Green symbol with 5 white dots

what is that symbol next to someones username where it is mostly green, but has 5 white dots inside that form almost a pentagon-like figure?
i blocked this person supposedly but they still show up on my "older than a week" messages. but isntead of having a red "blocked" symbol, they have a green symbol (almost like they are online) but it has 5 white dots inside of it.
what does this symbol even mean?

What happens if you close the lid? Sleep?
In your place I would use sleep state to reset PRAM, as it can resolve your graphical mess.
Your keyboard likely was not powered after SMC/PRAM failure, so you will need to open MBP cover without opening the lid and disconnect battery power cable with insulated tools from logic board, wait for 5-10 minutes, then try to reset PRAM while keeping cover

Boot to safe mode using the shift key. But it probably will not work. You need to boot into recovery mode.

What that symbol indicates is that your iPad has gone into recovery mode and now it needs to be restored in order for you to be able to use it again. You can reboot from now until the cows come home and it will not do any good.
You do indeed need to plug your iPad into your computer and use iTunes to restore the device.

how do I reboot? take the battery out? No response from 10 sec of either external button...it is charged...

You can reset the iPhone by holding the Home and sleep button until you see the Apple logo appear.

Have you recently deleted photos using the finder or run clean up software? Is so restore your backup
If not the backup your iPhoto Library and launch iPhoto while depressing the option and command keys. Rebuild your database

Sounds like it. Try booting from your OSX restore DVDs - startup and hold down "C". This will take AGES! Then run Disk Utility from the menu.
The flashing ? means your system is corrupt, dead, not there, on a dying HD, etc...

When I search for solutions, I find several references to the backup feature of Norton 360. There also were references to MozyHome and McAfee.

I do hope you have recent backup, because it look like your hard disk is failing. You can start up in Recovery Mode, and run Disk Utility to see if the disk can be fixed: OS X: About OS X Recovery - Apple Support

When I uploaded a cd of mine to the cloud with iTunes Match, I seem to have uploaded only a majority of the songs and not ALL of the songs. When I go to my iTunes library, I find that there's a cloud symbol with dotted lines. Why is that? Also, what should I do to make sure that all of the songs are uploaded into the cloud?

My Brand New ipod nano (sold to me two days ago by Apple as replacement for previous ipod nano -15 months old and therefore out of warranty - which had suddenly stopped functioning altogether) will operate only when attached by cable to either power adapter, usb port on my laptop or when playing on a docking station. Sounds like the Nano has a faulty battery. You should be able to have Apple swap it out again for you at no cost.

I had the exact same issue!! Seriously p*ssed me off when I checked out my ITunes purchased items (via my computer) and noticed that most of the additional tracks listed on my IPhone playlist was listed there too. However, I never authorized any purchases!! (I have actually written Apple Support asking for a full refund of all tracks listed on my purchased list)
Be careful when you swipe your finger to the left/right on those "additional" tracks on your IPhone playlist... I'm pretty sure that the cloud symbol is an option to download or automatically buy those tracks.
Solution for the problem:
1 - go to your IPhone settings
2 - choose "iTunes & App Store"
3 - go to "Show All" & "Music"
4 - turn off "Music" by moving the bar to the left (it should be a white color once you turn it off)

Problem filling a stroke with white

I'm no Illustrator expert so forgive me in advance if I use the wrong terminology.
I want to produce a white image of a stag without a background. I traced the image and have it rendered with a path using the stroke tool. You can see the stroke selected below.
My goal is to remove the green circle in the background and save the white stag only. Right now the stroke is not filled -- the white color is the transparent background. This is what the image looks like in Illustrator without the background and no color applied to the stroke.
Of course if I deselect the stroke, the object disappears, and when I save it, there's nothing visible. My goal is to print a white stag on a green T-shirt. Do I need to convert the stroke object to something else, then apply a fill? I don't know how to proceed.
Can you please advise me how to get from where I am to where I need to be?

Just fill it with black. Then tell whomever is doing the printing to print it with white.
The printer needs an image that will print as a black-and-white solid, not a tint. Any color other than black (including shades of black) will print as a tint (array of dots) unless the color is defined as a spot color and the file is printed as color separations. So without knowing the kind of printing you intend to use, the simplest method of providing single-color artwork is simply to provide a black image and tell the printer the color you want to print.
A design like that might be put on a garment by silkscreening (most common), or by cutting the shape from heat applied vinyl, or even by embroidery. Either way, simply providing a black image will work.

23" ACD with light dot that won't turn off

In the upper left corner (about 1 cm down and right of the blue apple) there is a light dot. It looks like an LED light that is shining through the screen from behind. This isn't a stuck pixel. When I run PiXel Check, the dot shows on red, green, blue, and white displays but not the black display. Putting the display to sleep doesn't help. And even turning off the computer does no good.
Any clues to what the problem may be and possible solutions? Love the ACD otherwise. Thanks!

I'm relieved to see someone with the same problem as me, in my case I have a small light spot on the bottom right hand of the screen. It almost looks as though my power light has started wandering on my screen, but that isn't the case. To my suprise, the light also disappeared on a black background! Did you find any solution to this problem? I'm considering getting it replaced (I'm pretty sure it's still in the 1-year warranty), considering its my monitor for at work... It's not a distraction yet, but it might be better to tackle the problem on time?
