Green Screen Question

Hello: New to motion & had a question about a green screen effect. I shoot my subject in front of a green screen and move the camera. At some point, the camera shoots an unwanted edge of the green screen, revealing a wall in the background. As long as my subject has not crossed into view of that edge and wall, am I able to somehow Mask out that unwanted area and replace it with a matching green before I lay the video over a background?
Thanks in advance.

if you are dealing with the green screen filter in Motion, then do it all in Motion.
You wont need to replace the wall or edge with green. If you mask this off with a regular mask ( which by the way is about forty million times easier to create and adjust in Motion than in FCP - that's a rough guess but its about that much)
the background will show beneath it.
hope this helps

  • White screen or green screen question

    hi
i have a series of interviews coming up...will shoot 1080.  I like the nice clean look of white for the background. Question is whether to shoot with white backdrop or green screen and key white in post.  Here is my issue: I want to use part of the space (framing screen right) for bullet points, graphics, etc. but i also would like to achieve this look at 2:40 into the video ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yRK5QVEE8Ng) Clearly, a green screen was used here. I am  wondering if I shot against white could i just use the luma and key out my white background, create my effect with white and moving video then key it back in? Thanks.

Here's my 2 centimes, FWIW.  luma and chroma keys both have plusses and minuses.  Green screen will potentially give you the cleanest key if you follow a few "rules" while shooting.  It's a huge challenge to do good green screen:  large enough set so that you can light the screen absolutely differently than the talent.  You're really lighting two sets-- the talent and the screen.  you ought to be able to turn one off without affecting the other.  You'll need enough distance to avoid bounceback onto the talent. or a magenta backlight to minimize the bounce.  Fly-away hair is another issue-- paste it down.  That said, a well shot greenscreen is a joy in post.
A luma key is quick and easy-- IF the subject cooperates and doesn't have any highlights that might get blown off.  It's not good for people to have holes in their foreheads, etc.
I'd go green with a good shooter and proper lighting.

  • Final cut green screen question-help

    Hi
Does anybody help me on this. I have a hard time to change chromokey changes in final cut. I can;t get rid of green line ridge on the person. How can i do that? Background is not changing to black it is changing to more like gray. is it like that? Also What site is good green screen final cut video or any tutorials?
    Thanks in advance,
    madama

outside figure edge is turning green line
that's called spill ... try adding the Spill Suppressor filter to counter it
    gray with square shape background
do you mean a checkerboard background? that is just showing you the transparency ie the area that will be keyed out

  • Green Screen Camera Settings and other questions...

Hoping you guys can help me out :-)
I have a Sony AX2000 HD camera and am a wanna-be pro.  I've been trying to perfect my green screen operation.  I think I have the lighting down and can play around with PE8 green screen or chroma key effect to my satisfaction.  My problem is that I am very dissatisfied with the video quality.  I'm shooting at full HD 1920x1080 resolution, and although the AVCHD video that my camera creates is awesome, when I create my final product, the video is awful.
This project is for online viewing mostly, although I need to provide DVD's too.  I do not need HD, but assumed shooting in HD and reducing it down MUST be better than shooting in standard DV mode.  I guess I assumed wrong?  (Just been reading this - http://forums.adobe.com/thread/593946?tstart=0)
I'm also wondering about my camera settings.  I had everything on auto, but I read somewhere using the manual focus, and turning down the gain helps - especially with the first problem I had which was noise.  Actually, I improved this some with lighting, but blacks in particular seemed "noiser" than I found acceptable...
The other problem I have is fast movement.  If my subject is throwing their arms around at any decent pace, even creating a high definition MPEG give me some terrible motion blur...  then I realized even just creating a HD MPEG of the original video without the chromakey effect gives me sub standard quality, compared to the original AVCHD file.  After searching this forum, I think I might have found the problem.  I need to check my project settings to make sure they match the source files...  I'll post again once I've tried this and let you guys know if it works...
    Any other tips/thoughts out there?

OK - I discovered today that I was in fact using the wrong presets in Premier Elements.  Rectifying that little detail gave me MUCH improved ouput - both for the MPEGS and even the standard DVD (although it still has the "home made" look to it rather than the TV clarity I would expect, it's a million times better than what I had).
Now I understand the basics of presets, I also discovered I wasn't using the best my camera had to offer either.  I had it set to HD 1080 60i HQ – I found out the HQ translates to approx 9mbps (when this can be increased to 24mbps by using the FX option) -  also the HQ was also giving me 1440x1080 resolution (when the FX could take me up to 1920x1080).  So, I'm hoping for even better results tomorrow.
    So, here are todays questions:
1.) The 60i part of the preset.  Presumably the higher the frame rate the better, but how about the progressive v. interlacing - ie. is one better than the other for chroma key?  Or does the fact that I'm going to be using this for web viewing (F4V format) and DVD's affect this decision?
2.) I took Steve's advice and downloaded Premier Pro.  Immediately I came up against a problem.  It seems like I don't have a suitable preset to choose.  Further, when I tried to import my files directly from the camera's memory stick, it said they weren't supported.  Adobe say the trial version is without limits, so any idea what the problem is here?

