Grey box containing white arrow in password field

I've noticed a grew box that contains a white arrow in the far right side of every password field, for every website I enter. It is not in the username field and only appears once I merely click in the password field.
I don't remember seeing this before. Is this normal? I'm paranoid I've picked up some kind of keystroking device.
Thanks

Hi Joshua,
Did you try turning off Caps Lock? That's likely the culprit.

  • Box containing text and image (fit frame to contents).

    Hi all,
The best way I can describe what I am trying to achieve is to show you a picture.
So essentially, I'm looking to create a grey box, containing some text with an image floating to the right hand side. I want about 2mm space (padding) inside the grey box so no content goes right to the edge and I want the text to wrap around the image. The bit I'm finding tricky is when I go to use the 'Fit frame to content' option. I'm trying to remove the space indicated by the red arrows but if I anchor the image inside the text frame, the grey box shrinks to the height of the text and the image overflows.
This would be incredibly simple to achieve on the web, am I doing something wrong?
Any help/direction would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry, been out for an hour.
I understood that you want to have some variable height text frame (the gray box), and that this box should reduce in height to fit the text contained therein, but not  less than necessary for the bottom to be 2mm below the bottom edge of the variable height image (which I'm presuming is anchored to the first line of text in the frame) in a case where there is not sufficient text for fit frame to content to avoide making the frame shorter than the bottom of the image.
I believe this could be scripted, but that will still require you to run the script. You should ask over in InDesign Scripting
As far as a container that holds both text and image frames, yes, but only if you "paste into" a new frame after creating the two separately and grouping, which probably is not what you have in mind.

  • Grey box with a white spot

My son has somehow created a grey box with a white spot with circles his iPad 2 screen and when it is touched a larger box with the icons and the words gesture, device, home, favorites. How do I get rid of that?

Try Settings > General > Accessibility > AssistiveTouch 'off' (it might also being set 'on' by a triple-click of the home button, which you can also set via the Accessibility screen)

  • Tiger & Safari 2.0 - Can't Use Arrow Keys in Password Fields

Since installing Tiger and using the new Safari 2.0, password fields in online forms are not allowing the use of arrow keys. I can't go back one character or to the beginning of the •••••••• typed in the password field. In fact I can't even use the mouse to click anywhere other than the end of this field. It's forcing me to type it straight through, which is not how I type or re-type passwords (* See Example Below). I need to be able go back and edit sometimes, and the arrow keys helped in previous versions, but not now. All form text fields should allow the use of the arrow keys and the mouse to change the cursor's insertion point. Internet Explorer does not do this. But to my dismay the Mac OS X Login Window does! So maybe this is part of the OS rather than just Safari. I hope Apple is listening and fixes this issue in future versions of Safari & Tiger
    * Example of how to make secure passwords via the Arrow Keys:
Take two or three easy to remember words or numbers. For example I'll use "steve" "jobs" and the date Apple Computer was formed 4/1/1976 or "4176" for our purposes here. First you type in the first word...
    steve
Second you move the cursor with the arrow keys (which you can't do in Safari 2.0) to the beginning using the up-arrow, then alternate typing the second word "jobs" with a right-arrow key interspersed between each letter. So you would then type "j right-arrow o right-arrow b right-arrow s", which combined with what we already typed in step one should look like this...
    jsotbesve
Things are looking secure, no one would think of typing that. But we'll go to a third step and just repeat what we did before adding "4176" to the mix, which would then look like this...
    4j1s7o6tbesve
No one or thing would guess that password. but it's so easy to remember with the help of Arrow Keys. Now this is just one method. You could use the left-arrow key to go backwards with it, using two left-arrow key clicks...
    stsebv6o7e1j4
    maybe use 1, 2, and 3 right-arrow clicks...
    4j1so7teb6ves
Simple, easy to remember words or numbers made into secure unguessable passwords with the simple help of the Arrow Keys. Please Apple, make them usable in the password fields again.

    Still looking for help here.
And now in addition the above-listed issue, this browser has bogged down and is loading pages so slowly it just grinds to a halt.
At this point, I'd settle for instructions on how to fully uninstall Safari and re-install it and start over. This is flat unacceptable, and at this point I'm wondering why in the world I elected to pay for Tiger, only to be "blessed" with this disaster.
Please don't tell me to go back and reinstall the entire operating system. Not unless Apple would like a bill for the hours of my time it will take to do that, re-port all my files and re-install all my other software.

  • Switch from List of user to username and password fields?

