GREP remove white space at start and end of paragraph

Hi,
Question for the GREP experts: I'd like to construct a GREP expression
that will remove all white space at the start AND end of a paragraph in
one go.
What I've got so far works, but you have to run it twice to work:
I'll try and post it at the bottom of this message, but since I'm
posting via email it probably will come out scrambled, so I'll describe
what I've got so far:
Two expressions in parenthesis separated by the OR character (pipe). The
first expression searches for one or more space, tab or white-space at
the beginning of a paragraph.
The second expression searches for the same at the end of the paragraph.
Each expression is in parenthesis, and the two groups are separated, as
I say, by an OR sign.
However, this has to be run twice for it to work. For it removes all the
spaces at the start of paragraphs, then when run again all the spaces at
the end.
Any ideas how to get it to work in one go?
Thanks,
Ariel
The expression is:
(^[ \ts]+)|([ \ts)+$)

Arïel, your GREP appears a bit mashed up in the forum -- was it something like this?
(^[\t\s]+)|([\t\s]+$)
If so:
1. "\s" is "any whitespace", so you would not need to include "\t" as well. But I would not recommend this, as a HUGE disadvantage of "\s" is it also includes hard and soft returns: double returns are seen as "any whitespace" (the first return) and then "end of line" (the second return), and the first is removed. ("Disadvantage" is subject to what you want to accomplish, by the way. I usually don't want this so I list each possible whitespace character that may be removed.)
2. The parentheses around each 'section' of this GREP are not necessary. The OR operator is 'highest level' -- in this case, since you have an entire left part OR an entire right part, you can omit all parentheses.
3. This works for me ...
^[\t ]+|[\t ]+$
... and despite Peter's not-too-shabby suggestion, I would still recommend using mine instead. It's easier on ID (since it only has to remove text, not "remove-and-then-insert-again" (which is exactly what using the $.. operators do), and, more importantly, there are limits to what $1 can 'pick up'. I can't recall the special circumstances, but I have had text attributes shift, and footnotes and anchored objects disappear/being mucked up/otherwise mangled.

  • Timeline removing start and end of clips

Apologies if this has been posted before - got through 20 of the 116 pages to look for it!
iMovie 6.0.1 appears to have a bug when dragging clips from clip pane into timeline. Start and end of clip are cut off. Same occurs when adding transition in timeline. This does not happen when working in clip viewer rather than timeline, though there is still a small loss when adding transitions (this probably accounts for a previous posting complaining about loss of audio synch when adding transitions).

  • How can I make a brush that starts and ends in a thin line?

I am looking to make a brush that I can use for cartooning in CS6 that starts out thin, gets thicker with pressure (I have a cintiq), and ends in a thin line. Does anyone have the expertise to make one?
    Thank you.

I watched the first half of the tutorial from your link and some parts of the rest. It is a good tutorial. He is using an art brush which profile was created from an elliptical shape with sharp corners which gives that ink kind of appearance which is good for this kind of style. Most of the time though I prefer the appearance of the rounded ends of the calligraphic brushes. Also one advantage of the calligraphic brushes is that it can change its size or the size of the selected strokes with the [ and ] keys on the keyboard while with the art brushes this is done by changing the stroke weight which also can change the weight of calligraphic brushes in addition to the [ and ] keys.
Like in the tutorial I often use a similar workflow ending up with the brush strokes converted to filled paths but I simply use expand appearance then remove the unwanted parts with the Eraser brush which can be made pressure sensitive in the options that you get when double clicking the Eraser tool. This is less precise than the technique the guy is using in the video tutorial but it is quick, I like  the hand touch appearance of the imperfections, and it also allows me to paint the white (transparent) highlights like for example the highlights on the booths of my cowboy. The Blob brush is the tool above the Eraser in the Tool panel and works basically the same like the Eraser but it adds to the fill of a path and it also has these and more options when you double click it. I use it most of the time in a combination with the Eraser to add or remove final details of illustrations started initially with brush strokes and then expanded. And like in the video tutorial I also like to keep a copy with the stage before expanding the brush strokes in case I need some changes on brush stroke level.
I also use a different technique for adding new color fills on the illustrations instead of cutting paths with the knife. I don't like the knife because I often do not like the first cut which I may realize later when undo is not the best workflow. What I do is copy paste in front the path and use the pencil tool set to edit the selected paths and change the shape of the selected path similar to using the knife but the pencil has to start and end on the path. The advantage of this for me is that the new fill with the different color is overlapping the original fill behind and when later I decide to change its shape I don't get gaps between the two colors which is what will happen if the knife was used.