  • Green screen composite question

    Hello all,
I need to be able to put my own video on the "green screen" that this couple is watching on TV:
    http://www.istockphoto.com/file_closeup.php?id=11473468
I'm a complete novice at this but I'm assuming the TV, my video, and the people watching have to be on separate layers?
(so that my video does not appear "in front' of the people's heads)
Can I do this with Final Cut Express or is there some other software app I can use?
    Thanks in advance!
    Mike

You video should be scaled and place on the bottom (V1).
The stockfootage clip should be above it on V2,
with the chromakey filter applied to it.
When your adjusting the key, check at the very beginning
of the clip when the woman's shadow is on the green screen.
Make sure you the green color selection includes those darker shades of green.
If you shoot the video to use in the TV by playing the footage through
a real monitor, it will probably look a bit more realistic,
since you can play with a little reflection off the glass,
and you could even block the reflection when the woman walks by.
    Details make composites work.

  • Green Screen on Desktop

Trying to watch movies and videos and I get a green screen.
    This question was solved.

    Hi,
If this is just when streaming online video/movies, try a clean installation of the flash plugin/activeX as follows.
First, download the Flash uninstall utility on the link below and save it to your Downloads folder.
    Flash Player Uninstaller.
When the download has completed, close all browser windows, open your Download folder and run the uninstaller.  After this has completed, restart the PC.
When windows has reloaded, download and install the latest version of Adobe Flash.  Note: You may want to deselect the option to include McAfee Security Scan Plus before downloading.
When the installation has completed, restart the PC.
If the above doesn't correct the issue, then try the following.
First of all, download and run the Shockwave uninstaller on the link below.
    http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/get/shockwave/uninstall/win/sw_uninstaller.exe
After this has completed, restart the PC.
When windows has fully reloaded, download and install the latest version of Shockwave on the following link.
    http://get.adobe.com/shockwave/
Again, after this installation, restart the PC.

  • How can I change a green screen background?

Today I downloaded a trial version of PSE. This means of course that I'm new to the game. I can follow a step-by-step guide though. Here's what I'd like to do: I've taken a dozen photos of an actor with a green screen as a background. Is there a way that I can chroma-key out the green and put in another color, like gray or perhaps a textured off-white?
I wish I had a more challenging question. Maybe later on when I have a chance to play with the program I'll think up something difficult.

    Please see http://www.essential-photoshop-elements.com/change-background-color.html
    Thanks

    Hi Diane,
If you're using Internet Explorer, try the following.
    Open an Internet Explorer window.
Hold down the alt key and press x, then select Internet Options.
Select the Advanced tab, enter a tick in the box next to 'Use software rendering instead of GPU rendering', then click Apply and Ok to save this change.
Close all open Internet Explorer windows, then open it again and try playing a video.

  • Marking green screen video to know where to place background images

My students want to create short green screen movies using a number of background photos that will change as they talk about their topic. How can they mark their green screen video so they will know where to place each photo?  We are using iMovie 11.  Thanks

If that's the case.  You don't need green screen at all.
You can shoot the students framed in such a way as to allow room for the photos and then use Picture in Picture.
Here's a how-to from the MacMost site.  It's for iMovie '09 but is essentially the same for iMovie '11.

  • What does a green screen with graph mean?

    Hello,
Just had a strange inciden happen to my computer. I was away from it for a about half an hour, left my scrivener writing program open. Returned to it, the screen saver was going, when I hit the up arrow button to get out of my screen saver, suddenly got a green screen which had a graph pattern on it.
Locked up. Held the power button in back for a few seconds, nothing was happening. Tried again, finally restarted the computer and now things look ok. Except very strange behavior when I went to reopen my scriverner program, up in menu bar there is no longer a menu bar for the scrivener program--instead it shows macs File menu bar. Very strange.
Have I been attacked with a virus?
    Help most appreciated.
P.S. Read some articles online that today July 9th, people with malware on their mac machines will be shut down. What the heck does this mean?

    Hi,
Well--I now understand what the blank green screen was all about regarding my first question.
No need to take photo. It's my screen saver!
Twice today when I return to my computer, and tab the keyboard to awaken it, (the screen saver which now shows a screen saver image rather then the blank green screen)  freezes. Try keyboard commands but nothing brings it out of freeze. Have to resort to tabbing the power button to restart computer.
Could it be I need a new graphic card or something else?
Also, last night had a repeated issue while browsing Safari--spinning wheel--have to restart computer. Curious what causes this sometimes when in Safari. Never happens in Firefox.
    Help always appreciative.

  • Moving a subject from left to right if shot in front of green screen

    Here's my question:
If I shoot an interview with someone who sits right in front of a green screen in the middle, is there any way I can move that person, and that person only, to the left or right of the frame after it's shot? I have seen it in VH1 and it looks great. Do I have to roroscope? Would I have to shoot the interview 3 times in front of the green screen, One on the left side, One on the right side, and one in the middle?
    Any help would be appreciated
    Thanks in advance

Well, assuming that you are keying out the entire background, you're left with the subject pretty much just floating in space. So its pretty simple to just move your subject layer to either side of the frame, independent of whatever background layer you plan to put behind him/her.
Of course, as you move this person, their eyeline may appear as if they're looking at different subjects.
If you have no keyed out the entire background, I'm afraid you are left to play with masks.