I have my Login Window to display a List of Users by default.
Is there is shortcut key that switches to username & password fields so one can type in the username as well as the password?
I googled it and I found something like "hold opt+return and click on any username", does not work though...
I know that I can change it in System Pref. but it would be handy to know the shortcut key as well.
    Thanks.

The "Option"-"Enter" trick should still work from the keyboard - use the arrow keys or type the first few letters of a listed name to highlight a username, then press "Option-Return":
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=25686
As I recall, to do the same thing with keyboard + mouse, the modifiers to be used when clicking did change between 10.3 and 10.4 so some of what you find on the web may be out of date.

  • Make a report column display as an editable password field.

    Hi Guys,
    - Apex 3.2
    - Report region, one of the columns represents a password.
    - Made that column editable ==> display as text-item.
How can I make it display as a password field?
    If I add:
type="password"to the element attributes (in column attributes), then it still displays as a text field. Show html source reveales it just adds a second type= attribute:
    <input type="text" name="f05" size="15" maxlength="2000" value="test" type="password" id="f05_0001" />Which still makes it display as text, not password...
    Appreciate any help on this.

There is no "out of the box" solution for this. You'd have to do a bit of work. However, before we go down that road, I'm curious as to why you'd want to put a password field in a tabular form.
It's a multi row insert/update/delete (tabular) form, and one of the columns represents a password.
One row represents "an application". The column represents the application password.
I actually have two of them (columns) + a process that verifies that the same value was entered in both.
I'm suprised that this is not out-of-the box possible...
It would be a very easy to just support the 'password field' type in the dropdown list that I have now used to make it a simple text field. No?
    Appreciate any assistance...

  • Safari changes my keyboard layout when on password field

    Hi,
after upgrade to Safari 5, I got really strange problem.
I have two keyboard layout configured, U.S., which I use regulary, and Czech, to which I switch on rare occasions when I need to write something in my native language. I have configured keyboard shortcut Shift-Cmd-Space for switching between those layouts.
Now, the problem is that whenever I enter a password field on a web page form in Safari, it immediately switches to the Czech layout and disables the U.S. one, so I even can not switch back! The keyboard shortcut does not work and the "U.S." item in the keyboard indicator menu is grey.
This is extremely annoying. Does anyone have an idea what is causing it and how can I fix it?
Also, I think (but I'm not sure) that I have sometimes seen this before. But now (probably after Safari 5 installation) it happens on all the passwords fields I tried (even on pages I never visited before).
    regards,
    Bob
mid-2008 15" MacBook Pro, Snow Leopard, Safari 5, all available updates. In the Language & Text section of the preferences, I have following settings:
Language: First English, then Czech, then the rest.
Formats: Region: Custom (mostly czech with some tweaks)
Input Sources: Keyboard & Character Viewer checked, Czech-QWERTY checked, English checked. Selected "Use the same one in all documents", checked Show input menu in menu bar.

Problem solved! I have installed Keywurl some time ago (I really missed Firefox's bookmark keywords). After I upgraded to Safari 5, Keywurl said "Ooops, I'm not tested with Safari 5, disabling myself", so I did not suspected it. But out of deseperation, I tried to remove the plugin completely from the disk. And it worked! No more problems with keyboard layout in password field. Strange, but at least it works.

  • How to remove a black border box that continously tabs to each field automatically till end of web page; restarts to top of page, cannot stop this box. Scroll bar cannot controlled with mouse, returns auto to top of scroll slide, never remaining at bottom

how to remove a black border box that continously tabs to each field automatically till end of web page; restarts to top of page, cannot stop this box. Scroll bar cannot be controlled with mouse, scroll bar returns automatically to the top of scroll slide every time I move the bar to the bottom of the scale.  Also, there's a rectangular text box (with black background and white text) that is always on the desktop that emulates a typed text, HTML, or cmd function.

The first two problems (box cycling from element to element on page, scroll bar returning to top) can be caused by a stuck (or defective) Tab key on the keyboard. Such damage can be caused by a liquid spill; just one tiny droplet is enough to short a wafer switch under one key.
The last issue (black box, white text - sounds sorta like a debugger window) I haven't seen, but could be caused by something similar.
To check for that, try using a different keyboard. If you're using a wireless keyboard, turn it off and see if the oddities stop.