  • XML document structures must start and end within the same entity

    Hi there,
I'm working with a client/server application and using SaxParser for reading in xml. I get the SaxParserException: XML document structures must start and end within the same entity. I understand what that means, but it isn't applicable! The xml data being used is well-formed. I checked the well-formedness with Stylus Studio to make sure. Here's the data:

I'm using Eclypse as my IDE. I'm wondering if there's something wrong with it? Or maybe there's something wrong with the class I'm using for reading in the XML? Followng is the class.

Just out of curiosity what happens if you append a space to the end of the XML document?

  • Converting to ProRes changes Media Start and End

I have a series of clips that were incorrectly all captured Uncompressed.
Primarily to save on space, I need to convert them to ProRes.
Using Compressor, I drop the clips in and use one of the preset settings for High Quality Progressive ProRes and convert. The conversion works great.
However, after I replace the clips with the new slimmer versions, when I start FCP up and reconnect them, it tells me that the Media Start and End changed. Indeed, when I look at the Uncompressed and ProRes version in FCP, they do not have the same Media Start and End values.
Can anyone help me understand what is going on here? How is the conversion changing these values?
Or better yet, provide me with a better workflow for converting all these clips to ProRes so FCP does not have a fit?
    Thanks,
    Dean

To keep the same timecode, you have to use the Media Manager and RECOMPRESS.

  • Media Start and End times have changed.

    Hello,
I have an old project from which I off-lined all footage to save disk space. I only saved the Project files. Now when I open the project to do some changes I naturally have to recapture the original footage. The problem is that some clips have weird media start and end times that don't match the time code on the tapes. Therefor I cannot batch capture them, and the referenced cuts on the timeline reflect these weird time codes as well. Can anyone tell me why this has happened and how I might work around it so I don't loose my edits. Please and thanks!

anybody have a solution to this yet?
I opened up an FCP4.5 project into 5.1.4, batch captured some clips, and it changed the Media Start times to 00:00:00;00, and the Media End times then matched the Duration times.
Anybody know how to prevent this? How about how to repair it?
In case this matters, or is relevant, when I do a Batch Capture of a clip, it is playing it TWICE in the capture process. No dropped frames along the way, it just plays through it in normal stuttery capture mode, rewinds, plays through again, leaving successful Capture (though with aforementioned Media times problem AND with occasional audio/video out of sync).

Install or Reinstall Yosemite, Mavericks, Mountain Lion, or Lion from Scratch
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
How to Clean Install OS X Yosemite
OS X Mavericks- Erase and reinstall OS X
OS X Mountain Lion- Erase and reinstall OS X
OS X Lion- Erase and reinstall Mac OS X
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible
because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • Require function module for start and end bucket of planning book

    Hello All,
I need to fetch the start and end bucket date of a planning book. Is there any function module which can directly give first and last bucket date of a planning book ?
    Thanks & Regards,
    Vivek

    Hello dear Sanjeev / Datta,
    Thanks for your prompt response.
The problem resolved. The solution is as follows.
    Step1) CALL FUNCTION '/SAPAPO/MSDP_PB_READ_DVIEW'
Input : Plng book and dataview
                output: cs_pbdvwhdr       = ls_header (in changing parameter)
    Step2) CALL FUNCTION '/SAPAPO/SDP_TB_CREATE_COLS'
Input: bucket Profile of past and future, which we will get from step1.
And from date as space in a variable of type datum (As the parameter is mandatory)
Output: et_cols_ext (Importing table) which will give start and end date.
Hope, This solution will help others also.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Vivek

  • Easy way to delete large chunks of audio by entering start and end time?

I am removing segments from within an audio file. Right now I select the part I want to cut out using the mouse. Is there a way to delete exact portions by entering start and end times? For example, delete the audio from 5:03 to 7:16.
    Is this possible?
    Thanks!

At the bottom of the track window at the left hand side ( bit above the loops window etc ) is a little slider. Look carefully, it is in line with the left control portion of the tracks at the bottom. Slide far left and see the whole of the song, slide right zooms in ........

  • Custom text component with different start and end points for each line

I'm trying to create a custom component extending textArea in which each individual line in the textArea would have different start and end points.  For example, the start/end points for line 1 might be 20 pixels in the front and 35 pixels at the end but start/end points for line 2 might be 25 pixels in front and 20 pixels at the end, etc.  These boundary values would be passed in.  The width of the entire textArea component would be a fixed size.  The result would be something like this:
         Jack and Jill
              ran up the hill
to fetch a pail of water
depending on the boundary values of each individual line of course.  The custom component would take a string and render it in the text component with the appropriate individual line start and end points.  I'm trying to do this by adding the text component to the display with the passed in string and then adding in spaces in the beginning of each line and adding a "/n" at the end of the line wherever appropriate based on the start and end values for that line.
Just wondering if I'm on the right track and if anyone has any advice on this.

