Grep command has lost the "-P" option

The grep command has lost the "-P" option. It now supports a non-standard "-p" option that doesn't work on previous versions of OS X or Linux. It also doesn't support the long form version of "--perl-regexp". Any portable solutions?
In addition, the command line usage still shows "-P" as an option, but the man page doesn't list it.

Since updating to 10.6.8 my VPN has lost the connection after 30 minutes. Any ideas on how to fix this?

I updated to 10.6.8 and now my VPN connection is unstable. It has lost the connection to the host after 30 minutes on three different occasions. Before updating, I was able to be connected for hours with no interruption.
The error reads: "A configuration error occurred. Verify your settings and try reconnecting."
Adding to the problem is that the problem only corrects itself after I restart my computer.
Is anyone else having this problem? Is there a fix I should be looking for?

I'm sorry I didn't post back earlier, I haven't been using my VPN lately. However, today, I did use it for hours and the problem persisted exactly as explained. I did some more searching and found the following solution on a similar thread. Worked like a charm:
the vpn daemon has to be restarted. after that it works perfectly.
1. Open Terminal
2. Unload the VPN daemon using the following command (for those who don't know, don't include the % sign when typing in Terminal):
% sudo launchctl unload /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.racoon.plist
Note: After you type the command in, Terminal will give you a warning and ask you if you want to continue. Enter your password and continue.
3. Reload the VPN daemon in Terminal (again, not typing the % sign) :
% sudo launchctl load /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.racoon.plist
That should do it! Thank you to everyone who tried to help me. Hopefully this helps others out there...
P.S. For those that are unfamiliar with terminal. When you type in the commands, that's not a hard return in there before the path /System/Library... etc. The line break is just because the path is too long to fit on that line.

If the menu bar is hidden then press the F10 key or hold down the Alt key, that should make the menu bar appear.
Make sure that toolbars like the "Navigation Toolbar" and the "Bookmarks Toolbar" are visible: "View > Toolbars"
* If items are missing then open the Customize window via "View > Toolbars > Customize" or via "Firefox > Options > Toolbar Layout" (Linux, Windows)
* If a missing item is in the toolbar palette then drag it back from the Customize window on the toolbar
* If you do not see an item on a toolbar and in the toolbar palette then click the "Restore Default Set" button to restore the default toolbar set up.

I can't see the columns A & B but if I cut and paste the table to a new sheet, the columns I am missing will travel to the new sheet. I have charts and other stuff related the the original table so I need to figure out why I can only see from column C forward. I tried to "UNHIDE" the columns but the function doesn't seem to recognise that there are columns missing. Has this happened to others and how did you fix it?

I've seen it happen before, or at least it sounds something like what I've seen before. The table somehow gets into the margins of the page and the app doesn't know how to deal with it. Go into Print View and try moving the table away from the left side ofthe page. You might have to change content size or resize the table to get it to correct (then put you can put them back the way you like).

Hi I also have this problem. Sound was only working on the headphones and also on the volume slider in the settings app. Everywhere else I get no sound and no volume slider. Now the headphones don't work either.

And NO it's not muted. I've reset all settings and restarted the iPad. Been searching forums for a couple days. Some say its a dirty docking port problem, others suggest a Skype or other app update that could be the problem.

Hi...my movie project has lost the audio track. I can see it but nothing plays.
The movie record has its audio but the imported iTunes track is silent.

This might sound weird, but here's an idea which worked for me re music that was newly added to itunes and showed up in my ipod but wouldn't play - I simply played the tracks in itunes first, just a second of time or so will do it, not the whole track, then connect the ipod and sync again and this time they played - hope this helps.

Snow Leopard breaks quite a few drivers - my Canon exhibited the same problem.
I eventually found updated drivers on the Canon website. You can try that with the HP, but if the all-in-one is more than a year or so old, don't hold your breath.
You can also try Software Update to see if it will offer new drivers, or failing that go to the Support Downloads site and search for HP updates.
In fact there's a new one for HP at the top of the list just now.
You may not necessarily want the latest one, though - check the specs to see if your model is covered; if not, search for the previous update etc.

By all means get iLife but just for the record you don't HAVE to use Apple's photo application;
there are many more around, quite a lot of them free.

Command to remove the preempt option

Is there a single command to remove the preempt option in the configuration, or other way to remove it without service interruption?
ip virtual-router 1 priority 110 preempt
I don't want to use the 'no' form to remove the whole command and add it back, which should cause service interruption.

When I checked the command with below basic config,
'ip virtual-router' configuration is overwritten.
I don't know the impact of production traffic since I don't send any traffic.
So, I suggest to configure it after office hours.

I'm not aware of any setting for it. You could try closing the Notes app completely and then see if they are there when you re-open it : from the home screen (i.e.not with the Notes app 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the Notes app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
If that doesn't work then you could try a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.
