Green screen in iMovie 9

This is related to my question about flying saucers.
Has anyone used the green screen effect? My techie told me that I have to go to Lowe's Home Center and buy a certain shade of green paint (called "Green Screen Green") if I'm going to utilize this effect properly.
Anyone want to weigh in on this? Thanks for any and all advice.

That sounds like a line from an infomercial
From what I understand consistency of the shade of green is more important than the shade of green itself. In other words a green background that is smooth, not rippled fabric that casts shadows. In other video editing and television environments blue screen is used for the same purpose as green screen. So, not only a shade difference, more, a color difference.

  • How can I use the green screen with iMovie?

Hey guys! I was wondering how does the green screen effect work with iMovie 11? I need to use green screen in iMovie in school for a project and I am trying to troubleshoot the problem.
    Help is appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Ben

Record a video against a green screen and import it to imovie.
Then place the green screen footage ON TOP of the background you want and a list should come up. Select green screen. Also, before you do any of that make sure that your advanced tools are selected under preferences in imovie.

  • Green Screen on iMovie

i am wondering if there is a green screen or blue screen effect on iMovie HD 6 or on Final Cut Express HD

Honestly, step by step instructions are not easy to give.
In the link I provided, I know there is at least one tutorial for green screen in FinalCut Pro. The steps would be roughly the same for Express. But it's complicated.
A simpler approach would be to save up and buy an iMovie plugin.
Have you already shot your green screen footage?

  • Can I use green screen on iMovie for iPod touch, Can I use green screen on iMovie for iPod touch

I just downloaded the iMovie app on my iPod 4th gen. And I was wondering how to use the green screen effect if I could. Does anyone have any idea how to do it?

  • Does iMovie for iPad 2 have green screen?

Does iPad 2 have green screen for iMovie?

By green screen I assume you're refering to chroma keying?
    If so, then no.

  • Can't figure out why green screen is pixelating!

I had terrible problems with square pixelating on my production.
any ideas on what caused this... we played with saturations all day with no effect. I did have a empty green "last frame". It seemed nothing we could do would help!
I filmed with a Sony DCR-SR68 HandyCam in the highest quality and the background I chose from a Free Use source for greenscreen back grounds online.
I hope you can give me some insight here...every tutorial i have watched made green screen in iMovie look very simple... and yet we could not figure out why this pixelation was occurring!
    reasons i wondered about:
    green screen is too light?
...however i have seen screens look a lot worse and work
something to do with how i am filming?
...i realized that "facial recognition" was turned on which caused the camera shot
to move a little as i moved
am i too close to screen?
...i was about a foot away from screen (but no shadows) and camera was about a yard in front of
    me
if anyone wants same rendering or screen shots let me know and I can email some!
Let me know what you think and if you need anymore info!
Thanks in advance for all your help!

I know you said you reformatted the drive but just in case, how much free space on the startup disk?
Right or control click the MacintoshHD icon. Click Get Info. In the Get Info window you will see Capacity and Available. Make sure you have a minimum of 15% free disk space.
    fresh install of 10.4.7
Most recent version for Tiger is v10.4.11. Have you tried updating the software from the Apple menu > Software Update?

  • Strange problem when editing green screen clips

    Hi all,
I work as a technician in a High School.
    Recently I was doing some green screen work with a class, we were using 10 macbooks to edit. Out of the 10, 6 had this same problem;
At some point after inserting the green screen clips and the background, the project part of the iMovie window stops displaying anything, iMovie acts like the clips are still there though (If I move the cursor over the now empty space, I still see a preview in the preview window). But nothing is visible and nothing can be moved or changed.
Closing iMovie and reopening doesn't work, restarting the macbook doesn't work. The problem seems to be saved to the project file, if I open a new project, the new project is fine, but if I re-open the broken one, it's still broken. The only thing we could do was completely restart and delete the project file.
I hope this makes sense, due to this problem half of the class couldn't finish their work. The same problem has also occurred to another student who was working with green screen in iMovie 09 on an iMac.

    Hi Ted,
I've seen this issue before. One thing to remember is that iMovie has a live rendering feature, so sometimes during playback, the viewer does not always display correctly.
I don't know if you tried taking the green screen clip out, then re-adding it.
Also, trying to simply delete the preference file can fix the problem. Home folder>library>pref>imovie.plist
delete that and see if the problem persists.
Doing this will not effect any projects students have made in iMovie.

  • Live Green Screen

Is there a way to do live green screen with imovie HD 6. If so how. I have a computer connected to a live tv feed, but I don't know how to put the two together. Thanks

iMovie doesn't support color-keying and it is not meant as a 'live' tool/'mixer', it is a post-production editing app for imports from camcorders..
    geethree.com offers a color-key plug-in, which allows blue/green-boxing..
do some research at sites as versiontracker.com, there's a wide range of socalled VJ software, .. not my domain, but those are meant for realtime-effects ..

  • Green screen video resizing/moving up/down/left /right on background shot

When using green screen in Imovie is it possible to re position your green screen footage on the background ie:- up/down/left/right and also resize ?
many thanks for any help on this.

I haven't found any, though one can use crop or ken burns effects. I am sure there is a trick, like exporting the green screen video into keynote or something, but I haven't found a way in iMovie.

  • IMovie 11 green screen - audio of the video in foreground won't play

Elementary teacher. Groups of students are creating movies and adding green screen effects to videos. In more than one group, the audio begins fine, but as the group edits (over the course of a day or two), eventually the audio in the foreground video stops playing. I see the audio waves, but do not hear the audio. When skimming the clip in the event library, the audio is fine. When the clip is reinserted, the audio plays. Nothing is ducked, muted or turned down.
Why are we losing the audio?

Thanks for the suggestion Brad, that makes sense... However, I was hoping there was a "straight" iMovie solution.
I'd prefer to not have to 1) spend any money and 2) use a program to do something iMovie is already supposed to do.

  • IMovie 10.0.8 Event Footage Not Sync'd After Green Screen Conversion

I am using iMovie on a 2013 Late Macbook Pro 13" Retina 2.4 GHz iCore i5, 8GB RAM., Intel Iris 1536 MB.  I record on Canon 1080p 30 fps MXP.  The event footage plays fine with green screen (GS) background.    But when I create a Movie and first add background then event footage and convert to GS to replace GS with picked background, the video eventually gets out of sync with the video.
    Thx

    Hi
YOU need to - in iMovie - Turn on Advanced Tools !
top row menu - with an Apple top left ---> iMovie ---> down to preferences ---> Here select to turn on Advanced tools .
Now it will work when You drop a clip onto another IN a MOVIE PROJECT ! (can not be done in Event's)
Next problem I had - was to get right clip onto the other - what was the Background and What was the Green screen - BUT just test - You only got two ways to try out.