    > Applying the marker places the same icon on all lines of the graph and I need a different one for each
What do you have selected when you assign the marker? It
shouldn't apply to all the markers on the whole graph unless you have all the existing markers selected when you apply the new one.
Assigning marker designs is exactly analogous to assigning bar graph designs.
If you have a single marker selected when you assign the new design, it will apply to only that graph data point.
If you use the group select tool (or option-click with the direct select tool) to reclick on an already-selected marker until all the markers for the same line are selected, and then assign a design, the new design will apply only to the selected line. (You can extend the graph by adding more rows, and the new data points will inherit the marker for the line they are on.)
The thread linked to below demonstrates in more detail how the marker designs are scaled:

  • Editing Loop Start and End times via automation / MIDI controllers?

I'm trying to play a sample in EXS24 and have the Sample Start, Loop Start and End times manipulated over the course of the song. I've tried to open up the EXS sample editor, click on the numerical value of the Loop Start, and then attempt to Learn Automation. All it does is assign the knob for the instrument Volume Level. Is there any way to do this? It's basically how an Akai S612 works: http://www.vintagesynth.com/akai/s612.shtml
I switched gears and tried it also with Battery, and there's a way to map the Start and End times in there, but it's not seeming to work as I've intended. I can't seem to make the loops move as they should and there's ways to use up to 4 loops, but not a way to target each loop's start and end points via separate controllers.
I could use my S-612 [and probably will], but in moments where I don't have one available, I'd love to find a solution to this.
    Thanks,
    +odd

Anyone with any thoughts? would be great to solve this.

  • Problem with keyframe effect - at start and end (crop and scale)

I'm having this odd problem with keyframe effects.
    Setup:
I have a gif image that I have on video 1 for say 2 minutes.
I have my real video on video 2.  It is a person talking.
First I start with my video full size on top of video 1.
Though the motion and cropping keyframe management I slowly reduce the scale and crop my video image so that it is reduced to the lower left bottom of the screen, on top of the gif, which is now revealed.
My problem is at the start and end of the transition from full video to small box on lower left on top of my gif I often get 1-2 frames where the video goes blank and/or I get a bunch of random red bars on black background appearing on the video - Or I get the gif from video 1 without the video 2 at all (it disappears).
I've tried moving my start of end of the transition to skip the bad spots - but these new transition starts or ends not get their own bad spots in the same way.  Its only a couple of frames but it's really unacceptable for the finished video.
Note, when I say transition here I don't mean real transition events, but rather the start of effects that are managed with keyframes.  My move from start to end of the effect runs for about 4-6 seconds.
    Any ideas?

    Bill,
Here is more detail and screen captures.
    Concept:
I have 3 minutes of video.  It contains a person making a speech.  During parts of the speech I want to reveal a graphic image that will be discussed.  The speech will begin with the speaker full screen.  Half way in, the speaker will shrink down to 45% in the lower left corner of the screen.  While the animation occurs (the shrink, move and cropping) it will reveal the graphic below.  The graphic will take up the full screen with the speaker at 45%.
    Technique:
I put the video in Video 2 and the graphic, a GIF image in Video 1.  The scene begins with the speaker talking at full screen.  After a minute, I animate the move of the speaker using Motion: Scale and Position and Effect: Crop changing Top, Bottom, Left and Right sides.  The animation occurs over approximately 8 seconds.
I am manually adding keyframes at the start and end of the animation.  I set the ending state of the video image in the end keyframes.  The interpolation between these start and end keyframes should be managing the animation.
    Problem:
At the beginning and end of the animation – usually 1-3 frames from the start and 1-3 frames from the end, where the change has barely begun or almost ended, I get these problems.  On some frames, the video (in Video 2) completely disappears only showing the Video 1 GIF image below.  On other frames, the video image turns black with horizontal red bands half way across.
    Troublshooting:
I’ve tried deleting all start and end keyframes and moving the start and end earlier or later to see if I can fix this, but the problem continues to show up in these new locations.
I have added a few screen shots.
1:32:15 is the start of the animation change and 1:40:22 is the end of increasing from the mini video speaker to full size (on top of the GIF).
At 1:40:16 the video image completely disappears only showing the GIF below.
At 1:40:17 its back and slowly increases in size through the interpolation until it is full size at 1:40:22.
Let me know if you need anything else.
    Thanks!
    Evan
