, it contains that background and using PIP will certainly shrink it, but again, you can't green screen it....back to step one.
This solution you reference would work if the file contained the subject against a transparent background, but it doesn't, it contains whatever you had to use under it to get the green screen to work.
Sorry if I am missing something.  Two days into this and can't believe it can't be done.

  • I am creating a video using the green screen option- I imported a picture for the background of the project and videotaped someone using a green screen. Is it possible to move the video of the person around so it is not blocking the picture behind it?

To enable this right you need Acrobat, not the free Reader.
However, starting from Reader X it is possible to add simple markups to any file, unless it has been specifically disallowed by the creator of the file.

  • Can I make a DIY green screen or does it need to be an exact colour cloth?

I would like to try using the green screen effect in iMovie but as I do not own a specially made green screen background I wondered whether I can make one if I buy a large piece of green material from a dressmakers shop. Can i do this or does the shade of green need to be exact? Would it be better to just buy a proper green screen from a video equipment supplier and if so, what specification should it be?

The only thing to remember though is to have a lot of good even lighting facing the wall. If you use fabric it should also be pulled tight. Shadows from folds in cloth make darker spots of color on the screen and the software will not key (chromakey) out the darker spots. One thing that I have used in the past is a bright green table cloth. I got one from Party City (6'x9') for $3.50 two of those and you're good to go! I got a bright green snuggie for christmas that matches the color of my screen! Now I can do floating head effects. Have fun!

  • Itunes shows only green screen

I keep getting a green screen for my imovies?

I'd first try the "Disable Direct3D acceleration in QuickTime" section from the following document:

(After making the settings change, restart iTunes prior to checking to see if the change has had any effect.)

  • What has happened to the green screen feature in version 9.4? Where did it go?

I have a shiny new desktop Imac and tried to access the green screen feature in Imovie that works fine on ver 9.2 that I have installed on my laptop, only to find the option no longer exists. Did they remove it??

It's part of the 'Advanced Tools' in iMovie. I think Advanced tools is turned off in a new iMovie install. To turn it on:
Go to the iMovie Menu > Preferences > Show Advanced Tools (make sure the box is checked)
When the advanced tools are turned on, you will see Green Screen appear as an option in the pop-up menu as you drag one video clip from your Events Library on top of any clip in your Project timeline.

  • Using Green Screen tool after project roughcut complete

    Hi peeps,
I know how to use the Green Screen tool in iMovie but my problem is I want to apply it to a project which I have already edited. So the usual process is drag your background into project then drag your clip from events on top... but I have already painfully edited my project and want to apply a background to it minus the green screens, can it be done at this stage?
    cheers,
    BB.

Also, try looking up the term "garbage matte." It's relatively simple concept that can be executed using many different tools and levels of sophistication.
Here's my workflow for standard greenscreen work, stuff that isn't too action-oriented, similar to conventional weather presentations:
    1. Capture the footage in Final Cut Pro.
    2. Seldct the takes.
    3. IMport the best takes into After Effects.
    4. Apply masking to the video to remove as much unnecessary stuff as possible using as few vertices in the mask as possible.
    5. Apply Keylight.
    6. Export to ProRes4444.
    7. Import back into FCP.
Additional work might be required for wire or rig removal, rotoscoping for movement in front of or behind foreground objects, masking replacement layers to manage stupid costume errors like a green tie, light wrap, spill removal, reflection cancelation, shadow manipulation.