  • Help with a password field

I have a Flash site I'm working on that has a private login
area. The login is not meant to be high security, we just want to
limit access to current and potential clients who we give a
    password to.
    Here is the site in
    progress.
What I need help with is the client login window. The login
field is in a pop-up when you mouse over the word "client login."
The temp password is forumdemo. When you use the button after
typing in the password, everything is fine. But when you use the
enter key, it initiates the "incorrect' action every time, even if
    the password is correct.
This is driving me crazy because when I originally built the
login box as an entirely separate movie, the enter key worked fine.
If you want to see it working, just click on the "client login"
words rather than using the pop-up box.
The code is the same in both. The only difference is that the
password field, button and other elements are now a Movie Clip.
Anybody have any thoughts? The scripts are below; developed
with the help of people on this forum (thanks!).
Ignore everything else - the content is not finalized. The
final site will be our company website, with work samples and the
like, and the main page will include a working demonstration of
what we can do with Flash 8 and green screen video. We haven't
    finished that stuff yet.

I tried. it didn't quite do it.
I don't know how to trace the value of things, I'm still
lurnin', but what I did do, is replace the _root.password.text with
    all of the following
    _parent.password.text
    _parent.loginPopup.password.text
    _root.loginPopup.password.text
    _root.loginPopup.password
I'm sorry to say none of them fixed the problem, and I think
my problem is that I don't know what you mean by tracing the value.
Well, I know what you mean, but I don't know how to do it. I'll dig
into the documentation, but if you or anyone has an easy answer,
    I'll take it!
Thanks, I appreciate your help and all the help I've gotten
on this forum building that site.

  • RE: TOC grey boxes I can't get rid of.

On the TOC page in all the templates and also on the book I’m making there are two light grey box shapes showing at the bottom of the page that I can’t get rid of. They don't respond to selecting, moving or deleting. My questions are:
How do I get rid of them?
Will they show up when previewed on an iPad? (I don’t have one yet)
Does anyone else have these boxes, or have I inadvertently created them?
    Thanks for your help
I have to say, I'm really impressed by iBook Author

Trojans attached to an e-mail are almost certainly Windows malware, and of no harm to your Mac.  (I have yet to hear of Mac malware being distributed that way, though it could happen in the future.)
Of course, you should still delete them, but since spam containing Windows malware is very common these days, it will just come back.  Note, though, that you should not allow your anti-virus software to quarantine or delete e-mail messages, as that can cause your mail database to become corrupt.  If you are using Apple's Mail, use your AV software to find the file containing the message that has the malware in it, and show it in the Finder.  In ClamXav, you control-click the malware in the list and choose Reveal in Finder.  The file's name should end in .emlx, and if so, double-click that file to open the message in Mail.  (This does not open the attachment!)  Then delete or junk the message in Mail.
    Good luck!

  • Weird grey boxes behind type areas

Okay this one's got me scratching my head...
Quark Xpress 7.31 exporting a page containing a news story, several photos and a few ads: Intel dual core PowerMac Tower with 2GB RAM running 10.4.11 and CS3.
We export the page as a .ps file from Quark Xpress using the "Export Layout as PDF" function and fire the file into a Distiller 8 watch folder. Distiller spits out a PDF in the usual way BUT... now all of a sudden we're seeing square 30% grey boxes behind all of the type areas on the page.
The grey areas are precisely rendered to match the text box locations in the Quark Xpress layout, and look as thought the Acrobat 8 application is generating them - almost as though it's a form of markup. It also resembles the effect you get if you took a standard PDF with embedded type and swept a test area with the text editing tool; the area you swept would highlight in light grey... which looks like the effect on-screen - only it's permanently active and cannot be disabled.
If we open the same 'erroneous' PDF on another Mac in our department running the same OS version and Acrobat 8 it looks the same with grey boxes. If we open the same PDF on a Mac running the same OS version and Acrobat 6, it looks fine with no grey boxes at all.
In all instances, the grey boxes do not print if we send them to a proofer or the RIP. It appears to be a display issue only. But it's mighty worrisome come press time... I've also run permission fixes, Onyx, Applejack, etc. to no avail.
Anyone? Could it be prefs related?

What colour space / tint / values are you getting inside the output
preview inside of Acrobat when you click inside these grey boxes?

  • IPad mini freezes when keyboard pops on password field

    Hi,
Is it just me? When in a form it's turn for the password field (registrations take two of these -.-), it usually stops the iPad (iOS 7) and you have to wait in order to start typing on the keyboard, or you type and then it writes it down pretty fast because you return from the "lag".
Please tell me or help! Thank you

On my iPad mini with iOS7 it usually happens with the first password field, if there's a second box it loads faster.

  • Password fields query

I want to put a password field on my index page at my website. I see how DW can create a password field in a text box, but I don't see how one would specifiy what the password should be and how the visitor would have to match it. Is anyone familiar with this process? Can it be done just with DW?
    Thanks.
